Chapter Four - Rules
Sesshoumaru led&nbs p;Rin down a short hall to his study.&nb sp; The door was ajar. Even though  ;it was June, he had a
fire going& nbsp;as moon shadow was cold inside even on&n bsp;the warmest of days, let alone a cool eve ning like that
night. Candlelight provided&nb sp;the only other illumination in the room.&n bsp;
Sesshoumaru didn’t look back at the young woman as he strode over to the high-backed chair by the fire
and languidly sat down. He stretched out with his inuies grace. He didn’t offer Rin a seat,&nb sp;but instead
watched the young woman o ut of hooded eyes.
Rin stood awkwa rdly in the doorway. Her brown eyes flic kered over the room’s interior as if trying to glean
something about it s owner from the contents.
What d id she make of the many worn, leather-bound&n bsp;books that lined the walls? Did she rightly guess that
Sesshoumaru found m ore comfort in books than in people? &nb sp;And what did she think of the sleek l aptop that
glowed softly on the desk&nbs p;that sat alongside stacks of journals filled&nbs p;with his precise penmanship? Rin
cou ldn’t know that Sesshoumaru still ha nd wrote out everything, because when he  ;was growing up there
were no such  ;things as computers. They had not even been a gleam in someone’s eyes.  ;
And what did Rin think of the Japanese Inu’s pelt that ad orned the floor by his feet, its glass&n bsp;eyes gleaming
and bared teeth growling&n bsp;at the snapping fire ? Rinâ€& trade;s gaze dropped to it and a slight ripple of disgust crossed
that lovely face. Clearly,&nb sp;his guest did not like hunting. How ironic that Rin didn’t know this&nbs p;pelt had nothing
to do with celebrating  ;the destruction of this brilliant beast, but  ;as a reminder of Sesshoumaru’s own past
arrogance and the pain he had caused. It was also a reminder of what he truly was inside.
A&nbs p;beast. That is what I am. And I h ave brought this beautiful young woman here,& nbsp;putting both of us in
danger.
&nbs p;
Sesshoumaru pushed away that thought. &n bsp;It sounded too much like what Jacken  ;would say. Except his Sikh
servant&nb sp;would go on to claim that Sesshoumaru  ;had brought Rin here because of her b eauty and maybe
even because of the&nb sp;danger it posed. Jacken would claim that he was starved for company, but mor e
importantly, for love, for the love&n bsp;that would supposedly free him of his cur se. But Sesshoumaru thought
that ridic ulous. Love was an illusion. A cr uel one at that built on hormones that&n bsp;soon faded. True love was
necessar y to break the curse that he was un der.
But true love does not&nb sp;exist.
And he had not broug ht Rin here to disprove that simple stat ement of fact. Rin’s presence here was to
punish the Yamato family,&n bsp;nothing more than that. Rin was lov ely to look at, but there were many  ;lovely
things in his home like paintin gs and vases. Rin though had a mouth&nb sp;and opinions that made her less
beau tiful than those objects.
Sesshoumaru refused to acknowledge Jacken's p hantom voice floating through his mind and&nb sp;asking him why
this particular punishment involved having Rin live with him for&n bsp;a year. Couldn’t he have r equired the young
woman simply to work& nbsp;at his home during the day and leav e at night? Wouldn’t that  ;have been safer for all
involved? &nbs p;Especially when the full moon came and  ;his curse became active?
â&euro ;œWell, what did you want to talk about? What are these rules?†Rin  ;truculently asked, thrusting her chin out and interrupting Sesshoumaru’s though ts.
“Shut the door.&acir c;€ Sesshoumaru said.
He di d not want Jacken to watch them or overhear what he was to say. He co uld see the Sikh in the
hallway, m ysteriously dusting a perfectly clean vase with&nb sp;assiduous attention. If Sesshoumaru had pointe d
out the fact that Jacken had a pe rfect view into the study from his dusting&nb sp;position, this fact would have
been scoffed at by the Sikh, but it would&nbs p;have been quite true nonetheless. Sesshoumaru&nb sp;snorted softly.
Jacken had&n bsp;already made clear to him his extreme&nbs p;distaste for this ‘internshipâ&eu ro;™. Sesshoumaru indulged the
Sikh,& nbsp;allowing Jacken to give him his views&nb sp;on various matters as Jacken was as c lose to family as anyone
could be to Sesshoumaru and very wise about many matters, but Sesshoumaru would not be gainsai d in
this. He saw Jacken shake hi s head and heard him sigh as the do or shut with an audible click as the&nbs p;lock
caught. Rin continued to stand& nbsp;by the door though, not coming near  ;him. Sesshoumaru felt his chest
tight en.
What do I expect? &nb sp;She dislikes me intensely and what I am&nb sp;about to do will not endear me to&nbs p;her more.
But it must be done.
Yet still the slight hurt remained. It aggravated Sesshoumaru all the more and hardened his heart for what
his&nbs p;next betrayal.
“May I&n bsp;see your phone?†Sesshoumaru exte nded one hand towards the young woman.
< b>
Rin frowned. Her lush lips pulled& nbsp;down at the corners as she stared a t Sesshoumaru’s well-manicured hand.
“What for?â€
“Please.â€
Sesshoumaru saw how his simple use of the word â€&tilde ;please’ moved the young woman.  ; That was unexpected.
He thought that& nbsp;Rin would be used to people being p olite because of her wealth and status and&nb sp;inured to the
power of it. Perhaps t hat was the case, or maybe Rin hadn&acir c;€™t expected such niceties from Sessh oumaru since
his language had been anything&n bsp;but polite since he and Rin had met.
“I still want to&n bsp;know why.†The young woman fished out the phone from her tight jeanâ ;€™s back pocket and
handed it&nb sp;over.
Sesshoumaru put the phone  ;into his top desk drawer, turning the b rass key and locking it away. He t hen
placed the key in his pants po cket, well out of Rin’s reach.
< b>
“What the hell?â€&n bsp;Rin shouted. “What are you doing? Give me my phone back!â€
“What is in there?&a circ;€ Sesshoumaru gestured towards the duffe l, ignoring the young woman’s s quawks.
“Give me back&nb sp;my god damned phone!â€
“No. What is in your  ;bag?â€
They had a stare&n bsp;down. Rin was the first to look away . She shook her head, a kind of wild shock written large
in her face that Sesshoumaru had taken her phone and ref used to return it.
â€&oelig ;You’re crazy, you know? I&nbs p;want my phone back or I’m&nbs p;leaving!†Rin shouted, her free hand fisting at her
side while she shi fted her duffel so that it was half-hidd en behind one of her long muscular legs,  ;as if that
would keep the contents&nbs p;from Sesshoumaru.
Foolish girl.
“Fine. Leave.⠀
Sesshoumaru picked up the glass of scotch he had abandoned when the&nbs p;young woman had arrived. He took
a la rge swallow, relishing the burn as it ra n down his throat. It made it easier&nbs p;to ignore the fleeting tightness
in h is chest at the thought of Rin actually walking away from him right then and the re. He had gotten the
young woman here, which was more than he had truly&n bsp;expected. He didn’t want to  ;lose now.
Lose? Lose what?&n bsp; Lose her? She means nothing.   ;I could call and have a dozen more beau tiful than her
lifting their asses&nbs p;in the air. What does she mean c ompared to them? Nothing at all.
“I don’t see y ou leaving,†Sesshoumaru said with a w ave of his hand.
There was a beat of silence, but then Rin asked, her  ;voice strained, “What about my  ;family?â€
“What < i>about them?†He took another lar ge swallow of peaty scotch while he stared&nb sp;into the fire instead of at
the lovel y young woman with the worried face oppo site him.
“If I leave&nb sp;will you still give them the chance t o get back their business?â€
< br>“No.†That word fell like a stone into a still pond between them.
Rin let&n bsp;out a soft, bitter laugh and ran a hand&n bsp;through her long brown hair. â&eur o;œYou’re – this  ;is – why are you
doing this? Do you want to keep me captive here? What do you want f rom me?â€
There was a hint of fear in Rin’s voice tha t caused Sesshoumaru to freeze. â&euro ;œYou are not a prisoner. But there
are& nbsp;rules. My privacy is sacrosanct to&nbs p;me. I do not wish it violated.â ;€ He flicked his hand towards the desk.
“Such gadgets allow such violations easily with little thought by&nbs p;the doer. You will be allowed to use&n bsp;the
phone -- in my presence --&nb sp;once a week to call your father.â€
Rin’s mouth opened an d shut like a goldfish’s.   ;“Once a week just to call d ad?â€
“Donâ&eu ro;™t you want to keep in touch wi th your loving family?†Sesshoumaru&n bsp;smirked. “Or at least make sure
that they are making your ti me worth the effort?â€
&aci rc;€œMy father will do his best fo r you. He likes making money. &n bsp;He’ll make you a ton,â€&nb sp;Rin said. “I’m&nbs p;not
worried about that.â€
Money is not everything. I wonder if he&n bsp;will realize that before the end of the year.
“So what&nb sp;are you worried about?†Sesshoumaru  ;asked.
Rin ran a hand through he r hair. It stuck up rather adorably.&nb sp; “I have friends who I have to talk to.â€
â& euro;œYou have to?â€
b>“I want to.†Rin&nbs p;corrected, grinding her teeth as she glared at Sesshoumaru’s pedantic correctio n. “Actually,
no, I have&nb sp;to talk to them. They’l l worry about me if I don’t&nbs p;check in.â€
“We& nbsp;will arrange a time for you to contact&n bsp;them as well – in my p resence.†Sesshoumaru told himself th at
he could have cared less about Rin disparaging her to her undoubtedly equall y rich and useless friends and
that&nbs p;this restriction was based purely on making sure the young woman did not see a nything he shouldn’t
and repor t on it. But still he felt that&nb sp;phantom pain at the thought of Rin†™s sweet pink mouth spitting out
epithets with his name attached. He add ed, “Need I remind you that&nbs p;you are here to work not to eng age in
conversations with your friends?&acir c;€
“Am I wor king 24/7?†Rin challenged. â&e uro;œAre you going to give me time  ;to pee and eat? Or will I have to& nbsp;catch
both on the run? What about& nbsp;sleeping? Will I be allowed to sle ep?â€
Sesshoumaru scowled at&nbs p;the young woman. “You will be given appropriate rest periods and nu trition.â€
“How ki nd of you! I am so grateful for your&nbs p;thoughtfulness!†Rin scoffed and tossed&n bsp;her beautiful head
showing her ears  ;with diamond studied roses in them.
  ;
“You will not be allowed&nb sp;to be lazy and self-indulgent though,â&eu ro; Sesshoumaru’s voice rose slightl y, aggravated
at the young womanâ€&trad e;s dismissive tone.
Rin let out& nbsp;a laugh. “I’m gu essing that you don’t have many friends if you think talking to them&nb sp;is ‘lazy and
self-indulgent&acir c;€™.â€
Sesshoumaru w ent silent for a moment at that well-aim ed jab. He had no friends. How co uld he? Time
travelled on, but he& nbsp;did not. He looked the same as&nbs p;he had when the curse first fell upon& nbsp;him. Ageless so
that its torment& nbsp;could be visited upon him for eternity.& nbsp; All he had to do was look int o the mirror at his
unchanged face  ;with the horrible scars and he would be remembered of all he had done. < br> He finished his drink while Rin stood&nbs p;surprising discomfited at her ‘win ’ against Sesshoumaru. It was a lmost
as if she felt badly for Ses shoumaru, but then the young woman hardened&n bsp;her expression as her eyes darted
to  ;the locked drawer that contained her phone.< br>
“Now, the bag. &nbs p;What is in it?†Sesshoumaru asked.&n bsp;
Rin’s brown eyes&nb sp;narrowed. She would not be as trusti ng as she was with the phone. â&eu ro;œMy clothes. Why?â€
&ac irc;€œNo computer? No camera?â€& nbsp;Sesshoumaru asked. There was the slight est flicker of concern in Rin’s  ;eyes
when he said ‘camera&acir c;€™ so Sesshoumaru knew the young woma n had one. That needed to be recti fied. “Give
me your camera.&ac irc;€
“You’ re not taking my stuff. Itâ€&trad e;s my stuff.†Rinâ€&tra de;s eyes snapped with indignation and the&nb sp;slightest bit of
alarm. Did the came ra mean so much?
Sesshoumaru stood&n bsp;back up and walked over to the young woman, crowding her against the door. & nbsp;He was
familiar with using his lar ger size to intimidate others. Rinâ&eu ro;™s back thumped against the door eve n as she
tried to look unimpressed.&nbs p; The young woman was half a head short er than he was. But she made up&nb sp;for it
in spunk. Her breathing  ;though had quickened and her nostrils were&n bsp;flaring like a horse’s did when& nbsp;it was
afraid. But Rin kept her&nb sp;gaze steadily on Sesshoumaru’s fa ce and a tight hold on her bag.
Brave girl.
Sesshoumaru leane d down so that his eyes were mere i nches from Rin’s. He could&nbs p;see the flecks of darker
brown in them as well as hints of gold. He caug ht the young woman’s scent: cle an, woodsy and sweet like
the forest&nb sp;filled with flowers after a rain. He stopp ed himself from leaning down lower to nu zzle the soft flesh
beneath Rin†™s ear. But he found himself unwi lling to draw all the way back.
“You have a camera in your bag. Give it to me,â&eur o; Sesshoumaru whispered.
â€&oel ig;No.†Rin said just as softly.
“I will not have&n bsp;you taking pictures of me and mine â ;€“â€
“It&aci rc;€™s for my art!†Rin cri ed. She shoved Sesshoumaru back with su rprising power and sidestepped around
the&nb sp;older man. She kept a few feet distance between them.
Sesshoumaru slowly& nbsp;circled the young woman. The beast  ;inside of him delighted in the nervous twitc hes of
Rin’s shoulders. She sensed that Sesshoumaru was more than&nbs p;he seemed but Rin didn’t know -- couldn’t
even imagine --&nb sp;what Sesshoumaru was really. He kne w he should stop this, pull back and cal m down, but
Rin’s pushing  ;him away had set something off in him.
“Your art?†Sesshoumaru taunted. “You are an artist? Really?â€
< br>Was Rin some kind of dilettante rich g irl artist? Her daddy’s friend s buying her prints and promptly tossing  ;
them into a dark corner once the sale was complete? But there was the&nb sp;faint memory of Sesshoumaru’s
mot her painting in the long Japanese afternoons& nbsp;that intruded on his cruel thoughts. He& nbsp;remembered how
her eyes came alive  ;when she was in the middle of a painting, eager but anxious, to show the fini shed
product to him and his father.  ; But then Sesshoumaru remembered just as&nbs p;clearly watching the light fade out
of her& nbsp;eyes when his father disparaged her hard work with a few dismissive words. But Rin was nothing like
Sesshoumaruâ€&tra de;s mother. She wasn’t a true artist. She was undoubtedly just trying to&nb sp;avoid the responsibility
of earning a living.
“I’m&nbs p;a photographer.†Rin said, but there  ;was a slight uncertainty in her eyes that&nb sp;wasn’t there when she had
ta lked of other things. It was almost as i f it was something that was close to&nbs p;her heart and she wasn’t sure if
she deserved that title.
“Again, you are here to work not engage in foolish pastimes.â€& nbsp;Sesshoumaru said.
Rin let out&nbs p;a sharp laugh. “God! Now you sound like my father!â€
Ses shoumaru stiffened. “He doesnâ ;€™t approve of you taking pictures?â& euro;
“He doesnâ€&t rade;t approve of anything except making mone y! I was going there tonight to &a circ;€“ look, it doesn’t
matter. But …†a wild light entered Rin’s eyes.  ;“I can’t give it  ;up! You can’t ask me to. It would be like
cutting off my l imbs to give up my camera. I don&a circ;€™t expect you to understand why,& nbsp;but you have to believe
me.â&euro ;
Sesshoumaru stared down into tha t lovely face and did believe. But  ;there was a problem. He could not risk
Rin photographing him when he was change d, when the curse transformed him into a beast.
“It is impossible .†Sesshoumaru murmured.
Rin&nb sp;reached for him. It was so unexpecte d that Sesshoumaru froze as that hand re sted for a second on his
shoulder before fluttering away.
“I woul dn’t violate your privacy! I&n bsp;would ask before I took a picture of anyt hing! I could -- could document
t he transformation of moon shadow!â€
“Tra nsformation?â€
“Yo u’re planning on redoing the ho use, right? Jacken told me he thought&n bsp;I would be working in the garden. I< br> could take before, during and after pict ures,†Rin suggested. Her face w as taut with emotion, more emotion
than even the taking of the phone had brough t.
“I …&ac irc;€
She could have&nb sp;the camera during the day, but not at  ;night and not at all around the full&nb sp;moon. It could be
done. I&nbs p;would then have a history of moon shadow, too. If she is any good ...
“Please.†Rin begged.
Those luminous brown  ;eyes gazed up at him, pupils wide and&n bsp;dark like the gold sea and Sesshoumaru fo und
himself relenting and withdrawing himself physically from the young woman. He&nb sp;retreated back to his chair
and pour ed himself more scotch with a surprisingly tr embling hand. He downed half the glass a nd
immediately wished he hadn’ t. Alcohol did not harden his heart. It& nbsp;only made him soft and lonely. He& nbsp;set the
glass down unfinished. He would not look at Rin as he spoke.
“I will allow you t o have the camera at certain times â&eu ro;“ after your work is done &ac irc;€“ but I must see every pictur e
you take. You do not have  ;permission to take pictures of anything you like. You must check with me first,â&eu ro;
Sesshoumaru said.
Rin†™s shoulders relaxed. “Right. No problem. I -- I go crazy when I can’t work.â€
Another flash of memory of his mother as she sat unseeing  ;in the mental institution after his cursed&n bsp;nature
made itself known to her whe n he had lost control and killed her&nbs p;friend along with pain of his fatherâ&euro ;™s
death. Her easel and paints ha d sat in the corner untouched for the&nb sp;rest of her life.
His actions had kil led her spirit.
“You&nbs p;need to give me your camera now though . I will take good care of it. If you work well, you may be
allowed t o take some pictures tomorrow,†Sessho umaru said. He quickly shut his lips as& nbsp;he was suddenly
sure he would offe r more to the young woman than he s hould.
Rin put her duffel down&nb sp;on the ground. She kneeled beside it and unzipped it. The scent of her and&n bsp;clean
clothes rose up from the open& nbsp;bag and filled Sesshoumaru’s st udy. He knew Rin’s scent would be in his nose
all night. An  ;unsurprising wave of heat went through him. He gripped the arms of his chair and hel d himself
still. He would not lean down and lick a stripe down the back&nb sp;of Rin’s exposed neck as her  ;hair parted and
showed it. He wo uld not nuzzle in Rin’s fine&nb sp;brown hair. He would not push the you ng woman onto his back
and ravage her. He would sit and do nothing else.
Rin gently, almost reverently, pul led out a camera in a black leather case . Sesshoumaru knew nothing of
cameras, but he was sure it was expensive, but he was suddenly sure that the worth& nbsp;of it to Rin had nothing
to do  ;with its price tag. Rin reluctantly he ld it out to Sesshoumaru. For one moment, Sesshoumaru
imagined how they must l ook at that moment: Rin on her knees,&nb sp;arms outstretched with the camera in her < br> hands, as if offering it as sacrifice to& nbsp;her feudal lord.
Not anymore!& nbsp; The estate and title can never be& nbsp;mine. Not when I am a beast. It&nbs p;would dishonour my whole
family for me&nb sp;to take over.
Sesshoumaru took&nb sp;the camera from Rin more harshly than inte nded and the young woman winced as it&nb sp;was
handled so roughly. Sesshoumaru  ;made sure to place it carefully down on his desk.
“I will& nbsp;keep it safe.†Sesshoumaru repeated.
Rin nodded slowly. She repac ked her clothes, straightening out the simple t-shirts, shorts, skirts, frocks and
a few pairs of jeans. Sesshoumaru frowned as he too k in the casual contents. Clearly, there  ;were no gowns
or evening wear in the bag.
“You do not have any evening wear.†Sesshoumaru&n bsp;said more than asked.
Rin zip ped up the duffel and stood up. &a circ;€œUhm, no. I’m a co llege student and I thought I was going& nbsp;to be
living at my friendâ€& trade;s place for the summer.â€
&nbs p;
“We dress for dinner here, †Sesshoumaru said.
&acir c;€œYou mean like gowns and stuff?&acir c;€ Rin’s eyes widened.
< b>
“Yes.†Sesshoumaru  ;answered.
“You want me& nbsp;to wear a gown and have dinner with you every night?†Rin as ked slowly as if she wanted to
make  ;sure that she understood Sesshoumaru.
“I do. It is expected. Do you have gowns at home?†Sesshou maru asked.
“Maybe one&n bsp;or two. I don’t know if the y even fit,†Rin said with a shru g. “I’m sure I&n bsp;have some skirts and a
nice top&nbs p;along or something.â€
â&e uro;œEvening gowns are required. You will&nb sp;need them. I shall have my tailor com e and –â€
&ac irc;€œYou’re going to have&nbs p;your tailor make me clothes?†Rin’s eyebrows rose up into her hairline.
“I will not have you wearing ratty t-shirts and too tight jeans.†Sesshoumaru tipped& nbsp;his head to Rin’s current
apparel.
“My jeans are&nb sp;not too tight. They’re perfect,&a circ;€ Rin argued.
Sesshoumaru bi t back any further remarks as he found&n bsp;himself focusing too avidly on how the je ans encased
Rin’s long, muscular  ;legs and pert ass.
â€&oeli g;What’s going to happen at the se dinners?†Rin asked.
&a circ;€œWe will eat.â€
“You want us to talk& nbsp;during these dinners, too?†Rin& nbsp;was really grinning at that moment.
& nbsp;
“Only if you have something& nbsp;worthwhile saying. Otherwise silence will&n bsp;be preferable,†Sesshoumaru retorted.
< b>
“I see.â€
“I do not think you do.â€
“And&nbs p;will these dinners be lit by candlelight?&a circ;€ Rin asked.
“ I enjoy the softer light candles give.â € Sesshoumaru frowned then, realizing he  ;was walking straight into a
trap. &nbs p;
Rin bit her lower lip as&n bsp;if stifling a laugh. “Oh, okay.& acirc;€
“What?â€&nb sp;Sesshoumaru snapped.
“You& nbsp;want us to have romantic, candlelight di nners together where we dress up in our& nbsp;best clothes. That
doesnâ€&trade ;t sound at all odd for intern an d employer to you?â€
Sesshoumaru had not intended the scenario to& nbsp;be romantic. Not consciously. It was how he always had
dinner. The fact th at he would now be sharing it with someo ne was irrelevant. It might even be anno ying
and less pleasurable than being by himself.
“There is  ;no romance between us, Ms. Yamato. As I have made clear, I have no desir e to bed you. And your
constant as sertions otherwise make me quite sure you&nbs p;wish my thoughts were different on the  ;matter.â€
Sesshoumaru scowled at her& nbsp;though there was that slight trill of&nb sp;heat in his loins.
b>Rin’s cheeks coloured, but she&nbs p;didn’t look away as she said, enunciating every word, “Youâ €™ve made me your
indentured serv ant for a year. You’re threate ning my family with destruction. Youâ€& trade;ve taken my phone and
camera away from me, making me a virtual prisoner&nb sp;here. I can assure you, Sesshoumar u that I want
nothing at all&nbs p;from you but for this year to be over as quickly as possible.â€
< b>
Again there was a stare down, but& nbsp;this time it was Sesshoumaru who looked& nbsp;away. It was not foolish,
useless guilt. It was not him cringing from&nbs p;how hard and wrong those facts sounded bein g laid out like
that. Not at all.< br>
Sesshoumaru shouted, â€&oel ig;Jacken!â€
The door to th e study was immediately opened, which confirm ed Sesshoumaru’s suspicion that the& nbsp;Sikh had
been listening at the doo r the whole time.
â& euro;œYes, sir?†Jacken asked.
&nb sp;
“Take Ms. Yamato to her&n bsp;room,†Sesshoumaru instructed curtly.
< b>
Jacken nodded and reached for Rin& acirc;€™s bag. Rin fended him off.  ; “Oh, that’s okay,&nb sp;Jacken, I’ve got it. No
worries.â€
“It is not a problem at all, Rin. I am&n bsp;eager to show you to your room. It h as a beautiful view of the rose
garden out back.†Jacken said.
“The rose gar den?†Sesshoumaru straightened up, an ger flaring his nostrils. That was not t he room that he
had instructed Jacken&n bsp;to prepare for Rin. The young womanâ ;€™s room was supposed to be on&nb sp;the side of the
house overlooking the  ;garage. “I told you to p ut her on the west side room, Jacken&aci rc;€
“Oh, sir, I&nb sp;am so sorry, but I must not have  ;heard you. You know how my hearing isâ&euro ;¦â€ Jacken said with a
sh rug.
“Yes, selective.&a circ;€ Sesshoumaru growled. The room th at Jacken must have chosen was the one&n bsp;just a few
doors down from his  ;own. What was his servant thinking?
“I have already prepared&n bsp;the room. The other is not fit for&n bsp;habitation,†Jacken said breezily. &nbs p;“It must be
fated to be her.â€
Sesshoumaru scowled at him. “I see.â€
“You will, sir. I& nbsp;promise that you will.†Jacken bo wed before picking up Rin’s bag and leading the beautiful
young woman& nbsp;away from Sesshoumaru’s sight.
Sesshoumaru led&nbs p;Rin down a short hall to his study.&nb sp; The door was ajar. Even though  ;it was June, he had a
fire going& nbsp;as moon shadow was cold inside even on&n bsp;the warmest of days, let alone a cool eve ning like that
night. Candlelight provided&nb sp;the only other illumination in the room.&n bsp;
Did she rightly guess that

cou ldn’t know that Sesshoumaru still ha nd wrote out everything, because when he  ;was growing up there

And I h ave brought this beautiful young woman here,& nbsp;putting both of us in
danger.
&nbs p;
I am so grateful for your&nbs p;thoughtfulness!†Rin scoffed and tossed&n bsp;her beautiful head
showing her ears  ;with diamond studied roses in them.
  ;
“Now, the bag. &nbs p;What is in it?†Sesshoumaru asked.&n bsp;
Really?â€
< br>Was Rin some kind of dilettante rich g irl artist? Her daddy’s friend s buying her prints and promptly tossing  ;
them into a dark corner once the sale was complete?
Ses shoumaru stiffened. “He doesnâ ;€™t approve of you taking pictures?â& euro;
I don&a circ;€™t expect you to understand why,& nbsp;but you have to believe
me.â&euro ;
“I will allow you t o have the camera at certain times â&eu ro;“ after your work is done &ac irc;€“ but I must see every pictur e
you take. You do not have  ;permission to take pictures of anything you like. You must check with me first,â&eu ro;
&nbs p;
& nbsp;
“ I enjoy the softer light candles give.â € Sesshoumaru frowned then, realizing he  ;was walking straight into a
trap. &nbs p;
&nb sp;
