Maybe change was not a good thing. I mean things change just a little to often.
I sat pondering the newest turn of events. Why had Sess been so angry with me? What had I said? What had I done? I sighed yet again and glared at the sun. It was high in the sky. We had been traveling steadily for the last hour. I couldn*t wait to see Kaede once again. I loved the old woman, but I was still confused about my mate.
I remembered last night with a smile. Who would have thought that I would end up falling for the one person I loathed. I shook my head. The gods worked in mysterious ways. But the question still plagued my mind. What was wrong?
I shook my head again. I had no idea, but I promised myself that I would fix it when I returned.
We, Izayo and I, were traveling through a dense forest that separated the human village from our own. It was a long journey on horseback. I did not understand why we could not just run there.
Suddenly my horse reared and I was thrown off. I landed, unharmed, on the ground. I grumbled under my breath about stupid beasts as I rubbed my sore backside. Glaring at the equine I stood back up. The hair on the back of my neck stood on end and I became instantly aware that Izayo and myself were not alone.
I growled dangerously and moved between the threat and Izayo. It was an instinct. She was Alpha so her safety came first.
Out from behind a nearby tree stepped a man I did not recognize. Obviously Izayo did though because her own growl joined mine. I kept my eyes trained on him and waited for him to make his move.
The bastard just stood there smiling malevolently at us. He had his crimson eyes trained solely on me. I fought back the urge to decapitate the cocky bastard. As if sensing my thoughts he started laughing.
He didn*t take me seriously. He did not consider me a threat. I narrowed my eyes and scoffed.
*Lady Kagome, it has been to long.* He stated. The implication that we had met before troubled me. Surely I would remember one so vile.
*I beg to differ.* I stated my tone as icy as I could get it. It was pretty frigid; after all, I had the best teacher. He chuckled to himself.
*I did not think you would agree. I notice that you have finally mated.* He stated in amusement. I schooled my features. I did not want this bastard to know what I was thinking.
*What do you want Naraku?* Izayo asked, her voice firm. I thanked the gods that she had never addressed me in such a way.
*Why the same thing I have always wanted.* His eyes ran over my skin as he surveyed me. *I want the lands and lady of the west.* I stepped in front of Izayo, blocking her from view. I bared my teeth.
*You'll not touch her.* I hissed. His smile widened.
*It*s not her of which I speak.* He said. He began chuckling. The confusion was evident on my face. He looked at me again. I felt a revolting shudder travel the length of my spine. *Kagome.* Izayo said softly to me. *Run. Go home. Now.* She whispered. Realization dawned on me. I turned to run off. Back to the place that was now my home.
I didn't make it far, before a tentacle attempted to wrap around me. I used my claws to slash it to pieces. I ran as fast as my legs would carry me. I needed to get home. Then I stopped. Izayo. I*d left her behind. I whimpered.
I steeled my resolve. I had to get home. She had ordered me to return there. Even if she was no longer Alpha, I would still listen to her. I just hoped nothing happened to her. I returned to running. I pushed my body to the limit.
I needed to get back so I could help her. I slammed into something hard. I used my backwards momentum to somersault backwards and land in a crouch. I looked up and prepared myself for battle. I almost collapsed in relief when I saw that it was not an enemy that stood there.
Inutaisho looked at me urgently. It dawned on me that he had most likely sensed that his mate was in danger.
*My lord, The Lady Izayo, we must hurry. She told me to go home but I fear for her.* I said quickly. He nodded.
He turned into a blur of white and silver as he sped off to his mate. I was about to follow when I sensed the arrival of another demon. I was not worried about it though.
Well, not until I lost consciousness, that is.
My head throbbed painfully as I forced my eyes open. I could make out a dungeon-like room, but that was all. Everything was blurry. I moved to rub my eyes, but noticed that my hands were chained to the wall.
I attempted to break the metal and free my hands, but they were enchanted. I moaned as I lay my head back against the wall.
Where in the seven hells was I?
More importantly where was the bitch that had brought me here. I would bathe my claws in her blood the first chance that I had.
I smiled sadistically at the thought.
Soon Kagura, very soon.
