"At least it is warm during the summer." said Kagome as she walked back towards the village still drying her hair. She walked humming a nameless tune, unaware of the small dark creature following close behind. About halfway to the village, Kagome had two things following her, She turned around as one of the unknown followers was sliced in half and died. "InuYasha, why did you kill that bird?" Kagome demanded. "It's not like it was doing anything."

Without saying anything, InuYasha picked up the larger half of the bird and put it near Kagome's face. "Eww, what would I do with it?" screamed Kagome as she put her hands up to protect her face and took a step back.

InuYasha looked at her but started laughing, not loudly but it was a laugh. He quickly composed himself though. "No, look at its stomach."

"Oh… okay." She took a step closer and looked at the decapitated bird's belly. A small burned spider was on its feathers, yet very hard to see. "Naraku!" whispered Kagome as she took a step back again.

InuYasha threw the bird behind him and looked at Kagome. "No, it's not from Naraku. Yes it is connected to him, but not directly from him. A large power has been growing close by that's not Naraku." he turned his head to look behind him as the open sky. "It's not Naraku, but it has some great power."

"I haven't sensed any jewel shards near by so how can a power be growing that big to have worried?"

InuYasha looked back at his worried mate. He could feel the power, but couldn't locate it. It seemed to be all around. He didn't know if he could protect her from it. The power had already grown to more than he could have handled on his own, though he wouldn't admit it. He yearned to take Kagome back to her time and have her stay there until the trouble passed. As he looked deeper into her eyes, the urge became stronger. He must protect her at all costs, but he wasn't sure if he could.

"Houshi-sama?" said Kagome as she kneeled next to the supposedly sleeping Miroku. "Houshi-sama?"

"Ah, beautiful Sango, for what do I owe your visit?"

"I… um… just came to see if you were well."

"Ow!" yelped Miroku suddenly as he brought his left (normal) hand up to his face to see a few red teeth marks. Sango looks down to her right to be looked back at from a happy looking Kiara. Sango reaches down and pets the little fire youkai.

"Good job." She said jokingly. Turning her attention back to Miroku she added, "Well, it looks like you're fine, can you use your legs as well as your hand?"

"Ay child, he should be able to walk now. Though the poison shall never be fully gone, it should not affect him anymore," said Kaede as she walked into her hut with her arms full of medicinal herbs. "If he moves more, he will heal sooner."

"Lady Kaede, have you seen my son?" A woman from the village asked timidly as she walked through the hut door.

"No child, for what do you ask?"

"No one has seen him all day and he hasn't returned. He has never done anything like this"

"Calm yourself child, he couldn't be far. All children know the dangers of the surrounding areas. Could he be with the other children in the farmlands?"

"No Lady Kaede, for I have looked twice. Yet I noticed not many children are there or in the village. I think my son may not be the only child missing."

"Ay, a much smaller than normal group of children followed me to pick herbs." Kaede looked back at a slowly walking Miroku with Sango behind him in case he fell. "Have either of ye seen where InuYasha went"

"He said he was looking for Kagome when he came here."

"Kagome went to the lake to bathe earlier.

"We need him here. He may be able to help us find the children."

"Kiara, go find InuYasha and bring him here," said Sango. Kiara took off out the door and towards the river.

"Now child," said Kaede, "go home and we shall work on finding your son. There is nothing more you can do."

"Thank you," said the woman as she bowed and walked out of the hut.

No more than 10 seconds later Kiara ran in followed by InuYasha and Kagome. They were at the bridge when Kiara found them and ran to the hut. "What's wrong?" asked Kagome as she stepped in the door. "Why did you send Kiara to get us?"

"We need InuYasha's nose. Many of the village's children have seemed to disappear."

"Ya, so what do you need my nose for… NO, OH NO, there is no way I'm going to be used like a common dog."

"Oh come on InuYasha, the villagers would be very thankful. Trust me, I know what it feels like when you lose your family," said Sango.

"Come on InuYasha," said Kagome while taking his hand in hers, "I know you would do it if it was one of our pups."

After a few seconds of looking at Kagome he answered, "Feh, trust only a bitch to pull that one on you. Fine, but only this once."

"InuYasha, do you think the children disappearing has anything to do whit that growing force?" asked Miroku as he finally made it to the rest of the group. He was getting better at walking a distance without out losing his balance.

"Maybe, but you won't know will you. It doesn't look like you can go very far."

"Yes, but you better go and figure this out."

"Ay, leave now. We don't know what is happening to those children."

"Don't tell me what do old hag."

"InuYasha… come on, lets go find those children," said Kagome as she walked out that door. InuYasha turned around to follow, when he was outside and Kagome was climbing on his back he heard Miroku say, "He's like a whipped puppy."

"Monk, you'll get yours when I get back," yelled InuYasha as he leapt off towards the scent of the kids he could pick up.
