Breathless
The sky was clear and the shades of green were all too familiar. The air was still and dense as he turned his gaze from the miko to find 'her' standing behind them. She was dressed in her uniform attire as always. She stood there in silence as her eyes met his. She had caught him in the act again. Once more he had fled off to see her despite knowing how she felt for him. And just like before, she found them with their lips intertwined, embracing one another with no remorse for the one left behind. "How could he do this?!" The question echoed in her head. Inuyasha didn't say a word as he stared into Kagome's lost eyes. What could he say? The miko cleared her throat as Inuyasha and Kagome parted their eyes and left it to wander elsewhere. Kikyou broke their embrace as she step forward, now standing beside the hanyou. She looked over at Kagome and then back up at Inuyasha. In a quick, playfull tug she had wrapped one arm around Inuyasha and placed the other over his shoulder so her hand could play with his neck. She then pulled him down closer to her as she took in his scent and indulged herself with another kiss. Inuyasha merely looked into Kagome's eyes for a second before he closed them and welcomed Kikyou's passion.
I see nothing in your eyes, and the more I see the less I like.
Is it over yet, in my head?
I know nothing of your kind, and I won't reveal your evil mind.
Is it over yet? I can't win.
“Inu-yasha..” She was finally able to let escape from her lips. Kagome couldn’t believe her eyes. ‘But it’s not like it hasn’t happened before.’ Her inner voice reassured her. She knew that Inuyasha was never over Kikyou and that he had always thought of her. ‘Even during the moments that we had shared together.’ The tears she had held back had breached pass her lashes and down her cheeks. Her chest felt tight as her breathing became ill regular. Her body felt weak and fragile as she began to fall to her knees. Inuyasha had heard a slight thump and when he had opened his eyes. He had found Kagome in tears, her arms wrapped around herself, her hand clenching the shirt at her chest . He gently pushed away from Kikyou, who seemed hesitant to leave his side. But after a soft exchange of whispers she had removed her hold on him. The hanyou then walked over to the heartbroken girl and got down on one knee. “Kagome..” He whispered. She didn’t budge nor say a word, her eyes still staring at the ground. “I’m.. I’m sorry.” His tone was filled with sympathy and grief. “I just, we just can’t.. I ..” He tried to explain but nothing seemed to come out as planed. “ You do understand what I’m trying to say though, don’t cha?” He said with a nervous smile as he reached out his hand to her. What happened next was not what he had in mind. “ Don’t..” The words were so soft that even Inuyasha had to stern his ears to hear it.
So sacrifice yourself, and let me have what's left.
I know that I can find the fire in your eyes.
I'm going all the way, get away, please.
She took a deep breath as she looked up to meet his eyes. He stared back as a sharp pain pierced his soul. Her eyes were cold and desolate. She slowly released her grip on her shirt and then smacked his hand away. “I don’t think I’ll ever understand you.” She stated as she slowly rose up to her feet. The stream of tears still flowing down her cheeks. Inuyasha looked at her with puzzlement as he too stood back on his feet. “You know my feelings for you.” Kagome pointed out as she took a step closer to him. His eyes were locked with hers as he searched for the right words. Yes, she was correct. He had known that Kagome loved him all this time, and yet he couldn’t stop himself from seeing, and wanting to be with Kikyou. He was torn by the two. “How could you toy with me like that?” Kagome whispered. There was another moment of silence. ‘I didn’t mean to, no. I’m not toying with you. I just can’t ..I want you.’ He thought to himself but didn’t dare to say it out loud. Kagome searched his face for any since of security, but all she saw was the pain and regret in him. ‘There’s nothing more I can do.’ The voice whispered at her. “ I can’t deal with this anymore. It hurts, it just hurts too much..” She said between sobs. ‘It’s all because of that stupid hanyou! And his bitch!’ The thought resounded in her mind once more. ‘It’s all her fault. No! It’s all his fault! He’s making you feel this way! He deserves to die!’ She let out a scream of pain as her eyes filled with hate and anger. Her eyes pierced into his souls that he trembled with a bit of fear as he took a step back. “ I hate you!” She yelled at the dog demon. “ I never want to see your face again or else.” She stated as she took a step back, with her hand over her chest.
You take the breath right out of me.
You left a hole where my heart should be.
You got to fight just to make it through,
'cause I will be the death of you.
“Kagome, you don’t mean that!” Inuyasha retorted as he stood there confused by this side of her. All this time Kikyou had stood silent. She grew restless and tired of this none sense. Kikyou then walked towards Kagome, stopping exactly next to where Inuyasha stood. “ Aren’t we a bit childish?” She remarked at Kagome‘s behavior. “Kikyou?!” Inuyasha shouted as he looked at her. “What? I’m only saying what is true. That child doesn’t belong here nor does she have any right to be with you Inuyasha. You are mine.” She explained as she glared at Kagome. She then pulled on the him of his haori before wrapping her arms around his waist. “Ah..?” Inuyasha was also confused as to why Kikyou was acting in such a manner. He looked over at Kagome and noticed she had backed away a bit more.
This will be all over soon.
Pour salt into the open wound. Is it over yet? Let me in.
“Kagome.” He said once more, his eyes filled with regret and pain. No, Kagome didn’t want to look into those eyes again. She didn’t need him to comfort her, nor did she need him to explain. She already knew. “ I don’t want your pity.” Kagome replied with a firm tone. The tears finally stopped.
So sacrifice yourself, and let me have what's left.
I know that I can find the fire in your eyes.
I'm going all the way, get away, please.
Kikyou looked more irritated as the hanyou tried to communicate with that brat from the future. “Inuyasha, it is clear from her actions that she doesn’t want anything to do with you.” Kikyou pointed out with a smile. “ But, I don’t want that.” The tone in his voice was low and sad, almost as though he had lost something precious to him. Kikyou would not tolerate this. She had waited far too long for this good moment for their reunion to be foiled by that girl. “ But, that’s what she wants. Besides, you’re better off without her anyway. She’s too young to understand what a real relationship between a man and a woman is. She’s probably a fickle girl, would have broken your heart just like she broke the jewel.” Kikyou said in a dreadful tone. ‘She wouldn’t do that.‘ He thought to himself. Kagome felt the rage building inside of her. She couldn’t believe that this clay miko was trying to tell her what she feels and knows is not recognized as true due to her lack of years of being alive?! That was outrageous. And during this whole time that Kikyou had been pretty much bad mouthing Kagome, Inuyasha had not uttered one word really, to stop her. ‘Is he really that, in love with her that he’ll let her say things like that?!’ She questioned herself. Kagome looked in Inuyasha’s amber eyes. Nothing, she couldn’t read his thoughts anymore.
I'm waiting, I'm praying, realize, start hating.
“It’s not unlikely for her to leave you one day just to return back to her own time for good. I’m sure she has plenty of other boys over there in her time that she associates herself with.” Kikyou stated as a grin appeared on her lips before Kagome’s eyes. ’But I’ve been there with her. That’s not how she is Kikyou!’ He wanted to scream, but his lips would not part for those words. She was really crossing the line. Kagome balled her hands into a fist. Kagome looked at Inuyasha, and once again he had said nothing but give that uncertain look in his eyes.
You take the breath right out of me.
You left a hole where my heart should be.
You got to fight just to make it through…
A flash of light passed by Inuyasha as Kikyou’s eyes widen with fear. They both looked down at Kikyou’s arm to find an arrow pierced through it. Inuyasha gasped as another arrow struck her in the stomach. His eyes locked on Kikyou’s trembling body. He then quickly turned around and shouted, “Kagome! What’s the hell are you doing?!” Only to find her standing a short distance from him with bow and arrow ready, aimed at him. Her eyes, were distant now. So far that even he couldn’t find her.
