InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Control ❯ Prologue ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

I do not own Inuyasha...but I wish I did.

This chapter will have to remain short. This is a 'what-if' situation since I don't know what happened after the final battle with Naraku.

The wind caressed the raven tresses of one Higurashi Kagome as the birds chirped out a joyous song that was not in the girl's heart. He had actually done it. He actually went through with it. Kagome sighed and closed her eyes, fighting back unwanted tears. His love for her was nothing compared to the love he once knew with the Priestess Kikyo. Now they would be together forever in hell. Looking out over the village, Kagome thought briefly of Sota, her mom and Grandfather. Now stuck forever in the Feudal Age because of the departure of Inuyasha*, Kagome was weary of life and missed her family terribly. With Naraku defeated and his reign of terror ended, life had returned to a normal pace. Miroku and Sango had married and moved back to the demon slayer's village. Shippo was fast growing into an independent young lad. Though Kaede was still in perfect health, Kagome had started to devote herself to the learning of the Miko arts. Unbeknownst to her, Kagome was the last remaining of the truly empowered Mikos. So she was the last threat to the remaining demons that walked the earth. The Shikon No Tama itself was a draw but to defeat the Miko Kagome would be considered a greater draw in the years to come.

The innocence of childhood faded at last from Kagome when she had witnessed Inuyasha and Kikyo descending into the depths of hell. Now, what was left was a stirring compassion for the lost and a resolve to never again let an evil of that of Naraku come into the world again.

Most of the threats to the Tama were inconsequential lower demons that Kagome found easy to deal with. It was the vague threat of the Demon Lords that troubled the young Miko most. Not only Sesshoumaru. There was also the other Demon Lords, Sesshoumaru being the most powerful. There was the Eastern Lord, Fujimaro; Gonkura of the South and Hisato of the North. These four posed a great threat to Kagome personally since she held the power to destroy all of them.

So it was that on that particular day that while Kagome brooded in the God-tree, a lone figure could be made out approaching from the West. Kagome sensed some sort of demonic force coming her way, not recognizing the aura. The miko leaped out of the tree, running to the village as quickly as her feet could carry her. It was just in time that the warning bell was ringed and all the villagers fled into the hills and into a small cavern. Only some of the warriors, Kaede and Kagome were left to face this new threat. The wind blew a cloud of dust blew around the small band of village protectors.

The figure drew closer. It was a fox demon, whose clothes were quite dusty, indicating long, hard travel. "What business do you have here, demon?" Kagome called out to the messenger in a clear voice. The demon rose from his panting and pulled out a scroll of paper and handed it to the miko.

With that, the messenger took off back in the direction from which he came. Kagome sensed no spells in the scroll so she opened it. Inside it read, "To the miko of Inuyasha's forest, Your presence is required in the court of Lord Sesshoumaru of the Western Lands. Bring only yourself and appropriate clothing worthy of the Lord's presence. You are to leave immediately upon receiving this missive." Kagome stared at the scroll with shock. 'Does Sesshoumaru even know who I am? He'll surely kill me,' Kagome, growing a little anxious, thought even as she destroyed the scroll. Kaede, who could foresee this as Kagome's destiny, came up to the dazed Kagome, "Child, get ye ready for your journey. I will take care of the rest." Kagome nodded. The only things she needed were her bow and arrows, two days worth of supplies and her only good kimono. Kagome loaded her things onto a packhorse and walked off toward the West, little knowing her destiny lay there as well.

*-I am making the well's curse to be connected to both Kagome and Inuyasha. Both have to be alive to travel through the well. (Hopefully, that isn't playing with the storyline too much…^_^')
