Chapter Two
Disclaimer: I wish. In fact, I wish for a lot of things.
(< > = thoughts)
Inu-Yasha sat sulking in the Goshinboku. He watched as Shippo started to yell at him but he didnt hear any of it. He let his thoughts wander. As always, they wandered directly to Kagome. He admitted it. He liked the girl, but he would fight anyone tooth and nail if he had to admit it out loud. He was hurt every time she cried and was afraid for her every time they got in trouble.
Kagome. She was a beautiful mystery.
Appearance-wise, she was a beautiful girl of fifteen. She always wore her battle gear consisting of a green skirt and a green and white shirt, as she insisted on calling such. The ensemble was called a fuku altogether. Inu-Yasha just shook his head at the whole silly concept about worrying what you wore and how you looked in it. She had long dark brown hair that he longed to touch and warm brown eyes, in which he could lose himself.
Inside, she was caring and demanding at the same time. When did woman get such backbone? In the future, of course. He shuddered to think of the poor guys who got stuck with girls with Kagomes mentality. She seemed to understand him most of the time. Most importantly, she stood by him when<what was the way she phrased it?>the world walked out? Yes, she was his angel.
<And shes probably running back home to go out with the Hojo!>
He winced. He never said the right things, he let his anger and image get the better of him, and sometimes, he was just a jerk.
<After all, I really dont need anyone to care about me.> His thoughts dipped with sarcasm. He sighed.
<FIVE DAYS?!?>
She must have been really angry with him. Normally, she only stayed away for two or three days. What was he going to do? He could go get her but she always hate him when he did that. Besides, he didnt feel like kissing the Earth again any time soon. He couldnt just wait.
<Naw, that would drive me insane.>
He couldwait three days and go then. What! What was he worrying about. He didnt need some stupid, slow, and pathetic human GIRL to be with him.
Hmph. He fold his arms across his shoulders in the most mulish manner. And then as he tensed, he relented.
<Who am I trying to kid? I need her. I love her.> He shivered, thinking about a certain word of command. <Im afraid of her.>

Kagome sighed in frustration as she flopped down on her bed. Why was Inu-Yasha always so unreasonable? She watched as Buyo climbed up onto her bed and he himself flopped down next to her. He was her buddy, always there through every tear and laugh in her little room. Yet, he never realized how much he comforted her.
<Why cant that damn dog be more like my cat?>
She turned onto her back. Buyo cuddled up next to her, silently asking to be petted.
<Whats Inu-Yashas problem anyway? Oh, and Kami, why was he always on her mind?>
As her original anger ebbed, she was only left with regret. She could not help sitting him when he made her so mad! She didnt have the best reins on her temper either. He didnt help.
He wasamazing yet annoying. Inu-Yashas long silvery hair that she wanted to play with and his golden demon eyes that pierced her soul. And his ears
<Oh, Kami, how much I want to touch those ears. Kawaii!>
He was so hot and sexy yet at the same time his attitude was a major turn off. Kagome, though, had slowly learned to tolerate that attitude because it was only a fascade. Kagome tried to imagine him as a small child. She tried to imagine different circumstances. Surprisingly, it wasnt that hard. One scene played over in her minds eye.
< Kagome-chan! Come on! A small Inu-kun ran to the pond as Kagome followed eagerly. He stopped just at the very edge while Kagome didnt notice. She ren right into him. They both ended up in three inches of mud and pond water. Inu-chan looked indignantly at Kagome as she giggled. His frown turned into a mischievous smile as he grabbed a handful of mud. Kagome realized what he was doing but it was too late. Inu-Yasha had thrown a fistful of mud in her hair. She turned to cry and he got worried.
Kagome-chan! Im s, he was interrupted as brown muck smacked him in the face. Why, you!
Lots of flying brown slimy Earth ensued.>
Kagome smiled. Then she snapped out of it. She needed to get to work, not daydream. She looked around for her math book. Unable to find it, she remember the last time it disappeared.
<He will be coming to get me soon, right? To save me from this pile of schoolwork and boredom? But then Ill have to tell him I cant go. I really do want to go away for awhile. Hell be coming again, right?>

Shippo sat on a large rock watching over his family.
<Heh. Theyre no family of mine. One sulks, two ignore me, and one leaves me.>
Shippo stomach growled loudly. He patted in the most childlike manner and said, I know, I know. But Kagome isnt back with her good food yet. What am I going to do?
He sighed. He looked up and watched the clouds pass over. One by one by one.
<What am I going to do? Kagome wont come home until Inu-Yasha comes. Inu-Yasha wont because hes too self-righteous. Miroku is busy bothering Sango, whos busy avoiding him. Were not getting anywhere and Im starving.> The little kitsune was on verge of tears.
<Even if I did cry, no one would hear me.> He sniffled.
Kagome was the only person who cared about him. Frankly, he didnt want her attention to spread to Inu-Yasha and leave him behind. The bastard didnt deserve it. On the other hand, he didnt want to see Kagome unhappy.
<Sango and Miroku hardly noticed I was there,> he remembered the Kouga incident. Inu-Yasha, well, it seemed like he hated Shippo.
<I cant help the fact that Im not their ages.> Shippo sighed again. <I really need a life. One where someone actually loves me and is always there for me. Kagome does that but shes not always there. I understand why though.>
<Oh, well.> He mentally kicked himself, watching the clouds float by without cares. <Stop feeling sorry for yourself, go find some food.> He ordered himself. Walking pat the Goshinboku, he saw Inu-Yasha wasnt there.
<Theres no surprise, hes probably pacing back and forth at the well.>
Five minutes later, Shippo found himself in the middle of an empty camp. Everyone was gone. <Whered they all go? The fire had died sometime last night. Shippo decided hed collect some wood and then go fishing. Fifteen minutes later found him struggling with the wood as he built a fire. One it was set, he headed towards the river.
Shippo walked up to the gently flowing stream and stared at his reflection. Collecting himself, he put his tail in the water and waited. Sure enough, he got a bite and flicked his tail so the fish land on the bank. Quickly, Shippo round up five fish and broke their necks swiftly. He put them on sticks and tottered back to the fire.
Before he got there he found a small cluster of mushrooms. There were four small ones, about five centimeters each, and a very large one, about sixteen centimeters.
<This is a nice surprise.>
He picked up the mushrooms and gather his fish, heading back off towards the fire. As the scent of fish and mushrooms filled the air, he looked down at his battered tail. Shippo knew the scent would cause Inu-Yasha, Miroku, and Sango to come running. Realizing he had five fish and only four people to feed, he sighed. Inu-Yasha and Miroku came to camp in a hurry. Each grabbed a fish and two of the small mushrooms. Shippo looked at his food, a small fish and the large mushroom.
Sango isnt coming to eat and Kagome isnt here, Miroku said. So Inu-Yasha and I will just help ourselves to the two extra fish. Thanks Shippo!
Shippo just looked up and them and sighed again.
<If only Kagome was here.>
