InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Cops and Robbers ❯ Spark Fading ( Chapter 2 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Ownership: I don't even own this computer. Why would I own Inuyasha?
A/N: Hmm, this is the dumbass author, apologizing for the lack of author's note for my first post… for anyone who actually cares to read them. I'm also going to beg your forgiveness for the extreme shortness of the first chapter. I don't know what I was thinking, cutting it off like that. Maybe you should consider it a prologue, or something… Oh, screw that. To the few people who commented me… Thank you very much! I feel special… probably because this is my first fan fiction. I probably shouldn't let it get to my head. In response to one person's concern, yeah, Kouga and Kagome are sorta dating. It's far less serious than Kouga thinks however, and trust me, the wrong shall be righted soon enough. Don't hurt me! Well, I should probably get to writing the actual chapter now, before someone beats my head in with their keyboard…
Cops and Robbers
Chapter Two:
Spark Fading
Inuyasha banged his head on the dashboard. He'd seen trees grow faster than traffic was moving at the moment. He glanced over at Miroku, who was tapping his fingers on the steering wheel over and over again. Inuyasha sighed, and ran his fingers through his stark white hair.
Damnit, he thought impatiently. Can't this go any faster? I want to pound that mangy wolf's face in, already! He had no intention of upholding the oath he had made to Miroku. Like he was going to pass up a chance to bloody up Kouga? Yeah, he'd definitely be keeping his eyes on the goal, but he'd have time for arm breaking as well, wouldn't he?
He growled, and reached over Miroku's seat, and began pounding the horn on the steering wheel. Miroku blinked, and slapped his hand away. “Will you be patient, Inuyasha?!” He snapped, though knowing perfectly well that it was a hopeless cause.
“How the hell can I be patient, when I can't think of anything else but the look on Kouga's face when he finds out he's been ripped off?!” Inuyasha retorted, but sat back in his seat once more.
Miroku sighed, and stretched. “Well, you'll just have to wait for your moment of glory a little longer.” He raised his eyes up further ahead. “See? We're starting to move again.”
As they inched their way down the freeway, traffic eventually began to speed up. “Finally,” Inuyasha muttered under his breath.
“So…” Miroku piped in after a few minutes of silence in which Inuyasha busied himself by ripping a parking ticket up over and over again until they it was a mass f this strips. “I hear Kagome Higurashi and the wolf boy are going out…” He cast a sidelong glance at Inuyasha, expecting a reaction. Inuyasha, however, merely shrugged, and continued shredding the paper into even tinier pieces.
“So?”
Miroku shrugged as well. “I dunno. Thought it might interest you. Considering… Well…” Inuyasha scoffed, and rolled down the window, letting the strips of paper fly out the window and into someone's windshield. His action lead to a satisfactory amount of honking, and giving-of-the-bird. He snickered.
Miroku watched him for a while, trying to figure him out. No matter what Inuyasha said, he couldn't fool him. He'd heard him often enough murmuring the girl's name in his sleep. Miroku didn't get why Inuyasha was trying to hide his feelings. Did he have to be a wall of granite all the time? He sighed inwardly. Whatever. He just prayed Inuyasha didn't come face to face with Kagome Higurashi during their visit.

“Mom,” Kagome Higurashi moaned. “Cut it out! I am not wearing anything fancy! We're just going to hand out, maybe catch a movie or something. It's not that big of a deal.”
He mother sighed. “Well, at least wear something other than your uniform, Kagome. What about that nice blue sweater, and one of your plaid skirts? You've been wearing that thing all day; don't you want to look decent?” Her oldest child's uniform skirt did have a little stain on it. Kagome rolled her eyes.
“Fine.” She hurried upstairs to change. She nearly tripped over Buyo as she hurried down the hall to her room, but she caught herself on the wall. Buyo meowed grumpily. She ignored him, and stumbled into her room.
She crossed the room, and knelt at her dresser, pulling an orange and pink plaid skirt from within the mass of clothing. She tossed it onto her bed. She was going to be so late. As she yanked on a nice white button up suit shirt, printed with orange and pink hibiscuses, she heard vague conversation between her mother and Ginta in the doorway downstairs.
When she was all changed, she sped downstairs, while dragging a brush through her hair. She skidded to a halt in front of the doorway, breathing a little heavier than usual. “All ready,” she said cheerily to Ginta. “Bye mom.”
“Bye Kago—” her mother was cut off as the door slammed behind her daughter.

“Sorry for the wait Ginta,” Kagome said apologetically as she climbed into the backseat of the limo.
“Oh, it's no problem, Kagome,” He replied cheerily, as he started the limo. “It's always nice coming to your house. Your mom always offers me lemon cookies.” As they drove down the street and away from the shrine, Kagome looked out the window. It was getting rather cloudy out. And they weren't nice fluffy white clouds either. It looked as though it would start pouring any second.
It did. As soon as they reached the gate to the grounds of Kouga's mansion. Kagome sighed. It figured, really. She was wearing a white shirt, with flowers on it. Her bra would show right through. Thankfully, Ginta passed her an umbrella through the window before he opened the door for her. She took it gratefully, and stepped out of the car, opening the umbrella quickly.
She walked up to the huge double doors that lead into Kouga's mansion. Her friends still couldn't get over the fact that she was going out with Kouga, the rich son of the late millionaire, Keisuke Kiba, the founder of the line of clothing, Budo Kiba. Not only was Kouga rich, but he was also very handsome, and did the occasional modeling. He did have a bit of a fighting problem, though. And he was extremely defensive of Kagome. Really defensive. He nearly broke a guy's arm once at a club, when the unfortunate man offered to buy her a drink. But, he was a real sweetheart to her. Kagome had a feeling she didn't like him as much as Kouga liked her, and Kagome felt sort of guilty about that. Nevertheless, she continued to date him, for reasons unknown.
She opened the door to the entrance hall, and stepped inside, a maid immediately coming forward to take her umbrella away. She turned towards the grand staircase, and came face to face with Kouga. She blinked, as he immediately took her by the hands.
“Hey babe,” he said, smiling. “Glad you could make it.”
She blushed, and smiled. “Oh, hello Kouga. Thanks for inviting me.” Kouga grinned, and wrapped his arm around her shoulder, walking her across the entrance hall into a side door that lead into the Recreation Room.
“No problem, Kagome. You know you're always welcome here.”
She smiled half-heartedly. “Oh, thank you Kouga. That's sweet.” She would never feel completely comfortable in his home. She was always treated like royalty here, and she didn't really like that. As he walked her into the hall, and to the Rec. Room, she counted about twenty-seven servants curtsied, or bowed. Her eyebrow twitched slightly, as it always did when she was uncomfortable.
“So,” he said, closing the door behind them, and walking her over to the unoccupied couch. He had managed to get all of the servants out for today, much to their disappointment. “You're coming to the party tomorrow, aren't you babe?”
She blinked. She had actually forgotten. “Oh,” she said uncertainly. “Of course, Kouga.” She smiled reassuringly, as she sat down. It was funny to call the parties he hosted, `parties.' A `Ball,' would sound more appropriate.
He grinned. “Oh, good,” he said, taking a seat beside her. “It would have been really dull, if you hadn't shown up, Kagome.”
She had to suppress a giggle. He had a different band every time he hosted a party. The large, ornate fountain in the middle of the ballroom was decorated with candles, that made the water shimmer. The chandelier shone brightly all the time, and movie stars were always on the list. Dull? As if. But, it was sweet of him to say that about her, and she shifted uncomfortably on the couch. “I'll definitely be there, Kouga.”
He stretched, yawning, and put an arm around her. He didn't feel her tense ever so slightly. “Are your friends coming too? Yuka, and the other ones?”
She chuckled, and nodded. “I don't think they'd ever miss a party they were invited to, especially one like this Kouga. Yeah, they'll be here, and drooling all the while.”
“Oh, good,” he grinned. “It's always funny watching them gasp, and scramble for pens every time they see someone they recognize.” It was true. Once they saw someone they'd seen off of a toothpaste commercial, and Yuka had nearly fainted. It was quite sad, really. Kouga sighed. “Everyone's going to be so worked up over the new addition to my father's art collection, I'll need a good laugh.”
“New addition, huh Kouga?” She smiled. “That's really cool. I can't wait to see it.”
He grinned down at her. “I could show you it now, if you like.”
She blinked, and her mouth dropped open. “Whoa… Really, Kouga?” He nodded, and stood, bringing her to her feet as well.
“Sure, why not? Let's go.”

Ten minutes later, they were upstairs, in the library. Kouga was busying himself with the safe in the corner, while Kagome was gazing longingly at the hundreds of titles Kouga had upon the shelves. Not that he read any of them. They were his father's. Kouga had told her over and over again that she could take any of the books she wanted, but she couldn't do that. Kouga showered her with far more gifts than she felt comfortable with already; she didn't want to take his father's books.
She heard the safe swing open, and turned her head towards Kouga. He stood, and turned towards her. In his arms was the most intricate statue she had ever seen. It was about a foot tall, and made of jade. It showed a woman and man, sitting on a stone and coddling a child. She actually gasped. “Kouga…” she stuttered. “That's… That's amazing! It's so beautiful!” She leaned over to get a better look, as Kouga grinned, pleased that she liked it. “Where on earth did you get it?”
He shrugged. “An old friend of my father's donated it, free of charge. It's called, `Loving Parents,' or something. And, no one else but you and me have seen it yet, Kagome. ” He smiled as she shot her head up to look at him awestruck. He took the opportunity to set the statuette down on the table besides him, and lean in to kiss her.
Her eyes widened, and she blushed. She abruptly bent downward, and left his hanging in midair, his lips puckered. He blinked, and looked down. She was fiddling with her shoelace. She grinned sheepishly up at him. “Eh, sorry, my shoelace was untied. Don't want to trip going down the stairs, right?” She nearly sighed with relief when Kouga, blinked, and nodded.
“Oh…. Yeah…”

“Man,” Kagome muttered as she trudged down the sidewalk. She had managed to convince Kouga that she didn't feel well, and she needed to go home. She also managed to convince Ginta, to let her out when she was halfway to her house, telling him she needed to clear her head.
She sighed. It had finally ceased raining, and now the cement was wet, giving off a lovely smell she enjoyed so much. She was about a block away from Higurashi shrine, but she was in no hurry. They didn't expect her home for another hour, and she needed some time to herself. She just, didn't feel the spark that had started the relationship between her and Kouga anymore. She hated to admit it, but she really wanted to break up with him. But… she didn't want to hurt his feelings. He cared about her so much, and she didn't want to crush him.
She ran her fingers through her thick black hair, wondering if she should get a latte. She glanced to the side as a black van rounded the corner. She made eye contact for a split second with the man in the passenger's seat before the van rounded the next bend. She froze. For a moment, it had looked like… no. It couldn't be. Just because the man had white hair, didn't mean it was him. She still didn't move. It was impossible. It couldn't have been him! That was absurd!
She shook herself, and walked on, though her legs shook slightly. She decided to skip the latte. Maybe she was having too much caffeine lately. But still, now that it was in her mind, she had trouble getting it out.
Inuyasha…

A/N: And there's you second chapter… Still not as long as I would have hoped, but I'm hopeful that the chapters will gradually get longer. Thanks to the two people who commented me so far! *sniffle* I love you guys!
