The Fourth Betrayal: Miroku & Sango
Sango, Miroku and Shippo sat around the well arguing about what to do.
“I think we should go find Kagome,” said Miroku, “She's been gone a long time.”
“No, we should just wait for Kirara and Kagome to return,” said Sango.
“I could just kill InuYasha!” said Shippo angrily, clenching his little fists.
Suddenly the kitsune jumped up and started to walk towards the forest.
“You two can continue to argue all you want,” he said, “I'm going to look for Kagome and Kirara, and if I find InuYasha I'm going to give him a piece of my mind whether he clobbers me or not.”
Bemusedly they watched him leave. At the same time, someone else was approaching them from behind.
“Miroku!” the young woman called, “Miroku!”
Sango and Miroku turned and watched in amazement as a heavily pregnant young woman came their way. Sango began to look suspiciously at Miroku as she waddled up to him.
“There you are, my love,” she said, puffing from exertion, her hands supporting her back. “I came to find you. Our baby will be born soon.”
Mirokus jaw fell open in shock.
“What - ?” he said in confusion.
“Don't you remember?” she said. “You asked me if I would bear your child. Well, here I am and your child will be born any day.”
Miroku flushed and slowly turned to look at Sango. She had stood up, sputtering with anger, her fists clenched at her sides.
“Sango, I…” He started to say, but she cut him off.
“How could you? You lying, perverted, womanizing bastard!”
“But…”
Sango walked over and slapped him in the face.
“This is the last straw! It's over Miroku, I'm leaving!”
“Sango, wait!” He cried, but the demon slayer had burst into tears and went running into the forest.
“Who was that?” the pregnant woman asked.
“That was my fiancé,” said Miroku miserably, and groaned, putting his face in his hands.
Sango was not paying attention to where she was going. Her eyes were blurred with tears and she was whacked by branches and waded through bushes heedlessly. When Miroku had proposed to her, she had believed him when he said there was no other woman for him but her. He had promised her he had changed his ways.
`Lies, all lies!' she thought as fresh sobs ripped through her.
She was so absorbed in her misery that she tripped and fell heavily over a large tree root, and she lay there, beating the ground with her fists.
Someone else had seen her fall. She felt hands pick her up, and she wiped the tears out of her eyes to see who it was. InuYashas pain and guilt ridden face came into focus.
“What happened?” He said quietly.
Sango started bawling again and through herself into his arms. Confused, he awkwardly put his arms around her and patted her on the back.
