Chapter 9 - The Surprise That Should Never Have Come

Something jumped out of the shadows from in front of us as something else jumped out of the back. Souta screamed as he noticed the eyes of them both, watching them circle us like we were prey and they were eagles.

I stood straight and pushed Souta out of the small ring they had created as they were on either side of me, knowing full well that they were not interested in him.

“Go home Souta,” I said as I watched them both from the corners of my eyes, “run and get Mama or Gramps.”

His eyes went wide as he ran, looking over his shoulder seconds before he disappeared from my view. Knowing that it was I that they wanted now made things all the weirder and scarier. One of them laughed deeply as he and the other stopped circling me and looked at me.

“Fear smells good on you new girl,” one of them says as he shows his fangs in a smile, “but we still want the jewel.”

“No,” I said as I shifted my feet around, knowing that they would be attacking me soon enough, “I am the keeper of the Jewel and you are not getting it unless you kill me first.”

“Fine,” the other snarled from behind as he jumped at me.

Ducking right down, he flew straight over the top of me, crashing into the guy on the other side. Taking the chance, I turned in the opposite direction and ran for it, listening to the two… things swear at me and taunt me as they followed. Not looking back, I jumped a fence and ran through someone's back yard, thankful that we were out of Japan.

Jumping the other side, I landed with a small thump and crouched on the ground, catching my breath. Looking both ways down the pathway, I knew that I had a little time before they were both up to me, even if they were faster than the average person.

Looking back over my shoulder instead of forward, I took off down the road, hoping to get some more distance between them and me. But because I wasn't looking forward, I didn't notice the group of people that had just coming up the pathway.

“FUCK!” I screamed as I fell backwards and whacked my head on the side of the road, loosing sight for a second.

A chorus of replies came from the group before a shadow came over my face. A kind looking face appeared in my view when I got my sight back, seconds before I was ripped backwards.

Turning around quickly, I threw my miko powers at the two that were following me, not caring if they were purified or stunned. Both hissed loudly as they were hit, though never losing the taint of their eye colour.

I stood there for a while, catching my breath and not taking my eyes off the two in front of me. The group that I had run into were standing behind me, being quiet. I knew that they were probably thing shit about this but right now all I needed to think was about my powers.

Snarling, one of the twins stepped forward, just as a sigh came from beside me.

“Not you two fuckers again,” said the boy from school this morning.

His long hair was out and some bits were blowing in the wind in front of his face. He looked quite hot standing there, until a girl walked next to him and he wrapped his arm around her.

I looked forward again as I realised that the people I had run into had formed a line along side me, all of us facing the twins.

“Shut up Inuyasha,” the taller one states as he begins forward again, “all we want is the Jewel and we'll be on our way. Hand in over bitch.”

“And again, the answer is still get fucked! You are not having this Jewel.”

“Go back to Kouga before he realises that you are both missing,” the guy called Inuyasha spat at them, stepping forward slightly, “and make sure you tell the wolf-shit that I say fuck off!”

“And what the fuck have you got to do with the girl Inu,” snarled one, “looks like your bitch is already hanging off you in need of protection. Need another one to make up for lost time do you?”

“Fuck off Hakkaku,” said a boy that was to the left of me, dreamy violet eyes and black hair pulled back into a tiny ponytail, “before we decided to do some real damage to that face of yours and Ginta's. Yet even more damage to add to the already deformed peace of shit that you seem ever so proud of.”

Everyone standing near me roared with laughter as Ginta and Hakkaku turned a bright red, baring their fangs and bounding towards us. I looked around quickly and noticed that no one else had even taken notice of them coming straight for us. Rolling my eyes to myself, I made a barrier around the line and held it even after the two had been thrown back.

Faces turned to me in utter shock as the full hint of what happened had begun churning through their heads. Inuyasha growled next to me while his girlfriend held tighter to the front of his shirt. Miroku and the girl next to him were both staring with eyes the size of dinner plates. The guy that called my Kikyo was smiling a little, still having a confused look in his eye. Breathing hard, I watched as Ginta and Hakkaku stood slowly and bolted in the opposite direction, stumbling every now and then.

I removed the shield as Mama and Gramps rounded the corner in our car, looking wide-eyed at me. Panting, I put my hands on my knees and smiled up at Mama before I hit the ground, willingly letting unconsciousness over come me.
