InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Dark Forest Embrace ❯ The Fire ( Prologue )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
A/N: Hey all! I know I really don't have the time to update my old fics, I really shouldn't start putting a new one up, but with the conclusion of the Haunting coming up really soon (like within five chapters or so) I've been thinking about putting up my plane old “idea” fics. Little ideas that latch onto me and scream “WRITE MEEEE!!!!!” so here is a very old one (older than Chemical Reactions….now that's weird for me) I found it in my floppy disc pile, you know, the pile of old floppy discs from like, Junior High because they didn't trust us to use actual compact discs. Yeah, free time in Comp. class was boring and having the high score in pinball for the past 2 years, I wasn't about to head for a third, solitary was crap(if I had to see those stupid card pictures again I was going to smash the firkin monitor!) and basically all the other games were shit. So I typed, and I sucked (duh, I was like 13).
So upon finding my old floppies (I had a freaking shoebox full! THE COLORS!!!!) I decided to rummage through my old crap. (Man I sucked at everything, writing, drawing, I even had some stupid pics of Digimon on there, really bad ones, like of the worst scenes ever!) ((not that I don't like digimon, but Tie grabbing Sora's hand to save her just isn't cute anymore, especially since I'm a Sora/Mat and Tai/Izzy fan now <3)) so yeah…. Now that I've babbled my crappyness to you all, READ! Its cute little sessinu brotherly loveyness!
Prologue
Hot, red flames licked at the base of the wooden walls for only a few moments before engulfing the entire shack as though it were mere kindling, and in a way it was. The light forest breeze blew stronger and sent golden flakes flowing like a wave of fireflies, setting fire to all they touched. The sound of horses thundered beyond the blazing walls of the hay shack, shining swords clashed like lighting.
Sesshoumaru knelt down in the far corner of the hay shack, clutching his baby brother to him, guarding him from the heat of the flames and the surrounding storm. The air was becoming dark and hard to breath, like the shadows of the night were trying to strangle him. His brother coughed fitfully and snuggled deeper into his chest whimpering. He knew he had to get them out of the fire, but the bandits were guarding the door. Looking around fretfully he noticed the large barrel of water over near the back. Struggling to pick his brother up he carried him over to the barrel. The flames were already lapping at the walls surrounding them. Placing his small hands on the cool wooden barrel he pushed with all his strength and tipping the barrel over onto the burning wood. The cold river water hissed and steamed as it drenched the wall. Sesshoumaru wasted no time and began plucking at the charred wood. It was hot and burned at his flesh but he continued to yank the crumbling wall apart. The water only bought him a bit of time and the flames were slowly eating its way back down the wood.
Letting out a frustrated cry he began to dig furiously at the hot wet ground, the mud was hot and stuck to his skin like paste, Inuyasha's small arms wrapped around his neck tightly as he coughed harshly. Sesshoumaru's hands stung to the point of numbness but he continued digging, scratching at the ground and charred walls in dull armature swings. Stinging tears filled up his eyes as he too started to cough. He could barely see, the acrid smoke blocked his vision. Soft wisps of fresh air swam past him, edging him on is silent cheers.
He was panting now, even the shallow breaths hurt. They had to get out or the lack of oxygen would suffocate them. Two more swings was enough, the wood broke away in chips and shards. He gazed over his shoulder at his brother, laughing on a surge of pure adrenaline, and swung the boy into his arms. His hands covered in mud and bleeding from splinters grasped at his baby brother, pushing the almost unconscious child out the hole, climbing out soon after. There, finally safe outside the hut, lungs heaving, he halted and watched the fire swallow up the hay shack they escaped from with less than a second to spare.
