InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Datenshi ❯ Datenshi ( One-Shot )

[ A - All Readers ]

A/N:
I know you all are probably wondering what the heck I am doing writing another one-shot when I still have other stories to work on. But this idea has been irritating me for the past two weeks and I feel it needs to be written.

InuYasha belongs to lovely and extremely talented Rumiko Takahashi, not me.

The sun shown down bright and happily upon the simple shrine, bathing it in its ethereal light. Yet it knew nothing of the pain that wracked the defeated creature resting beside it. The being's silvery hair blew softly in the wind as his eyes held shut in remorse and sadness.

Kikyou…Kikyou…Gomen nasai…

He slowly opened his right palm and finally let his golden eyes stare at the last piece he had left of her. To others it would seem just to be a simple piece of ribbon used to tie the hair back, but to him it was a sign. It was sign that Kikyou was near, near to him…following him. But now, it was nothing but a memory.

He felt so guilty for their past, and so remorseful that she was brought back to relive a solitary existence once again. Kami knows he tried to save her suffering soul…

It is entirely my fault…Because of me you were condemned…Because of me we were doomed…Because of me you suffered…

“InuYasha, you did not condemn me. I was condemned from the start when given the Shikon no Tama. And we were doomed before we even laid eyes upon each other. It is because of the jewel I suffered, not by you.” Kikyou's voice permeated his thoughts.

Images of their final farewell flooded his mind. Her sad, yet beautiful face smiling up at him as she spoke those words. And the way her ivory hand moved softly to untie her ebony hair and let it flow down in waves, never left him.

“InuYasha, always remember the time we spent together…always cherish those memories.” She said softly as she came near to him, before placing the pure white ribbon in his hands.

“Always remember me…” She whispered as her form faded from existence, leaving only the bright light of a pure soul.

I will always remember you Kikyou.

A small smile spread across his features as he glanced in his left hand, staring at this one final gift that he can give her. It had been by pure chance that he had found it, but now it seemed to be fate. He slowly took the ribbon she entrusted to him and wrapped it around the simple green stem, tying it into a bow. And then he gently laid the beautiful ivory bellflower upon her final resting-place.

Without you I would have never known compassion…
Without you I would have never known friendship…
Without you all I would have known was loneliness…

His clawed fingers still lingered on the simple ribbon that held her memory, stroking it between his thumb and forefinger.

Arigatou gozaimasu Kikyou. Arigatou my datenshi.
