Chapter 5: Tents, Tears, and Kayaks

The bus pulled into the campsite 15 minutes early, at about 7:45 that evening. The camp area was extremely large, with trees surounding it like a wall. There were trails heading off in many different directions, some with signs labeled bathrooms, showers, etc. The four trouble makers in the back didn't wake when the bus stopped, and not even when everyone else filed out. Naraku and Sesshomaru grinned. Sango was laying on Miroku's chest and his arms were rapped around her. Kagome's head rested on InuYasha's shoulder, and his head rested on hers. Naraku searched backpack for baloons ans found a some water balloons at the bottom. Sesshomeru held his laughter as his best friend blew it up and held it over the heads of the four. He crushed it in his hand and a loud pop resounded, startling them awake. They left the bus quickly, not seen by any of them and Sesh whispered "three, two, one..."
"Lechur!!!! Get your hands off me!!!"
"Me?! You were the one laying on me!"

"Oi, Wench! I'm not your pillow!"
"Well I'm not yours either dogboy!"
The arguments went on for five minutes before the girls just shrieked in frustration and left the bus, Kagome "accidently" hitting InuYasha in the family jewels, while climing over him. The boys exited soon after, and left the bus to find the struggling girls being held hostage by their brothers. "Every. Waking. Moment." They said in unison.

They retrieved their stuff out of the bus after being instructed as to where to set up their tents. Within five minutes Kagome and Sango had their tent set up. They went to sit by the fire, but were stopped by Sesh and Naraku who pointed back towards their tent. InuYasha and Miroku weren't finished; in fact they hadn't really starte; Miroku was lost somewhere in the fabric of the tent, and InuYasha was tangled in the poles.
"Do ya want some help?" Kagome asked half heartedly.
"No." they mumbled.
"If you're sure..." Sango trailed off feebly.
"We are!" The boys yelled back.
"Ya know," Kagome started, "it might actually help if you were to read the instructions."
"Shut up wench." InuYasha growled. "We don't need instructions."
The girls sighed and rolled their eyes, mumbling "Whatever." After about ten minutes though the girls got tired of waiting. They walked over and yanked the poles away from the guys. The boys were momentarilly shocked at the boldness of the girls. They glowered, but didn't stop the two of them from finishing the tent. It again took them within five minutes. The guys stomped off towards the fire, their pride hurt.

Someone took out their guitar and started playing campfire songs. InuYasha noticed how Kagome's eyes sparkled as she sang along. She had always loved to sing, so she was always happiest when doing so. She had an amazing voice too. InuYasha couln't help but stare at her. She noticed his staring after a while.
'Why's he staring at me?' She wondered, blushing. InuYasha saw her blush and loved the way the color crept into her cheeks, especially in the campfire. 'I'm either gay for noticing these things, or I still care about her.' Inu thought. He muttered a "Feh."
Sesshomaru saw the play of emotions across his brothers face and wondered what he was thinking about. He glanced over at Miroku and Sango. Sango was laying on Miroku's shoulder, drifting off to sleep. It was starting to get pretty late. Miroku saw the slumbering Sango and wasn't sure what to do. He decided to carry her to her tent. He liked her much better when she was sleeping and couldn't yell at him. He nodded to Naraku and Sesh, whispered a good night to InuYasha and Kagome, and walked off with Sango cradled in his arms. He crawled carefully into the tent and eyed the green and pink sleeping bag, not sure which was Sango's. "The pink one." Sango mumbled, taking him by surprise. He layed her down in the sleeping bag and pulled off her shoes for her. She snuggled into it, mumbled a thanks, and was asleep before Miroku could blink. He smiled and left the tent, going into his own.

"Are you tired?" InuYasha asked Kagome.
"Not really. I slept a lot on the bus...uh, you?" He shrugged. "Um...well, do you wanna go for a walk or something?" He shrugged again. "What do you want to do?" He started to shrug, but could smell how annoyed she was getting at his shrugging.
"I guess we can go look around or something."
"Ok." She said getting up. "Is that ok Fluffy?" Sesshomaru's brow twitched as he nodded. InuYasha started off towards the bathrooms and showers to see the good or bad news concerning those.
The trail wasn't long, they were their in a couple minutes. Kagome was pleasantly surprised to find that the bathrooms had lights. She didn't want to be using the bathroom in the dark only to have something crawl up her leg. She wasn't happy to find that the bathroom had only a couple stalls and it was to be shared between the girls and guys. At least the showers she noticed were separated.
"What do you think?" InuYasha asked, startling her.
"They're ok, I guess. I'm just glad they're lighted."
"keh."
"What do you think?"
"Disappointed about the showers."
"Why?"
"They're not same sex like the bathrooms." He grinned.
"You're as bad as Miroku sometimes." She muttered.
They headed back towards camp and went to bed.

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.
Kagome woke up before everyone the next morning. She was going to go take a shower but decided to head down the trail that had no sign. She wanted to explore it. She walked for about an hour, admiring the beauty surrounding her. She started heading back after the hour, so that when everyone woke up they wouldn't worry too much, and besides, she was getting hungry. She started jogging back, so she'd get there quicker, figuring about maybe a half an hour if she kept her pace.
She didn't make it back in a half hour.
Or forty five minutes...
or an hour. She was growing franitc trying to figure how on earth she'd gotten herself so lost. 'I must've turned down a wrong path somewhere.' she thought. She wanted to cry as she continued down her trail. After another half hour she was so relieved that she did cry when she heard that cocky voice behind her. "Oi wench. What did you have to get yourself lost for?" She nearly knocked him down when she flew into his arms. "Oh my gosh, InuYasha. I am SO happy to see you."
He hugged her back for a minute, enjoying it while it lasted. She stepped away from him and blushed. He handed her a water bottle, and she drank greedily.
"So which way?" She asked once she'd gotten her fill. He led her back to camp. She'd been a lot closer than she had thought. Sango squealed in delight at finding her best friend whole. "I was so worried!" She yelled, hugging Kagome. "I couln't sit still!"
"She not kidding," Miroku mumbled, "Naraku made me follow her back and forth across camp."
"He's not kidding!" Naraku laughed, getting tears in his eyes, "It was so funny. I wish I had some popcorn."
"Me too!" Miroku glared, "so I could shove it your ass!"
"I'm glad we don't fight like that InuYasha," Sesshomaru said punching Inu on the arm. InuYasha made an attempt to tackle him, but ended up getting himself tackled.
"Yeah," said Inu, trying to get out of Sesh's choke hold, "cuz this is just so much more fun."
"It is for me." Sesshomaru laughed and let him go.

Kagome was still hungry so she dragged InuYasha over to her tent and dug through one of her bags until she found the banana nut muffins she was looking for. She handed one to InuYasha than walked over to one of the lawn chairs surrounding the fire pit. Sango and Miroku sat with them. Kagome and Sango talked about everything they wanted to do that day. The boys quietly watched the girls's animated conversation, occasionally making comments to one another.

When they finished eating Kagome spoke up to all of them. "So you guys want to go down to the lake?"
"Ok." Sango replied.
"Not okay." the boys countered.
"Why not?" Sango pouted, batting her eyelashes at Miroku.
"You get to see our new bikinis." Kagome grinned, knowing Miroku would cave. She wasn't disappointed.
"Than we are definitely go.."
"NOT going." InuYasha cut off Miroku. "We don't want to see you ugly wenches half naked."
"Speak for yourself Yash." Miroku said. "I'm going to change." He headed off towards their tent. InuYasha growled. Sango pranced off to her and Kagome's tent to change. Kagome looked a InuYasha, pouting.
"No." He said.
"Please."
"No."
"Please."
"No."
"Please."
"No," he started walking away. She ran after him and jumped onto his back. "PLEASE." She said forcefully.
"Wench, get OFF me."
"No."
He growled. "Please?" She breathed in his ear making it twitch, and him shudder with pleasure. She slowly started rubbing his ear, and he slowly started getting..."Fine." He ground out. "NOW can you get off?" She giggled, jumped off him, and ran to her tent. Sango was unchanged, waiting for her.

They emerged ten minutes later. The boys looked irritated, but their irritation deflated when they took in the girls's little string bikini's and tiny swim shorts. The girls put on flip flops and grabbed their towels and sunscreen.
"Eyes in your heads Lechurs." Sango said, raising her eye brow.
"What took so long?" InuYasha asked regaining his cocky composure.
"Hello?" Kagome pointed to her and Sango's braids. "This takes time. Think InuYasha. Your brain can't be all mush."
"Keep it up wench." he growled.

The lake was beautiful. Most of the class was already either in the water, or sprawled out on the shore, sunbathing. Sango and Kagome layed their towels on the big rock overlooking the lake than jumped off it into the water. When they came up for air, InuYasha and Miroku were taking off there shirts, recieving wolf whistles from their classmates. A couple guys from the football team rat tailed them, making everyone laugh when the four of them started wrestling for the towels. Kagome and Sango just stared, heads cocked to the side as they stared at them. Miroku grinned, "we've got secret admirers, Yash." He nodded towards Sango and Kagome who blushed. "Eyes in your heads Lechurs." InuYasha repeated their words from earlier, causing them to turn red and disappear under water.

"So what now Miro?" InuYasha asked.
"Mmmm...we can have a Kayak race I guess, since we have to do something with the girls."
"Ok. Oi, wench!"
"Really InuYasha, after all these years you'd think you'd remember my name. Let me help. KA-GO-ME."
"Feh. You wanna have a kayak race."
"Sango?" Kagome looked at her friend, who shrugged and said "ok".

Naraku sat at opposite end of the lake acting as the finishing point. He raised his hands in the air. "On your mark," he put his arms down half way, "get set," all the way down, "GO!"
The four of them took off, Kagome in the lead. She loved Kayak races. She was really fast too, taking InuYasha by surprise. One fourth of the way in Miroku and Sango stopped. They were having a water fight with their ores, splashing each other. InuYasha were head to head. InuYasha kept splashing Kagome so she knocked an ore out of his hand. She laughed and he growled as she sped ahead. Being a hanyou, he caught up within a minute. To pay her back he decided to tip her over. By the time she got out of the kayak and flipped it back over, he'd have a good start. He stuck his ore underneath her kayak and pushed. She flipped over, holding her breath just in time. InuYasha took off laughing but stopped when he didn't hear her come back for air.

-Under Water-
'Stupid dog boy.' Kagome thought. She pushed the sides of the kayak to free herself, only, she didn't come free. She tried several more time before the thought struck her that she was stuck. She started fighting frantically to get loose and keep a hold on her breath that she was slowly letting out. She thought she heard someone scream her name as she started blacking out. 'InuYasha?' was her last thought, as she saw a flash of white in the water.

-Back above-
"Kagome!" InuYasha screamed when she didn't come back up. Everyone turned to see the hanyou dive into the water. The kayak was filling with water, so he couldn't flip it. He managed to pull her out on his second try. He pulled her to shore. Sesshomaru layed out a towel for him to lay her on. She hadn't been out long. InuYasha pumped on her chest and breathed into her mouth as Sango came running over screaming, "oh kami! No, Kagome!"
Within seconds InuYasha had her coughing up water and breathing. "Kagome." He sighed with relief. "I am SO sorry. Kagome? Are you ok?" She nodded staring up at him with a blank look.
'She's mad.' InuYasha thought, knowing that look. To others it might appear blank, but he knew she was pissed. Sango helped her up and hugged her.
Sesshomaru gave Kagome a once over. "You're ok? Do you want to go home."
"I'm fine." she glared at InuYasha. "Lets go lay out Sango." Her and Sango went over to the large rock and laid on their towels.
Sesshomaru sighed, looking at InuYasha. "It was an accident. I didn't know she'd get stuck." InuYasha instantly defended himself. "She shouldn't have gotten stuck. Those things are usuallly easy to get out of!" Before Sesshomaru could say anything InuYasha went over to where the girls were sitting. Miroku was waiting for him. They played cards while they waited for the girls to finish laying out.

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~
InuYash woke with a start. Exactly what had woke him, he wasn't sure. He listened for a second....singing? He listened to the sweet melody a bit longer. It was quiet enough that a normal human couldn't hear in, but with his hanyou hearing he could hear it loud and clear. It took him a minute to realize it was coming from the lake.

"Watch the stars turn you to nothing
Now you blush and smile as they whisk you away,
part you lips a bit more,
i'll swallow your fear."

'It's Kagome,' he thought as he unraveled himself from his sleeping bag and left the tent. He followed the trail down to the lake.

"I will show you how all the bite marks impress a need to be here,
a need to see city lights, like rain, dance, and explode,
fall upon debutants reeling from nights,
That kiss and control all of our broken hearts"

He watched her sitting on the rock. She had her i pod plugged into her ears.

Velvet burns wrists while obstraining.
You blushed and smiled, And said you would stay.
One more time steal my breath,
I'll feed you the sky.

I will show you how.
Steal the glamour from death, And before you die,
Oh, you should see city lights,
like rain, Dance and explode.

Fall upon debutantes
Reeling from nights that
kiss and control,
All of our, broken hearts.

Our hearts,
Our hearts

"We all want to die like movie stars" you said,
as you jumped from the height of our cutting room floor.
While above us
glowing, exploding,
our dreams burst forth in light in death.
Hold me and tell me,
"We'll burn like stars.
We'll burn as we fall.
Watch as city lights
dance for us."

She stopped singing along to the song as the last notes played. She pulled her knees up to her chest and rested her chin on her knees. She shifted and hung her legs over the rock and admired the reflection of the moon on the lake. She heard footsteps coming up behind her and tensed up, but almost immediately relaxed when she heard that familiar cocky voice she loved so much.
"Oi, wench."
"What do you want?''
"You woke me up with all that racket you were making."
"Put on ear plugs."
"You're a real comedian."
"I don't remember making any jokes and I'm not laughing. Put on ear plugs."
"Your a real bitch sometimes. You know that?"
"You're the dog. Not me."
"Fuck you."
"Fuck me? Hmm...no I don't think so. I like full breeds."
In seconds she found herself hanging over the water, InuYasha's grip on her shoulders being the only thing keeping her dry. "If I were you, I'd watch your fucking mouth," He growled out. His face was a fraction of an inch from hers. His golden eyes blazed into her dark blue ones.
"What are you gonna do Yash?" She asked trying to keep her voice steady. "Huh? What if I don't keep my mouth shut?"
Despite how pissed off he was, the temptation to kiss her was nearly unbareable. He started closing the distance. As their mouths brushed there was a loud crack. They grabbed onto each other as the tip of the rock gave out. They gasped as they surfaced. "Oh my g..g..gosh! Its f..f..f..ffreeezing!"
"N..No shhhhit....sh...sher...sherlock." InuYasha said as they staggered out of the water.
"This iss..all..your fault." She accused.
"M..me?! If you wouldn't h..havvve.."
"There's no good in blaming each other." An irritable Sesshomaru stood at the shore. He'd been awake since InuYasha left his tent. He threw them towels than left quickly.
"Punk." InuYasha mumbled. "Oh, and thanks for that by the way!" He said to Kagome pointing to where Sesshomaru had disappeared.
"Would you rather have not come at all!?"
"You swear like we're having the time of our lives! We could've found another chaperone!"
"Oh really? Who InuYasha?" He stayed silent, than "Someone." He said quietly.
"Am I really that bad Yash?" She whispered. He looked up at her and closed the distance.
"You," he whispered, "are the biggest pain in the ass I have ever met." He cut her gasp of anger off with his mouth. He ran his tongue along her lower lip and she opened her mouth for him. He teased her tongue with his. She moaned softly as she tentively rubbed against his. She reached up and softly stroaked one of his ears. He let out a ragged groan against her mouth. Kagome barely noticed when he pushed her against a tree and continued to ravage her mouth. Kagome needed air first and pulled away. Her breathing was fast as she stared up at him. He was breathing hard too. He went to continue there kiss but she pulled away from him. "Kagome."
She let out a sob and took off for camp. "Kagome. No. Wait!" He knew he could've caught her, but she obviously needed to be alone. He knew he did too.
Kagome crawled into the tent and changed out of her wet clothes. 'Why would he do that,' she thought. 'Oh God I love him so much.' She choked on a sob as she crawled into her sleeping bag. She cried silently until sleep consumed her.
InuYasha trudged back to camp some time later. Sesshomaru was waithing for him. "You're in love with her." Sesh said, eyeing his little brother.
"Leave me alone Sesh."
"But you are."
"Not listening."
"Real mature."
"Feh." InuYasha changed and got into his sleeping bag. "I am." He sighed before drifting off, knowing Sesshomaru heard him.

Authors Note: Well I hope that was ok. I have a bad habit of trailing off and winging it with the story sometimes. I did that a lot with this chapter so I could make it longer. I am open to any suggestions if it was really dreadful. Well, it's late. I'm going to try and put up another chapter for you tomorrow. Thank you for your reviews. I really appreciate it. Good night everyone!
