InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Chimera ❯ Prologue ( Prologue )
Chimera-an absurd creation of the imagination
Drowning. The word suddenly had meaning to the submerged five year old. Kagome looked up, even as her body sank deeper, and noticed with a shock that the sun seemed different under water. She knew the surface was just a few feet above her and if she could somehow break through, she would be fine. Unfortunately, her body refused to cooperate and she realized vaguely that perhaps her mother was right. Perhaps she should have waited for her daddy to try out the deep end of the pool. Strangely, it didn't hurt; she simply felt a weightless detachment from the small, drowning body. Abruptly, she felt warm and comforted. Was she dead already?
Mommy? Daddy? She thought.
A voice whispered gently in her mind. No, I'm not your parents. I'm a friend. Would you like me to save you?
Distantly, she wondered what she should be saved from. She was warm and comfortable wherever she was, but she nodded her agreement. With a sploosh, her tiny body was thrust up through the water and immerged sputtering. Mrs. Higurashi spun around and ran to her flailing daughter. Swiftly, she scooped Kagome out of the pool and held her as the little girl spit up water.
"Kagome? What on earth were you doing in the deep end of your aunt's pool? You could have drowned!"
Kagome didn't feel like explaining that she had drowned and was brought back. That wasn't something you told to your hysterical mother, no matter how old you are. Instead, she just wrapped her tiny hands around her mother's neck and coughed. Her aunt came over and wrapped her in a towel. Soon, they said a hasty goodbye and Kagome fell asleep as soon as she hit her own pillow.
