Disclaimer: I don't own InuYasha...or Kagome...or Miroku, or Sango, or anyone else in this fiction. They're all the belongings of their creator, Rumiko Takahashi...and as much as I might not like that, I shall respect it. But I'm still borrowing them...so there! xP

Recap:

She glanced around, before getting up, and she looked down at herself with a small frown. She continued to look around, before calling for her parents again. Receiving no answer she sniffled, and turned her attention to the strange people staring at her.

“Who are you?”

Chapter 3: Maybe things won't be so bad after all...

The collective group just stared, which began to creep the little girl out even more. She pulled the sleeping bag up to hide everything but her eyes, and she held it tightly.

“Who are you? Where's my momma?”

She sniffled, and looked like she was about to cry. Sure they didn't look that scary...but she was still a bit scared. As if snapping from her daze, Sango frowned and spoke up.

“You don't remember us Kagome?”

The girl in question shook her head wildly, letting the blanket fall somewhat, but was still clutching it for dear life.

“Well...this certainly is a predicament...”

Little Kagome jumped, startled by the new voice and turned her head slowly, until her eyes fell upon Miroku, who was behind her, cutting off her only remaining escape option. Feeling overcrowded and startled, she sniffled again and buried herself under the blanket with a cry. Muffled sniffles could be heard, as well as small `I want my momma' or `Where's my daddy?' could be heard too.

“Miroku! You had to go ahead and scare her! Poor girl's scared enough as it is...”

The monk in question turned to look at the fox kit, before simply reaching over and bopping him on the head.

“Hey! That wasn't nice! What if you make Kagome think you'd hit her like you hit me?”

“I won't though.”

“She doesn't know that you moron...”

“Oh you're one to talk InuYasha...”

“Monk you're just begging for a beating!”

“ENOUGH!”

At this everyone stopped, even Kagome, who just whimpered and after a moment started crying again under the blanket.

“You're all morons! You're scaring the poor girl! She's crying and hiding because of you idiots! You have to be calm, and open...”

“Eh...Sango? I think you just scared her even more with your outburst.”

A frown crossed the face of the slayer and she sighed before nodding.

“You're probably right Shippo...but what should we do? I don't know how to take care of a child...do any of you?”

While the adults were talking, little Kagome was planning her own escape. She began to crawl slowly, and hopefully inconspicuously, away from them. However she didn't count on Shippo noticing her.

“Where are you going Kagome? It's dangerous out there...”

Startled by the pop and sudden appearance of the fox in front of her, she squeaked and turned tail and ran the opposite way, straight to InuYasha. She looked up at him fearfully for a moment, before blinking and backing up a step. Sango, Miroku, and Shippo all watched as the girl raised her arms, asking to be picked up, which of course the hanyou stared for a second, before slowly picking her up to his eye level.

Of course, she wasn't paying any attention to that fact. She was staring at his twitching ears, before reaching up to grab one gently.

“Puppy man!”

At that exclamation InuYasha nearly dropped Kagome.

“...say what?! Hold on there...I ain't no `puppy man'...you hear me?”

He held her a bit more firmly, gaining her attention from his ears by tweaking her nose gently.

“Understand?”

Eyes wide, Kagome nodded, but as his ears twitched her expression softened and she relaxed. She shifted some, so she was sitting down in his lap, and then snuggled close to him with a content sigh.

“Well...it looks like that problem was just taken care of. InuYasha where did you learn to do that?”

The hanyou in question shrugged, glancing down at the girl silently sitting in his lap, who was eyeing his haori and tugging on it lightly.

“Just instinctual really...I would have never thought to do that.”

Sango smiled as she gazed upon them, before picking up Shippo and standing herself.

“Help me with breakfast Shippo?”

The kit in question smiled, and nodded his head enthusiastically.

“Let's do it!”

Miroku smiled as he watched the two start making breakfast, Kirara also padding behind them as they headed towards the fire. His gaze then shifted to Inuyasha who was looking down at the child Kagome with an unreadable expression, watching as the girl fiddled with his haori, and even stuck her head in the large sleeve before pulling it out.

And on that note I end this chapter. I think it was cute...but you can tell me if you don't feel the same way, mmkay? Review if you want, but it would be appreciated. Ja! *waves and walks off*
