InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Demon Song ❯ Pancakes and Reunions ( Chapter 9 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Previously in chapter 8:

"Well I'll leave you two alone, you seemed to be enjoying yourselves!" Laughing, Mrs. H dumped Kagome's newly washed school uniform and much to her Kagome's dismay, a very lacy unmentionable on her bed before departing.

Kagome's face turned an even brighter shade of maroon, "Mom!" Inu Yasha looked at her inquisitively, "what is this?" He asked holding up the lacy thing Kagome's mom had left on her bed.

"GET YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF MY FUCKING BRA!!!"

Chapter 9:

AN:

Okay, I'm very depressed. I am all alone since Aurora_thorn has gone to San Francisco and abandoned me. I have been getting one email a day when I usually get about thirty, and my favorite author (besides Aurora_thorn of course) has left a cliffy at the end of one chapter and is almost done with the other story except for the epilogue which she has not finished yet, much to my displeasure. If ever you are in need of reading a really good fan fic, just look up Rozefire. She's a really great author and makes fantastic Inu/Kag stories. Oh yeah, I'm dedicating this story to Kitsune_bi for being so cool and letting her sis (and hopefully others *hint*hint*) know about my fic, even though I know it isn't the greatest. But hey, you can't blame a girl for trying!

~`_'~ (isn't it cute???)

After she had controlled her anger at Inu Yasha for handling her unmentionables had subsided, Kagome sat back down on her bed with a sigh. She was overcome with exhaustion. It felt like she hadn't slept for three days after all.

Rubbing her eyes to keep herself from fainting from fatigue, she peered keenly at the handsome teenage Hanyou with long silver hair and amber eyes that now inhabited her desk chair. He was toying with one of his ears, that didn't really look too doglike if you asked Kagome.

He had a dazed expression on his face, almost as if he wasn't really there in Kagome's room at all, but somewhere else… Kagome felt the sudden urge to touch him-to see if he was real, or if he was just an image conjured by her weary eyes.

She stretched a hand forward, almost grazing his silver hair, before she realized the pure stupidity of it, and dropped her hand. She scolded herself mentally at her own folly. Of course Inu Yasha was really there, hadn't she just felt his lips against hers only minutes before?

Remembering that kiss, Kagome contemplated what could have triggered it. Lust perhaps? Or maybe it was just a way to make Inu Yasha feel better about the whole Maeka thing… but no, Inu Yasha wouldn't do something like that; he wouldn't take advantage of Kagome to make himself feel better… would he?

"I think once your healed we should get back to the feudal era as soon as possible." Inu Yasha interrupted Kagome's thoughts. Kagome thought over what he had proposed. Go back to the Feudal Era already? But it was so soon!

Kagome sighed a little mournfully, "I guess you're right, I mean, what's the point of staying here?" Inu Yasha missed the look of sadness on her face. He hauled himself up with a groan. "We should get some sleep; I heard Gramps is making pancakes tomorrow, best to heal now `cus you're going to need all the strength you can get!"

Kagome shuddered. Grandpa making pancakes was not pretty. I hope he doesn't make them from scratch again, Kagome thought, l found more than pancake mix in mine last time, and I'm sure those weren't blueberries!

>.<;;

Shippo stayed awake later than the others thinking. Where was his mother now? She had told him she would be back days ago! And what happened when she went back to the big stone house just to find that he wasn't there? Shippo felt as though someone had made him swallow a large block of lead.

What if the woman with the strange magic did something to her? Where would he go? He was just a small child; no one would want to take him in, especially if he was a Kitsune. With Youkai wandering the land freely most people would feel that it was unsafe to protect any kind of demon. Shippo didn't blame them, he would do the same if he was in their position… but they didn't know how it felt! How it felt to be cast out by your own village because you were a Youkai; even if you had no reason to harm anyone…

!.!(I'm experimenting with faces: This one's a rabbit!)

The sorceress wore an expression that could melt stone. She was furious; the guards had let the little Kitsune get away! He would have help keep an eye on the Hanyou and his puny friends. He would have been perfect! A small innocent fox Youkai would never be suspected as a spy! And now her ingenious plans had been dashed aside because of her moronic sentries who managed to let the prisoner go and kill one of their number in the same night!

Her plans would just have to be adjusted. Beyond a spy, the sorceress had no use for a Kitsune boy. She cared not about him. His mother was dead so what was the point in keeping him? The only reason he was there in the first place was a way to get Maeka to work for her, a trade: she would work to save the boy's life. Let him go free, for all I care! He won't make it past a few nights, out in the wilderness, all alone. What harm could he be to me?

Smiling the lady of the stone house, the castle of Kimara, started to devise a new scheme. Something so horrendous that if it was not stopped, could rid the world of the one thing between her and the power to control it: a fifteen year old school girl by the name of Kagome Higurashi; the Chosen One.

"Uh, Mom?" Kagome asked a little frightened of what she was going to tell her mother next. Mrs. Higurashi looked up from her lumpy and deformed pancake. "Yes Kagome?"

"Uh, see, well, me and Inu Yasha-"

"Inu Yasha and I" Her mother corrected automatically.

"Yah, well, Inu Yasha and I are going back to the Feudal Era, now that I'm better and all." She said taking a deep breath and watching her mothers face.

Her mother frowned a little and looked from Kagome to Inu Yasha, and then back to Kagome again. Souta and Grandpa exchanged glances and then started giggling uncontrollably, doubling up with silent laughter.

Kagome shot them an infuriated look and then turned back to her mother, who still had an odd expression on her face. She looked a little inquisitive, yet she also had a small, secretive smile, which she was now trying to hide by eating a bite of Grandpa's pancakes.

She must have forgotten what she was eating because as soon as she swallowed her mouthful, she started to splutter. "I'll be right back! I just have to take a quick trip to the restroom!" Kagome waited for the sounds of the running water and gagging noises to stop before she turned around to watch her mother emerge from the bathroom looking pale.

"Honey, are you okay? You look pale. Here have a pancake; it might help you feel better!" Grandpa held out a rock hard pancake, offering it to Mrs. Higurashi. She shook her head a little and then sat down, where she immediately downed a large glass of orange juice to get the pancake taste out of her mouth.

"So…" Kagome prompted, "Can I go back?" She looked at her mother with the cutest face that her fifteen year old self could pull and actually get away with. Amazingly, it worked.

"Oh, fine, just be home before school starts or we'll think something's eaten you!" Mrs. Higurashi sighed, her gaze changed to look at Inu Yasha, "You better bring her back in one piece young man!" She told him in mock seriousness, "Or I might have to do something horrible to you!"

Inu Yasha smiled comically, "What would you do to me?"

"Make you fold Kagome's laundry." Mrs. Higurashi said menacingly.

"You wouldn't!" Now Inu Yasha looked a little worried: the bra incident was not something he'd like to happen again, at least not to him. Kagome didn't think it was very funny either, she was fuming silently. But Mrs. Higurashi, Grandpa and Souta just laughed. The two teenagers stomped up to Kagome's room feeling used.

"Fold Kagome's laundry…" *grumble*

Sango, Miroku, Kikyo and Myoga (Sesshomaru didn't give a hoot…) had a pleasant surprise when two very out of breath, but very happy, teenagers came bounding up yelling. Their faces were flushed and they were panting like dogs (no pun intended).

"Hey! HEY, you guys!" Inu Yasha called out at the retreating backs of his friends. Sango turned around so fast she almost knocked herself off her feet. Kirara gave a whiny little grumble at being disturbed, but when she saw Kagome she jumped off Sango's shoulder and bounded over to her demanding to be petted.

Everyone was in such a good mood that Inu Yasha even tried to be nice to Kirara. That didn't turn out too well, to put it lightly. As soon as Inu Yasha got near the small cat Youkai, it started to growl and hiss at him.

"Inu Yasha-I wouldn't do that if I were you!" Sango warned him. Inu Yasha just smiled and replied, "Oh come on Sango, she likes me!" Sango just shook her head, knowing Inu Yasha was going to get it.

Sure enough, as soon as Inu Yasha tried to pet Kirara she lashed out with her small, but lightning fast claws. Caught unawares, Inu Yasha yowled in pain as he groped his bleeding hand. He had tiny, deep claw marks gouged in the flesh on his hand.

"Damn cat…" He grumbled. Sango and Kagome laughed. Cats just didn't like Inu Yasha. Even Kagome's easy going cat, Buyo, couldn't stand him. But, he was a dog demon, so that might account for something… personally Kagome thought he was just one of those people who didn't know when enough was enough.

Inu Yasha and Kagome helped them cook dinner when they got back to camp, where they met Shippo. Naturally Kagome thought he was the cutest thing. It was instant bond, from that day forward Shippo followed Kagome like a small, motherless puppy.

Of course the companions explained to Inu Yasha and Kagome about Shippo's heritage. They were both a little shocked. Inu Yasha was the most shocked, probably because he was the closest to Maeka.

No one seemed to know what to do with Shippo. They knew that villagers wouldn't want to take in a Kitsune, they had enough problems. But what was the chance that they might find a family of Kitsunes that were willing to take in another child?

Then Kagome can up with a bright idea. "Why don't we just keep him with us? I mean he's strong, because he's a Youkai, and we know the truth about his mother. Shouldn't we keep him with us?"

All six agreed with Kagome except for Inu Yasha. He shook his head, frowning slightly. "Why should we? We don't know if he's a spy as well!" He looked around at everyone, they looked at his weirdly.

"What?"

"Inu Yasha, he's only seven. Just because he was the son of a spy doesn't mean he is one. Stop being so suspicious, relax." Sesshomaru said suddenly. He looked at his brother meaningfully. Inu Yasha sighed halfheartedly, "I guess you're right."

@.@ (he has glasses!)

The next day Kagome decided to talk to Shippo about what they had concluded last night when he had been asleep. She looked, and spotted him sitting by the fire bundling something into a piece of cloth.

"Whatcha doing Shippo?" Kagome asked curiously, looking over his shoulder. She realized that he was tying together.

"I'm making a healing packet." He answered her, eyes still locked on the herbs in his hand. Kagome was shocked, a healing packet? This kid is useful!

"Where'd you learn this?" Kagome asked inquisitively. He looked up at her soberly. Sighing, he motioned for her to sit down beside him. Kagome smiled warmly at him and sat down.

"While I was at the big stone house," Shippo said, referring to the castle in Kimara, "There was a strange lady there, she taught me a lot about herbs and remedies. I heard the guards say that she was some kind of sorceress or something." He shuddered. Plainly, he hadn't liked this `sorceress' very much.

Kagome took note of what Shippo had told her. A sorceress? Maeka and Jin's employer? It seemed a possibility, she decided to talk to Miroku and Kikyo, they were a priest and a priestess, they might know something about her.

(^-.-^) (It's Buyo!)

Yay, I finished this chapter fast and as an added bonus it's actually pretty long for me! I have to warn you, as you can tell, I write small chapters, so long for me is like 3,000. So, I have a feeling that this story is getting a little boring in the action department. I guess next time I might add some action. Okay, well, Happy New Year!!!!
