Inutaisho stood silently for a minute. Then he asked, "How were they able to bind you?"
Sayuri drank some tea that the healer Greta had handed her. "I was looking up at the sky and Sango used her boomerang to
knock me to my knees. Though I could have stood back up, I did not. It was then I learned that Kikyou had changed the plan.
They were not just going to kill Kagome. They. . Sango and Miroku were going to paticipate in the rape in order to break
Kagome's spirit. Then Kikyou would have Miroku use his sutras against her and draw Kagome's soul from her body into Kikyou's
and Kikyou's twistedness into Kagome. Then they would kill the body so her soul could not return to her." Here Sayuri drank
some more tea. She felt Kagome's despair and then did as she had before. She drew her sister's despair from her, replacing
it with a form of calm.
Sesshomaru asked, "How did they not know it was not Kagome?"
"I am a ninja. Our techniques require our spiritual and physical energy. This is called chakra. Mine is the strongest. I
also have other skills. Due to my chakra's strength, I can literally become another person. So it was here." Sayuri
shifted the cup of tea to her right hand and squeezed Kagome's hands. "I would never let you be harmed. My only regret was
that it had to happen at all. You are no ordinary miko or human for that matter. Kagome, ordinary people do not experience
extraordinary things. It is right that you are the Shikon Miko. I will die a thousand times for your sake if need be.
Did you look through my bag?"
"No. Why?"
"Your mother sent you a letter. When I went to them last, she wrote it and told me the first time I saw you to give it to
you. Unfortunately, that night there was no time."
Inutaisho asked,"How did you know what would happen?"
"The day I first came among them was for my sake. Two nights before that, Kami appeared to me in a dream. I did not
believe him. Once I had seen for myself the depth of the situation, I agreed to train and then take my soul twin's place
even though it meant I suffered again."
Sesshomaru asked, "How did you learn?"
"Another ability I have is that of reading minds. A glance in the eye, a shared emotion. Both estalish a connection,"
answered Sayuri. Covering her mouth, she yawned.
"Just one more question,"said Kagome. "Why would Sango and Miroku join in?" She was standing with her mate at Sayuri's
left.
"Part of your answer lies within a query. The day Naraku was killed. . . Did you pass out?" replied Sayuri. She already
knew this but wanted be sure that her soul twin fully understood what had happened.
Kagome thought back and then nodded. "I did. When I came to, the group acted strangely around me the next day." She saw
her sister look into her teacup. Though she could not now see the entirity of Sayuri's face, she saw enough to know her
soul's twin was thinking. "Sister?"
Sayuri motioned for Kagome to sit. Looking into her eyes, she said, "When you passed out, Naraku took on your appearance.
In that form, he took the shard from Kohaku. He said things that were worded as you might have worded them were you not
the pure-hearted soul you are. Then he released you. I interfered there. You were weak and you knew it. Do you remember?"
Kagome nodded.
Sayuri continued. "It was not Kikyou that died that day. It was a clone of mine that appeared as Kikyou. It did its' job
well. You were able to purify the jewel and kill the body. However, the entirity of the story is not over. Naraku was no
more than a puppet. Somehow he will return, sometime he will revive. Then it will be I that ends it."
The healer moved forward then and helped her charge lay back. Covering her, she shooed the lord's family away.
