Here's the next chapter! I have nothing else to say except that for those stupid `back-to-school' commercials, they should die. Slow horrible and painful deaths..

Chapter 2

Payback

Kagome shivered as the cold air danced across her face. She tossed and turned in her bed until she couldn't sleep. She looked over at her alarm clock. 1:27. `Great…it's the morning and I can't even sleep!' She thought gingerly as she threw the covers off of herself.

"Guess I'll go for a little walk." Kagome said quietly to herself.

She slipped on her bunny slippers and walked out of her room quietly. She glanced side to side to make sure that no one was awake yet, and she saw no one. Closing her door softly she started down the hall but failed to see the skateboard looming ahead of her. She stepped on it and fell off abruptly. She landed quite loudly, but was glad when no one woke up.

Carefully this time, she got up and walked down the rest of the hall, then started on the stairs. When she reached the bottom stairs she was on the homestretch. She stepped outside and started her little `walk'.

Little did she know that Inuyasha was having himself some alone time outside on the roof of the well house thing. He was sitting with his knees in front of him, with his arms loosely sitting on top of them. The wind was slightly blowing his hair behind him, as well as the clothes he was wearing.

He was staring up at the half moon, thinking of what was on his mind. He was so deep in his thoughts that he didn't hear tiny footsteps approach from below. They stopped in front of him, and then there was no noise from the person except for light breathing. Then:

"What are you doing up there?" Kagome asked.

Inuyasha was snapped out of it and looked down at the girl. She was wearing a tee shirt and shorts, both red with white stitching. On her feet were her pink fluffy bunny slippers and her hair was waving behind her at him.

"What does it look like Einstein?" He snapped at her.

"Woah, I think you should be getting to bed now. You're already crabby." She replied crossing her arms.

"Even at this time you have a temper? That's amazing."

"Oh shut your face!" She said angrily.

He grinned at her and then jumped down to face her. She was slightly taken aback when he jumped so far down, but what she didn't expect to see was a pair of fuzzy white ears propped on top of his head. Kagome stared at them with fascination.

"What are you looking at wench?" He demanded after seeing the look on her face.

He followed her gaze until he realized that he wasn't wearing his hat. He cursed to himself in his head before deciding to leave her alone. But she was too fast. Before he knew what was happening her hands were reached up and massaging his ears.

He was angry, but it suddenly disappeared when he felt how nice it was. He didn't show it of course. Kagome had a big smile on her face when a slight purr came from inside his throat. It took him a few minutes to realize what she was making him do and he quickly pulled away.

"What the hell do you think you are doing?!" He demanded.

"I was massaging your ears! They were too cute to resist!"

"Cute? My ears were cute? I am a Hanyou! You should be afraid of me!"

"Why should I be afraid of you? You're like a cute, big, kitty-cat."

"I AM NOT A KITTY-CAT! I am a half inu-youkai! Look I have claws and fangs! You are a human, you should be afraid! Don't you get it?" He said showing her his teeth and claws.

She giggled at him.

"Now what can be so funny eh?" He snapped at her.

"You. You're so funny." She said pushing him lightly in the arm.

He was lost for words after the sudden contact. `Why isn't she afraid of me? Usually everyone I've ever come in contact with has been afraid of me. Why isn't she?' He thought to himself. She looked at him with her bright blue eyes and a smile.

Somehow that smile made him feel comfortable, but why was she making him feel anything at all? He was starting to get confused now, and he wanted to be alone.

"I'm going to bed." He said simply as he started to walk away.

But what he didn't expect was for her to come and latch onto his arm. He looked down at her with wide eyes, and quickly pulled his own arm back.

"How about no." He said looking away from her.

"Okay…well I'm tired too and my room is right next to yours, so we can go together." She said in her usual perky voice.

"Alright then."

They walked in silence until they reached the door, then Kagome whispered softly to herself, that she expected Inuyasha not to hear.

"This is too weird." She whispered under her breath, referring to how her heart was beating faster than normal.

He looked back at her, hearing exactly what she said, but thought better of it and crept inside the house. Together the two of them slunk around the creaky stairs and floorboards until they got into their rooms. Kagome to hers and Inuyasha to his.

They both closed their doors at the same time and then Kagome collapsed on her bed. As did Inuyasha.

Kagome woke up very early Friday morning, despite how late she had stayed up thinking, just to make sure that Souta got what he deserved. She had an ingenious idea of how to wake up him, far better than anything she's ever thought before.

She carried four buckets of ice cold water into his room and then began her plot against him. She dumped 3 of the 4 buckets of water into the tiny kiddy pool, and left the 4th to commence the operation.

She planted metal jacks all around his room so he would have sore feet just trying to get away. She knew that Souta hated spiders, after Grandpa told him those stories about demon spiders eating away at people's insides. It was quite an advantage for Kagome.

She went back to work and was finally done. She observed her plan and made sure that there were no flaws when she turned back to the sleeping boy. She took a deep breath and lifted the bucket over his body and then dumped it on him. She jumped behind the curtain as he screamed like a little schoolgirl.

The screaming faded when she heard his bedsprings squeak. She bit the insides of her cheeks as she counted down until yet another scream would erupt from her brother. Then it came louder than ever. Kagome knew that he had found the fake spiders in his bed, though they looked pretty real to Kagome. He rolled out of bed into the pool of water, of cold water. She held her stomach as she pictured how everything was happening in her mind.

Then she heard splashing. He had stood up, and was about to step on the jacks that seemed almost invisible to the boy. She heard a muffled cry, which must have been from the boy, and then a few more. Her sides felt like they were going to spit if she had to keep in her laughter any longer. There was silence as she was guessing that he had found all the jacks and was making his way around them.

She held her breath and waited for the next trap that awaited him. She listened happily as the door hinges whined as it was opened, and then she thought of the bucket of chicken fat that she had borrowed from her mother. She waited for the `plunk' of the bucket, and then there it was. There was some sputtering and coughing, and then the door was flung open.

She peeked from behind the curtain to see him trip over the shoelace and fall into the feathers scattered over the towels on the ground. He started to cry as he ran downstairs. Then when Kagome felt it was safe, she started laughing like there was no tomorrow. Tears started to fall down her face from all the laughter she was letting out, that when she finally had stopped, she looked like she had dunked her face into the pool.

"Nice." Inuyasha said standing at the door.

Kagome looked up to see a topless Inuyasha standing in dark blue sweatpants. She didn't want to stare at him, but it was almost impossible when such a gorgeous man was standing in front of her practically telling her to eat her heart out.

"T-thanks." She said tearing her eyes away from him.

"Need some help cleaning up before your mom gets in here?" He offered.

"Sure." She said glancing up.

He bent down and started scooping up the feathers into a nearby pillow case and Kagome started on the water. She opened her brothers window and tossed out the water in bucketful's. Soon it was empty enough to lug out the window, unfortunately she hadn't planned how to get it outside. Inuyasha was done with the feathers quickly and was practically already finished with the jacks when Kagome was done cleaning the fake spider out of his bed. Then she pulled up his wet covers to try and hide the wet sheets. She glanced over at Inuyasha who was looking at the ground for anymore jacks. He seemed to have gotten them all.

"Thanks." She said quickly.

"No problem, anytime." He replied tossing the jacks in the corner of the room with the others.

They both stood there in uncomfortable silence staring at everything but each other. Then they were pulled out of their thoughts when Souta came back up to his room with an angry face on. He slid beside Inuyasha and glared at Kagome. Kagome pulled on the most innocent face she could pull.

"What?" She said looking at him with her puppy eyes.

"That wasn't funny. I'm going to tell mom when she gets back from shopping and then you'll get grounded for the rest of the summer."

"Oh please no Souta! I don't want to be grounded forever! It's the summer! It was only a joke, c'mon lighten up." She pleaded with him.

"No, you get what you deserve. You should try and be like Inuyasha. Someone who is on my side for once."

"I helped her you know there squirt." He said looking down at the boy.

Kagome stared at him confused.

"You did?" He asked.

"Yeah, and if you tell on Kagome, then I'll get in trouble too." He said.

"I guess I won't tell on you this time Kagome, but next time I won't let you off so easily." Souta warned as he made his way to the bathroom.

"Why did you tell him that?" She asked stepping a little closer to him.

"Because I didn't want to be stuck with him all summer. And plus I sorta have some involvement. Helping you clean up an all." He said shyly.

"Well thank you for caring."

"I don't care. Where did you get an idea like that?" He scoffed turning around and walking out.

Kagome went out after him.

"Hold it. I'm confused now."

"Just forget it."

"But-" She started but the phone caused her to stop.

He kept walking downstairs, not glancing back until she was walking into her own room. She left her door open, forgetting to close it. She reached and picked up the phone.

"Hello?" She asked.

"Hey Kag! Do you want to go shopping today for the par~tay?" Sango asked excitedly.

"Sure, I probably can. How are we getting there?"

"Umm…well we can bus."

"Okay. Who else is coming?"

"You, me, Eri, and Yuka."

"Alright then. I'll meet you at the bus stop at 12?"

"Yeah, the bus leaves at 12:15 or something right?"

"Yeah, well bye."

"Bye."

She hung up the phone and thought back to her past mall episode. They had bought her a pair of booty short, not the underwear kind, and a tube/belly top. They gave her hooker boots and made her walk through the mall in it all day as some sort of punishment.

Half the mall guys were drooling over her, and the ones that got close enough to grope her left with either a black eye, or a high voice. Catch my drift?

She slid off her bed and walked down to the kitchen to see her mom about their shopping trip. She was in the kitchen talking with Jon by the fridge. Inuyasha was sitting down at the table, so he might've been involved with their conversation. She walked over to the adults and stood beside Jon.

"Hey dad, mom." She said with a smile. "Can I go to the mall with Sango, Eri and Yuka today?"

"I don't know dear, you have a guest after all…" Her mom said, but Jon intervened.

"C'mon Kia. Let her go, and she can bring Inuyasha with her." He said placing an arm around Kagome's shoulders.

She gave her mom a pleading look, hoping to convince her, and then a roll of the eyes gave her the answer.

"Alright. But only if you bring Inuyasha with you. And no monkey business." She said in a warning tone.

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" She said as she hugged her mom, then her dad.

She then poured herself a glass of orange juice and placed herself at the table. There was a bowl of cereal waiting for her when she arrived, including a long lasting look from Inuyasha. She ignored him and started to eat her cereal, but when she raised the spoon to her lips, it became too much.

"Okay, so what's up with you looking at me?" She asked irritably.

"Nothing, nothing at all." He said looking back down at his empty bowl. "Except the fact that you got me into going shopping. And for the record, I hate shopping."

"Oh, well then I'll make it fun!" She said.

"That makes me feel so reassured." He said sarcastically getting up from the table.

She watched him leave the room and then went back to her cereal. By now it was mushy and she had no appetite concerning the bowl. She glanced at Inuyasha's bowl and her own, then up to the adults, and then back again.

Then as fast and quietly as she could she switched the two bowls and drank the rest of her orange juice. She left it there, not feeling up to cleaning, and went to her room. There was a shower running in the bathroom, so she suspected that it was Souta.

Inuyasha's door was closed so she thought he was in there. She walked into her room and made her bed. The water stopped and then Kagome remembered that she had left her panties in there, her only pair of clean panties.

So not thinking, she walked to the bathroom and placed a hand on the doorknob. She opened it and let out some steam and light into the hallway. When she stuck her head in she instantly regretted it. Inuyasha was standing there with his hands covering his manly parts and glaring at her.

"WAAAAAA!" Kagome shrieked as she pulled her head back out and slammed the door closed.

"WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU DO THAT FOR?" Inuyasha barked from inside the bathroom.

"I NEED MY PANTIES! THEY'RE ON THE HAMPER LID!" She called back.

There was shuffling inside the bathroom before the door opened to reveal a red faced Inuyasha. In his hand he had her panties, her hot pink S.W.A.K. panties. He handed them to her as he blushed. She as well couldn't help but blush when she touched his hand while taking them from his hand.

Their gazes locked as the both of them held onto the panties, Kagome's hand brushing against his. Gold staring into Sapphire. The two of the stood like that for a few minutes before Jon came up the hallway, startling the two.

"Kagome, where- Oh. Am I interrupting something here?" He asked looking at the two.

"NO!" They both shouted in unison.

They both blushed furiously after the realized that they were both holding onto the panties. Kagome pulled them away and Inuyasha disappeared into the bathroom again. Inside the bathroom, Inuyasha slumped against the door, staring in front of him.

In his mind he kept playing over her glimmering sapphire eyes, the way they shone at him. He also remembered her facial features. Her small face, her soft pink lips, her smooth skin. He couldn't help but wonder how she tasted.

Back on the other side of the door, Kagome was still holding onto her panties in her hand like they were glass. Jon was looking at her in an accusing way. Her eyes were glazed over, zoning out. She was thinking of the whole event that just took place. The way he looked into her eyes, and the way his face turned red when she had peeked inside.

A faint blush spread across her face at the memory of a naked Inuyasha, with only his hands covering himself. She remembered how warm his hand was; but then again he had just had a shower. Jon was still eyeing her when she snapped out of it and looked up at him, now realizing how obvious she looked.

"What?" She asked acting like nothing was happening.

He laughed at her, shaking his head.

"Here's some money from your mother and I. Use it wisely there." He said handing over some bills to her.

She took it in her free hand and then kissed her dad on the cheek before disappearing into her room. She closed the door and then locked it, afraid of Inuyasha walking in on her. She dropped the cash on her desk and then dropped her panties on her bed.

She flipped on her music, her Crowned King CD playing. She got dressed, and then observed her outfit in the mirror. She was wearing some white jeans/pants and a light pink tee shirt. It said `Take A Picture It'll Last Longer' on it. Then she had on her white skate shoes and a few pink and white rubber bracelets on her wrist.

She tied her hair in a high ponytail and then pulled out some bangs. She put on some lip-gloss and then shoved the money in her back pocket. She glanced over at her clock and it told her that she a little over 15 minutes to get to the bus stop.

Making sure that she had everything and looked fine, she went to get Inuyasha. Remembering the coincidence of not knocking last time, she knocked loudly. The door opened and Inuyasha stood there fully dressed. Black ATTICUS hat on, a Red Hurley shirt; Tan shorts and black and red DC skate shoes.

"I'm surprised you know how to knock." He said coldly.

"Haha, so funny." She said sarcastically. "Let's go, we have to catch the bus."

"Okay." He said following her down the stairs.

"GOING NOW MOM! BE BACK LATER! LOVE YOU!" She called before exiting the house.

Inuyasha walked beside her the whole way, hardly speaking a word. Then she turned her gaze up to him when they were only minutes from the bus stop.

"Um…I have to warn you about my friends. They're very hyper active…and I think you should be-" She couldn't finish for two figures came bounding over to Kagome, and one walking calmly behind.

Two of the jumped at Kagome and knocked her down, practically crushing her bones. She sputtered out what seemed like `get off of me' but came out as `gert ouff ouve meih.'

Inuyasha grabbed lifted the two off Kagome and then helped her up. She dusted herself off and then muttered her reply to Inuyasha.

"I didn't need you help."

"You looked like it." He said under his breath.

The third person finally got there and then she launched into a large assumption.

"Woah! Is this your new boyfriend? He's really hot!" Eri exclaimed.

"And a gentleman too!" Added Yuka.

Inuyasha and Kagome's faces fell at the words that came out of their mouths.

"Huh?" Kagome said.

"Boyfriend, him." Sango said pointing to Inuyasha.

"What? No, him! NO! He's just living with me." Kagome said clearing up the misunderstanding.

"Right." The three said rolling their eyes.

"So does it speak?" Eri joked.

Inuyasha gave her a very rude finger, but she only smiled at him.

"Feisty one he is. You keep your eye on him. He's a keeper." Eri said winking as the bus pulled up.

Kagome went red in the face, as she stepped on, Inuyasha following her closely. The five of them took the seats at the back. Eri, Yuka and Sango sat in the three seats at the very back and Inuyasha and Kagome took the seats on the sides, parallel to each other.

They were avoiding each others eyes, making it seem obvious to anyone who cared to look why they were doing it. Then in the process their eyes connected for a split second, but Kagome pulled away looking at the ground. Inuyasha grinned at her, seeing a slight blush creep over her cheeks. Then she looked up at him.

"Quit looking at me." She said to him.

"I wasn't looking at you wench." He snapped.

"What were you looking at then? Your reflection?"

"Uh no." He said.

"Right, that's because if you'd look at yourself then you'd probably have a heart attack. I almost did myself." She said smirking.

"Ouch. That hurt. My heart is now broken from your hurtful words. Got anything else to throw at me?"

Kagome glared at him, only to receive one in return. There began the glaring contest. Mean while, the three stooges were casting bets on who would be the first one to breakdown or loose this fight.

"I think that Kagome is going to pull through with this one, she's got a mean stare going on there." Yuka said glancing back over at the two.

"Okay. Who's it going to be Eri?" Sango said taking the money from the two girls.

"I'm going to have to go with…Kagome's boyfriend." She said.

That tiny statement drew both their attention to the gambling in the back. Inuyasha and Kagome looked over with blushing faces at them and yelled in unison:

"SHE'S/HE'S NOT MY GIRLFRIEND/BOYFRIEND!"

They turned away and their faces went even redder. The three looked from one to another, not sure what to do. They were completely shocked that they had reacted that way to such a small comment. The only thing that they could guess was: they both had it bad for each other.

"Well since neither of them won, I guess that mean I get to keep the money!" Sango said tucking the money away in her pocket.

The bus jerked to a stop suddenly before anyone could do anything. Everyone fell out of their seats when it pulled to a halt. The three stooges landed on each other, making a dog pile, while Kagome fell on top of Inuyasha.

It was a very awkward position. Kagome was lying on his back sideways, and Inuyasha was lying on his stomach. Kagome pulled herself off of him and then stood up, offering him her hand. He looked at it like it had been poisoned or something, but then accepted it. When he was firmly on his feet, he didn't let go of her hand, and neither did Kagome.

They were looking at each other the same way they had when they were both holding the pair of hot pink panties. Slowly and slowly they were inching close to each other, their hands still positioned between them. Then when they were close enough that their bodies were touching, Sango had to go and ruin it.

"Hey would you look at that. We broke down right by the mall!" She said from the bottom of the pile.

Kagome looked down from where she was and let go of Inuyasha's hand. Inuyasha looked over at Sango with a despising look while she got up with the others.

"Let's go!" Eri said jumping towards the exit of the bus.

Kagome followed the girls, brushing past Inuyasha who followed her closer than before.

The shopping day hadn't gone as planned at all. Sango had seen a sale in one of her favorite stores and ran off, then Eri saw some people from school and ran away, and then they lost Yuka in the crowd.

"Isn't this just so much fun?" Kagome asked sarcastically.

"Yeah, so much fun. What do we do now?" He asked kicking a cup lid that someone had left on the ground.

"Shop obviously. I need an outfit for the party tomorrow night. C'mon." Kagome said taking his hand and leading him into the nearest store.

They had wandered into Garage, and right away Kagome started grabbing shirts of all kinds from all over. She made Inuyasha carry them despite what he said, and then disappeared into the change rooms to try them on.

One by one she came out sporting different shirts, all making Inuyasha's eyes fall out of his head. Then she stepped out from the stall supporting a shirt that accented her curves greatly. It was a red and black tight fitting one strapped shirt. The arm strap hung loosely on her left arm, and on her right hand she had on a glove fabric thing. It revealed some of her belly, and a little cleavage.

"So what do you think about this one?" Kagome said twirling around.

"I-uh-It-uh-" Inuyasha stuttered. "Looks awesome."

Kagome giggled and then gave him a wink before returning in the stall to change back into her own shirt. She came out and then carried the shirt that she had liked the best, which was the red and black one, and then paid for it.

Next she dragged him off to Off The Wall, where once again he had to carry her clothes that she picked out. There wasn't much she liked, so Inuyasha only ended up carrying 3 items of clothing.

A pair of black Dickies, a black skirt with a pale pink line across the front, and another skirt that was black and white checkered. She tried each on and Inuyasha got to pick one out, in the end the white and black checkered skirt won.

Then she had to pick out some accessories. She grabbed a black leather belt with red stars on it and a pink and black leather spiked wristband. She quickly paid for the items and she thought that she was done before she came across a earring stand.

"Oh! Inuyasha, help me pick out some earrings!" She said jumping up and down while holding onto his arm.

"Okay. Just get off of me." He said pulling back his arm.

The two of them searched the cart for the perfect pair of earrings, and when Kagome had just given up, Inuyasha had found the perfect pair. They were star earrings, one big star on each one, except one was black and the other was white.

"Oh my god! They're perfect! Thanks!" She said pecking Inuyasha lightly on the cheek.

After she pulled away she had just realized what she'd done and went very red in the face. Inuyasha gave a light blush, but turned away from her while she went and paid for the earrings.

Kagome had only a small amount of money left, which was enough for a little something to eat. Her blush had gone away when she had returned to Inuyasha who had sat on a nearby bench. Kagome stood in front of him and waited for him to look up at her. It took a minute or two but he finally did.

"Let's go get something to eat, I don't have much left, but it's enough to get food." She said.

"My feet hurt, can we please just wait a little longer?" He complained.

"No, now come on!" She said grabbing his hands and pulling him up.

He resisted for a minute until he gave into her pull. She led the way through the groups of teens to the food court. They circled it a few times before deciding on getting some Ramen with their money, only they only had enough for one bowl. They agreed to share it and then after five minutes of walking, they found a seat in the middle of the court, where a table with only two chairs across from each other stood.

Kagome plopped down the tray without spilling anything and then dropped her bags down next to her. As soon as Inuyasha put his fork in the noodles, he was already chewing away. Kagome had to pick up her pace until she had had enough Ramen to let him finish it off.

Though since these were the thick noodles, Kagome was trying to get a never-ending noodle in her mouth, as was Inuyasha. That's when the whole `Lady and the Tramp' thing happened. They were both trying to get it all in their mouth's when the long noodle came out from the mass of noodles, hanging from both of their mouth's.

Kagome and Inuyasha both eyed the noodle before seeing a challenge before them. Before you knew it, they both started trying to pull the noodle into their mouth's. Slowly their faces got closer, trying to conquer the noodle, when their noses touched and at that moment they both forgot about the noodle. They both looked at the situation, and then at each other.

Their gazes locked and Kagome couldn't help but feel a fluttering feeling inside her stomach as she stared into the depths of his amber gaze. Then once again their moment was ruined when Sango once again decided to stop by.

"Hey guys- woah. What's going on here eh?" She asked slyly.

The two blushed deeply before pulling themselves away, snapping the noodle in half. Kagome slurped up the noodle, as did Inuyasha before looking down at the table. Sango looked from one to another, taking in pleasure from the scene.

"Anyway, I was looking for you guys, where did you two love birds go?"

"WE'RE NOT TOGETHER!" They both yelled causing everyone in the food court to fall silent.

By this point they were both redder than they've ever been in their lives, and that just made Sango laugh. She started rolling on the ground clutching her stomach. Kagome buried her face in her hands, and Inuyasha crossed his arms over his chest and stared at the remains of what was his lunch.

It was around five when the gang had re-assembled, and together they headed for the bus stop. The three girls were chatting away in the front, while Kagome and Inuyasha had fallen behind. They were talking quietly about how weird her friends were, and at the moment Kagome was talking about Sango. She seemed to be a little upset how she continuously interrupted their little moments.

"She hasn't even gone out with a guy before!" She exclaimed throwing her hands in the air.

"And I mean she says that all guys are jerks and that she's always waited for the perfect guy, I mean it's not fair. She is always telling me to go out with Kouga or like Hojo, but I don't like them. She practically pressures me into it! I just wish that I could get some guy who actually likes her to ruin her little oath she has going on here. That would be just perfect." Kagome said thinking aloud.

"I know the perfect guy." Inuyasha said under his breath.

Kagome had failed to hear it unfortunately. The bus rolled up and then the two of them broke off into a run to catch it in time.
