The next morning came peacefully and Kagome was awake. Up too early, even.
She stared up at the ceiling of her canopy for long moments before rolling off to her side and sleepy eyes opened up fully to find her phone already fully charged. She unplugged the charger and looked at the time—6:04 am. Kagome frowned. She wanted to go back to sleep but too late now, she was already fully awake.
Kagome pulled the duvet from her body and moved to sit upright then glanced down at her right hand, opening and re-opening her palm as she examined it.
Just where did that strength come from? It was… new. She didn’t think she was capable of crushing someone’s wrist but even after all that… It felt good that she injured Naraku. Maybe he’d get the hint and finally figure out that she has no interest in him at all.
She told Sesshoumaru of all what had happened and that only confirmed that Naraku had some sort of connection to the drug. It was possible he was the maker but they had no proof of that yet. And he had no reason to show up at the mall she was hanging around at all of a sudden. Kagome also told of Sesshoumaru that the moment she saw him, something triggered within her. The same desire she held for Sesshoumaru was there for Naraku but it only lasted for a few seconds. After that? She hated him down to the very core.
If he truly was the maker of this drug, why did it not work as intended? If he was the target, why did it have an opposite effect? So many questions left unanswered and neither Kagome nor Sesshoumaru may find the answers to them. Hopefully their trip to that hermit will answer everything.
That trip would be in about two days.
Well, at least her body was energized after having sex with Sesshoumaru.
Kagome blushed. Both in embarrassment and the thought of having sex with her big brother. What a life she lived in now.
What will she do for the next two days? Avoid Sesshoumaru altogether as they planned or something else?
Kagome gasped out in surprise at the sudden sound of her ringtone blaring as the silence was broken and head turned to look at her phone. It was 6:12 am and Sesshoumaru was calling her. Eyes blinked in confusion. What did he want? And why was his timing so pin point whenever she thought about him? It had got to be a fluke. Phone was placed to her ear when she answered her phone, “Ohayou, nii-sama. Is there something wrong?”
‘Get dressed. We leave in two hours.’
Leave? Were they heading out somewhere? It couldn’t be to the demon slayer organization, could it?
“Where are we going?”
‘I will fill you in on the details if you can manage to get to the kitchen.’
Now she had to wonder why he worded it like that. The drug wasn’t affecting her that much to her body. She could handle it, no problem! Save for those… rare times. Ahem.
“I’ll be there in a bit…” After she hanged up, she slid out of bed and went to take her shower and get ready for the day ahead. She hoped it would turn out to be eventful as yesterday!
She’d emerge out from the shower and placed on a simple sky blue dress, sitting down at her dresser and began to brush her hair as she eyed her reflection for long moments. Brushing and brushing and brushing until her reflection in the mirror stopped brushing her hair.
Kagome’s eyes widened greatly and lips parted to gasp but no sound came forth. It was happening again, the same thing that happened when she left the hospital that one night.
Her reflection’s lips spread into a wide grin and set down her brush upon the smooth surface of her dresser, its body shifting to sit straight and those burning blue hues stared hard at the girl in the ‘real world’.
‘Can you feel it? The amount of power you now hold?’
No, no. Enough of this. If she stared anymore into that mirror, Kagome believed that she would lose her mind. She immediately set down her brush upon the dresser and stood then promptly left her room. Her reflection simply watched from her spot and Kagome could hear her own laughter echoing in her mind until it would end abruptly when she closed her door behind her.
She needed that suppressant Sesshoumaru mentioned or else she was going to go crazy.
With a light yawn, Kagome paced her way through the home, walking down the halls and down those stairs, making it to the kitchen in about a minute or so and soon she was graced with a sound of a sizzling fire and something smelled good… Was someone cooking? And was that Sesshoumaru?
Indeed it was because she saw him standing by the stove and was surprised to even see him there. Kagome slid into a stool before the counter and the moment she got settled in, Sesshoumaru handed her a plate of eggs with toast. ….What!
Again he did this. He was showing her something she had not expected to see from him ever. Why? Was he trying to be nice? Was there a reason to all of this? Maybe, maybe not. Kagome just could not understand this youkai at all. She eyed her plate for long seconds, Sesshoumaru gazing at her as he’d wait for some sort of approval for her ‘breakfast’, which was required for humans to eat. And Kagome had a huge appetite after all, so… Kagome rose up her hands to grasp her toast and she looked up at Sesshoumaru before her.
“Arigato, Nii-sama.”
He’d nod his head lightly once she gave her approval of her food.
She’d eat her breakfast in peace and finished as those minutes went by, feeling quite content now that she got food in her tummy that morning. It wasn’t much but it was enough to satisfy her at this early hour. Kagome placed her plate in the sink once all her food was consumed and as her gaze would find Sesshoumaru, he was already sitting by the breakfast table. She joined him while he began to read over some papers and those curious blues would attempt to glance over what he was looking at.
As she leaned over, Sesshoumaru gave no indication of letting her see them as he remained unmoving with those golden eyes glancing over the papers but from what Kagome could sense from him, he looked to be annoyed.
What was the problem?
“Seems my half-brother still fails to carry out his duties when asked.” Kagome noticing his voice was quite loud in the space between them for some reason… But she’d figure out why when another would make their appearance into that kitchen.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever! I was fuckin’ held up by Kikyou at the time!”
“That does not excuse you for not completing the task yesterday as you were told.”
Inuyasha arrived into the kitchen when he heard Sesshoumaru’s big mouth, voicing his opinions with much distaste and likely done on purpose since Inuyasha knew Sesshoumaru could sense he was coming. The hanyou growled at Sesshoumaru’s rebuttal in which he would ignore, even as Inuyasha strode in the kitchen with an angered gait then slipped into the seat right across from Sesshoumaru, adjacent from Kagome’s seat.
Kagome’s head tilted in question as she was highly confused about what was going on and Inuyasha saw this so that only concluded that he would have to explain the situation to her.
“Sorry, I was supposed to take you to the committee buildin’ yesterday after we went to the mall but it fuckin’ slipped my mind—“
“My incompetent brother likes to fool around with women of low class.”
Inuyasha glared daggers at his older brother and gritted his teeth tight upon hearing those words, “Hey, you shut your trap, alright!? Sick of you beratin’ me all the damn time.”
“Because you have yet to understand how immature you are.”
Again, Sesshoumaru paying no heed to his brother even as he looked over the forms needed for Kagome to sign but Inuyasha wasn’t having any of that right now. Kagome knew he was ready to do some damage but she quickly reached out to grasp Inuyasha shoulder in which his attentions were upon her and saw the look she gave him, eventually calming down his temper and sighed.
“Inuyasha, it’s okay. It couldn’t be helped, ne?”
She remembered Inuyasha getting a call after he dropped her back home from going to the mall and knew it was Kikyou because he had the most unpleasant look on his face at the time.
They were truly mates indeed.
He slowly nodded his head but again, he’d glare at Sesshoumaru and immediately moved to his feet.
“Don’t bother getting dressed. Chichi-ue has ordered me to take her.”
“Yeah, I know.”
And off Inuyasha went to fix him some food to eat on that early morning and while he did that, Sesshoumaru would now be performing the duties Inuyasha should have done. He left papers for Kagome to sign, indicating where she’d have to place her signature. Kagome had entirely forgotten that she was living with youkai. So many rules, so many customs… Just to live with them, too.
Luckily Kagome knew of these things so she read over those contents before signing anything. Seems it was none other than registering her name within the youkai community as a whole so that she would be fully recognized as one of the ‘daughters’ of the Inu Clan household yet not actually related. She would have some ownership of the clan’s properties.
She went wide eyed at how many things she could ask for and even own if she wanted to. Hell, she could ask for her own house, like a vocational home of sorts, and lots of other things. She would still have to live at the Inu clan house, which was the catch. The youkai world was vastly different compared to the humans.
Anyway, she signed them all after reading the contents, handing the papers back to Sesshoumaru.
Upon taking the pen from her, just for a moment, Kagome felt the smooth brush of his fingers over her own in a feather light touch. It sent goose bumps down her skin and couldn’t believe a small, simple contact like that could get a reaction out of her. She was certain it wasn’t because of the drug… More so on herself. Why?
Well, she was starting to grow attached to Sesshoumaru a whole lot. He was sincere when he wanted to be yet a thorn in her side at other times. Like yesterday when he fucked her and Houjou could have very well heard her. A light blush crept upon her cheeks upon remembering that but quickly shook her head to dissipate such thoughts.
As Kagome gathered up all those papers she signed in her hands, Inuyasha grumbled to himself when he made his all but pleasant exit. That hanyou chose to keep those opinions to just him and him alone. Poor Inuyasha.
Eyes watched as he’d leave but soon Sesshoumaru would be following suit.
“I’ll start the car. Be outside when you have finished here.”
Kagome would frown as she was left alone in that kitchen and wondered why these brothers held so much hostility towards each other most of the time.
Sure, they had different mothers but still, they had the same father who would be living under the roof with them. Was it something about Inuyasha Sesshoumaru didn’t like? Or vice versa? Kagome was a bit curious but felt like she shouldn’t pry in between brothers like that.
Tongue washed over her lips when she stood and would be off to gather her bag and her phone, soon to head out with her big brother that morning.

After a quiet car ride to their destination, the two of them made it to the committee building and within the hour upon arriving, everything was done and done. She handed in those papers, got them all stamped and now she got registered beneath the Inu Youkai clan officially.
She had gained access to so much property; she wasn’t so sure what to even do with it. Well, not like she needed anything, anyway. Kagome was content for the moment.
After leaving that small office, her nervousness died down once everything was over and so, she would be out looking for Sesshoumaru. She could feel eyes on her the moment she walked down that hallway and did her best to ignore them even as she made it to the waiting lounge. When she arrived, she closed her eyes briefly, running a hand through her dark locks with other hand fanning her face. It was hot. The building was a bit cool but her throat felt parched. When eyes opened, Sesshoumaru would be there standing before her, handing her a bottle of water.
So considerate! Kagome took the bottle from Sesshoumaru and thanked him with a nod of her head and small smile.
“Have you finished?”
Kagome nodded her head again.
“Good. We must take our leave promptly.”
He wished to leave so soon? Why? Well, she wasn’t going to question him. Actually, this whole place was giving her the creeps. Nothing but youkai all around and some of them began staring at her as if she was meat or something. Her bottle of water was opened and gulped down, feeling much better than previous once her thirst was quenched. Soon Sesshoumaru began to walk and Kagome paced right behind him, heading for the exit of the building. They did not get far unfortunately as a familiar voice to the male would be heard some feet away behind them.
“Sesshoumaru!~”
The pair would stop in their tracks when a female’s voice would call out for the eldest son and Kagome turned her head to curiously take a glance at who was calling for him.
Heels of that woman clacked on the floor as she paced for Sesshoumaru with wide smile on her lips. She was just as tall as Kagome, pale skinned and wearing one skin tight pencil dress that showed off those curves she had. It was a deep violet purple color with long sleeves that stopped just before elbows. The front showed just the top of her breasts and rest was clothed all the way down, stopping after knees. She had beads in her hair that held up those strands, leaving her bangs around her face. She had blood red eyes, pointy tipped ears and sharp teeth… Yep, she’s a youkai.
And just beside her was another woman who was the same height as the first lady, but she wore a white long sleeved dress shirt that was tucked into her black colored skirt that flared out beautifully. Both of them wore some high heels that Kagome knew she would have trouble walking in but these girls managed easily.
The first woman now stood before Sesshoumaru with her hands on her hips, painted red lips still splayed wide in a smile. Sesshoumaru slowly turned from his spot to regard the woman with that same icy expression he would give just about everyone.
“Kagura.”
Kagome saw the woman named Kagura lit up when Sesshoumaru called her name, “Ah, so you remember me. I was beginning to worry since you haven’t spoken to me in so long.” And she began to pout with the second woman coming beside her and giggled.
“Well, he is a busy man, ne?”
“I suppose so, Yura.”
So these two women knew of Sesshoumaru? Kagura and Yura were their names and they were both youkai.
“You should at least pay attention to your fiancé, Sesshoumaru-sama.”
The words of Yura were heard by both Kagome and Sesshoumaru and Kagome was highly surprised in hearing this. So this was his fiancé? Kagura was never mentioned at all by Sesshoumaru or anyone within that household… Was it even true? And even if it was, why did he do those… things…. To her? So much… Naughty things.
And this feeling that suddenly arose within her… Was it jealousy? Why the hell would she be jealous? Sure, Kagura had a nice looking frame, petite if anything and looked just as young as Kagome but the main difference was that Kagura was a youkai while she was not. So why did jealously make its appearance?
“No one is worthy of this Sesshoumaru’s time.”
Kagura frowned, “What’s gotten into you lately? You seem so distant now.”
Well, he always was but Kagura did remember a time where Sesshoumaru showed some interest in her. It was enough to have her claiming that she managed to melt his heart and proclaimed their engagement! …Her engagement. It wasn’t the same for Sesshoumaru.
And now, after all that time she had focused her attentions on Sesshoumaru, Kagura would finally set her eyes on the girl that was trailing with that man. When their gazes met, Kagome offered a light bow of her head in silent greet.
Kagome did not like this Kagura girl one bit.
Kagura’s brows rose just slightly when she viewed Kagome and began to approach her, “Oh, you’re a cutie. Is this the girl who you’ve been spending most of your time with, Sesshoumaru?” Sparing the silver haired male a quick glance before returning her eyes to Kagome. Kagome would smile back to Kagura but for some reason, everything about her set her off. Her demeanor, her aura her personality… It reminded her of another but who?!
“She is my imouto.”
“Imouto?!”
Both Kagura and Yura nearly shouted out that word in unison, both of their eyes going to the girl that stood beside Sesshoumaru as she got all the attention now. Sesshoumaru never had a younger sister before as they only knew he had a younger half-brother so where the hell did this girl come from? She looked nothing like him, either, and they had different scents. So… How?
Yura’s eyes widened slowly as if she had remembered something important, “Oh, I heard this… His father mated a human woman a couple weeks ago. This must be her daughter…”
Kagome nodded her head to Yura’s words, “Yes. My name is Kagome. Kagome Higurashi.”
“Kagome, I see. Well, welcome to the youkai world~ I bet your life was so boring before all this, eh?”
Kagura’s painted lips spreading to a smile once more when she took in Kagome’s features after she spoke. Kagome just laughed lightly and was inwardly rolling her eyes at her words. Pathetic.
“No, it was fine, actually. It’s even better now that I got to know the Inu Youkai clan, especially Nii-sama.” Cue stepping in a tad bit closer towards Sesshoumaru.
Kagura’s eyebrow twitched when Kagome regarded Sesshoumaru as her elder brother with such an honorific and even creeping closer to him, jealousy over coming her but she wouldn’t show it on her face. She smiled at the human girl and never in her life had she wanted to rip someone’s throat out so fast. This one, Kagome… Kagura was going to make her life hell, that’s for sure.
Kagome on the other hand remained smiling at Kagura, acting near oblivious to her true intent on the play of words to the woman and Sesshoumaru’s lips nearly tugged to a smirk. His imouto was a sharp one. And he could tell Kagura wasn’t going to let that one down either but he was mildly surprised she managed to remain calm in this situation. Well, there was no need to act out at the moment since they were in a public facility after all. Causing a scene here would be highly rude and immature.
Kagura smiled at Kagome as her hands folded before her and regarded the girl with nothing but friendliness! …But Kagome knew it was just a façade.
“Ooh, I see. Well, you’ll be seeing me a lot more often. We are engaged after all, ne, Sesshoumaru?”
Kagome heard that sickening sultry tone of hers and just had to refrain from shaking her head. She was so, so, so tempted to tell Kagura all the things they had already done together, just to spite her. But no, Kagome was more mature than that and didn’t need to stoop so low. Kagome was about to reply to Kagura but it seems Sesshoumaru had other things on his mind when eyes glared angrily at the brown-haired woman.
“Enough of your slander, woman. This Sesshoumaru is bound to no one.”
Kagura would huff in defeat as arms crossed and Yura giggled at her companion, “Maybe one day he’ll say yes.”
Sesshoumaru had enough of these women. That was all they’d do—Annoy him. And quite frankly, he was tired of their shit. So, without further ado…
Sesshoumaru turned to Kagome in which she glanced back up at his face in slight confusion but she would get the hint as he wished to move on. And so he did, now making his exit out of the building while he left the pair of youkai women there in the lounge. Kagome would bow her head before the two women before making her leave and when she turned to follow Sesshoumaru, Kagura was almost certain she saw her smirk.
Ooh, that bitch.
It’s on now.
As for Kagome, she felt so satisfied right then and there, unable to hide the smirk that was on her lips and knew Kagura may have seen it.
Good.
Sesshoumaru took a quick glance to the girl on his right and wondered why her aura began to flare up just a bit.
Huh.
At least that morning was a good start to Kagome’s day. Hopefully it’ll remain as such.
=-=
Now the pair was on their way back home and began to plan on how to tell their parents of their little ‘trip’.
It was likely they were going to need the whole weekend as there will be a lot of driving involved. And once they were there, Kagome would have to perform a lot of tests and analyze what was happening to her body.
A soft sigh left Kagome’s lips as she eased back within her seat, her eyes dropping down to her phone and looked at it for long moments. She was staring at the last message she sent to Sango which was about how ‘sickness’. Then she began to scroll upwards, taking a brief glance at all her messages she had sent to Sango from the beginning of time—which was actually the first time they exchanged numbers.
So many things had changed ever since… Ever since her life now revolved around youkai.
A frown graced her lips and now her gaze went out the window as the world passed by her with Sesshoumaru driving along that highway.
Why did this happen to her? Was living a normal, human life that bad that fate had to spice up her life? With youkai?
Tch.
Sesshoumaru’s gaze remained on the road but here he could sense the irritation that ebbed from his passenger on his left. There were a plethora of things that could be possibly wrong with her. This trip, her current situation and her new life.
But not everything was all bad, was it? They saved her from potentially living her life on the streets. And she was going to the university she dreamed to go to ever since high school. That and most of her friends would be attending that same one so why did she feel so miserable right now?
Sesshoumaru could never truly understand her which is what made her human. And she could never really understand him because he was youkai.
Were humans and youkai truly unable to live together peacefully?
It was sad, really. She actually liked Sesshoumaru, a whole lot. Sure, it was a bit difficult getting to know him at first since he was so forward and had a need to exert his authority but after a while, she noticed he was warming up to her slowly. If she had to take away all the bad things about him then maybe, just maybe… She could see herself having him as her boyfriend instead of Houjou.
A shame their relationship was nothing more than just family.
But did she really want more out of this?
And what about that Kagura woman? Kagome was sure she may have known Sesshoumaru much longer than herself, especially if she was youkai yet… He never once mentioned her name or spoke about her at all since Kagome had come to live with him.
And engagement that was only half done. Hah.
“If only I could somehow go back in time and undo everything. Undo all of what has happened and maybe I’ll be in a better living situation and out of this damn mess.”
Sesshoumaru heard her quiet voice within the car that interrupted the silence, sparing the girl a quick glance from the corner of his eyes. The tone she took was that of disappointment and wished to fix what had happened to her so far. Amber hues returned to the road ahead and calmly breathed in and out through his nostrils, his left hand slipping from the steering wheel to grip onto the gearshift, “An interesting idea yet handling with time could bring many consequences.”
He heard her huff out some air in exasperation, “Couldn’t be any more worse than this.”
“On the contrary, I can think up of what could be worse than this should you alter time.”
Kagome blinked slowly and tilted her head to look at him as he kept his gaze on the road. “Really? Like what?” She was actually curious. What would be worse than this situation that she got herself into? A situation that somehow roped up Sesshoumaru along with it?
“I wouldn’t have had the pleasure in meeting you.”
Kagome’s eyes widened when she heard him say those words and could not believe he had just said that. She felt her heart skip a beat and blushed heavily even as she looked his way. His eyes still remained on the road, not even a crack in his mask and looked so poised. Why did he do that? Why would he say things to her that had her heart fluttering each time? He had to be doing that on purpose, right?
Kagome turned her head away from him again, eyes gazing outside. She was pushing those thoughts and possible answers to her questions out from her mind as she placed her focus elsewhere.
“But you have Kagura. There’s no need for me to be in your life.”
And there was that jealousy rearing its ugly ahead again. Ugh. That emotion made her feel so sick.
“I have no need for a woman who only sees me as a potential increase to her business. All the wench cares about is money.” And she was Naraku’s cousin. That alone was a big no-no. Sesshoumaru had no inclination in getting anywhere near that woman.
Kagome did remember hearing and seeing him express so much distaste for that woman earlier while at the committee building yet she sounded so confident that she would have Sesshoumaru. Kagome didn’t want to care about it but yet she just couldn’t stand the image of Sesshoumaru with Kagura. It made her sick to her stomach.
But did he really find meeting her pleasant? It made her happy to hear from him though, a soft smile spreading on her lips. Her head turned just slightly, eyeing his hand that was rested upon the gearshift and wondered if she should do that again. He was driving and she had no intention of having him lose focus but he was driving at a calmer speed. It was evident they would arrive home in about fifteen minutes or so.
Kagome right hand would raise and slowly she’d reach for his left that rested upon the gear switch. It would hover over his own some inches above but hadn’t rested her palm upon him. She was hesitant. Eventually she’d decide to pull her hand away but Sesshoumaru’s hand captured her own before she got far. His warm, lengthy fingers wrapped around hers and her eyes nearly widened but again her smile would spread wide upon her lips, letting her fingers grasp his own in return.
Soon their hands joined together and their fingers would spread to intertwine with one another, that same feeling returning to her that day she rode in the limousine with her big brother. His hand felt so nice, so smooth and so warm. It made her feel giddy inside.
It was a shame she had met Sesshoumaru under these whacky circumstances but she would have to agree with him as well. If time was altered in anyway, she would have possibly never had the chance in meeting with Sesshoumaru and a part of her never wanted that to happen.
Her life didn’t seem so bad as long as she had Sesshoumaru with her. They were words she wished to tell him but did not have the courage to let him know. Not just yet.
Maybe one day she will and when she does, she would be the happiest girl in the world once Sesshoumaru wholeheartedly agreed with her.
