Chapter 1

Five Years later

Kagome was sitting outside of her house. Inuyasha and some villagers made it beautifully. It wasn't too fancy but it wasn't plain either. It was built five years ago after the Shikon no Tama became whole.

Sango and Miroku's house was next to them. They weren't too close. They were far enough away so Inuyasha wouldn't be able to hear them if they yelled. No one wanted to be that close.

Kagome watched as Inuyasha, Inuki, Shippo, Kohaku, and Miroku all ran around. They had been playing for about an hour. Inuki and Shippo managed to sneak up on Inuyasha and tackled him to the ground.

Inuki was now five years old. Life was going good. She had a loving family. Even if Inuyasha was stubborn, possessive, had a bad temper, and over protective she still loved him. Of course she loved her kids Inuki and Shippo.

She also had her friends. Sango and Miroku had been married for about four and a half years. They had one three-year-old daughter. Kagome would always joke around telling Miroku that the fates were playing a trick on him.

Sango walked over to sit next to Kagome with Reiha by her side. Kagome always thought Reiha felt a little left out. She was the only girl besides Kagome and her mom, and they were adults.

"Shall we start dinner?" Sango asked. Kagome nodded. "Reiha why don't you go play with the guys?" Sango said.

"Hai." The little girl said. She was so cute. She had straight black hair like Sango's. She also had Sango's bone structure and Miroku's eyes. She walked over to the guys and joined in on the running around.

They both started dinner. They stirred the soup and poured them into some bowls when they were ready. They were going to call out that dinner was ready but Inuyasha, Inuki, and Shippo were already sitting down waiting for their bowls.

Miroku, Kohaku, and Reiha came in panting. "What's with you guys?" Sango asked.

"All we heard was `I smell dinner' and they were gone." Miroku said. Sango and Kagome both laughed. Of course the youkai would smell the food and get there first.

They all ate dinner and went back outside to play some more. They were playing tag. Kagome had taught them how to play. Kagome watched as her mate and kids ran around.

Inuki was five years old now. He had little white ears on his head. His hair was silver with black streaks. He had little claws, they were nowhere near as long as Inuyasha's but they could still do some damage. He had amber eyes. He looked a lot like Inuyasha even though he was only a quarter youkai.

Shippo had grown up a little. He was about Inuki's height. His childish features were starting to grow into more mature ones. Other than that he was still the same.

After playing tag for a little while Inuyasha, Inuki, and Shippo all stopped. They all put their noses in the air at the same time and sniffed. Kagome got up. "What's wrong?" She asked.

"Kouga." All three of them said together.

"Is that all? You scared me there for a minute." She said. Kouga stayed Kagome's friend and visited at least twice a month. It still made Inuyasha mad. Kouga would still try to get Kagome. Another thing that made him mad was that his own son liked him. He was supposed to take after him and hate him.

Inuki was like a mini Inuyasha. Although he had some of Kagome's features he thought of Kouga like an uncle. Inuyasha growled and stood by Kagome waiting for him to show up.

"Yo." Kouga said. He walked to Kagome and pushed Inuyasha away and gave her a hug. "Ready to leave inukurro yet?" He asked.

Kagome laughed and hugged him back. "Not yet." She said.

"What do you mean `not yet'?" Inuyasha growled. He stood next to Kagome.

"Kouga." Inuki shouted and hugged Kouga's leg.

"How have you been Inuki?" He asked as he patted him on the head.

"Good." He said. "How long will you be visiting this time?"

"I don't know. Inuyasha doesn't seem to like me very much. I don't think he likes me around." He said.

"Damn right…" Inuyasha started.

"Sit." Kagome said and down Inuyasha went. "I told you to watch your language. Inuki picks up enough from you he doesn't need to swear." She said.

"Feh." Inuyasha started getting up but was knocked back down when his sons tackled him. He grunted. Kagome had told them whenever she said the word they were to jump on his back unless it was an accident.

"Kagome." Inuyasha said. He got up and chased her around. "I'm not letting you get away with teaching them to do that."

Sango and Miroku just shook their heads. "So what brings you here Kouga?" Miroku asked.

"Nothing really." He said. Everyone stopped and looked at him accusingly. He usually only came when he needed something. "Fine but I'd rather talk about it inside."

They all walked into Inuyasha and Kagome's house. Kagome sat next to Inuyasha. He had his arms folded in his sleeves, Inuki and Shippo sat next to him and mimicked his pose. Inuki had the same fire rat robes Inuyasha did.

Sango and Miroku sat beside each other. Reiha was sitting in Miroku's lap. Kohaku had Kirara in his lap sitting next to Sango. Kouga sat near the door. They all waited for him to speak.

"We've heard rumors from several youkai who want the Shikon no Tama. I don't know any more than that. I just thought I'd warn you." Kouga said.

"That's just great." Kagome said. "You don't have any clue as to who would know anything about it?"

"No. I've only heard that many youkai seek the miko with the jewel." He said.

"I think we all know who might know some information." Miroku said. Everyone looked at him. "Sesshomaru is the only one we know of who has information on youkai. He travels a lot too."

"I don't want to fucking ask Sesshomaru for help." Inuyasha yelled.

"Sit." Kagome said. "What can we do? It is just a rumor right? What if it's not true?"

"Would you really want to put Inuki in that kind of danger? I'm pretty sure in his life he hasn't seen anything of your travels? Have you even told him anything?" Kouga said.

"Kohaku can you take Inuki, Shippo, and Reiha for a walk or something? Don't say a word about anything. Either of you." Kagome said. She watched as Kohaku and Shippo nodded and they went outside.

When they were far away enough Inuyasha nodded for her to continue. "We didn't tell him anything. The Shikon no Tama has ruined enough lives. I don't want to involve Inuki in this in anyway." Kagome said.

"She's right. We decided a long time ago to keep the jewel a secret from them. I don't want any of my family or friends hurt." Inuyasha said.

"What choice do you have? You can't just ignore the rumors. Swallow your pride and go see Sesshomaru." Kouga yelled. "I must go now. My pack needs me." He left the house.

"What do we do?" Kagome asked. She didn't want anyone else to get hurt. The Shikon no Tama had already taken enough lives. She held the jewel in her hands.

"We go see Sesshomaru." Inuyasha said. "You can put a barrier around everyone while I battle it out with him."

"We can leave tomorrow. What do we do about the kids? I don't want to bring them with us but I don't want to leave them here." Miroku said.

"We have no choice but to bring them. Shippo will want to go. He's always gone with us. I'm sure Inuki will want to go if Inuyasha does. I think Reiha is too young to be without her parents and I'm sure Kohaku will want to come." Kagome said.

"We'll just have to always be on alert. Kagome can create shields so we should be fine." Inuyasha said.

"When the kids get back we'll tell them about it." Sango said.

"Hai, but we must explain the seriousness of this journey. Inuyasha you must explain who Sesshomaru is. I'm pretty sure you left him out of everything." Miroku said.

"I'll tell him." He said.

About an hour later the kids came back. The parents explained to them they were going on a trip and how dangerous it was and that they had to listen when they were told something. They all nodded. Kohaku and Shippo already knew what to do.

They all went to their houses and went to sleep. Kagome was really worried. Inuki had the habit of running around and exploring. She knew Inuyasha would be able to find him but it still worried her.

Shippo had said he'd help protect Inuki and Reiha. He was growing up so fast. He was getting better with his Kitsune-bi and illusion spells.

"Don't worry. Go to sleep." Inuyasha said. "If anything happens then you can put up a shield. I don't think anyone could break it."

"I just can't help but worry. I thought we'd finally been able to live normal peaceful lives but it just seems to get worse." Kagome said.

Inuyasha laid down with her on the futon. He kissed her gently. "Don't worry. Everything will be ok. I finally have a family. I'll kill anyone who tries to change that."

"Arigato Inuyasha. Oyasumi." Kagome said. And she fell asleep. Inuyasha kept alert just in case. That habit would never change.

"Oyasumi." Inuyasha said. And fell asleep.

Read and Review. How was that chapter? It took me a while to think of how to write it. I may not be able to update everyday like I usually do. This fic is challenging for me. I have an idea where to go with it but I'm not sure what the Inuyasha gang should do during that time. I hope you like it. Ja ne. (Thanks for the correction on the youkai thing)
