Something came over Sesshou. It was similar to the feeling he had felt on the bus when he attacked the driver, but there was a notable difference this time. Instead of being overcome with malevolent feelings, this new ambition was driven with a will the benign feeling to protect Rin. His state of mind was beginning to change as well as his body. He almost felt like a completely different person. A person that was used to the powerful feelings and abilities he was currently capable.

Finally, the straining of the wire stopped completely, and an eerie few moments of complete placid silence passed by. Yet as soon as the moments were over, it was followed by chaos. Rin's scream rang out as soon as the crack of the wire sprang out. The elevator began to jolt and tug, as it was falling slanted with friction along the metal shaft. But the elevator shifted and soon it was the sound of clean earsplitting metal-to-metal screeching that sent goose bumps upon goose bumps on Rin's skin. The elevator was plunging down the shaft at breakneck speeds, and for a moment Rin was sure she and Sesshou were doomed.

But only seconds after they began their descent down the shaft, Sesshou tensed then sprung into action. His body was glowing with a steady white light and his hair was swaying unnaturally. He swung his stiff clawed hand over his head and when he swung it back again a long green cord of light sprang from his finger tips and shattered the mirrored elevator ceiling like a whip breaking a glass cup.

As the small pieces of shattered glass fell around them, Rin stared in horror at the sight through the now non-existent ceiling. They were falling incredible fast. Sparks rained down on them from the friction of the elevator metal screeching against the shaft. While she stared at the frightening sight, Sesshou wasted not a second when moving onto the next phase of his plan. With a flex Sesshou bent down and then leaped into the air. He leapt right through the tornado of glass and sparks above them, the sound of Rin's scream ringing through the shaft.

Within a moment they had exited the doomed elevator and were in the shaft, still heading upward at a fast velocity. Rin was in awe of Sesshou's speed and the fact that they were still heading up even though their peak should have been reached much sooner. When a sense of slowing was present, Sesshou pressed his feet against the side of the shaft and pushed up to the other wall, where he repeated the pattern. He leapt from side to side, never once looking down or changing his mildly determined expression. Rin held steadfast to him holding on for dear life.

It was obvious that Sesshou wasn't taking any chances, because he kept leaping up the shaft, even after they had passed Wufei's story. The top of the shaft was getting dangerously close, and Sesshou was still showing no sign of halting. Rin's eye widened and she screamed in his ear.

"Sesshou, stop! The ceiling! Watch out for the ceiling-ahhhhhhhh!"

Rin was cut off when the ceiling became less than a few feet away from their heads, but Sesshou still didn't stop. Instead, he bent down his head and pushed himself off the wall with plenty of force. His body began to glow white, and seemed as if a white smoke had settled around him. The ceiling broke open like an eggshell when Sesshou collided with it. He and Rin flew through the roof with ease. They landed a few yards away from there exit point.

Sesshou landed in a kneeling position and had his head bent while supporting himself with one hand. Rin looked back at the hole where a small part of the concrete roof used to be. The strong wind whipped around them, billowing through their ears. Rin's delightful laugh jingled out and she hopped of Sesshou's back. She spun around and jumped up and down with glee.

"Wow, Sesshou! That was amazing! I didn't know you could do that! Hey, you just saved our lives, too! Are you going to explain youself, mister? Well, Sesshou? Are you there, Sesshou?"

Rin stopped hopping and looked back to her lover. He had fallen flat on his stomach and was lying completely still. Rin gasped and rushed to his side.

"Sesshou!"

She turned him over onto his back and gasped again. His strange markings were gone and he was unconscious. There were some scratches over his face, some of which were bleeding. She cupped his cheek in her hand and turned it over to face her.

"Oh god!" she exclaimed. A deep gash in his forehead was dripping blood over that entire side of his face.
