InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Cure for a Wounded Soul ❯ Elemental Bells and a Guide of Spirit ( Chapter 4 )
Chapter 3
Elemental Bells and A Guide of Spirit
On the other side of the Wall, Kagome shivered, but not of cold. The moment she had crossed the magick and stone barrier a rush of hot and cool fire had assaulted her, pouring into her veins. When the feeling subsided, she looked at her hands. Both glowed a rich golden, which to, dissipated before her eyes. If she had a mirror she would have seen an interesting inscription glowing on her forehead, the sign of a miko. The insignia for a miko was different with everyone, Kagome's looked a bit like an and sign (&), but much more intricately woven.
As the feeling faded, Kagome took a deep breath of the biting winter air. The feeling that the rush of magick had given her was one of adrenaline and ecstasy. She flexed her hands, then rifled through her pack for her heavy clothing. The snow was already about her ankles and she needed to get moving.
Once she was dressed and warm, she removed the skis from her pack and strapped them to her feet. Taking a pole in each hand, she pushed her right leg and left arms forward, propelling herself forward. Left leg, right arm, and she was moving smoothly through the snow and on to her rescue mission.
.
Moving at a good pace through the snow warmed her quickly and Kagome's cheeks were soon flushed. She considered removing her heavy jacket, but decided against it. She would be stopping soon anyway, as the sky took on the dark hues of twilight, and she would want it once she had stopped. Coming upon a hill, she made her way up, then halted at the top.
She was looking out over a little valley, silent except for the almost inaudible swish of snow fall. Her cerulean blue eyes swept over the white. It seemed very peaceful. Moving down into the valley, she discovered herself in a small wood. Figuring this was as good a place as any to set up camp; she bent and removed her skis.
After packing away her skis and poles she set about clearing snow for a fire pit. Traversing through the trees for wood was not difficult, and she was able to pull down enough dead wood from the trees for the night. Returning to her camp, she made a fire and bundled up a bit tighter to fend off the cold.
Once she was warm, she removed a small square of white paper from her bag. It had been perfectly cut, and she now folded it into a small box, just as her father had taught her to. Pulling out her dagger, she cut the pointer finger of her left hand, and spread an x of her blood on the bottom of the box. After stilling the flow from her finger, she picked up the box, breathed upon it, whispering words of magick and placed in into the fire she had made.
Immediately the box caught fire and burned, releasing a cloud of black smoke into the air. The cloud wavered, turned red and formed into the vague shape of a person. The colors changed and swayed, making a blurry picture of a woman in the smoke. The woman looked almost exactly like Kagome, but a bit older, and had brown eyes instead of blue. She was dressed like a Miko of the ancient times, red pants and a white, long sleeved shirt. Her jet black hair was drawn back, her face was expressionless. "Kagome" She said.
Kagome had always assumed that her Spirit Guide was one of her Miko ancestors, since her father had said that Kagome and her mother shared eye color. "Hello Ancestor." Kagome didn't expect an answer. Aside from the one word greeting, she could only answer questions. However, she came in very handy, especially when Kagome had started menstruating. There was very little sex education at the Collage, but she had been able to come to her Guide and find out everything she needed to know.
"I would like to ask you about, well, everything, but I don't have time right now. I need to know how to get to the Abhorsen's house from the Cloven Crest." He map had told her when she was now.
The Guide looked at Kagome and began to speak directions, and Kagome was transported mentally along the path she would be taking. She passed over the snowy field she was in now, then up a flight of rough stone steps to a door in the rock, were she was to place her hand and speak words of magick. Through a stone tunnel and out another door, and there was the white walled House, nestled on its rock in the middle of the waterfall. The image faded, and the fire lit night returned to her eyes. The Spirit Guide stood quietly in the smoke, awaiting further questions. "Thank you Ancestor." Kagome traced her finger in a circle in the air, and then split it down the middle. The Guide slowly faded and the smoke drifted into the sky.
As Kagome watched the smoke drift into the cloud filled sky, something twitched her senses. Sitting up, she narrowed her eyes and concentrated. A dark presence made itself known, and she pin pointed it to be about 50 yards north of her current position. As she concentrated, it grew stronger, then faded, as though it was pulsing.
She didn't know how this presence had evaded her senses, but it was something she felt needed to be investigated. It could have some kind of connection to her missing father, after all. Standing, she searched though the bag for the Bells, and her hand struck something odd, it felt like the hilt of a sword. Grasping it firmly, she pulled a sword in sheath from her bag that she defiantly did not put in there.
Turing the blade in her hand, she exhaled slowly to calm her nerves. If she was right, this was her father's sword, the Blade of the Abhorsen. Removing the sheath, she studied the naked blade before her. Page Magick symbols sparkled upon the metal, and she could read the inscription they carved. I was made for the Abhorsen to slay the demon. The Clayer saw me, the Wallmaker made me, the King quenched me, Abhorsen wields me.
It was the Abhorsen's sword. She sheathed it again and laid it across her lap with reverence. He hand went to her bag again, and this time she found what she sought. From the bag she drew the bell bandolier, and stood with it in one hand and the sword in the other. Tucking the sword into her belt, she placed the bandolier over her chest, were it settled comfortably. The leather smelled faintly of beeswax and was soft to the touch. Page symbols on the mahogany handles fluttered as she placed a finger upon each of the bells in turn.
"Ranna." She said aloud. Ranna was the bell that controlled the Element Light. A friendly bell, its light voice was kind to the wielder. But Ranna could hold fast and be strong when she must.
"Mosrael." The second bell was unpredictable as the Element it controlled, Water. Sometimes it was gentle and complying to the wielder, other times it would cause turmoil and troubles.
"Kilbeth." Shadow. A bell of several sounds, it was difficult to control. Many a wielder had slipped with Kilbeth and cast shadow over things they would not.
"Dyrim." A musical bell, of clear and pretty tone. Its Element, Fire allowed the wielder control of any flame, and it could be enlarged or shrank at the slightest sound from the bell.
"Belgaer," Another trick some bell, that sought to ring of its own accord. Its Element was Wind, and it could either cool a hot day with a breeze or start a hurricane.
"Saraneth." The deepest bell. The sound of strength. Saraneth was the Element Earth, and allowed the wielder control of both plants and soil, a handy way of protecting oneself. Saraneth was a bell many an Abhorsen had trusted.
And last, the largest bell, one that Kagome's fingers chilled when she touched it. She whispered its name, as though speaking it to loud would endanger her.
"Astarael. The Poison." Astarael was the final bell, the banisher. When rung properly it cast a cloud of choking poison, killing everyone around it.
Kagome's hand hovered, touched Saraneth, and moved to Ranna. Opening the pouch she drew the bell, which rang sweetly before she could still the clapper, sending forth a beam of pure light. Quickly stilling it, Kagome made sure the sword was easy in it scabbard before making her way through the snow to whatever awaited her.

I'm so very sorry this has taken me so long. My computer got infected with Spyware, then I got sick. But, you have a chapter, and I'm hoping to have another by the end of next week. Cross your fingers for Friday.
I had such a blast choosing elements for the bells. I opted to leave there original names because there so cool. That's going to happen throughout the story, some things will follow the story to a T, some things will be completely different. It would be boring if I followed the story the whole time!
Thanks so much to the people who review for me. Here are some responses.
