Prologue
She was happiness.
She was kindness.
She was trust, beauty, love, sincerity, and honesty.
She was different. She gave no immediate judgment, and couldn't find it in her heart to hate. She was confident, demure, and sympathized for those with a lesser fortune.
But she also felt anger, despair, and overwhelming sadness. She never gave up, and she always fought to achieve what was right.
She had emotions.
She was perfect.
She was everything that he was not.
That was why she was perfect for him. She could make him see - make him realize what it was that he was missing. She could make him different. She was the only one who would have enough conviction to make him realize that it wasn't about fame and fortune; she could make him see his fatal mistake.
She was the only one who could make him realize that money couldn't buy happiness - that it couldn't achieve greatness. Money couldn't measure the greatness of a man - it could only defeat him. Money couldn't give him love or happiness, but sorrow and insecurity. Money couldn't ensure his safety - it couldn't save his life. It could only take his life away from him.
Money was fatal.
But he didn't know that yet.
Which was why she was sending her to him.
She was the only one who could save him from himself.
But then again -
She was the perfect angel.
~*~
It was the whispering of the winds, the sway of the trees, and the smell in the air. It was everything that burned within her - that gave her life, spirit, and hope - that lifted her up and never refused to let her fall. It was her preserved intuition that brought her there, to the Sanctuary of the Heavens.
She blinked up at the large mystical silver gates, her heart pounding in her chest. It was her first time every being called to the Sanctuary of the Heavens and she had never been more nervous. She didn't know what it was like, what would happen. She didn't know what she could possibly do to help - she had no special abilities that she knew of but - she couldn't help but feel slightly elated. It would be her first time returning to the Earth, in the form of a living entity.
Other Angels dreamed about it daily. They adored the heavens, but they couldn't help but crave life as well. When they were in the Heavens, all they were able to was feel absolute happiness, but -
One couldn't live with just one emotion alone. Of course it wasn't a false feeling that burned within their being but it wasn't a true feeling either. Angels wanted to be able to experience the bad with the good as well. Happiness wasn't happiness without the sorrow and misfortune to accompany it. One couldn't achieve true happiness without sorrow. It wasn't possible.
But then - she had to remember that nothing was impossible in the Heavens.
As she allowed her doubting thoughts to come to an immediate halt she slowly stepped forward, pressing her long delicate hands to the warm silver.
The gates opened instantly.
And she couldn't get the overtly large knot of nervousness to dispel from her being. It would be the first time going to the Sanctuary of the Heavens to meet with the higher powers, the Entities, and she couldn't change it.
They had called her, and she had to answer.
A warm gentle breeze surrounded her being, locking her in a comforting embrace, as though attempting to help ease the rising anxiety within her. However, her unwanted anxiety wouldn't waver. It continued to linger, even as the warm breeze guided her into the large mystical palace.
It was strange, wandering into the palace that was surrounded by bright yellow sunflowers, but which no light glistened upon. It was almost cold and desolate, but the warm breeze that enshrouded her figure continually pulsated around her, dousing her in an eternal comfort.
She felt elated.
And as the breeze guided her through the long stone corridors, she couldn't help but wonder why the palace was called the Sanctuary of the Heavens. The interior seemed so cold and indefinite, as though it couldn't bring happiness to those that ventured into it but - was that what the pulsating power around her was for? To protect those from it's cold absolute perpetuity? Surely it had to be but - she simply wasn't sure.
The Heavens were completely different from how she first envisioned them - before she believed that Angels merely floated around on clouds, waiting for their loved ones to join them after death - sometimes going down to the Earth to help right a wrong, or to protect those in danger, but she had never envisioned the Heavens to delude people. Perhaps she was the only to notice - but either way she didn't dare voice it.
Large oak doors opened as the breeze pulled her farther and farther into the depths of the Sanctuary, and for a moment she thought that they were going to dispel her, but as soon as the thought occurred it vanished. And suddenly - she was thrust into a large sparkling room, glistening with various metals, tapestries and sunflowers. It was absolutely beautiful.
The young ebony haired angel blinked, surprised as the warm breeze extracted itself from her, and floated to the center of the room where it soon turned into a delicate purple mist. It grew hazy and more enchanting, as she kept her blue eyes trained on the whirling mist in front of her, confused and yet enchanted at what was happening.
She had been in the Heavens for only a few short years - never aging but never fading and she had never seen something so supernatural - so surreal in her entire existence. It seemed impossible, but she had to keep reminding herself that nothing was impossible within the Heavens.
"That is very true," a calming soothing voice answered, drifting around her being and enshrouding her in a foreign aura, " nothing is impossible within the Heavens."
The Angel felt an unwanted ache rising within her, an ache so identical to fear, that she was unsure of what to do. The Sanctuary of the Heavens was so ethereal to her that - so truly didn't know whether or not to answer the voice or not. After all, how did she know if it truly existed? Perhaps it was just a figment of her imagination - a dream. After all Angels did continuously dream of venturing into the Sanctuary of the Heavens in hopes of returning to the Earth - their rightful homes.
Her heart was aching once more.
"Calm yourself my Angel, there is no need to feel despaired," the voice replied calmly, distancing itself from her being. And then, almost as though hearing a silent plea the purple mist returned full force, dousing her in it's beautiful essence and then -
It disappeared.
And in its place was a beautiful ebony haired entity with long silver white wings.
"Come my child," the Entity ordered, extending her arms as though wanting to embrace the young Angel.
The Angel hesitated at first, not sure whether or not to listen to the Entity, but then obliged, feeling the warm radiance emitting from the Entity. She floated elegantly into the Entity's arms, her nervousness disappearing immediately. Instead, it was replaced with an eternal calmness, and she could not help but snuggle deeper into the woman's being, seeking comfort and resolve.
"You doubt the Heavens do you not?" The Entity asked, running her long milky white fingers through the Angel's hair.
"I don't feel as though I doubt them, I merely question their intentions. Every time I wander the Heavens I feel an eternal happiness, and it continues to linger with me no matter how much I try to shake it. Whenever I feel the need to return to the Earth - to be able to live again, I know that yearning life should make me sad but instead - I still feel that same happiness, a happiness I shouldn't feel," she explained calmly, unsure of why she had spilled her heart out. She had wanted to keep her thoughts to herself, and although she was sure that the Entity would not get angry at her thoughts, she still could not help but feel as though she would punish her. The thought alone was truly frightening.
But instead, the Entity's arms tightened around her, and she placed a soft kiss to her head.
"Do not worry my Child, I have no intention of hurting you. I merely wish to talk to you. Come," she commented smoothly, releasing the Angel and leading her towards the end of the room where there was a large pool of water, rimmed with sunflowers and shining silver metals.
At first the young Angel was confused, but then the Entity placed a comforting hand on her cheek and led her foreward.
"Look into the basin Angel, and you will see your task."
The Angel nodded, smiling at the chocolate-eyed Entity before kneeling over and gazing into the basin of water.
And as she did, a silver mist rose from the surface of the water, surrounding her, causing a faint chill to run up her spine.
And - there was a man.
With fine silver tresses and haughty golden eyes.
She knew the subject of her task. She knew who she had to go to but -
What was she supposed to do? How was she supposed to help him?
"It's simple Angel. Go to him, grant his every wish."
"But - why?" The Angel asked curiously as the Entity's voice broke the vision, causing it to disappear from sight.
"Because, he is a troubled soul. He needs to gain absolute happiness."
"But how does granting his every wish grant absolute happiness? Doesn't that only help to corrupt the soul?"
The Entity laughed, shaking her head slowly.
"You are far more perceptive then I thought you would be Angel. Yes, granting ones every wish only leads to corruption of the soul - but this man - he has everything he could want. Except for absolute happiness. You will go to him and help him find him find that happiness by granting his heart's desire until he finds absolute happiness."
"And then?"
"And then," the Entity started, wrapping her arms around the Angel once more, "you will find your absolute happiness. You will have earned your wings." The Entity pressed another soft kiss to the Angel's black tresses and then -
She was floating in front of the Sanctuary of the Heavens and -
She had her task.
She had to grant one man his every wish until he found absolute happiness.
Absolute happiness.
Was that even possible?
But then the Angel realized that - even if wasn't possible, she still had to do her best to make him happy - make him gain what was missing from his life.
And the Entity thought she was the one to do it. So she would. She would descend towards to the Earth, find the silver haired man and grant him his every wish until he gained unconditional happiness.
After all, she had to find her own happiness.
She had to earn her wings, and she would.
The ground beneath her opened up slowly, that same purple mist started swirling around and -
She descended to the Earth - to happiness - to prosperity - to life.
