Chapter X: Never Outfox a Kitsune

BEEEP! BEEEP! BEEEP!

Kit's hand slammed down on the snooze button silencing the infernal racket for the third time. "Alright, already" he mumbled "I'm getting up" and promptly started to go back to sleep. However, a feeling of something being not quite right managed to filter into his brain. He opened his eyes and moaning sat up. The first thing he noticed was that he was fully clothed.

`Odd' he thought, `I don't remember wearing this outfit yesterday, in fact I don't remember this outfit at all'

Then he glanced at the clock, "Shit, I'm late!"

Leaving the mystery of his attire aside, Kit jumped up and rushed out of the cabin. As he walked quickly down the trail to the lodge, he noticed that everyone was staring at him. Quite a couple of girls giggled and blushed.

`What? Do I have bed hair or something?' he wondered running his hand through his hair.

Spirit Singer, Shippo and Kaemon sat at a corner table in the patio dining area of the main lodge. Though the conference was over the resort was still closed to the mundane public so the dining crowd consisted of conference delegates who had decided to stay a few extra days, various elves and other Underhill folk on vacation and the resort staff. Singer was clearly upset with Kit's unexplained tardiness and decided to proceed without him. Breakfast had just arrived and they proceeded to discuss their plans as they ate.

"As I discussed yesterday," Singer said "given the press of time I have made arrangements for us to fly back to Japan. The flight leaves tomorrow at 10:15 from Denver and is a direct flight to Tokyo. I arranged a connecting flight that will take Kaemon on to his home. I hope that is satisfactory with everyone?"

The others nodded.

"Good. Now if my tardy protégé will get here, we can discuss the details of what we need to do solve the riddle of this well." Singer said and returned to eating his eggs.

He had only gotten in two bites when Kit came out of the Lodge building and walked quickly up to the table.

"I'm sorry I'm late, Wise Elder," he said as he pulled up a chair and sat down. "My alarm clock didn't…" His voice trailed off as he noticed Singer, the stranger he didn't know and indeed everyone else on the patio staring at him open mouthed.

"Is something wrong, Elder? I know the clothes are wrinkled, I slept in them but I don't look that bad." He said and added uncertainly, "Do I?"

"Clothes?" Spirit Singer said at last, "Kit if this is a joke it isn't very funny. I think you better explain yourself."

Kit looked at the others with pure confusion on his face. Then he noticed Shippo dangling something from his hand. It was his charm! But if Shippo had that what was he wearing?

A terrible suspicion developed in the back of Kit's mind as he stood and looked at himself in the reflecting glass of the window next to the table. The image appeared perfectly normal. He reached up and grabbing the charm around his neck yanked it off. The image in the window shimmered and changed. The mysterious clothing disappeared as the illusion spell was broken and he now saw what everyone else was seeing. He was totally naked and to add insult to injury, every inch of hair including the fur on his ears, tail, and even his pubic hair was colored bright pink!

His face colored to match his hair he slowly turned back to the others. "Excuse me Wise Elder" he said and leaping over the patio railing disappeared from sight. A second later a bright pink colored coyote appeared below and streaked away in the direction of his cabin.

The only sound heard on the patio was Shippo laughing so hard that he and his chair fell over backwards. Spirit Singer placed his head in his hands and shook it slowly. "Kitsunes and Coyotes, Great Spirit why me?" he said.

Author's Notes: This seemed the perfect place to end this story. There is more to come with Kit and Shippo in the future. I felt that needed to be addressed in the next story which moves our heroes to Japan. This story started out to give background to Kit and define the relationship between him and Shippo hinted at in the first Coyote Tricks story. As it has evolved though the relationship has turned out to be more complex than I anticipated and looking to get only more so. What relationships aren't? So I wound up coming to the end of Shippo's Colorado trip with as many questions as when I started. Up until now, even though he was on business, Shippo has sort of been on vacation. Now we have to face the music. What is the secret of the Bone Eater's Well? Will the relationship develop further or just stay a vacation `fling'? How will his family and friends (remember the son mentioned in the flash back) react to Kit? What color are Kagome's panties? And what happened to Inuyasha?!

These and other questions I'll try to address in the next story. What? You think I know were this is going? I told Kit just a simple little PWP yaoi but NO he has go and do that submission thing.
