Chapter 2: A Plague
Anubis_Himura

"This had better be good Sasaki!" Kagome locked her car and walked up to the officer.

"Take a look." He gestured to the crime scene with his left hand, tossing his cigarette out with his right.

"Holy . . . shit." Kagome looked at the scene.

Had there been one body, like the one she saw earlier in the day, she would have been fine. Had there been buckets of coagulating blood, and perhaps even some torn ligaments, she would have been fine. Nothing, on The Gods great earth could have prepared her for the site she now beheld.

Dozens of bodies lay scattered across the ground. Most of the corpses were clawed at; some with their faces chewed or scratched clean off. There was a pungent odor, indescribable to anyone who hadn't smelled it just now directly. It was July after all in the scorching Tokyo sun. Kagome held her breath as she began to cough slightly. Never in her five years as a Detective had she seen such a disgusting site.

"Many of the subjects are being identified by their dental records. We have no leads."

"You've gotten forensics in here then?" Kagome turned away from the crime scene and started walking back to her car.

"Yes Kagome. Naturally. Coroner says it was a mass attack, and that it appears that some of the subjects even began killing each other before they died. It doesn't seem to all be someone else's work." Sasaki summed up in a professional tone, obviously forced.

"Anything at all we can use?"

"None of it. No prints, no clues, the only foul play apparent is the . . . cannibalistic nature of the crime."

"Okay, I want to talk to everyone who lives in these apartments -"

"They did."

"Excuse me?"

"The subjects. All tenants in these apartments. Well, from whom we've identified so far."

"Perfect." Kagome began pacing around her car, avoiding eye contact with the scene. "Let's try the owner of the building -"

"He's in Boca."

"Boca?" Kagome exhaled deeply. "All right. Send me the photos forensics took, I'll take a look at them at home. It's too dark to do anything now anyway. Besides, this smell is making me noxious."

"It's making you noxious? I've been here for four hours." Sasaki walked off to talk to the crime scene photographer.

Kagome went back to her car and closed her eyes, trying to get rid of the images now forever engraved in her minds eye. She shook her head and opened her eyes forcefully.

"Hello Ms. Higarashi? Where too now? May I offer you some background noise?"

"No thank you VIRA. Go home."

"Yes Ms. Higarashi."

"S o, my lovely dinner is in the fridge, cold and disgusting. How was work?" Inuyasha said, never looking up from his laptop, as Kagome threw her keys on the bedside table.

She had immediately gone to bed when she got home. Not bothering to remove her coat, shoes, or check to see if Inuyasha was downstairs. She knew he was in bed, waiting for her, ready to reprimand her for leaving him alone. Again!

He had meant the comment to be joking, but Kagome could sense the deeper anger in his tone. She always chose work over her life (love or otherwise). She was a workaholic, completely devoted to her job and helping to rid the world of strife, murderers, rapes, thieves, and the other scum at the bottom of the social pool.

"I am sorry Inuyasha. I know I tend to be somewhat of a work freak. I deeply apologize." She was lying on her stomach, looking up at him out of the left eye. She supported her weight on her elbow and allowed her left hand to dance lazily on Inuyasha's taunt stomach. He never slept with a shirt on. Found them bothersome he did. She leaned closer to his lips, allowing her warm breath to hit his neck, chin, and up to her destination. "Forgive me?" She whispered, as her lips lightly touched his own. He started to close his eyes, wanting to kiss her more deeply.

Kagome caressed his tongue with her own, absently shutting his laptop and putting it on the table beside the bed. Inuyasha reached around his lover, caressing her back through her black leather jacket. Kagome sat up, taking her coat off, followed quickly by her white V-neck shirt. Inuyasha allowed his hands to roam over her soft flesh. He pulled her down to him, ravaging her with his mouth. Her warm, tantalizing, inviting mouth. He took his free hand and delved it into her long tresses. Massaging her scalp delicately. He loved the way her silky hair felt against his hand. It was her hair that had first attracted him to her.

Inuyasha had been sitting alone at a diner, sipping at his murky coffee, which tasted more like mud than his morning caffeine. The jingling of bells signaled another customer to the shop, and purely out of habit, his eyes followed the sound that his delicate ears picked up on. What he saw made him nearly dump his coffee all over himself. An image of sheer beauty and grace glided through the diner as the elderly waitress seated her one booth down from his. Her hair was a midnight black, the sun illuminating it, highlighting it to make it seem smoky and mysterious. Her eyes covered by designer sunglasses, with small diamonds on the rims. She was wearing a lilac scoop neck under a black leather jacket, and tight low rise Mudd jeans. Mixing genres, yes, but making it look so sexy.

She sat down at her designated booth and smiled warmly to the waitress, requesting a diet lemon iced tea and a bagel with plain cream cheese. Her voice sounded melodic, like she was singing rather than ordering a light breakfast. She held the rim of her sunglasses with her right hand, and pushed them up to rest atop her head. Her hair obeyed the movement of the glasses and moved back, strands falling to caress her cheeks. She had been carrying a manila folder and laid its contents out on the table now. She seemed deeply involved in her work, and Inuyasha took the opportunity to take in every one of her features.

Before he knew it she was paying her check, he quickly through twenty dollars on the table (knowing that a cup of coffee and a strawberry Danish was no where near that expensive, but caring not), and ran out after the girl. He didn't want to seem stalker like; he just wanted a reason to talk to her. He looked around the parking lot, but she was already gone. He vowed then, that he would find her and have her.

Inuyasha's thoughts clouded over as she began petting his ears, the action alone made him crazy, and she knew it. She was nipping at his neck, taking on the dominating role, which too drove him crazy. He knew it was sexist, but males were supposed to be the dominator, while the females accepted their fate as submissive. He moved his head and kissed along her jaw line, before flipping them over so he straddled her. He watched her chest fall and rise lightly and decided she was breathing much too calmly. He leaned down and kissed the section of her chest where her heart lie. He waited and listened for her breath to increase. As he kissed the valley between her bosoms his hands fiddled with the button on her slacks. He felt her hands scratching at his scalp, he rose his head and looked deep into her eyes.

Kagomes breath hitched in her lungs. As she stared at his eyes, so full of emotions, many she couldn't read. She knew then she was in love with him. Deeply and madly in love. An odd expression for such a pure emotions. 'Madly'. She continued to lose herself in his eyes, barely able to contain her love and lust for him. It was his eyes that had haunted her, since the first time she saw him.

She had gone to the local diner, just to grab a bite to eat before work. She was punctual then. She sat down at the diner, ordered her usual breakfast and began looking over a case. She pushed her sunglasses up so she could see properly in the dim diner. That is when she saw him. His dazzling onyx eyes blazing into hers. He wasn't staring at her, he was reading her soul. Kagome's breath caught, as it so often does with him. His daring platinum hair, shining with the rays of light from the window, his muscular body outlined in his tight work shirt. He seemed to be a carpenter, by the looks of his apparel. Kagome took all this in, in a matter of a second as she quickly looked down at her papers, so that the stranger didn't see her staring.

As she went through her meal she realized that the stranger never lifted his eyes from her. She began feeling nervous. She didn't know why. He had made no pass at her, and he was nothing if not gorgeous, and he didn't seem to be sleazy in the least. Kagome had a feeling that he wanted more than to have a quiet brunch with her however. She purposefully avoided eye contact and hurried through her bagel (not finishing it). She paid her check, cursing herself for only having large bills on her. She gathered her work and walked calmly, but quickly, out the door. The stranger followed. She got into her dark blue Audi and drove away before he even knew which car she got in.

Kagome felt childish, running away from him. She didn't even know him. He could have been the sweetest guy in the world for all she knew. She sighed and a smirk came to her face as she thought of how silly she must have been. She then thought laughingly to herself, "And so what if he did want to rape me? He was cute wasn't he?" She often went back to that diner, just for a chance of seeing him there again. She did. Every Sunday he was there, and so was she.

The lust had always been there. For both of them. It had been their first motivating attraction. Kagome was sure now, after seven short months of lusting over him, (Many of said months in which she played hard to get), she was in love with him. She didn't want to be the first to crack of course, she refused to tell a man she loved him. They had a nasty habit of using her and losing her. Kagome prayed Inuyasha was different.

Her musings stopped abruptly as a feeling of heat engulfed her lower body, her stomach twisted in knots and she moaned loudly. She had been fully aware all the while of Inuyasha's actions. His proving to be dominant by taking over the bedroom situation. He was teasing her womanhood, and she began loosing all coherent thought. Her manicured nails dug into his back, leaving read welts along it. She decided she needed more of him than he was giving. She flipped them over, straddling his waist, kissing him passionately, daringly. He sprawled his arms out on the bed, allowing her to take over. It went against everything he believed in, but he loved her and would do nothing to upset her. She quickly pulled off his CSC* sweatpants. She discarded them to the floor, they landed haphazardly next to her shoes. She adored that he wore practically nothing to bed, it made life so much easier. She quickly settled atop him and without a second thought plunged herself upon his wonderfully erect manhood.

Inuyasha's eyes squinted closed as pleasure surrounded him. Kagome opened her mouth in a silent moan of bliss. She pulled back and began a slow rhythm which Inuyasha responded too eagerly. He gripped her hips roughly and nearly picked her up and dropped her again, quickening the pace of her motions. Kagome braced her hands on either side of his head and tried to keep up with his demonic speed. She rolled over, pulling him with her, allowing him to take over. She tried desperately to catch her breath, the deeper she breathed the less oxygen she obtained.

Inuyasha attacked her neck, leaving tiny marks all along it. His climax was approaching and he didn't want to finish without delivering Kagome her much needed pleasure. He lifted her legs and placed them around his back, she barely had the strength to hold them there as he continued to plunge deeper inside her. She moaned out loud and lifted herself off the bed, holding herself to him, he pulled out and pushed back in once more, climaxing with an exasperated moan. Kagome breathed a wordless version of her lovers name as she collapsed to the bed. Inuyasha remained inside her, breathing heavily. He shakily rolled off his love, pulling the twisted comforter over himself and Kagome. Kagome smiled tiredly, pulling herself up against Inuyasha's chest. Her fingers slowly dancing along his chest.

As she caught her breath and she felt she could speak again, she whispered, "Does that mean you forgive me?"

Inuyasha smirked, though she couldn't see, and kissed the top of her head. "Yes Kagome, I forgive you."

She smiled and yawned, "Good." she mumbled. "Good night Yash."

"Night Kags."

Kagome fell asleep nearly instantly, Inuyasha's speed always had her knocked out quickly. Inuyasha remained awake, watching Kagome sleeping. He played gently with her hair, and caressed her arm with his right hand. He could watch her sleep for hours. That was how he knew he loved her. He would never say it though. Too many years of bad relationships (well, one long horrible relationship), had turned him against love. It was a fake state of emotions. A trick your heart played on your mind. The butterflies in the stomach, the pining, the infatuation. None of it was love. Love was dying for the one and only someone you called your own. Love was knowing that your souls were bound together for all of eternity. Love was everything you never wanted, and everything you could ever want. Love was . . . love. And when that didn't work out, love was an emotion made up by the Greeting Card industry to earn an extra 99 cents on Valentines day.

Even if he had all the signs that pointed toward love, and lust for that matter, he would never tell her. Not even if he were on his death bed. It was a secret to take to the grave. Nothing could change that.

Kagome woke up, alone. She felt around for the warmth of his body, but the bed had been long since left. She yawned loudly and very un-lady like as she stretched her arms to the ceiling. She remembered her state of undress and pulled the sheet around her. She eyed the master bath, the door was ajar so she walked to it. He was obviously downstairs, or had gone out. She pulled on her light blue bathrobe and walked downstairs, still yawning. She had a discomfort on her hips, from where his claws had dug into her the previous night. She didn't mind it though, she was used to his rough nature. She thrived for it actually. The smell of coffee assaulted the air and she knew that as she turned the corner, from the living room to the kitchen, that Inuyasha would be sitting there, cup in hand reading over "The Weekender" or peering through something on his lap top.

She walked into the kitchen to be greeted with an empty kitchen table and a pot of coffee sitting alone on the counter. Kagome's smile turned into a confused and disappointed frown. She sat down at the table and wondered where he went. It wasn't like him to turn on an appliance and then walk away. She pondered this mystery momentarily before she heard the sound of music coming from the garage. A sound that had been below her absolute threshold earlier. She walked toward the ‘Emo’ music and smiled as she saw her lover's legs sticking out from underneath his 1967 Shelby Mustang GT 500. Kagome had no idea what any of that meant, she just knew he loved that car. It appeared now, he was having more troubles with it however.

Kagome stood in the door way, watching his shadow on the floor of the garage. She heard him curse out loud a few times and tried not to giggle. She noticed he had a cup of coffee out on the work bench, but it was empty. She brought out the coffee pot and refilled his cup. He slid out from under the car and stood up, facing the opposite direction Kagome was in. He was wearing his work clothes. A white muscle-T with grease stains, and paint stains from who knows how many years of wear and tear; and his dark blue jeans, also with paint stains and years of manual labor. He wiped his hands on his bandana, which he kept in his back pocket in true workman style, as he turned around he let out an unidentifiable noise and jumped back a foot or so. He let out a sigh of relief and embarrassment as he realized it was Kagome.

"I thought you could use a refill." She smiled, holding the coffee pot up to emphasize her point.

"Thanks." he smiled half-heartedly and walked passed her to the coffee cup and took a sip. He hated the taste of coffee. It was bland, and left a cottony after taste. But he drank it. He loved to torture himself.

"What's wrong?" Kagome asked, placing the coffee pot on the workbench.

"Nothing." Inuyasha turned away and looked out the garage side door.

"Don't lie to me." Kagome said sharply. "Tell me what's bothering you."

"I'm not lying. Nothing's wrong." he placed the coffee back on the bench and got on the floor, "Thanks for the coffee." he slid back under the car.

Kagome kneeled down and pulled on his leg, dragging him back out from under the car. "Tell me." she demanded.

Inuyasha stood up angrily, stomping toward the radio. "I told you! Nothing is fucking wrong!" Inuyasha turned up the radio as loud as it would go and walked back into the house. Kagome stood there. Hurt and angry. He had never yelled at her before, and he had never lied to her before. Before she even formulated the courage to follow him he was back out in the garage. He had changed his clothing. He headed out of the garage and toward his Civic.

"Where are you going?" Kagome asked, following him to his car. She didn't care if she was scantily glad in the middle of the day.

"Out."

"Out where?" she felt tears in her eyes but she refused to let them fall.

"Just fucking out."

"What is wrong with you?" she asked, barely fighting the urge to beat him up or cry herself into a state of depression.

He didn't answer her, he slammed his car door, turned up the stereo and drove away. Kagome turned back into the house, turning off the garage radio, but neglecting the garage door. She went up to her room, intent on changing for work (she always went to work when she was upset). She picked out her clothes, managing to keep the tears at bay, and placed them on her bed. As she hoped into the shower she saw the rose that Inuyasha had given her two days before. She began crying instantly. She sat on the bathroom floor and cried.
