Chapter twentyone- Under A Spell

Kagome had to stop herself from growling. She had spent the past week locked up in her room. Occasionally a servant would come around to bring her food, Shippo and Miroku came and spent time with her and even more rarely Inuyasha would come and talk with her.

She was so mad at him for treating her like this. She neede fresh air, to be outside! In here all she could think of was her home and that made her feel worse and worse. It also seemed that the forests call was getting stronger and stronger.

It was probably from being cooped up all day. She wanted desperatly to go outside and feel the rough bark of the trees and dirt and leaves beneath her toes.

"Do you long to go home?" Asked a cold voice.

She hadn't even realised that Sesshomaru had entered the room, he was so quiet. She instantly felt wary. What did he want.

He repeated the question "Do you want to go home so badly?"

She thought about it for a moment. She did want to go home, see her family again. But the place she had left was not exactly her home, it had been a place of fear and waiting for the end. Waiting for Naraku to cut the whole forest down and get her.

Here she did not have to fear him as much. Koga was a bit of a problem but Inuyasha easily solved that by locking her up.

Looking back at the demon she made no move. He seemed to consider her for a moment and then asked "Do you hate my brother?"

Then her eyes went wide and she looked down blushing. she didn't hate Inuyasha, even thouh he trapped her in this room, even though he kidnapped her from her own. She liked Inuyasha, she liked the way he made her feel stronger, safer. She knew she could trust him, she wanted to trust him so badly. Some nights she would just think about the demon. What if they had met under different circumstances? what if Naraku had never come around?

Sesshomaru gave a sly smile then he said "There's gossip that Inuyasha is under a spell." It was as if he was asking a question "They say you put him under a spell"

Kagome had heard that rumour before, it hurt her that others thought she was a witch. But it also got her thinking, could it be possible that he was under a spell? Midoriko had many strange powers could she have done it to protect her?

She was convinced that it was true. That was the only reason he cared about her and that felt bad somehow. She would just have to except that.

Sesshomaru laughed and left the room without a sound leaving Kagome to her thoughts.

Inuyasha sat on the edge of the bed and sighed. He couldn't stop thinking about her, about her face and about the danger he was sure followed her.

He had another dream again, the one where she was running in her old forest and he could not find her. This time he did find her though, but he wished he hadn't.

She had been dead he blood everywhere. The ghostly woman stood beside her and in her hand she held a small pink sphere with a shard missing. When he came near she said "You are too late" and then they were all gone, swallowed by dark shadows and he was alone and sad.

He confided his worries to Miroku who listened with a smile on his face.

"I'm really worried about her" He whispered "I think she's in danger but i don't know what from"

"Why would she be in danger? She's some wild girl" He replied.

"I've been having these dreams" Inuyasha stood as if pained by his thoughts "i'm not sure what it is... I think... I think it might be something worse than Koga. I think it's the reason she is so afraid, why she was in the forest when we found her, not Koga"

"Who do you think it is?" Miroku asked concerned

Inuyasha ran a clawed hand through his silver hair and growled "I don't know!" He admitted angrily.

He wanted to help her so badly. If she were no longer in danger he would have a chance with her. If she could trust him...

"Why do i care about her so much?" He growled in anger.

Miroku began to laugh but stopped when Inuyasha began to glare at him. Miroku slapped his friend on the back and said "My friend I think you are in love!"

Inuyasha eye's widened and he didn't move, the words only just sinking into his mind. "love?" He whispered contemplating what Miroku had said. Could it be possible? It seemed the word clicked with Jenny and now that he thought about it he was sure it was true.

He couldn't help but smile. Then he remembered what he was. He was a hanyou, a half demon. How could she ever love someone like him? His smile disappeared and he hung his head in shame, he had dirty blood in his veins and she would never want someone like him.

"First I must protect her," Inuyasha resolved "I... I wish i could..." He shook his head and decided not to tell Miroku his plan. "Just watch over her, Koga is a danger then we shall see what happens"

'Then I will make her my mate' He thought secretly 'I will not let her go without trying'

Kagura growled as she was once again punished for her failure. Naraku fumed as Midoriko and Kagome eluded his grasp. Even though he now knew that Midoriko was within the forest he could not get to her because that tangle of tree was enchanted and impenetrable.

Kagura cupped her arm were he had struck her with his poisonous tentacles. There was a small cut that stung and made her breath shallow. She held her tongue though and kept her treasonous thoughts to herself.

"I will find her!" He roared "And I will take her soul, do you hear me?" He seemd to be talking to the ceiling.

Kanna knew who he meant to hear his threats and she also knew the guardian of Miko's had. But she knew her sister would be safe, she had to stay safe for them to be ruinited.

Midoriko sat beneath the great oak feeling cold and alone. It had been a long time since she had last seen Kagome and she worried about her every second. She hoped she had made the right decision of lettig her go with the demon.

She was sure Kagome was meant to be with him from the very moment she had first seen him from behind the bush. Midoriko had been there and had seen the way Kagome had stared at Inuyasha.

If only she had never been so stupid about Naraku, if only she had never let him trick her. She could still remember that day, the day when she could have had her freedom, when she could have fought him.

It had been at this very spot when she had just run away from Naraku. He had found her here and for a moment she had thought him changed. She could not help but trust him.

He had pleaded with her and seemed human. He had kissed her. He had been so gentle so sweet. Kilala had warned her, she had said he would try to make her let her guard down. But she didn't listen and with that kiss he took a peice of her soul and she was trapped in this world forever.

It had only been by lukc that Kilala had saved her or else all her soul would be gone and she would have been his slave like Kanna and Kagura and there would have been no chance. Not even death would be able to save her from that fate. If he had her he would never let her die and that would be worse than having a peice of your soul missing.

Kilala mewed as if reading Midoriko's dark thoughts, she licked her hand with her rough cat tongue and that seemed to reasure Midoriko that one day the hollow spot in her soul would one day be filled.
