Children of the Sun and Moon
Prologue
During the Reign of Darkness
Four hundred and fifty years ago in a time of great evil, lies the Kingdom of Four Souls, also known as Kingdom of Shikon, and within that kingdom lays four elemental regions, each wielding one of the soul's elemental powers.
In the far north is the region of Rime, which lies beneath mounds and mounds of snow. Its elemental power, water, is beyond astonishing. The ruler of that region was Lord Yuki, a neko youkai. Able to manipulate water into many forms, the king of the north rules all that is his to command, but even with the ice exterior, the kingdom is ruled by a regale king with a heart full of loyalty and kindness.
In the south lays the region of Inferno, powered by the element of fire. An element that is known to cause destruction and mayhem, the ruler, Lord Akira, a wolf youkai, does not use it as such. The land, which is surrounded by volcanic mountain, is geographically shaped to suit the need to the people of that land. Able to control the flow of the lavas, they can protect themselves against oncoming invaders and are able to live their lives peacefully, even with the heat surrounding them.
As we head west, we come to the regions of Zephyr, containing the elemental powers of the wind. This region, unlike others, was rule by a ruthless tyrant, Lord Inu no Taisho, an inu youkai, who uses the element only for his own needs. People cower in fear as they watch the destruction of the ones that are closes to them that dares to defy his orders, for they are too afraid to face the wraith that is their ruler. Pity upon their poor souls and all that falls beneath them.
In the far reaches towards the eastern border, lays the region of Terrain, possessor of the element earth. This region was not ruled by a youkai, but by a powerful priest, Lord Kazuki, who was respected by many demons and feared by others. Known to be the most gentle of region, it is also known to be the strongest. None has yet to witness its power, but a legend, that was once history and believed to be true, were told of it magnificence that shook the Kingdom of Four Souls into a shattering daze. Although we cannot bring it to fact, none dare to test its limits.
Each was gifted by these elements for their different strengths and characteristic.
In this time of great evil, the dark lord Naraku plots to obtain the elemental power of the four souls. Destroying live without a care, he rampage through the kingdom seeking those who will succumb to his power and obey his every commands.
It was known that the dark lord seeks the alliance of the Zephyr lord, and many hearts fell into despair for they thought that he would accept Naraku's offer. To their astonishment the king refuse and banish the dark lord to never step foot upon his land ever again, and because of the lord's action, they began to have new respect for him, for although his wraith is death, he was a man who protects what is his.
Naraku was truly livid for afterward he sent his dark minions to destroy the region of Zephyr. Lord Inu no Taisho sent many brave warriors into battle; they won for the time being, but lost many men. Although a prideful ruler, he knew that to truly defeat Naraku, he would have to seek the help of the other regions.
From the north, Lord Yuki, from the south, Lord Akira, and from the east, Lord Kazuki, all came to join with forces with Lord Inu no Taisho to be rid of the dark lord.
For four years, Naraku's reign of darkness continues and it was lead to the final battle that laid in the center of the kingdom where all four elemental powers were at their strongest. They knew that they could not destroy Naraku; however, they were able to seal him with their combined powers.
As the four lords surrounded the Naraku, they trap him with their combine powers, but looking for a mean to escape, the dark lord lifted into the sky to fly away.
Thanks to the power of wind, all four flew after Naraku and circles him once more, and not to take chances, Inu no Taisho uses a fragment of the wind to bind him in place up in the sky. Akira calls forth lavas from far beneath the earth, surrounding Naraku's body, swirling in a form of a gigantic mountain, while Yuki summons water to his command to quickly harden the hot lavas.
As the Naraku's body is sealed, Yuki uses the water to surround the base of the mountain as an enchanted lake that will summon fogs to confuse whosoever tries to reach the isle with the mountain residing in the middle. Inu no Taisho then summons an enchanted wind to help ensure the fog travels around the mountain, a mean to cause more confusion.
Kazuki then commands the earth to shoot forth vines of briars and thorns, growing thicker and longer with their combine powers, to encircle the mountain for further protection.
To finish the sealing of the dark lord, all four kings gather their energy into a glowing entity of swirling colored globes upon their hands.
Blue, the entity color of water.
Red, the entity color of fire.
Green, the entity color of wind.
Yellow, the entity color of earth.
All four globes shot into the sky above but as the four were to combined, a powerful being appeared in the center in an enthralling of white light, with the globes circling the being. A beautiful woman was seen as the white light ebb away, only now emitting from her pale white skin. Then the being spoke.
“I am Midoriko,” she said, her voice soft and angelic, but powerful and dangerous.
“What are you Midoriko?” asked Inu no Taisho, the first who dare to speak after her sudden appearance.
“Yes and what is the reason that you are here?” asked Akira.
“I, Midoriko, am the protector of the four souls, once wielder of the four elements. I am here to foretell a prophecy of the coming of two great heroes and the reawakening of the evil here that you are about to seal.”
“What do you mean, reawaken? No one will be able to break this seal that we are to place,” demanded Inu no Taisho.
“I will agree that the seal is powerful, but take heed of my words, lord of the west, for it will be broken. Not in this time, but years later. Some will live long enough to see the outcome and others will not. He will be freed and darkness will once again wreck havoc upon the land, but it can be stop, and that I know for sure.”
“And how is that, milady?” asked Yuki in a respectable tone.
“Two heroes shall be born, one the child of the sun, the other the child of the moon. Each will bear the mark of the sun and moon and together they will be able to destroy the evil one.”
“How are we able to trust you?” inquired Akira.
“You just have to.” The answer was not from Midoriko, but from Kazuki. He had yet to speak until then. “What she says is the truth.”
Midoriko stared into the eyes of Kazuki, many emotions playing across her face in the thorough of seconds. Pain, love, and even lost flashes through her azure eyes.
The three lords watch silently as Kazuki and Midoriko stare at one another. They sense a deep sorrow between the two.
“It has been a long time, Kazuki,” Midoriko said to him.
“Yes it has,” was his only reply.
“Always the quiet one, as I recall, and still is today, I see,” she says to him then turns to the other three, finally breaking eye contact with him. “Take heed of my words, lords of the north, south, and west,” and with that, she waves her hand towards the mountain that sealed Naraku and the four elemental energy balls flew towards the direction of her hand.
The energy combined and with a blast that almost knocked the four lords from the sky, it collided with the mountain in a blaze of color. After the light vanishes, Midoriko was nowhere to be seen and on the mountain was the mark of the sun with a crescent moon curving into the sun.
As four lords were left in a dazed, they return to their regions, their minds heavy with thoughts of what the future will hold. Kazuki, as he heads home, stops and looks into the sky.
“Midoriko, my beloved,” he whispers into the wind, sorrow and pain laced deep within his voice. Their story is something for another time (a/n: probably later on in the next chapter or later) for it is a tale of true sadness.
One thing that did come about good was the king of the west, for although he is still arrogant and a little bit too prideful, he showed more, dare I say, gentleness to the people of his land.
The four now rules their regions in this time of peace. As the generation passes by, the prophecy lodges still in the hearts of every soul, waiting for their arrival when darkness dares to threatens them once more, but it seem that even time changes ones attitude of events long told.
A/N: This is very different outlining for a Sesshoumaru and Kagome fanfics right? But believe it, it will be good……..I hope, anyway. The characters, some anyway, will be a little OOC. Anyway, I just want your opinion if I should continue it or not, so please review and flames are invited, but please, I'm begging you, don't be too harsh. Sayoonara!
