There was a slight information mistake in the previous chapter, as I wrote in the author's notes chapter 9 which is this chapter, will be `Off Days'… Though I got the chapters slightly mixed up. Anyways… this chapter is supposed to be `RIN'S SECRET'. Sorry mina for the wrong information. `Off days' will be after this chapter instead.

Chapter 9: Rin's Secret

Everyone paced outside the surgery room, impatiently wondering whether Rin could make it through this terrible ordeal. After what seemed like hours, Eri the head nurse finally came out of the room. Everyone rushed towards her.

Sesshoumaru leaned against the far wall, in a shadowy corner away from the room waiting. When he saw a female healer appeared from the room, his ears picked up their voices easily listening to their urgent voices.

"Is she alright?" Kagome asked.

"How is she getting on?" Sango asked.

"She lost so much blood!!!" Bankotsu said. "There will be definitely blood lost…"

"Will she survive?" Jakotsu asked.

"Calm down everyone." Eri raised her hands up in front of her backing slightly away from all of them. "Dr. Suikotsu had finally gotten that metal out of her waist and stitched up her wound. As for the blood lost, Dr. Suikotsu wanted to know why Rin had such a rare blood type which he had never seen before. I have to go see Kaede-sama to ask for permission to reveal Rin's blood DNA…"

Kagome and Sango paled slightly and nodded while Eri walked away.

"What did she mean by Rin has a rare blood type?" Bankotsu rounded on Kagome and Sango.

Kagome and Sango quickly turned away from him and was about to walk away but Jakotsu stopped them. His hands crossed in front of him, one of his eyebrows raised as he stared down at both uneasy girls.

"You know, I think you all owe us an explanation, girls." Jakotsu said.

"We can't tell you," Kagome said uneasily. "I'm sorry it is our policy to keep Rin's type a secret."

"Rin's type?" Bankotsu raised his eyebrows. "Explain…"

"I will do the explaining, Bankotsu-san."

Everyone wheeled around to see Kaede walking up the corridor with Eri behind her looking uncomfortable.

"Kaede-sama!!!!" Kagome and Sango exclaimed together.

"For now, please let's concentrate on Rin's condition first." Kaede said calmly. "I will explain later, Bankotsu-san, Jakotsu-san."

They nodded in agreement and let Kaede and Eri passed to go into the surgery room.

Sesshoumaru frowned at their conversation. Why was Rin's blood type so rare? And why is it kept a secret? Was there something about his Rin that might endanger her? He didn't like the sound of it. Without any effort, he picked up the voices inside the surgery room and listened to their conversation.

"Kaede-sama, if we do not supply Rin-sama with the blood she lacks, she may not be able to make it through the night." Dr. Suikotsu said anxiously. "Why is Rin's blood so rare? I had never even seen of before."

"It is because there were only two people in the universe that have this blood type." Kaede said. "One is Rin's mother and the other is herself."

"Rin's mother?"

"Unfortunately Rin's mother died after giving birth to her. So there is no way to find someone else that will be able to give Rin the blood she lacks."

"What kind of blood is this Kaede?" Dr. Suikotsu frowned asking her softly.

"The name of this blood is called Para Para Thailidomy, it cannot mix with any other blood type but its own."

"What about Rin's father?" Dr. Suikotsu asked slightly confused. "I am sure she will have her blood combined with her father's as well…"

"Rin has no father…" Kaede replied.

"What?"

"Rin is a miracle baby…" Kaede answered slowly. "Rin's mother always wanted a baby of her own but like I said her blood DNA cannot be combined. There will be no way another male could give her the baby so…"

"A miracle baby? You mean a test tube baby? Whose spermatozoa did she use then? If no other DNA can be mix with this blood type? That wouldn't work either."

Kaede sighed with defeat.

"This may sound preposterous," Kaede continued. "Rin's mother was the protector of Shikon No Tama. For many years youkai and other humans alive had tried to use its powers for evil doings and Rin's mother had fought against them. Like I had said earlier, Rin's mother always wanted a child. It was her heart wish to have a baby. One day, Rin just appeared in her womb. She told me the night before she dreamt a bright pink light which shaped of a huge ball entered her stomach. Our conclusion was the power of Shikon No Tama had produced a baby in her womb. That was almost seventeen years ago, which this miracle happened."

Dr. Suikotsu raised an eyebrow at the ridiculous tale.

"It sounded silly yes, but I can tell you that Rin's mother was definitely still a virgin when she was pregnant with Rin."

"This are the files which the older nurse had recorded Dr. Suikotsu." Eri passed the file to him. "There are all check ups Rin's mother went through. We kept it as a secret because we didn't want Rin to become an experiment object to the government, The Empire of the Sun. They would find Rin an interesting experimental being."

"Let's leave to faith whether Rin will survive tonight's ordeal." Kaede said with defeat. "She had been the best combatant since her mother's death."

Sesshoumaru was dumbfounded at Kaede's explanation. Rin had no father and was produced by the sheer crystal ball call Shikon No Tama? He didn't understand. When he heard that the rest of them left the place. He left his shadowy place and headed for the door where Rin lay inside the room. Using a metal card Kaede had given him he placed it on the key panel like he was thought to do, frowning at the inconvenience on opening a simple door. He still preferred the old way.

Eri turned to see who entered the medical room and nearly paled to see the tall Demon Lord standing by the door. She gulped at his presence.

"Ses… Sesshoumaru-sama…" Eri stammered slightly. "But you aren't supposed to come in here. Rin-chan cannot be disturbed."

"I want to see her." He replied in cold emotionless voice which made all Eri's hair stand on end.

He never take his eyes off Rin since he walked in as he watched Rin's ghostly pale face as she lay in a white bed with wires contacted to her body.

"Well… I…" Eri sigh with defeat. "Why don't you stay here to accompany her…?"

For the first time Sesshoumaru took notice of someone else in the ship. He looked at Eri's kind and friendly face. She was actually smiling at him unlike those he always met who stare and glare at him.

"I had heard how Rin tried to safe your life." Eri said after a short pause. "I think Rin cares very much about you, but she never wanted to show it. I will be at my office. If there is anything wrong with Rin if the alarm goes off or something, press this button on the wall."

Eri pointed to a red button next to Rin's bed.

"Dr. Suikotsu and I will come back to check on Rin again."

Sesshoumaru nodded telling her he understood.

"Oyasumi Sesshoumaru-sama." Eri said softly and retreat from the room.

Sesshoumaru watched her leave and turned back to Rin. He approached her slowly and sat down on a chair next to her bed. Slowly he took her hand in his and raised it to his face.

"Rin if you can hear me, please wake up."

Rin's dream when she was in the coma…

Rin lay face down on some soft dewy place as she slowly opened her eyes. She sat up slowly and realized that she was surrounded by flowers on a hill top. The sky was blue and birds flew in the sky, butterflies flew around her and some land on the colourful flowers around her. She blinked. She had seen pictures of this kind of places before in books though it no longer exited on Earth.

"But I can't be on Earth…" Rin whispered getting up to a sitting position and realized she was wearing the same weird old clothes again when she first had the weird dream. "Am I in a dream…? Or am I dead?"

"Midoriko," Rin heard someone called suddenly.

She turned towards the direction and frowned to see a Youkai coming towards her. Quickly she stood up watching him cautiously. He had white slivery hair with highlighted streaks of gold on it and on the side of both his eyes looked like the shape of wings in light shinny gold. She relaxed slightly when she saw him smiling gently at her.

That is odd… Rin thought.

"Ukaran…" Rin heard herself say in a voice she had never heard before. "You shouldn't come to the village to see me, if anyone sees us we will be in trouble. Especially you."

"I risk it." Ukaran said flashing her, a charming smile. He reminded Rin so much like Sesshoumaru but one different thing was Sesshoumaru never smiled. "I hadn't seen you for a long time."

He closed their distance and embraced her.

WHAT???? Rin's mind screamed. What the hell is going on here????

Suddenly Ukaran vanished and Rin was standing all alone again. She looked down and saw the flowers disappeared and the sky darken reminding how it looked like on Earth right now. Her cloth changed as well back to her normal uniform at Eternal. Rin whirled around looking anxiously all around her.

If she was in a dream she wanted to wake up!!!!

"Rin of Eternal."

Rin wheeled towards the voice and saw a female human wearing the old weird clothing she was wearing early standing a few feet from her. The smoke around the place shield the female human's appearance from Rin. She narrowed her eyes trying to see who the person was.

"Please show yourself!!!" Rin called out. "Who are you?"

"My name is Midoriko…" The person said advancing towards her until Rin saw her face. "I use to stay in this village which was destroyed by youkai."

Rin looked around and saw an image of wooden houses burning down and people running around frightened when they got slaughtered without mercy by youkai. Rin turned back to Midoriko with anxious face. Midoriko looked back at Rin with sad eyes.

"I thought it would make this war end." She whispered miserably. "I thought it would end the killing."

Rin inclined her head wondering what Midoriko was talking about.

"I bestow this task to you Rin." Midoriko said as she started to fade. "Save Earth and save the human and the youkai life!!!!"

"What do you mean Midoriko-san!!!?" Rin cried reaching out towards her as she disappeared into thin air. "Wait!!!! Who are you? What do you what from me?"

End of Rin's dream.

Rin woke up with a jolt and felt every part of her body ached. She winced and tried to focus around the blurry surrounding.

"Rin…" She heard a familiar voice.

She turned towards it and realized someone was holding her hand. She blinked once, twice and again slowly gaining back her focus. White slivery hair came to her view first then a beautiful flawless face with two red stripes adorned on each cheeks and a blue crescent moon on his forehead.

"Sess…" Rin whispered with a smile. "Sesshoumaru… what are you doing here?"

"Hush now, you need to rest."

"Why does every part of my body hurts?" Rin asked trying to see but Sesshoumaru placed a gentle hand on her forehead to keep her down. "What are you doing?"

"Try not to move, you may injure yourself more."

"I need to get back to work…"

"You need to get your health back, Rin."

"Can you stay here with me?" Rin closed her eyes again. "I'm scared…"

"I will be here always."

Sesshoumaru watched Rin goes back to sleep and slowly pulled down the blanket, gently lift the gown she was wearing to look at her wounds. He frowned slightly. No wonder she say it hurts so badly. The gashes on her legs and the burn marks around her left arm and shoulder across her chest were very deep.

Sesshoumaru leaned down trying his best to push away his lust as he run his tongue over her wounds. He decided to heal her himself.

"It is a miracle how her wounds healed." Dr. Suikotsu said as he checked Rin the other day. "Not a single scar left and not a single burn mark left on her skin. What happened here last night Eri…?"

"Well, I don't know…" Eri stammered slightly not wanting to tell Dr. Suikotsu that she had left Sesshoumaru here alone with Rin. She had a feeling that it had something to do with him.

"What is wrong Dr. Suikotsu?" Rin asked sitting up, happy that all the pain she felt last night was gone.

"You still have to stay in bed." Dr. Suikotsu said sternly. "You still need the rest your body is lacking. Besides all the blood lost, it will take time for the cells to regenerate."

Rin frowned when she was pushed back on the bed.

"But I feel fine!!!!" Rin protested.

"Nope, I am going to Kaede-sama telling her that you will be off duty for a week."

"A WEEK???" Rin cried sitting up again. "I can't…"

"Lay down!!!!" Dr. Suikotsu pushed her back again gently. "Now rest."

"The more I rest the more sick I will become…" Rin frowned.

Eri smiled and chuckled. To be truthful she had never seen Rin able to stay put for long. Asking her to stay in bed for a week will be like a nightmare for her.

The next chapter will be `Off Days'. It will the days when Rin has to stay in bed. Will she be able to bare with especially she was an energetic girl? Will Sesshoumaru come to visit her all the time? And if anyone is curious, Rin's blood type does not exist. I made that up!!!
