InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Controversial Love ❯ Headrush ( Chapter 7 )
Previously, On Controversial Love: Kagome jumped up. She stared after her boyfriend, before rounding on the crowd still around her.
"How can you all be so heartless? You saw it all. You watched. Yet you did nothing. I am ashamed to be part of the human race."
They watched her as she ran after Inuyasha. Her words had rung like a bell, and were not likely to be forgotten soon.
Controversial Love
Chapter Seven
Headrush
Kagome found Inuyasha crouched in the courtyard of the mall, leaning over the fountain. He was furiously washing the blood off his hands. She walked silently up to him, and laid a gentle hand on his shoulder.
Inuyasha's body became limp. They stayed there, in silence for a moment.
"It won't come off, you know." Kagome lowered her head. "I can't get it off. I can still smell it. Do you know what blood smells like? It's very metallic. Bitter. Salty."
Kagome sank to the ground beside her lover.
"Shush, baby, it's okay. C'mere." She held out her hands, drawing Inuyasha into her arms. He buried his head in her neck. He was shaking.
"I would've, if you hadn't stopped me. I would've killed him. But the worst part is, I didn't feel sorry. I delighted in it, making him suffer. He hit you. He talked about Mum. I couldn't hold him back, Kagome, I couldn't hold him back!"
"Who, ma cher, who?" Kagome used an old nickname for him, hoping it would calm him down.
"The youkai. He wanted to get out. He wanted to kill. I could feel it, in my blood. Kagome, it scares me so much! What if he got out again? What if he hurt Sango? Miroku? You?"
"You wouldn't-"
"That's the thing! I wouldn't, but he might!"
Kagome stayed silent. Inuyasha trembled in her arms.
"I don't know how to stop it."
Kagome whispered reassurances in his ear, rocking him.
"It'll be okay, love, it'll be okay."
Kikyo sat in front of the news, wringing her hands. This wasn't right. This wasn't supposed to happen. He was supposed to be exposed as a youkai and then…then what? A voice asked.
'Who are you?'
'You. You knew what was going to happen.'
'No!'
'You did, but you ignored it, for petty revenge. You've just hurt him more than anyone could.'
'No! No, I haven't! He was supposed to dump her and come back to me!'
Kikyou got no answer. It didn't strike her as strange that she'd just had a conversation with herself in her head. Or that the mysterious voice that had appeared had just as suddenly disappeared.
'This wasn't supposed to be happening…'
Kagome got Inuyasha back to their hotel with very few incidents. Most likely because Kagome was glaring at anything who even glanced at Inuyasha, and she was exuding a very dark aura.
She led Inuyasha to his bed, not stopping to wonder where Miroku was, and made him lie down. She pulled a blanket up around his shoulders, and sat behind him, rubbing his back.
His breathing slowed, and his body relaxed. She placed her chin on his shoulder, looking down at the face of the one she loved. Kagome stretched out behind Inuyasha and cuddled up to him, his back to her stomach.
Exhaustion finally took over. It had been a long day, what with near-killings and weird full blooded youkai Inuyashas. Kagome's eyes slid closed, and she dreamed.
Miroku was hanging upside down off of Sango's bed, watching her as she bustled around, gathering clothes and such. She was humming, he noticed, and he grinned.
Sango spared a glance at him. "You're going to make your head explode if you don't sit up. You already look like a cherry." She returned to folding the clothes strewn around the bathroom.
"It's fun! It's not all the time you can view the world with the ceiling as the floor."
"Yes, well, if you die doing it, there's not much point, is there?"
"There's not much point anyway. But Sango, I didn't know you cared."
"Of course I care, you dolt." Sango stopped folding and put some of Kagome's shirts in the drawer. Miroku blinked.
"Really?"
"Duh. How could I not?" Sango turned red as she realized how that sounded. "I mean, " she said hastily, "We're in the same band, and have known each other for far too long for me to not care."
"Right."
Sango looked at Miroku. He had closed his eyes, and had a dangerously satisfied smirk on his face. On their own volition, Sango's' eyes strayed to Miroku's hips, which were quite visible, seeing as how his shirt had ridden up his stomach from him being upside down. She felt the blood rushing to her face and forced herself to calm down.
Miroku heard the thud of clothing hit the floor and frowned, eyes still closed. What on earth…? He felt the bed sink on his left side. Opening his eyes, he saw Sango shifting around until she was in the same position as he.
"Whoah. Major headrush. But you're right. Completely new perspective."
Miroku grinned. Sango grinned back. Both of them started laughing at the same time. They soon quieted, and lay there, content in each other's company, no need for words.
