Chapter 9

 

Back Early

 

Kagome had just put Shippo and Inuko to bed. It had been a long boring day. Without Inuyasha things weren't as interesting and fun. She hadn't slept well after the dream, Shippo on the other hand slept like a log. She tossed and turned all night but finally gave up early in the morning. She ended up watching movies until it was time to make breakfast.

 

The day was pretty much boring also. Shippo had gone to a friend's to play until late in the evening leaving Inuko to be her only company. Sango had gone to visit her parents and Miroku decided to accompany her. Kaede was also out for the evening. She was helping Nami again but at her house. She had been too afraid to go back to Kaede's. She even tried to call Rin but no one answered the phone.

 

The day went by slowly and she started regretting talking Inuyasha into going to Hong Kong. He still wouldn't be back until the next morning. He hadn't even called at all. She was pretty sure he was very busy, especially since he said he'd call the moment he got there.

 

As she was walking to her room she heard a noise in the kitchen. She slowly crept to the kitchen when the hallway light came on and a figure walked into the hallway. She gasped but then calmed when she knew it was Inuyasha. She smiled brightly and ran to him.

 

“Inuyasha!” She said as she jumped into his arms and wrapped her legs around his waist. She didn't hesitate one moment as she leaned down to kiss him.

 

“Miss me?” Inuyasha asked as he smiled back at her.

 

“I thought you weren't coming until later.” She asked.

 

“I caught an earlier flight.” Inuyasha said. He set her down and they walked into the kitchen.

 

“Are you hungry?” She asked.

 

“Yeah, plane food tastes like shit. I couldn't eat one bite.” Inuyasha said.

 

“How was everything?” Kagome asked as she pulled out a pan to boil water for his favorite, ramen.

 

“Bullshit! That bastard went to Hong Kong and Sei came too!” Inuyasha shouted. “He was hiding everything from me because if I knew that bastard was coming then I would've stepped off the plane right then and there!”

 

“You didn't know Sei was going?” Kagome asked.

 

“No! He had him sit to where I would never notice him!” Inuyasha said. “Fucking idiot lied to me! A lot! I'm never going anywhere again!”

 

“Come on it couldn't have been that bad.” Kagome giggled.

 

Inuyasha grabbed her arm and pulled her into his lap. He wrapped his arms around her and inhaled her scent. “It was bad. I missed you.” He whispered.

 

“I missed you to.” Kagome kissed his cheek. He tightened his hold on her causing her to yell out. “Itai!”

 

“What's wrong?” Inuyasha released his hold on her and smelled for any cuts. “What happened?”

 

“Nothing.” Kagome stood up and headed back to the stove.

 

Inuyasha grabbed her wrist and pulled her back into his lap. He could smell blood coming from her arm. She was wearing a long sleeved dress. He used his claws and cut her sleeve completely off, revealing her arm and bandages.

 

“What the fuck happened?” He growled.

 

“Inuyasha! This is my favorite dress!” She shouted.

 

“Don't change the subject! What happened?” He asked again. He gently took off the bandages and saw three deep lashes.

 

“I was helping Kaede-sama teach a miko and some youkai attacked.” Kagome said. “This was the only injury I got and its nothing.”

 

“Nothing? The wound reopened.” Inuyasha said. He sat up and set down in the chair. He turned the stove off and went to the bathroom to get the first aid kit. Once he got it he went back into the kitchen and kneeled down on the floor next to her to bandage her wound.

 

“It was nothing.” Kagome sighed. “You worry too much.”

 

“What happened? I know that bullshit you gave me was the short story.” Inuyasha said.

 

“I guess I should explain from the beginning but you aren't going to like it. Remember to keep it down, Shippo and Inuko are sleeping so no yelling.” Kagome warned.

 

“Whatever just tell me.” Inuyasha finished wrapping her bandages. “Let's go into the bedroom.”

 

Once they were in the bedroom Inuyasha shut the door. They both sat on the bed and Kagome took in a deep breath before looking at him.

 

“Well lately I've been having a nightmare. I've had it more often lately and it's always the same. Each time I have it, it gets stronger. It's usually the same or pretty similar. I start out in a dark place and hear screaming, so much that I have to cover my ears. I drop to the ground yelling for it to stop and then I wake up.” Kagome explained. She started getting shaky remembering.

 

Inuyasha noticed and wrapped his arms around her. As much as he wanted to yell at her for keeping this from him, it wasn't what she needed at the moment and she wasn't finished with her explanation. “Go on.” He said.

 

“Last night it got worse...I was near the Tokyo Tower and the people there were horrified but they were stuck in their position, like they were frozen. They were trying to run from the tower. I heard someone laughing and they were on top of the tower, but as soon as I tried going towards him the people started moving again. I couldn't get very far and before I got too far the screaming got too much and I fell to the ground screaming for it to stop. I woke up from it.” Kagome said.

 

“You shouldn't have kept this from me.” Inuyasha said. “Why did you?”

 

“I didn't want you to overreact. You get so overprotective. I wanted to be sure of my dreams before I told you just in case it might have been nothing but when we were attacked by the youkai I think its more important and not just something in my head.” Kagome explained. She gripped his shirt tighter.

 

“What happened with the youkai?” Inuyasha asked.

 

“His name was Yasuo. He said he was sent by someone but he didn't say who.” Kagome said. “He said since you were gone he was coming after me. He said you weren't worth his time.”

 

“That bastard!” Inuyasha growled. “I can't believe he waited until I was gone. I'm glad your okay. We'll just have to be more careful and try to find out who's after you.”

 

“Hai.” Kagome replied.

 

“I'm never leaving again.” Inuyasha said strictly. “Any time I'm gone these types of things happen and I'm not taking that risk again.”

 

“See your overreacting.” Kagome sighed but then hugged him. “I'm glad that you won't be leaving though. I did miss you. I almost regretted making you go.”

 

“Almost?”

 

“Well I did enjoy you not being overprotective of me.” Kagome giggled.

 

“Keh! You were supposed to be resting this week and you ended up helping some miko in training and got injured! Don't say its nothing because those cuts are deep!” Inuyasha scolded. “You can't keep saying it's nothing when its something! You are going to the doctor tomorrow for a check up!”

 

“I don't like the doctor.” Kagome pouted.

 

“It doesn't matter! You are going!” Inuyasha said. He leaned in so their foreheads were touching and looked into her eyes. “I don't want to risk losing you. If anything were to happen to you I don't know what I'd do.”

 

“You'd take care of Shippo and Inuko.” Kagome said.

 

“Be serious!” Inuyasha snapped. “If anything were to happen to any of you, I don't know what I'd do...”

 

“Gomen, I won't joke around with that then.” Kagome said. She leaned in to kiss him on the lips. “I can't promise anything but I'll try to be more careful, for your sake and the kids.”

 

“That's all I ask.” He moved up further on the bed urging Kagome to do the same. She laid down with her head on the pillow. He laid down and put his head on her chest. “What did you do while I was gone?”

 

“I just went to see Kaede-sama. I helped Nami with her miko training. She doesn't have much power but she wants to learn how to control it.” Kagome said. “I think it's to boost her confidence.”

 

“You're teaching now?” Inuyasha asked.

 

“Just the one time. She's afraid of youkai and I was trying to tell her not all youkai are bad. I told her about you and Shippo. She thinks I'm too young to have a husband and children.”

 

“Like its anyone's business if we are married or mated at a young age.” Inuyasha said. “Or have kids.”

 

“Hai, hai.” Kagome said as she began to rub his ears. “I already know that.”

 

“Keh! It was bad enough to have to suffer through that party and listening to everyone's comments about us.” Inuyasha said. He started to growl contently. “I hear it all the time and I'm tired of it.”

 

“Ne, Inuyasha why didn't you call me?”

 

“As soon as we got off the plane we went straight to the meeting room and got ready for the presentation. Right after that we had to attend lunch with our new business members. After that we had to get tuxes fitted for another party. That didn't end until late in the morning and when we got back to the hotel the phone lines were down.” Inuyasha said. “I swear Sesshomaru had this planned.”

 

“I'm sure he did.” Kagome said. “I think Shippo and Inuko will be happy to see you, especially since you agreed to spend time with the both of them.”

 

“After your doctor's appointment.” Inuyasha said.

 

“Hai, hai.” Kagome rolled her eyes.

 

“Then we're going out to dinner that evening.”

 

“I thought I was supposed to be resting?” Kagome giggled.

 

“Eating doesn't take any kind of energy.” Inuyasha said. He then quickly sat up and started sniffing the air.

 

“What is it?” Kagome asked.

 

“Youkai.” He said. “In Inuko's room!”

 

“Inuko!” Kagome said.

 

They both got up and ran to his room. Inuyasha kicked the door open, knocking it off its hinges and ran inside. Shippo was in front of Inuko's crib shooting off foxfire. A youkai was shielding himself across the room. The youkai looked like Yasuo but he had blue hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a black ninja outfit.

 

“Shippo!” Kagome ran to him and Inuko throwing a shield around them. “Are you okay?”

 

“Who the fuck are you?” Inuyasha growled at the youkai.

 

“I'm Etsuo! I came for the miko who killed my brother!” He shouted. “I was told the hanyou wouldn't be here!”

 

“Someone sent you knowing I was gone?” Inuyasha asked. “Who sent you?”

 

“Like I'd tell you! I wasn't even going to take the job of killing the miko. That is until she killed my brother!” Etsuo growled. “Yasuo only took the job because he wanted out! It was the only way and you killed him!”

 

“He was trying to kill me! What was I supposed to do? I warned him to leave and he wouldn't do it!” Kagome shouted. “If you have any problems then you should've come after me not my children!”

 

“You took someone close to me! It's only fair you go through the same!” Etsuo shouted.

 

“I'm tired of listening to your bullshit. Not only did you come here trying to kill my mate but you also tried to attack my children! You're not going to live long enough to take revenge for your brother!” Inuyasha growled violently. He ran towards him and without any effort at all shoved his hand through his stomach.

 

Etsuo spit out blood before smirking. “Someone else will take to the job until it's completed.” He managed to cough out. “He won't stop until the miko is dead. He'll go through you if he has to.”

 

Inuyasha dropped Etsuo to the ground. He coughed one last time before he disappeared. After a couple minutes of contemplating what he said he went to his family. Kagome wasn't out of danger. There would be more coming. He needed to talk to Sesshomaru and try to get to the bottom of this.

 

“Are you all okay?” He asked.

 

“What happened?” Kagome asked Shippo. She held Inuko in her arms trying to calm him down.

 

“I was going to the bathroom when I heard a noise in Inuko's room. When I walked in the youkai just smashed through the window. I went in front of Inuko's crib and used all the foxfire I could.” Shippo said.

 

“I'm so proud of you!” Kagome hugged him. “Are you hurt?”

 

“No, I'm fine.” Shippo smiled at the praise. “Otou-san! When did you get back?”

 

“A while ago.” Inuyasha hugged him. “Good job protecting your brother.”

 

“I'm tired.” Shippo said and slumped in Inuyasha's arms.

 

“You must've used a lot of foxfire.” Inuyasha said. He stood up with Shippo in his arms. “Come on let's all sleep in our room. I'll get someone to fix the window tomorrow.”

 

“Good idea.” Kagome said.

 

They all left the room shutting it behind them. Once they were in the room Inuyasha put a sleeping Shippo under the covers. Kagome did the same with Inuko and changed into her pajamas before crawling under the covers. Inuyasha changed also changed and laid down. He wouldn't be sleeping much that night.
