Conflicts, Conceit & Compassion
(A Sesshomaru Tale)
By: Alissa K. Hunt (a.k.a Tokia.)
Prologue Final Part:
Japan, warring ages - the village of Miroku and Sango:
Long after they had exited their father's tomb, the hanyou still fumed at his brother's action and his father's demand. "Daddy, daddy!" called Divali as she ran towards her father in full speed with a hand full of flowers. "Oh wow!" the little girl gasped as she changed her direction towards the new face. Mokari was not far behind Divali with Kirara on his shoulder. The boy, who without flaw resembled Miroku, had also started a path for Inuyasha until he caught wind of the stranger.
"HELLO!" shouted the two children reaching Sesshomaru together.
"You're tall!"
"Are you a demon?"
"You're handsome!"
"How many bad guys have you killed?"
"You smell nice!"
"Have they ever broken your armor?"
"You're kimono is nice too!"
"Do you sharpen your claws or are they naturally pointed?"
"Are you married?"
"Okay! I approve! So you're allowed to play with me!"
Sesshomaru did not have time to think as the children bombarded him with a river of questions all at once. Luckily, his instincts no longer told him to strike the little pests away since he had been around Rin for so long. *Hmmm . . . Rin.* At the thought of the girl Sesshomaru let out a low angry growl causing the smile on the faces of the two children to slowly disappear. Sesshomaru had not meant to respond to them in such a manner but he decided not to care since it got the job done.
"Divali! Mokari! Move away from there . . . that is Sesshomaru." no sooner had Inuyasha spoke his name, the faces of the little ones grew unbelievably pale. Divali slowly pulled back the arm that offered the flowers to her uncle. Mokari, with the same speed, untangled his hand from Sesshomaru's claws and took a cautious step back. Again, the boy took a step back, this time joined by Divali, and they ran as fast as they could to hide behind their fathers.
Sesshomaru gave a pleased half smile at the change of scenery. It's nice to see that the brats have some knowledge of me . . . now they'll act accordingly and keep their distance.
Japan, 2003:
"Now let's see. There's one, two three four five of you, and one of little ol' me. What's a girl to do?" she said as she drew the sword she was pretty lucky to have. I have to be quick and precise. No longer than the thought had passed, Anya made a swift, clean slash across the neck of the closest creature, which sent his head flying across the pathway. Because the things had been so preoccupied with laughing at her, their necks were easy targets since their heads were all thrown back. Shock now held the rest as they looked to the falling body of their comrade. Seizing the opportunity, Anya made a mad dash for the creature that was the second closest. In another swift movement, though not as clean, A.J. took off the head of the other creature leaving some of the chin and most of the neck attached. Deciding it was better to be safe than sorry, Anya swung the sword again to relive the beast of the stub on his shoulders.
"My oh my child . . . You have more spunk than I thought."
"Lady Kumara!" A.J. gasped as she turned to the voice. Wait . . . the bitch has red eyes and fangs too.
"You have killed two of my sons you slut."
"What exactly is the meaning of this?" *As if I don't know.*
"We've been here for centuries . . . this is the way we feed."
"And I suppose you give your prey a nice shiny sword to make things more interesting."
"Actually wench, the sword was a curse . . . we must give this particular sword to all of our prey before we hunt to allow them . . . a fighting chance . . . or else." said Kumara sarcastically, "nobody ever came who was brave enough to use it before."
"Oh . . . I see . . . well then, right now the situation is slightly different." Anya said as she held a firmer grip on the sword.
"Yes." Kumara replied. "Not only have you managed to swing the damn thing, but you took out two of my sons in the process . . . for that tramp . . . you WILL DIE!"
Anya focused on the four enemies before her and stood so that she would be both secured and able to move with speed at the same time. The element of surprise was no longer at her disposal, so Anya prepared herself for the worst and the unexpected.
Japan, warring ages - the village of Miroku and Sango:
"Can't I come and help father, I've been practicing what you and mother taut me . . . I know I can help."
"No Mokari . . . you must go back with Divali to auntie Kagome's time."
"But father . . ."
"No buts Mokari! I know you feel you are ready but you're not!" Miroku's voice was strong and unchanging. Mokari knew it was better not to fight this one and lowered his head in disappointment and defeat. Seeing his sons' disappointment, Miroku looked for a way to soften the pain, "Mokari, maybe you're not strong enough now, but someday you will be . . . but until then, we need you to stay in the future and protect everyone there alright."
With those words, the boy's face lit up a bit as he gave a respectful bow and said, "Hai father." Miroku gave his son a proud and affectionate hug, gathered their things then headed outside where the others were assembled.
The only problem Divali had was leaving her parents whom she loved so much. Although she loved her grandparents and uncle, she still had a hard time when it came to separation from her mum and dad. "You promise you'll come and visit and be back for me as soon as you're done beating the bad guys?" said the little girl from her mother's arms.
"Of course sweetheart." Kagome said as she hugged the child closer.
As if on cue, Inuyasha came and brushed the light strands of hair out of his daughter's face and softly said, "Come on, you know I can't be too far from my princess for too long." Divali smiled at those words as she jumped from her mother's arms and ran towards Mokari.
"Don't worry! They'll be back for us as soon as their done."
"I already knew that genius." The boy teased earning him a stuck out tongue from Divali.
"And how's my little man?" Sango asked smiling brightly.
"Worried . . . are you sure you'll be alright without me here to protect you mother?"
"Oh I'm sure I'll manage with your father, Kagome and Inyasha around."
"I guess . . ."
"You guess?!" Sango laughed as she nooggied the boy's head.
"MOM!"
"I'm sorry Mokari . . . I couldn't resist."
"Alright people, we've got to start moving." said Inuyasha.
People? . . . Well, at least we're moving thought Sesshomaru who was becoming nauseous from their open affection.
Now they were all heading back in the direction of Inuyasha's settlement.
Japan, 2003:
Dammit . . . too close! A.J thought as four claws tore at her sing-let barely missing her flesh. Since Kumara's statement the creatures had attacked her in full force, A.J.'s sword had been knocked from her reach and all she could do was dodge. At least . . . that's how it seemed.
"What's the matter child? Are my boys playing too rough with you?" Kumara laughed smugly.
Anya again gave her sly half smile to those words and continued her dodging. Little did Kumara know, but A.J. was actually studying the fighting style of the creatures as well as leading her mindless sons to allow her a direct path to her sword. "NOW!" she shouted when the path was made. Being an accomplished gymnast, while watching her foes, the ground and her sword, Anya leapt in a quick tripartite of back flips towards the object.
Anya knew that the demons were close on her heels, so, upon grasping the sword's tsuka, A.J. allowed the blade to be propelled by her body causing it to slash at the side of the beast's hip and in a flowing movement; it left him through his opposite shoulder blade in a trail of potent blood.
"AIIEEEE!" a justifiably bloodcurdling screech filled the air as the separated creature fell to the ground just before Anya pierced it in the throat.
Effortlessly bouncing back to a defensive position, A.J quickly swept the area for the remaining creatures, her eyes narrowing when she locked onto their positions. Realizing the creatures had backed away from her; Anya stood straight, tilted her head a bit and allowed the sword to dangle at her side so that the blood crept down the blade into a growing puddle which the kissaki grazed. Again Anya's lips graced the beasts with her now nerve wrecking, sly, half smile as she watched them now crouched in an M position with their backs hunched over and their head leaning far to the side helping a mushy, green drool to escape their mouths. *They can't be wondering what kind of human girl I am . . . I haven't even gotten started yet.* She thought to herself as she took a step closer while the creatures took a step back. So . . . they are wondering what manner of women I am . . . "HOW PATHETIC!" A.J shouted as she charged towards those that remained.
"WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR FOOLS?! GET HER!" Kumara shouted in anxiety.
The two beasts charged at the girl fully, bearing their fangs and swinging their arms in timely, crossed, circular movements. "IT'S THE SAME BLOODY PATTEREN!" Anya yelled as she slashed yet another beast in half.
"IEEEEE!" screeched the creature.
"SO STINKING TIMELY . . ." she continued while severing the next beast's arms.
"IEEEEEEEE!"
"SO DAMN PREDICTABLE!" Anya concluded as she stabbed the thing in the center of it's chest and drove her sword up so that it would be split from there straight up and through, the blade recoiling way over her head, causing her to be showered in it's blood.
"EEEE-urgh!"
Anya stood up while the beast fell before her looking like a beauty from hell as the blood from the things trickled down her forehead along the side of her nose and down her hands to the blade of her sword while the dry blood was scattered and splotched all over her skin and clothing. "It's really pathetic." she said coolly.
Kumara watched Anya through frightened and panic filled eyes as she advanced upon her. I cannot die. She said to herself. I must live to lay more eggs so my race survives. "I WON'T LET YOU LIVE!" shouted Kumara as her demon form tore through her skin. She just couldn't believe it; the human girl actually defeated her sons and was nearly upon her. Every part of Kumara wanted to turn away the truth, but the blood on Anya's once white head-cloth and sing-let said otherwise. Kumara's mind still refused to take it all in, but the blood on the girl's light gray sweat jacket and pants screamed otherwise. Still yet, Kumara's subconscious called to her sons for help, but the bleeding sword commanded a realization bitter to the taste and hard to swallow. "NOOOOO! YOU WON'T LIVE!"
Anya watched as Kumara dashed towards her with a slightly different pattern, well protecting the body parts she had seen Anya attack. "Foolish bitch . . . DOSE SHE THINK THOSE PARTS ARE ALL THAT MATTER!" No sooner had the last sound rolled off Anya's lips; she dove towards Kumara's legs and diminished them right above the knee.
Having lost her legs and too shock to scream, a falling Kumara looked towards the wretched girl that ended her race. *I shall not fall without you bitch.* Before the thought had passed, Kumara started an unclear chanting of words.
Anya quickly regained her balance after such a low attack, and began to where the beast woman was laying. A.J. noticed the movement of her mouth, but paid it no heed. Now upon her, Anya drove the sword deep within her chest, but, as she looked to Kumara's face, she noticed . . . a smile? "What's the bitch smiling for? I just killed her!" she said aloud, not knowing that Kumara had completed her chant just before she delivered the final blow.
Suddenly, the ground beneath Anya's feet became dark and bottomless. "WHAT THE . . ." she screamed as she began to get sucked into the darkness beneath her along with all of her possessions.
A.J soon found herself floating in darkness so overwhelming, she began to wonder how she could see her hand in the front of her face. "AHHH!" she screamed as she suddenly found herself being pulled deeper into the nothingness at such violent speed oxygen was not allowed time to create, and she soon passed out.
Japan, warring ages:
The party was halfway to Inuyasha's house and the two brats had not stopped looking at an annoyed Sesshomaru. In a quick unexpected motion, Sesshomaru brushed the hair out of his face causing the children to pitch in fear as the prince intended. Ironically, it was now Sesshomaru's turn to pitch as a human size object crashed into him sending them both to the ground. "What the hell?" growled the prince as he looked at the figure. Everyone had stopped in their tracks to see what caused the sudden commotion to find the prince on the ground underneath a body.
"What the hell?" Inuyasha started, "It's a body."
"But where did it come from?" Sango asked
Sitting up, Sesshomaru turned the limp body over, "It's a woman . . . she was attacked, and loss, she's covered in blood."
"That's funny . . ." added Inuyasha, "I can't smell her." No sooner had the hanyou spoke those words, a strong unnatural gust of something fell downwards landing on the girl causing the body to jerk in a short convulsion as she gasped desperately for air.
"Arguh! She's human . . . and she's covered in demon blood!" snapped Sesshomaru, causing him to throw the limp woman off of his lap as soon as he caught whiff of her scent. It was almost like the unnatural gust was her essence returning to her after being separated.
Anya gasped as she felt her body shudder violently. When her back came out of it's arch like form, A.J's eyes landed on what looked a lot like white hair. What? An old man? she thought, but then her eyes left the hair and focused on an impossibly familiar face. Oh my God! . . . Sess . . . Sesshomaru? She thought just before she once again blacked out. -!
