InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Daughter of the Forest ❯ Chapter 7

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
A/n: I just realised why did i put this as a comedy? I'm terrible at making things funny. i hope you are enjoying my story... i know its confusing and stuff but this is my first attempt and i'm only young... it's good to know i'm good with the story. just so you know i really made it different than the book in daughter of the forest deirdre (equivialant to midoriko) knows what she is doing and pretty much does it to bring Sorcha (equivalant to Kagome) and red (or hugh he's equivalant to ????) but in this story midoriko has another reason.... i'm not going to tell you yet.

Where are all my reviewers? Don't leave me!!!! thank you candy girl, and crystal bliss, you people are so nice! i feel smiley (is that a word?)

disclaimer: i don't own inuyasha cause Rumiko Takahashi or the book 'daughter of the forest' cause Julliet Marillier does. So i don't claim the storyline or the characters.

on with the fic....

Chapter seven- Healing

Kagome gasped. Everything was beautiful, the moonlight, the forest, the wind blowing through her hair.

If kagome hadn't just rescued a prisoner who had fallen unconcious and was slowly bleeding to death this would have been the best night of her life.

Unfortunatly Kagome's mind was filled with doubts and worried. First was the prisoner who had slumped on her back as they rode through the air, a few feet from the forest floor, on Kilala. Kagome could feel the blood staining the back of her shirt and she could see the stream the dripped from Kilala's fur. Some of the wounds were open and if she didn't stop soon she would surely die.

The next problem was she had just betrayed her father and her family. If her father found out, it would be her head on the chopping block. She felt guilty for betraying him but knew she was right.

The third and last problem was where would she hide the girl? And how would she heal her? Could she truly trust a dream? Would the caves even be there? All these doubts ran through her mind and she began to feel sick. What could she do?

Kilala felt the girls doubts and worried. Was she truly the one? 'If you have such doubts in your own powers and ours, are you still the one?' Kilala thought.

The moment kagome saw the cave all her doubts melted away and her eyes widened in wonder. She had never been to this part of the forest, where seven rivers shinning by the moonlight connected directly in front of a giant cave mouth. Where that water was comming from she didn't know and didn't care. The entire area surrounded by trees glowing in the moon.

"Wow" She exclaimed.

Kilala growled in happily.

Then kagome felt weight shift on her back and then heard a loud thump.

Turning around she cried out as the poor girl lay spawled out on the ground. Her body crusted in blood and wounds, her skin as white as a ghost and her hair tangled and mattered.

If anyone saw her now they may think she was dead.

"Oh crap!" Kagome growled as she hopped off Kilala's back and went to help the girl.

Kilala disapeared back into the darkness of the forest.

Kagome didn't even notice as she used all her strength to drag the girl into the cave.

It was dark but not damp or scary, it was almost magical, Kagome felt strenth within the cave and she felt almost... Safe.

The only problem was she couldn't see a thing.

When she fell over something soft and cushy she gulped.

"A bed?" and blankets and pillows. If only she could see.

Suddenly the cave lit up and Kagome gasped.

It was so much bigger inside than it looked and there were two beds with blankets and pillows, shelves stocked with food and even clean clothes. It was so perfect.

"Mew" The little Kilala purred as she jumped beside Kagome. In her mouth was a huge bag. Kagome laughed, it looked so cute as the cat dragged a bag two times bigger than her.

The cat had returned to her room and collected the herbs and bandages.

Without a second thought Kagome got to work.

First things first get the girls blood stained clothes off and examine her wounds.

As Kagome took of her shirt she wanted to cry, the damage was so brutal to despicable.

"Haven't you ever seen a wound before?" Hissed a husky voice.

Kagome looked up the girl was awake and she had fury in her eyes. It was a good thing Kagome had a strange gift to understand many languages, even demon.

"What are you going to do now? Kill me?" She croaked.

On instinct Kagome fetched a glass of water, another thing that was mysteriously there, and put it in the girls face.

"Ha! Do you think i'm that foolish to drink your poison?" She pushed the cup away feebly.

"Hay! Look i didn't rescue you to be insulted" Kagome growled.

"So the little witch can talk!" The girl chuckled horsly.

"I'm a healer not a witch and i want to help you!" kagome handed the cup back to the girl hoping she would drink "You better drink. Even you should know that your body needs it"

The girl did drink but watched Kagome like a hawk.

"What do you want with me?" She asked not at all kindly "Do you want to cut me up like your bastard family did? Do you want me to talk cause i wont!".

Kkagome jumped back as if she had been hit "My family isn't like that!" She cried feeling deep down it was true.

"Ha!" The girl laughed water spilling on the bed, she felt so tired and weak, her mind fuzy "All your kind are killers!"

"That's not true! My father wouldn't do that!" She could feel tears in her eyes at the very thought she knew was true. She held them back, she wouldn't cry in front of her and show her weakness.

"It was them who cut me with knives and stabbed me with burning metal. It was them would slaughtered all my friends on the battlefield and ripped them limb from limb while they begged to die fast. All you people kill without reason like demons"

At that Kagome couldn't take it. She shouldn't have been affected so but hearing things she knew were true and not wanting it to be so about her father... She ran out of the cave and sat under a tree and cried.

The girl watched and snorted, she had no idea who this girl was, or her father, only that she had seen her before, but she was sure she had seen her once in the throne room near king Leon and in her dreams?

---------

Kagome sat in the dark letting the tears fall from her eyes "No he's a good man and does what he has to, to protect us" she told herself but that girl was the evidence of her fathers madness.

"She is right he is a killer" Said the spirit as she sat beside Kagome. "But that is not how he always was. You cannot let that girl affect you"

"Midoriko why is he like that?" Kagome cried

"It is easier to hide in a world of hate than to feel grief for someone you loved so much. When you hide in a world of fantasy it is hard to return. You should remember that. I know what it feels like... To be lost"

Kagome looked into Midoriko's cold pale eyes filled with sorrow, she had always noticed Midoriko was very pale and transparent.

"That girl is angry at herself and the world. She can't even remember who she is, her name," She whispered, "now you must get to work. You mustn't be afraid. I'm here to help you"

Midoriko put a dead hand on Kagome's face and wiped away the tears. "All will be alright. You know what to do, your mother told me so..." She smiled "There is one herb i want you to use for keeping her calm its called goldenwood" (a/n: from the book. i have no imagination of my own)

As Kagome got up Midoriko remembered something important "You must listen to Kilala child"

"But she doesn't talk?" Kagome said puzzeled.

"You have the power, inside you, like your mother but different. She could see the future but you can hear and be heard by others. If you listen kilala will talk from her heart"

Kagome stared back 'She could see' did she mean her mother's forsight? Then what did it mean that she could hear and be heard?

She walked back inside the cave determined to help that girl whether she wanted it or not.

Kilala had curled up on the floor and was purring contentedly. That' when kagome noticed the fire... It was so bright and warm.

----------

Kagome spent the entire night fighting with that girl, trying not to strangle her and do more damage as she tried to bandage and clean the wounds. The girl had hundreds of insults all Kagome didn't really enjoy hearing and plently of curses.

Kilala had slept soundly through the whole experience.

When the girl had finally weakened from her words and fallen asleep Kagome finished the job, finally glad she didn't have to look at those horrific wounds until tomorrow.

The last thing she would do was cut the goldenwood.

As she walked out of the cave she couldn't believe it was still dark, and that the plant she was looking for was so close by.

Collecting the plant and returning to the cave she was met with the glowing red eyes of Kilala.

Putting the herbs on one of the shelves she knelt down to the little cat and lifted her into her lap "Can you talk?" she asked

The cat gave no response but a gentle purr "I must be crazy talking to you" she concentrated really hard on the cats big red eyes. She didn't notice the magical glow but felt its power risisng in herself.

'You also talk to a ghost so what's so amazing?' Kilala thought.

Kagome gasped and accidently through the cat across the room 'I didn't just hear you!'

'What's wrong with that?' Kilala thought but this time Kagome didn't hear.

The morning went smoothly the girl slept most of the time. She seemed so peaceful lying there.

If only she knew the nightmare this girl was having...

There were so many faces of people she thought she knew. They were happy smiling laughing, waving for her to come. But she couldn't remember who they were or why they were important...

"Sango" they would call for that she was sure was her name but they would slowly disapear into a darkness much like her memories.

She reached out to one of them a man wearing a purple monk cloak, but just as she grabbed hold of his cloak he disapeared and she was alone, the darkness swallowing her.

She screamed...

a/n: I hope this wasn't confusing. i just wanted to talk about kagomes special powers... and other stuff like that.

i can't believe i made sango mean. she should get nice though.

it will make sense once i'm completly finished, if that ever happens.
