~~~last time~~~
Jakotsu having slunk out of the house without being noticed by Sango was now at his brother side, a reassuring hand placed on his arm.
Sango was used to being surrounded. Being a scientist sometime got you more attention then you wanted. But usually it was human attention she received. Never had she experienced being surrounded by demons and never in her life did she want to continue experiencing it. Kagome on the other hand wasn't in the least fazed that there were five demons all of which were armed; this wasn't counting Shippo that had the potential to become dangerous. Yet she seemed at an uncanny ease with this situation as she lead the group into the living room.
~~~Afterward~~~

Kagome finally understood why she hadn't fulfilled that idea of becoming a school teacher. Now seated in a living room that definitely wasn't demon proof or built to hold such a crowd was now compact and the rolling with the tensile energies from everyone was weaving intricate patterns that wrote in invisible letters.

Someone's going to die…

Exasperated she heaved a sigh as her eyes ventured the length of the room and its current occupants. Sango, their ever so jittery but gracious hostess was attempting to be civil amongst the horde though her agitation was apparent and none but her heeded it. And maybe Jakotsu, but other than that no one bothered to acknowledge her distress.

Kouga had attempted to sit down beside Kagome but was not allowed the pleasure seeing as Jakotsu and Bankotsu fended him off with hateful glares and plastered themselves on either side of her. They still had their weapons which seemed rural in this culturally decorated living space.

Seeing he was denied he took residence by the door frame, leaning against it with folded arms, brows knotted as he tried to construct a plan to hopefully engage them. The only thing Kagome could think of about Ginta and Hakakku were that they were joined at the hip because they never left each others side and they flanked Kouga wherever he was. They themselves were seated cross legged on the floor in front of the said wolf demon looking oddly enough like a pair of dogs at the feet of their master.

Miroku sustained minimal damage; he however needed a small bandage on his cheek where Jakotsu's blade had nicked him. He too was on the carpeted floor his staff held against his shoulder with his back to the wall closest to Sango, fidgeting on the couch.

She had the misfortune to be between not only Miroku and Ketsumaru as well. The flaxen hued dragon wasn't too fond of the cramped area, forever glancing at the door as if expecting someone to simply appear. He was forced to sit at an odd angle in order to abide his equipment. With a sword at either hip he had to maneuver himself sideways, one arm draped over the back of the couch, one leg dangling over the sofa while the other was propped up on the arm.

Shippo had become fully attentive after his scare outside. His tail however quivered every now and then to indicate he was still shaken up, he keenly avoided Bankotsu and Ketsumaru in particular. He entertained himself by playing with Buyo who meowed as the little hands tickled his belly.

Kagome found explaining to her demon company harder then expected. They forever questioned her and constantly bickered with one another. The endeavors she made to quell the tension between the demons and humans reminded Kagome of a room of rowdy first graders at recess. They just never stopped.

Kouga and Ketsumaru appeared to be well acquainted with one another which meant Ginta and Hakakku didn't make their quips at the lounging dragon. But Jakotsu didn't abide by their rules and when either wolf or dragon spoke he usually had a smart remark which caused the wolves to bristle and bark back insults on human inadequacy. This in the presence of Sango and Kagome made them feel slightly insufficient but then that subsided and replaced with annoyance. Then the dragon would laugh and Bankotsu would make a threat only to receive a taunting smirk which made him even more verbally combative if not allowed physically, then orally.

The more she spoke the harder it became to sit idle and watch them argue. The vindictive aura each of them was releasing was become so potent it was a cloying factor in the air that was strong enough for Kagome's `feeble' human senses to detect.

Hands clenched in her lap as she tried, seriously she tried to restrain the slowly brewing cauldron of irritation. But when these grown men were acting like four year olds she didn't have a lot of restraint left.

“Shut up all of you!” Surprisingly the voice that erupted wasn't hers, nor was it Sango's. Kismet, the little mousy scientist in training was standing in the doorway. All heads snapped attentively to the speaker, each surprised that the girl they had disregarded had suddenly exploded.

Kismet growled hands placed on her hips as she glared at the bickering men who tensed or met her gaze. “You all should be ashamed of yourselves! All of you are supposed to be helping Kagome not causing her more trouble! You have two options. Hear each other out and get used to one another's company. Or walk out the door and don't come back.” She barked pointing to the door as if to emphasize her words.

Bankotsu lounged back still holding his sword in his hand which thoroughly unnerved Kagome seated between him and his brother.

Kouga sighed hand rising to his pent up hair, “Alright sorry for my insensitivity Kagome, and Sango I presume.” He said taking a moment to glance over at the brunette who nodded her acknowledgement.

“Alright seeing that we are on some mutual standing, Kouga,” Miroku piped up looking towards the wolf demon and his attendants. “What brings the prince of the wolf pack to such a humble abode?”

The two mortal women had matching expressions as they now turned to an almost sheepish looking wolf demon who passively scratched at his cheek. Tail swished nervously and he tugged a bit at his collar.

“Um, well first of all I wanted to make sure Kagome was alright. I dropped her off at the hospital a few days ago so I just wanted to make sure she was in good condition.”

With this Shippo released a snort of disbelief gaining a disapproving growl from Hakakku.

Miroku too seemed speculative on the demons motives but let is slide, he wasn't a threat which was all he cared about. However there was a threat in the room. “Ketsumaru?”

“hn?”

“Why are you here?”

“Looking for Inuyasha.”

“Why?”

“He ran off.”

“Doesn't he always?”

Ketsumaru released a disconcerted growl opening his eyes to the monk. “I'm not here to play twenty questions, raccoon; I have to find the hanyou before he does something stupid.”

Shippo, still toying with Buyo didn't bother to turn as he spoke. “Sounds to me like he was put up to it.”

There was a loud smack as the Ketsumaru's tail connected with the back of the fox demons head. Clutching the spot Shippo got up, bristling angrily from being struck. “Hey! It's not like I called you pussy whipped or something!” he barked only to receive another strike, unfortunately a frontal one that hit him in the face sending him flopping backwards.

Kagome got up off the couch and picked up the little boy, a red welt forming on his left cheek as tears welled in his large green eyes. “T-that hurt…” he murmured burying his face in Kagome's outstretched arms. Ketsumaru snorted. “It was supposed to Baka kitsune…”

“That's enough. Ketsu-baka or whatever your name is, leave right now!” Sango yelled sitting beside him she dared to yell directly in his ears. The sensitive outlets rung soundly in the demons head and he growled at the punishment. “I can't as much as I'd like to my only option in my current situation is to draw the hanyou out of hiding.” He snarled through gritted teeth trying to stop the insistent ringing in his head and the thumping of his ear drums. “Just watch Inuyasha's going to come through that door and then I'll be off.”

Kismet sighed seeing the situation was partially in control and went back towards the kitchen. “I'm going to make something to hopefully calm our nerves.” She muttered as she sauntered out of sight.

Kagome felt a massive headache sprouting and it wasn't even five yet…With a heavy sigh she picked Shippo up and resumed sitting between her newly hired body guards. She wasn't ungrateful for the protection that was being offered but she also didn't want her privacy invaded. Every other day she felt like a celebrity, but when had it reached the point she needed bouncers and muscle just to walk the streets.

There was an audible sound of footsteps ascending the porch and reaching the door. Before Kagome could see who it was the figure had vanished behind one of the porches pillars and was opening the door.

Like Ketsumaru had expected to happen she watched as the golden haired dragon demon leapt from the couch and to the door. However there was one mistake. It wasn't Inuyasha walking through the door. Another brunette entered the room and Ketsumaru was forced to catch himself before he crashed into the smaller form. Puzzled emerald eyes met russet colored eyes and blinked in confusion. Kagome and Sango mentally slapped themselves, only now recalling that Kohaku got released from school at two twenty nine and was back usually at two fifty-eight.

There was a pregnant silence as a bemused blonde demon stared down at the lightly freckled face of the teen that tilted his head in an almost cat-like manner to examine him.

“Sango, why are we letting a bunch of demons in the house?” he asked staring passively at the dragon who regained his composure. “And why is there a hole in the side of the house?” he asked and though surprise and uncertainty was detectable in his scent, he conveyed neither emotion.

“Just go do your homework Kohaku or go outside, I'll explain it to you later.” Sango replied waving off the teenager who nodded and obliged by walking up the stairs which was more or less a war zone at the top.

“So much for those `superior' demonic senses.” This was the taunt from Bankotsu, finally having some substance to his mockery other then heritage. Ketsumaru whirled around eyes ablaze with a resentful fury that bordered on something murderous. “I'll have your head if you make another comment.” Was the snarl through bared fangs, the glorious face contorted in rage only heightened Bankotsu's satisfaction.

Miroku seeing the fight already manifesting sighed with a great deal of patience. He could withstand this banter but Kagome and Sango appeared at their wits end and he dearly did not wish to be on the receiving end of whatever they unleashed.

“Ketsumaru, Bankotsu, cease and desist.”

The feuding pair turned their eyes to the Tanuki each wearing their simulation of vehemence either towards one another or to the interloper.

Gray blue eyes focused on the two with a firm resolve, “This home we have entered is not our own, we are merely guests and look what trouble we have caused already. If we are supposed to be protecting Kagome then let that be our only purpose.” There was an ebbing in the energies as he continued. “There is a war going on outside as it is, lets not bring it inside as well or there's no hope for peace between either human or demon.”

Sango cast a grateful smile towards the monk, but then again, that expression faded as quickly as it surfaced with the roving hand of the demon found her knee and though it was soothingly stroking it there was a strange intimacy with the touch that made her face heat up.

“Besides too much stress is bad for a woman's beauty.” Was his musing words as if the gesture was strictly consoling though even Shippo seated in Kagome's lap, was able to interpret the Houshi's intentions.

“Perv...” Came Shippo's disapproving grunt.

“Letch” Kouga growled echoed by Ginta and Hakakku

“Let go!” Sango hissed slapping the Monk's hands from her and scooting over only to bump into Ketsumaru whom she strangely did not recall reseating himself. His body loomed greatly over hers and she found herself staring into those piercing emerald eyes momentarily mesmerized. The look in her gaze was unexplainable, dismayed yet fascinated the way a bird watched the snake oblivious to the fact it was in a trap.

The flying serpent demon grinned, a flash of fangs and all male charisma that made Sango's face heat even more then it should have. “Uh…Sorry…” she muttered moving back to her original position and putting her hands in her lap.
Mentally she cursed herself for acting like a shy school girl, but nothing could be done now and she would have to endure whatever became of it.

The scent of chocolate was wafting through the room and the aroma was uncannily soothing. Kagome absently closed her eyes, absorbing the fragrance and releasing a tension that hadn't been there before, or perhaps she just hadn't noticed it until then. The effects seemed to be the same for Sango as well; even the demons seemed less inclined to blow each other's heads off.

Kouga grumbled and Kagome reopened her eyes to stare at the wolf demon. “The other reason I came here was because of Inuyasha as well.”

The people in the room seemed ready to listen.

“Evidence was salvaged from the attack on your home, which should be airing at around six tonight by the way, among blood samples, bone and flesh remnants we confiscated a sword wielded by the hanyou.” He snarled the word hanyou as if it were something vile.

Kagome inwardly wondered if Kouga had some sort of gripe with Inuyasha or perhaps it was just half demons in general. The silence that ensued was short lived because there was an audible sound of heavy footsteps descending the staircase that was accompanied by a stream of incoherent curses from baritone vocals.

“Geez, I leave for a few days and you're already getting into more trouble then you're worth.” Came the ever so confident snarl from the much anticipated silver haired dog demon, who dared to appear sauntering down the stairs in a huff.

An almost expected wave of relief washed over Kagome who moved to greet the demon but was beaten there by Ketsumaru's unbelievable speed. He'd moved in a way that made her flinch away.

The two demons stared each other down. Actually, Inuyasha had to stare up since Ketsumaru was six feet and he was only 5' 8.

The tension that rose between the two was equivalent to what Kagome had been feeling all day long and now it seemed to have doubled. She groaned her hand massaging her temple with agitation. The damage done to the house was going to be pricey enough and she really didn't need them destroying the stairs…

“Inuyasha you left without saying a word to anyone.” Ketsumaru growled eyes boring holes into the half demon who growled a reply.

“Yeah, so what? I do it all the time why is my sudden disappearance important to you now?” He growled in no mood to speak with the pompous dragon and making a move to step around him only for the man to block his path. Kagome was Inuyasha's target and he wasn't getting there.

This make doggy mad….

“Ketsumaru get out of the way.”

“Inuyasha I have come here strictly to tell you something or dire importance that concerns you and your woman.” Ketsumaru snarled making it evident he didn't want to be in the way either.

Suddenly intrigued Kagome stepped a bit closer listening attentively.

“Fine what do you have to say that's so important?” Inuyasha said, folding his arms across his chest lazily as the golden dragon inhaled nervously.

Whatever it was it was getting on Ketsumaru's nerves and this meant he didn't like it and as much as he detested admitting this, Inuyasha probably wouldn't either. The youkai's fear scent was emitting from him in strident waves making the dog demon amused from the aroma before and making him nauseas all at the same time.

“Inuyasha, will you be my best man?” Ketsumaru blurted out his eyes sealed shut and hands balled into fist; droplets of sweat rolling from his face as he finally produced his message.

*everyone who knows Ketsumaru face-falls*

“YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS!”
