InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Demons in Disguise ❯ Pushed Away ( Chapter 8 )
Sesshou entered Rin's room and walked back. He was surprised to see two middle-aged people sitting by her bedside. Rin seemed to be trying to talk but they weren't letting her. They were scolding her and comforting her at the same time. They finally noticed Sesshou and the look on their faces wasn't pleasant.
"Is that the boy, Lin dear?" the man asked Rin. She tried to say something but the woman was already up and heading toward the dumb-founded Sesshou. She was shaking her finger madly as she approached him.
"You!" She stared up at him with cold eyes. "You did this to our precious Lin, didn't you?"
"Janice, he didn't do-" Rin began but the man quieted her while Janice spoke to Sesshou.
"How dare you!" Janice swung her palm across Sesshou's face as hard as she could. It didn't necessarily hurt him, but it did take him by surprise. He rolled his jaw and rubbed the spot that the Janice woman slapped.
"Stop, Janice!" Rin protested, but Janice turned and glared at her. Rin shrunk back on her pillow and looked away. Then Janice redirected her cold gaze to Sesshou.
"Young man, what made you think you'd get away with this? Don't you know Lin has a mental condition? I guess a rascal like you wouldn't even care! What were you planning to do to her? Kidnap her? Molest her? Rape her?"
"Ma'am, I wouldn't even think of-" Sesshou tried to retort, but Janice wasn't letting him get a word in edge wise.
"I don't want to hear it!" she exclaimed with a fierce glare. "Mark my words, you rapscallion, we're going to be watching our Lin like a hawk so that you can never get within a mile of her!"
Sesshou fought the urge to strangle this woman. She wouldn't even let him defend himself!
"Please listen to me, ma'am, I had no intention-" Sesshou tried to say but Janice began waving her arms madly.
"Quiet! I told you I didn't want to hear it!" Janice interrupted.
"Ask Rin what happened. She'll vouch for me!" Sesshou hurried to say. Janice spat at his feet.
"Shows how much you know. Her name is Lin, you criminal!" Janice narrowed her eyes. "And she's just suffered a seizure! Who knows how scrambled her mind could be?! I bet she doesn't even know what you really tried to do to her! George, call security!"
Rin began to protest again, but Janice was shushing her the best she could. The George man was picking up the phone and talking to someone at the front desk.
"Janice, he didn't do anything! Let him talk, please!" Rin cried out. Before Sesshou even had a chance to say good-bye, two very muscular orderlies came into the room.
"Is the intruder, ma'am?" One of the orderlies asked Janice. He was obviously referring to Sesshou. Janice nodded, trying to keep Rin from shouting. The orderlies held Sesshou's arms behind his back and started to pull him out of the room. Sesshou kicked and struggled.
"Stop! Listen to me!" Sesshou yelled, but his words were useless against the muscle-bound orderlies. Somehow, he was able to slip out of the men's grasp. His freedom didn't last for long though. As soon as Sesshou had managed to escape their grasp, one orderly put him in an impenetrable headlock. The other orderly grabbed his flailing legs and raised them off the ground. From there, Sesshou was carried quite unceremoniously out of the room.
Sesshou could hear the fading shouts of Rin while he was being forcefully carried down to the exit, with his mouth covered. No matter how much, he struggled the orderlies held fast. Once at the exit, he was literally tossed out of the doors. His clothes became soaked with frigid water when he landed in the puddles. Sesshou's bag had been thrown out too and landed right next to him, splashing water on his face. A light rain had begun to fall while he was in the hospital.
Sesshou pushed himself off the ground and jogged back to the entrance. The same two orderlies who threw him out were guarding the entrance. He pounded both fists on the door, shouting the reasons why he shouldn't be thrown out, but the orderlies completely ignored his pleas. After a few minutes of pleading to the orderlies, Sesshou finally gave up. He sighed heavily and rested his forehead on the glass door.
Reluctantly, Sesshou picked his bag off the ground and took one last look at the hospital. After that, he stared at the ground and hailed a taxi. The last thing he wanted to do was ride a bus. Sesshou climbed in and slammed the door shut. The cab driver drove off with Sesshou in the back seat, watching the hospital become smaller in the distance.

"Janice, why didn't you listen to him?" Rin asked Janice angrily. The foster parent smiled with her thin lips and padded Rin's thick hair. She was treating Lin like some ten year old who had no idea what was going on.
"There, there, sweetheart. The man won't be back to hurt you," Janice reassured her. "George is at the front desk signing the release papers as we speak. You'll be home soon."
"You don't understand," Rin rolled her hands into fists. "He saved me! He wasn't trying to hurt me."
"Aw, you're confused, sweetie," Janice cooed. "That happens when you have a seizure. You should remember soon. Then you can tell us what really happened."
"Quit treating me like a baby!" Rin demanded. "I know exactly what happened. You just won't listen."
"Sure you do, sweetheart," Janice said as she petted the top of Rin's head. Rin scowled and was about to say more when the nurse walked in and interrupted them.
"Pardon me, but I just came to tell you that the papers are all filled out and Lin is free to go," the nurse informed them. Janice nodded and helped Rin off of the bed.
"Come now, dear. It's time to come home with George and me," Janice commanded. Reluctantly, Rin slumped and allowed Janice to lead her out of the room. In her head, she imagined Sesshou's soft touch and handsome eyes. This comforted Rin somewhat, but it wasn't the same. Sesshou was the only person she had ever met that truly made her feel as if she was home. And as long as he wasn't near her, Rin would never be home again.

Once Sesshou had been dropped off as his apartment, paid the cab driver, and fed Aguh and Unan, he went to his apartment and threw his bag on the old coffee table between the cushion that was his couch and the small screen television resting against a wall. He reached for the remote and switched on the TV. The screen flashed before him, but he wasn't really paying attention. All his thoughts were on Rin. Sesshou was aware that he might very well never see her again.
Sesshou's cold wet clothes clung to his skin like plastic wrap, but he didn't take any action on changing. Glancing at his watch he realized he had missed his shift at the restaurant where he worked at. He shook his head and mentally shrugged. One day probably wouldn't make much of a difference. But that was one day's pay he missed.
Sesshou ambled into the bedroom and started changing into his sleeping clothes. Then he went into the bathroom to brush his teeth. Next his splashed some water on his face and stared into the mirror. He examined his face closely checking for the magenta strips and blue crescent moon that had been there earlier. He ran his fingers slowly up his cheek and along his forehead. There was a strange feeling of relief when he neither saw nor felt any differences.
For barely a moment, the entire day seemed to pass away like a dream. Like it had never happened. Yet it only lasted a moment. Sesshou's eyes drooped and he yawned. He walked out of the bathroom and switched off all the lights. He rolled up in the covers on his futon and began to drift away to sleep. Even as he slept, all he could about was Rin and her shining smile.
