Chapter 3
Floods of tears and of pain.

Kagome just sort of looked at him... his eyes slightly open, filled with love and lust and a faint hint of bliss. She remembered the time she had accidentally stumbled in on Inuyasha bathing in the river. His perfect form under the waterfall. The water falling over his muscles. The way he would flex his muscles, it looked as if he was sore. They had just fought a tiger demon, considering how weak it was, it still put Inuyasha in an utter state of tiredness. He was so worn out that he didn't even sense her, thank god. She heard him humming a tune. She didn't recognize the tune, but all the same, it lulled her. She wondered if it was a song his mother used to sing to him. She started humming along with him to the best of her ability.

Inuyasha was just watching Kagome, her eyes were glossed over and she was humming a tune. He recognized it he didn't know Kagome knew it too. It was a song his mother used to sing to him on thundery nights when he was little he was scared of thunderstorms, but now he wasn't. He almost challenged them some times, seeing if he could beat the rain before it hit him, he usually lost.

Then Kagome remembered a time that Inuyasha had accidentally stumbled upon her in the hot springs, it was a misty night and the steam the hot spring emitted wasn't helping either. She felt a slight shift in the water and thought it was just something coming to get a drink from the spring until they realized it was a hot spring and went to go find another source of water, cold water. Just as she was about to lie back and relax, she felt ripples coming from the other end. She didn't know who or what it was but she didn't like it. She and Inuyasha have been travelling to find a jewel shard that rumored to be hidden in the south-western mountains. So they had started travelling and decided to stop for the night. Inuyasha gathered fire wood and fish for dinner. Kagome cooked the fish and boiled some water for Inuyasha's Ramen. They ate in silence until Inuyasha said something she didn't quite catch what he said, but she thought he said that she should get some rest, it was going to be a long day tomorrow, but he had said it through a mouth full of noodles so it was sort of slurred.

When Inuyasha was done his food, he decided to go to the river to refill the water containers, and Kagome said she would clean up the mess. As Inuyasha was gone, she started cleaning up and noticed a mist, they were getting further into the mountains, so she guessed that the left over water's dew was being emitted from the mountains, and the clouds surrounding them, almost creating a very dark white fog. She could hardly see the other trees on the other side of the camp, which was about 7 ft. from where they were.
When she was done cleaning up she decided to go looking for Inuyasha, he wasn't that far so she thought she could see him if she looked just a little. As she was looking she stumbled upon a pool of warm water, as she moved further he foot became submerged with in a hot spring. She sort of got scared and excited a bit, she didn't realize there was a hot springs here. She could take a bath now, just a quick one, or else Inuyasha would come looking for her...

Now she remembered Inuyasha had gone to find her and smelled her here, and decided to look for her, he could just call out. Oh god... she was naked, she totally forgot she was naked, now what was she going to do. She didn't know if it was Inuyasha or some demon, looking for dinner. She just sort of stayed still as the dark shape came closer. A hand reached out for her, she realized they had claws on them, so she started getting a little more scared of it being a demon, even though Inuyasha had a clawed hand. Its hand reached out and touched her left shoulder.

What ever it was that was in the mist moved closer and embraced Kagome. She realized it was Inuyasha. His masculine scent lulled her from the already humid temperature. She realized he had taken off his inner and outer Kimono but still had his Hakama on; she didn't know whether to be disappointed or relieved. Inuyasha's aura seemed to fray at each end. As he held her, his aura calm down a little bit. She couldn't see his expression. She finally hit reality really hard. Kagome felt something brushing her thigh she didn't know if it was a piece of wood, or Inuyasha's... Inuyasha's... 'Oh my god, i-is Inuyasha... turned on???....’ she silently thought to her self. She was slightly stunned about his state of undress and he was so close to her. She started blushing and tried to turn away since they weren't supposed to be like this especially since Inuyasha still had Kikyou.

Inuyasha realized she had a dreamy look that glazed her eyes like she was looking at nothing unparticular. She had been just been standing there staring straight ahead. He wondered what she was looking at so he followed her gaze. It was merely another part of her pink wall. What was so important about that? He looked back at her then back at the wall... and repeated it about 3 more times until... "Kagome snap out of it!" He snapped his fingers to emphasize his point. Kagome's eyes just fluttered back to life

"What do you want you baka?" Inuyasha just sort of did a double take, and then regained his courage.

"What the hell were you thinking of?" He remembered she was slightly humming to herself “Or, should I say about whom?" Kagome was taken aback at this. How did he know she was day-dreaming about him? Could he smell her arousal?

"What are you talking about? I wasn't thinking of anybody!"

"No one at all...?" Inuyasha raised his eyebrow
"... Well... maybe... someone..." Inuyasha's ears perked up at this. Kagome noticed his sudden attention.

"Oh-yea, and who may that be? Let me guess. Kouga or Hojo. Maybe that other guy. Akitaki-Hojo... Present Hojo's ancestor?" He mumbled a few choice curse words. Yes he was jealous.

"Nooo... not quite..." she continued humming that tune.

“What do ya mean, 'no not quite'? You mean there's other men too? Oh my god Kagome just how many men are in love with you? Kouga, Hojo, Akitaki-Hojo... that makes 3.... Plus m-m-I mean ummm.... ah ha... ummm... ya 3" Kagome just sort of looked at him. He slowly slid his arms around her but didn't fully embrace her.

"And whose name starts with a 'M' hmmm...? Well? If I didn't know better I would have thought you were going to say, yourself, but that would be ludicrous. Why would you, of all people have feelings for me, let alone love me? Besides...” she just sort of averted her eyes from him. "You have... Kikyou..." He then dropped his arms from her and backed away he had a sad look that veiled his eyes. She knew she must have hurt him.

She remembered she was naked, and went to the bathroom to change. Inuyasha could sense her sad aura. He knew it was because of him. He always managed to fuck these things up. Why couldn't he just grow a back-bone and tell her he loved her or at least cared for her? He wanted to but he was afraid of reject. He knew he wasn't good enough for her, but someday, somehow... maybe he would be more than just a worthless hanyou. Maybe one day he would be worthy of her love, of her joy, but now all he deserved was dirt... literally, Kikyou.

"Oh Kikyou, what am I going to do with you?"

He knew he had to tell her soon about how he felt and about how he felt about Kagome. But first he would avenge her and kill Naraku. Then after Naraku was dead and Kikyou didn't have her claim on Inuyasha anymore he would be free to tell Kagome about him and his feelings from her maybe they would even become a couple but he had to destroy Naraku first. If he told Kagome about his feelings for her then she would be vulnerable to Naraku and he would probably harm her just to get to him. He had to act fast other wise he may lose Kagome, not that he already was hers to begin with but soon, very soon.

Kagome had finished drying her hair and putting on her clothes. She put on a nice baby blue dress, with a yellow over jacket. She walked in her room, just when Inuyasha was talking to himself. He mumbled a few words, and then he got up and headed towards the window, and was going to jump out when he said something that made Kagome's heart jump in her throat. "Kagome, I'm sorry... I have to go avenge Kikyou and tell her about, about us... goodbye" Kagome rushed into the room, but he was already gone. She looked out the window and saw the shrine door closing and knew he must have known she was there and chose not to go back, or didn't care.

She fell back on her bed. "Tell Kikyou about whom, about her and Inuyasha, or myself and Inuyasha?" she wondered out loud. She knew she had hurt him when she had slapped him and called him a pervert. Then she had slapped him again, for leaning in on her. But the worst part was when she had reminded him of his lost love. She knew that was cruel, considering their current situation. She was naked and he was holding her, Her... he was holding her and she had to ruin it by saying he had Kikyou, when in fact he wasn't even holding her. Her... Kikyou. He said he was going to see Kikyou. 'Does that mean he's going to stay with Kikyou, and never come back?' She knew it was bound to happen one day but she didn't think it would happen this fast, him leaving her...

Kagome decided she would go after him tomorrow morning... right now, she was really tired. Though she was slightly afraid if she didn't go now to find Inuyasha he would be gone when she got there. Like she cared about where that stupid jerk went. It wasn't her concern if he went to go see Kikyou. Or was it...? After all he was holding her slightly different today. All the other times he had been holding her it was either when he was trying to get her out of the way, or if he was becoming all territorial over her again. Though she didn't mind the attention. All those times he had held her like he felt it was his duty to protect her from robbers, and demons, and from perverted men, looking for a wife. He held her like she was his property, like he owned her.

But when he held her that night, he held her like he was in love with her, like all of it was for his enjoyment of holding her; like he had always wanted to do this... hold her... He then looked at her with such love, and she had to go and blow it up in his face. "Aren't I nice?" She thought aloud once again. She knew she had to go apologize to him sooner or later. She decided she would go shopping for some new clothes and some treats for Shippo and of course, Ramen for yours truly, Inuyasha...


When Inuyasha arrived in the feudal era, he smelled smoke coming from the village, Kaede's village. He knew he had to go see what was wrong, so he leapt off. When he arrived a few huts were caught on fire, and some of the village men were helping to put it out. He knew they would never be able to do it alone. So he fetched some water from the stream and created a small river connecting from the lake to the field’s crop water. There he moved two rocks together so the water would gush from the cracks in the boulders. He finally adjusted it when Shippo and Kilala came bounding in.

They looked at what Inuyasha was doing and tried to help but he pushed them away, he said that if they tried to help the water pressure would blow them away, since they were too small. Then Kilala transformed into her big kitty form and helped Inuyasha push the boulder into place. Shippo just stared in aw, as the water gushed out from the cracks, and studied Inuyasha's feet as they were sliding in the mud the water created.

Shippo knew if he didn't help him, Inuyasha would slip and all this work would be for nothing. So... he got in front of the hanyou's foot, and transformed into Inuyasha, accept the copy had red hair, and a tail. He also had half of Inuyasha's power too so he stood beside the hanyou and held his feet in place. Inuyasha sort of looked down but then looked straight and realized it was Shippo with the scent and the red hair. He gave a smile, and that was enough for the small kitsune to know he had done some good.

The fire was put out and every body thanked him and Shippo and Kilala. Sango came running over to where Inuyasha was standing. She had tears in her eyes, he wondered what was wrong. "Sango-chan... what's wrong?" She just looked up at him with surprise in her eyes, and then she suddenly fell to the ground on her hands and knees.

"Inuyasha..." she sniffed a little bit and wiped her eyes from the tears. Miroku was helping in the fire and a beam fell on him, Kaede wishes to speak with you will you go to her?" She looked at him hope in her eyes. They seemed to be losing their color in them. Inuyasha sort of stumbled at her sudden emotion. He had never seen Sango so worried about, Miroku... then again she did 'love' the lecher, according to Kagome anyways. He responded.

"Take me to him and old Kaede." Sango just stood and took his hand and he was slightly taken aback at her sudden forwardness. He realized it must be bad. Sango continued to tighten her grip. He forgot Sango had such a strong grip. He was used to the delicate touch and caress of Kagome. 'Kagome... I'm sorry I had to leave you...But I have to clear up with Kikyou that I don't, that I don't...'

"Inuyasha...?" Sango slightly pulled on his kimono sleeve; she was looking at him funny.

"What is it Sango?" He asked slightly bemused.

"Are you okay, you look sort of spaced out like your thinking about something, or someone...?" she slightly elbowed him in the side, now he was really freaked. He may only be half human, but he knew when a girl was flirting with him, and Sango was flirting... but, why with him...?

"Yeah I'm fine, let's go see how Miroku is doing okay?" he moved along quicker.

"Sure, okay..." she looked to the ground almost as if she was sad they were going to see Miroku... weird. When they arrived at Kaede's hut they could hear screaming coming from inside the hut. There was one of the villagers standing in front of the door and was blocking their way.

"What is the meaning of this?" Inuyasha asked in a gruff tone, he recognized the man. He was slender built but had a round tummy and his hair was an unmistakable golden blonde, very strange for these parts of Japan. The man eyed the hanyou carefully as if he didn't trust him. He had every right to, because if he didn't move any time soon Inuyasha was going to throw him out of the way. The village man replied

"No one is allowed in, it is Lady Kaede's wishes that she is not disturbed during the purification." he stated matter of fact.

"Purification?" Inuyasha answered in a questioning voice.

"Yes, it seems that the fire demons that set our village on fire also seemed to have placed curses upon our huts to make them fall down, and if a human were to touch any of the beams, even by accident then he or she would be cursed. That is why Lady Kaede is requesting that she be left alone.

"Oh..." Inuyasha replied stupidly, though he quite understood. Miroku was always talking about these kinds of curses that elemental demons left in their place. In this case it was the elemental demons of FIRE. They were naturally harmless creatures unless they felt threatened or if there was a dying forest, they would just burn it down and get the demons of life to bring it back, for if there was any roots of old dead rotting trees left the new trees to be created wouldn't have enough room to grow... according to Miroku anyways, he wondered what had made them go after their village, did someone bother them, he didn't even know his forest contained that many elemental demons of Fire, maybe they had multiplied... somehow, or maybe... something, or someone... set them loose. He would get to the bottom of this after they helped Miroku.

"May we please see him when Lady Kaede is done with the purification?" Sango finally spoke up.

"I don't know, I doubt Lady Kaede will allow any one in after for a while" the guard replied.

"But I am his fiancé..." Sango added in, the guard just stared.

"Well then, if that is the case than I can allow you in, but not the half-demon he is not authorized beyond this point, nor does he have any business with the monk"

"I'm sure Miroku would want to see me, I'm his friend."

"Well I'm his friend too and I'm not allowed in"

"Have you saved his life from demons, and monsters you could barely even imagine? Have you talked to him about personal things only two men can talk about, that trust each other greatly? Well I know I sure as damn well have so you better let both of us in after the purification is completed, got it!?" The hanyou yelled, the man just faltered as if he had just been slapped in the face.

"Fine then but you will have to talk to Lady Kaede before upon entering."

"I am his bes-"

"That is the ONLY WAY, I am letting you enter, do you understand me half breed?"

"Why I aught--" Sango patted his back in reassurance "Inuyasha... I think it's better if we listen to him okay, let’s go back and help the others with rebuilding the huts." Sango lead Inuyasha away from the hut towards the other damaged huts.

"Sis! Have you seen Buyo around?!"

"No Sota I haven't seen Buyo anywhere, actually I haven't seen Buyo for a couple of days. I wonder where he's run off to." Kagome pondered the question for a moment when all of a sudden Kagome heard a scratchy noise coming from under the house. When she bent under to check it out she felt someone's hands on both sides of her hips.

"Oh-oh my gosh--- it's only you." Kagome sounded alarmed but seemed to calm down a bit. Standing right in front of her was an 18 year old boy in black khaki's and a white shirt and tie, sort of like a uniform, only more... formal attire.

"How are you feeling now a-days Miss. Higurashi, I heard that you had a throat illness preventing you from attending any classes since it was so bad, Meningococcal wasn't it?" The young man smiled at her with such passion.

"Oh yeah I'm feeling so much better now, what are you doing around these parts?"

"Oh I thought maybe some throat lozenges may help a little bit, but since you're better you can save them for another time, pray you don't get ill again." though she knew deep down she would have to be 'ill' again in order to return back to the feudal era. The Feudal Era... she wondered how Inuyasha was doing and wondered if he had already gone to see Kikyou. 'Now isn't the time to be thinking about Inuyasha and HER...' Kagome slowly took the lozenges from the boy.

"Miss. Higurashi... I was wondering if maybe well- I mean if you're not doing anything- would you go out with me on Saturday." Kagome eyed the young boy warningly. She didn't know if she should because it might give him false hopes, hopes he should never have to have shattered, but she couldn't reject him so...

"Alright I'll go with you, what did you have in mind?"

"Oh, there is a Spring Festival happening in Tokyo's main Park, would you like to go, say around 6:00p.m.?"

"Sure I'd love to go with you, oh... but promise me you'll win me a stuffed elephant."

"Alright you've got yourself a deal see you then sayonara Miss. Higurashi" and the boy turned and went down the steps to where his bike was locked up and started heading home.

'Oh Kagome what have you gotten yourself into this time... Inuyasha's going to be furious at me if he every finds out. Wait... he's gone to see Kikyou, so I have EVERY right to go out with whom ever I want to... right?' She couldn't help but feel the guilt swell up inside her like she was letting Inuyasha down, wasn't what she was going to do no better than what the hanyou did? And besides... it's not as if Kagome had ever had a date with someone she really liked. Well now she could have that chance and not think about Inuyasha the whole time, just enjoy herself.
