She was breathing heavily. The chase had been long and through a heavily wooded area, but finally she had him in her grasp, the one who had killed her family and friends. He had changed her life forever in one gruesome moment.

“Stop right there. You’re not getting away this time,” she yelled throwing the Hiraikotsu and barring his escape route. She attacked swiftly, knocking him down and kicking his weapon out of reach.

Bending over her captive, Sango held him pinned to the ground with one hand on his shoulder and her blade at his throat. He lay silently, unmoving; his face showing no emotion. Tears dripped from her eyes and splashed onto his face. He didn’t flinch or even struggle to get free.

“Kohaku,” she called his name, hoping for some spark of recognition in his soulless eyes. Please remember me! I don’t want to do this!

“This is it, Kohaku,” she whispered softly. “I have to kill you and then myself. It’s the only way to free you from Naraku’s grasp. I won’t let him do this to you any longer. Her hand gripped the katana tightly as the tears streamed freely down her face, blurring her vision. “I’m going to go with you. You won’t have to be alone again.”

She raised the blade high into the air preparing to strike. I can’t do this! In the emptiness of his eyes, she could see her reflection. They mirrored the hollowness of her own soul. “I’m sorry, Kohaku.”
