PROLOGUE

An old, old woman who looked no older then 30 stood up from the pallet on the stone floor where she had been resting.  Her long black hair trailed down to her calves. Her hair had always been long except for the one time in her life she'd cut it.  It was perfectly black despite her ancient age, except for two one centimeter wide streaks of pure silver hair in the middle.  She loved those two stripes however, for they were marks to her growth…to her courage. Taking the old leather bond book out of its carrying bag she then made her way through the caverns to the main nursery sitting room. As she walked she caressed the old book lovingly.  She had been the lone author over the years though many voices and tales rested inside. She had started the book when she was 28…so, so long ago.  Her father had secured the hide of an elephant demon for the cover and carrying bag…one of the toughest leathers around, second only to dragons, while her mother had given her permission to use branches of the God Tree to make paper for the pages.  This insured that the book would be around long after she was gone and still be in good condition.  There were two other cheap copies of the book, entrusted to other branches of the family but she had always been the keeper of the original.  Every three years she would gather all the cubs ages 10-12 together so that they could learn the life lessons and history contained in the book as was tradition.
Reaching her destination she saw twelve cubs wrestling, lounging or napping in the room.  Shaking her head slowly she smiled then gave a sharp whistle.  The cub's ears all perked up and within a minute, without her saying a word, they were all sitting on the floor around a single chair that was in the middle of the room.  She made her way to the chair, arranged her long robes and sat down.

“Okay children….today will be your first lesson from the “Book of Time”.  We'll do a couple of hours a day until you are read all the information. This will probably take us about three weeks.  You are to learn this info because it is part of your heritage…part of demon history. I will allow no fooling around…this is important stuff.” She added this last part because she knew cubs were even harder to control then pups. “I hope I make myself clear.  Are there any questions?”  She was not surprised when one cub who she knew to be twelve raised his hand.  “Yes?”

“Granny, why do we have to learn all this junk?  We've all heard stories about the jewel and Naraku since we were babies!” The cub was indignant that he had to waste a fine spring day cooped up, when he could be outside playing and making mischief.”

“Good question.  The tale I'm about to tell you is not about Naraku or the fight to defeat him and reclaim the jewel. These tales will be from the second half of the book and you've never heard them. The Book of Time children is divided in two parts. The first is called “The Keeper's of the Jewel” and deals with the miko from the future, the hanyou dog demon and the hunt for the jewel shards along with the cursed monk and tragic demon slayer who helped. Those are the stories you were told as little children. The second part of the book has only been added a hundred or so years ago. It is called “The Children of the Well” and deals with the keeper's of the jewel, children.” She explained to the rapt children. “Now no more questions.  The sooner I begin the sooner I'll finish.”

Her hand went to the divide in the huge book and flipped it open and started to read. “In the time where demons roamed plentiful and freely over the earth there came to power a foul and evil half demon that the whole world should have feared named Naraku.  After more then 50 years of trickery and evil “the keepers of the jewel” banded together and defeated this evil.  There was a sweet young miko from the future and a stubborn half dog demon. They both had untapped power. With them was a little kitsune demon that later became their son   Traveling and fighting with them was a great but tragic woman who was a demon slayer and a cursed and perverted monk.  Now after the defeat of Naraku the miko, Kagome and the hanyou dog demon, InuYasha mated and had four pups.  While the demon slayer, Sango and the monk, Miroku married and had four children also.  These children grew up very close together.  They were god brothers and sisters every last one of them. The stories I will tell are theirs.  Sagno and Miroku's children were as follows; their fist born was a boy and he was named, Kohaku.  Their second child was also a boy and he was named, Kazuo.  Their third child was another boy and he was named, Kichiro.  Their last child was a girl and her name was, Sachi. Now Kagome and Inuyasha's pups were as follows; their first two pups were twin girls. The oldest by four minutes was named, Chikako while the second twin was named, Michiko. Their third pup was also a girl and her name was, Takara. While their last pup was a boy named, InuTenshi. Last but not least was their adopted son Shippo.”

The old woman paused and glanced up at the waiting cubs giving them a serious look. “Now remember those names and who was born of who, I won't remind you later.  Now let's see what story should I tell you first? Should it be the tale of, A Fox's in Sheep's Clothing, or the Wayward Monk and the Blond Haired Miko?  What about, the tale of Two Gentle Souls, or The Legacy of the Tessaiga?  Maybe, The Magician's Secret…no none of those?  Well I think I'll start more at the beginning.  Our first story will be…”Sins of Responsibilty” This tale is about Inuyasha's oldest daughter Chikako and Miroku's oldest son Kohaku.”  She looked up and saw that all the children were now interested…just like she wanted them to be.  She took a deep breath and began the tale.

AN: There you go the beginning. This will be some long but important author notes. So the story from now on will be told in sections of stories for each of the children.  Each section will have multiple chaps. So I'm in for the long haul for this. Though I will only make it as long as it needs to be.  It will be told more from (which ever child whose story it is) perspective but the writing will be writtenin real time, present tense, not past tenseunless the character is having a memory. Now do not assume that all of Inu kids will get with all of Mirokukids, this is not the case! Trust me! There will new and exciting characters. And INU and KAG and SAN and MIR fans, they will be in this fic, quiet often, after all someone had to raise all these kids! And Sessy will be there too he is their uncle!  I suggest you go read “Out of Time” it is four chaps (the fourth not posted yet, but will be before the first real chapter of this fic is). You don't have to follow Children of the Well, but you will get a much better understanding of how the both tie in and get a peak at Inuyash's children personalities. I recommend it. I don't do continuations unless they strongly connect, but again you don't have to. I didn't tell you who the old woman reading was on purpose though if you read Out of Time you will know. Just put 4th chap up so you can know who the story teller is. As always thank for reading and hopefully reviewing.  I am working on finishing up “Out of Time”, then I really must focus on “Terms of Engagement” and “Love Everlasting”, before those fans kill me.  So depending on the interest I get for this fic will determine if I feel compelled to bump my running stories down a peg and write more of this. I like this though so many plot bunnies running around my head  Hope you enjoyed! Thanks for leaving your feedback!
