Demires: The Love Of An Enemy
Eight: Inuyasha
I awake in the usual darkness to a human, but the usual bright night for me. I look around for Kagome, wondering where the hell she's gone to, and I find that she is not in the room.
The hunger I have for a human's blood is indescribable, yet, I can somehow control it. It will probably take all my strength to restrain myself from killing Kagome on the spot; even though I love her. Blood lust will do that to you, as much as I hate to admit it.
I creep silently to the door of the bedroom and peek my head out into the hallway, sniffing for any trace of Kagome's scent. There's some...but the faintest bit. It's hard to follow, but I know I'll find her.
After searching through several rooms and hallways, I find her in a corner, far away and deep in the home, and her scent is mixed with that of salt.
Her back is turned to me, and I see her shoulders draw up and let back down again, and I know she's crying.
But...why?
"Kagome?" I ask softly, and she quickly wipes her eyes, turning to me. She tries to hide her face by letting her hair fall over her eyes, but I still know she's been crying.
"Hai?" she responds, attempting to hide the shaking in her voice.
"Why are you still crying?" Wrong question. I know the answer to that one. Thing is, there's a million others I don't have answers to.
She just shakes her head, and I know she doesn't want to talk. I walk closer, sit down next to her, and pull her into my arms. Surprisingly, Kagome snuggles into my chest, clutching my shirt in a tight grip, as if she's going to be taken away, and sighs heavily.
"Inuyasha...I know what I have to do," she whispers, her voice is so quiet only I can hear her.
"What?" I ask, not fully understanding what she means.
"I...I want to -" her sentence is cut off by a loud sound of pain.
"Shit," I say. "Can we talk later?"
"Hai," she says and nods. "You're friend is more important now." And with that, she runs to the room, with me slowly following behind.

Kagome says the injection has taken quite a toll on my friend. Damn it all. Maybe we should just give up.
But when I suggested that to her, she nearly killed me. Leave it to me to screw it up.
My friend has gotten weaker than she apparently thought he would, but it's also working faster than she expected. It's and all-out win or lose situation.
And now, the only thing I can hear is the soft sound of Kagome's even breathing and the obnoxious chirping of the night's crickets.
Yes, we are once again outside.
She's in my arms again, most likely looking for warmth, and I'm standing here glad to give it to her. There are many stars in the sky, just as there were the last night we spent together. I run my fingers through her ebony hair, waiting for her to break the silence and finish telling me what she had begun to tell me earlier.
Finally, after a too-long moment of nearly dead silence, she takes a deep breath and looks up at me, my eyes finding hers.
"Inuyasha...I..." she closes her eyes and turns her head away, as if ashamed.
"Kagome, what's the problem? What do you need to tell me?" I ask, eager to know what she has to say.
"I feel horrible about what I'm about to say..." she says softly.
"Why?"
"Because...after I said all those bad things to you about killing people...and now...now, I..." her voice descends in volume as she gets to the end of her struggled statement, and I can tell she's losing her words.
"Kagome..." I whisper, fearing what's going to come out of her mouth next. She's going to tell me she wants me to turn her.
"I want to be with you bad enough that...that...I want you to...to...t-turn me, Inuyasha. Please..." Her voice is merely a whisper; it's shaking as she speaks.
"Kagome, I want it too...but please, don't make me kill you so I can be happy..."
She shouldn't have to die and give up her mortal life for me. No. She can't. I won't let her.
"Inuyasha, it's not just for you!" she says, her head snapping up to stare me in the eyes. "I want it, too! You think I can go on completely knowing that I can never be with you?" She's nearly shouting now, and I can tell she's somewhat hurt; torn between her options.
"Kagome...I don't want you to hurt anymore," I say. I can't think of anything else to say to her.
"Then you'll turn me and get it over with," she says firmly, turning around in my arms to face me. She runs her hand along my cheek and smiles at me through her tears. "Please, Inuyasha...please."
I want her to be happy.
I really do.
And if it's the only thing I can do...
"You do know that once I do this, there's no turning back? Nothing can change it after this."
She nods and holds my eyes to hers. "I want you to. I promise." She lets her trench coat slide off her arms and fall to the ground, shivering at the cold. She also pulls off her sweatshirt, until she's only in a thin fabric tank top, revealing her bare neck and shoulders. I can see the gooseflesh rise on her skin. It pains me somewhat to know that she'll be even colder when I kill her.
"Are you sure?" I ask, uneasy.
She nods and takes a deep breath. "I'm ready," she whispers, a tear falling down from her chocolate eyes. She's scared. I can smell her fear.
I kiss her gently, savoring the feel of her warm lips against mine, and she kisses back with all the passion I know she has in her.
I pull away from the kiss, and move my mouth down to the artery in her neck. I lick the flesh there to sooth her; to help her stop shivering, and I caress her back with my hands. When I feel that she's relaxed in my arms, I move one hand to the back of her neck, pressing her neck to me as I sink my fangs into her soft skin.
She whimpers a bit from the pain, and I run my other hand through her hair. It will be over soon, it will be over soon, I'm thinking. Please don't be so terrified...it will be over soon.
Her blood is thick and sweet; better than I imagined it to taste. It flows almost freely into my mouth, and I drink, sending the delicious liquid sliding down my throat, rejuvenating my whole being. I can feel myself getting warmer, and I can feel Kagome getting colder, and I know that her death is almost near.
I can see a tear rolling down her neck.
Please don't cry. It will be over soon.
I feel her blood getting thinner, and I know she's almost dead. I drink as much as I can, savoring the taste that is for sure Kagome; only Kagome.
I pull away, just long enough for me to look into her dying eyes; a sight so horrifying that it makes me myself want to scream. I quickly pull a small knife out of my pocket and slit my wrist, deep enough for my ice cold blood to fall.
Bringing my wrist to her lips, I whisper, "Drink."
Please don't cry. It will be over soon. Please don't be so terrified; it will all be over soon.
It will all be over soon.
I promise.
