Chapter Twenty Six - Last battle


The moon lit the lake making it look like cooled embers. Kagome's white tunic like dress pressed into her skin as she stepped into the cold water. She cringed but one smile from Kikyo put away her discomfort. She looked around the area. The grass so green in the night. The opening was surreal it looked out of a mystical painting. Sango stood in front of the opening making sure no one got close to the ladies. Kagura and Ayame had already went into the water and now had joined hands along with Miroku who was first into the water.

For this land was purity.

Kagome grabbed onto Kikyo's hand and they both bowed their heads centering their thoughts. Slowly tears dripped down both Shikon Miko's eyes. Kikyo's hair was spread about her and was floating in the water regally. Kagome however had pulled her hair into a tight bun that exposed her beautiful small face and rosy cheeks.

"It hurts." Kagome said softly and Kikyo didn't dare open her eyes. Kagome kept her eyes closed also her head bowed and her hands joined with Kikyo's above the water bent at the elbow.

"I know." Kikyo said and they tighten their hands. Miroku, Ayame, and Kagura also kept their eyes closed and head bowed as the water dripped from their bodies and down to the grass where they sat. Sango made a sighing noise and no one stopped to see who had tried to enter the holy area.

"What are they doing?" Shoji asked. Sango motioned for them to be quite as she spoke.

"Purifying themselves."

"She fucking crying!" InuYasha said in a harsh whisper. Sango would not let InuYasha, Shoji, Kouga, nor Sesshomaru enter.

"...It hurts them."

"Isn't she already pure? And Kagura and Ayame are Youkai." Sesshomaru asked. Never in all his years had he seen such a thing where beings of already pure needed to be purified.

"No, they have become tainted with ill-will and emotions. They killed innocents because of their hate for Naraku. Kagura and Ayame are of the Lunars' they are divine and pure as any monk or Miko. If they become tainted to the point of extreme their spiritual energy is close to none. They become over run with malice." Kikyo bit her lip from the pain and their was a faint ethereal glow around the two but it was quickly gone.

The two began to breathe heavily once they got out the water. Kagome fell to the floor and Kikyo tried to hold her up but she fell to her knees. Miroku helped Kagome by carrying her bridal style while Ayame and Kagura supported each a side of Kikyo. Once out the area InuYasha grabbed Kagome and Shoji grabbed Kikyo.

"What happened!" InuYasha shouted.

"She waited to long." Was all Miroku said before he and Sango began to leave. Kouga had picked up Ayame and Sesshomaru held Kagura.

InuYasha lay on the bed with Kagome a sleeping Akira in-between them. InuYasha looked at Kagome who had changed into a white night slip and her hair was still up.

"What happened and why didn't you tell me?" Kagome didn't say anything for a while. She just stared into InuYasha eyes. A tear ran down her eyes soaking the pillow and reaching across the bridge of her nose. InuYasha was unnerved. He reached across to grab Kagome's hand.

"When a Miko's or anyone with extreme spiritual power heart become tainted yours supposed to purify yourself. There is amount of time you do this. It depends on how dark your heart has become. Me and Kikyo noticed our Miko aura had darken, mine almost way past control. I suppose that's why it hurts so much. I hadn't done it before, since almost six years ago. When my family died I refused to part take in anything holy. I still feel it now a dull throbbing in my chest. Makes me almost sick." InuYasha hadn't know what to say for a while.

"I went to my father's grave that day. I hadn't know why I wanted to go that day but I did. When I got home to greet my mother she was on her bed. The red sheets were even more ruby. She was dead. I ran to find Sesshomaru or at least the person who did it. There was Sesshomaru and he was covered in her blood. We fought. I took my mother's body and had the funeral the next day. Naraku said I could get my revenge on Sesshomaru so that's why I joined him. Rin begged me not to." InuYasha gave a dry laugh that was hollow.

"I said to her 'He killed mother!' but Rin would only shake her head. Now that I know it wasn't him I must ask for forgiveness and he'll kill me or test my worth. I haven't asked yet...I guess I'm a coward. It's youkai law." Kagome looked at him her eyes glistened with raw emotion. It was then InuYasha realized how young she was. Twenty years old, not old enough to even drink. She should be in her third year of college not fighting a war for power, not with a newborn child, and not with an enteral mate. But what could he say everyone was still young he his self was only twenty-five the prime of his life.

"He'll forgive you." She said, what she meant was -

He has forgiven you.

"These are very powerful pills, however to make your enemy take them is hard." Kikyo showed the small tablet. Everyone looked at the greenish pill oddly. Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow at his partner.

"Sesshomaru please come here." He did and stood in front of her. She nodded to his sword which he withdrew. Kikyo brought down her sword against his. Once she found an opening she went for it and hit Sesshomaru above the heart with the tip of her sword. She paralyzed him. She quickly grabbed the back of his head and kissed him. Her tongue flicked his own and then she removed herself.

Sesshomaru hair was jet black and his eyes purplish black,

"You see it breaks down the youkai's blood. That was a light dose so you'll be back to normal within an hour. However if it was the heavy dose you'd be only human. Then you'd most likely die." Kikyo stated. Kagura went to say something but Kikyo put her hand up.

"I know Kagura. First of all the only other way of getting into Sesshomaru's system was shoving it into his mouth and even then I'm sure...he wouldn't sallow." Kikyo smirked and the members of the room broke out into a laugh.

"You kind of look like Momma Izayoi." Rin whispered.

"It's InuYasha whose her spitting image." Sesshomaru said. Kikyo cleared her throat.

"As for Kagome, Sango, and Ayame you are well aware that you have to take the serum. However it's different it will let you remember everything but it'll block any nightmare."

"Nightmares?" Kouga questioned.

"Yes, I had made this serum a long time ago to...well it had side affects which gave us nightmares. I made a blue serum that would take away twenty minutes of your memory you'd would drink this right after a kill." Kikyo said.

"That first serum. What was it for?" Miroku asked since everyone wanted to know.

"It is none of your concern." Sesshomaru said and their was a tense silence.

"I don't care." Kagome said and Ayame and Sango agreed.

"It was to exterminate a child." InuYasha processed Kikyo's words then looked at Kagome.

"How many times?" Kagome fidgeted.

"Ten." InuYasha eyes went wide. He pulled her over to the far corner of the office.

"When did you last use it?

"Eight months ago." InuYasha grabbed her harshly around her upper arms. Kagome turned her head away from him.

"That means you cheated on me or you aborted our child." Kagome didn't say anything. He shook her and she snapped her eyes to his. Blue and gold met and sparked, both hid hurt. Kagome bit her tongue. She remembered that time she met that guy with Ayame. It was at the bar. She remembered Hiroshi the one night stand and how she thought his eyes were dull gray she much preferred gold.

"I've cheated." InuYasha released her and walked over to Sesshomaru together they both walked out. Shoji and Miroku left and Sango and Kikyo were talking lively on the desk. Kagura, Rin, Shippo, Kouga, Bankotsu, Kaeda and Jakotsu had also walked out. Ayame walked over to Kagome.

"Kouga's pissed." Ayame sighed.

"InuYasha is also upset. I can't blame him."

They sat in silence then. Tears falling from their cheeks.

"Kikyo it didn't mean anything!" Sango yelled. Kikyo rolled her eyes.

"So what? Let me tell you Sango your my friend. You knew he was my husband but still. I didn't go messing with Miroku while you were gone." Sango closed her eyes.

"I'm sorry."

Kikyo walked out.

"I understand were your coming from Miroku but I didn't even know you."

"I know. I'm more disappointed in Sango you know? I've had my share of already taken woman. Karma really is a bitch."

They drank to that.

"You wanted to ask forgiveness?" Sesshomaru said. InuYasha nodded.

"Yes." For a while Sesshomaru didn't speak but turn his back on InuYasha.

"Our father was killed by Naraku also."

"I didn't know." InuYasha was shocked he never knew who had killed their father. He was too young to know Naraku and Rin was younger.

"Draw your sword."

He had done it all for her. She was his main goal. She was his real prize at the end. He wasn't about to give up on his dream of getting her. No matter what it took. He would kill, scream, and become something even more sinister just to have her. He desired her love and no matter how tainted he was he would receive her divine love. Even if it was last thing he would do. He wanted her, he needed to have her, he would stop at nothing. He do whatever it took. He was obsessed and he didn't care not once. He yearned for her adoration his body burned for her.

She would surrender to him and their golden shackles would never be broken or marred.

He would make sure of it.

"I've forgiven you, do the same to our Higurashi." Sesshomaru seethed his sword.

"You don't even know the situation!" InuYasha yelled. Sesshomaru punched him. InuYasha's head recoiled from the blow. His eyes wide in shock.

"You hurt her and I'll kill you. She is under my watch no matter your relationship any harm done to her will get back to me. If I found out you'd made that woman's life anymore hard you'll regret it."

"...She is still young. Last night I watched her watch me. In her eyes I saw her life stripped naked. I started to think where she would be if she was a normal twenty year old." Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow.

"What did you end up with?"

"Not purifying herself."

He left then. Sesshomaru stood proud.

The next day those in need were forgiven. However no smiles were graced upon any face. Fourteen warriors stood around the well on the Higurashi shrine. Sesshomaru, Kikyo, Kagura, Shoji, Sango, InuYasha, Kagome, Miroku, Ayame, Rin, Kouga, Shippo, Bankotsu and Jakotsu were leading two divisions deeper into InuYasha's route. Until finally they came upon a building large and wide. It looked of glass but it was surly made out of something much stronger. Before them lay at least two hundred warriors of the red eyed spider.

No fear or sweet words came from the fourteen.

The division began at the sign of Kikyo and Sesshomaru taking a step forward.

Kagome fought her way through the crowd. Her main goal was Naraku. Who no doubt laid inside the building. She didn't try to use much of her Miko powers but she slice through the warriors. The stench of death and blood already hitting her nose. She wanted to gag but years of burnt flesh and spilled blood taught her how to keep the bile down.

She threw small grenades into the crowd. Burnt flesh engulfed her. She was sure it had seeped into her clothes and rubbed into her hair. She spared a glance around her and saw Kikyo purifying everyone in her way leaving a clear path. She wanted to look for InuYasha but every second was dear and marked her death.

With only one gun wound to the shoulder Kagome made it into the building. Miroku was breathing rather hard but he flipped his now lose hair and smiled at her. Kagome laughed. Together they walked the stairs

Maybe it was Ayame battle cry or Naraku's laugher but whatever it was they ran up the stairs without thought.

There was blood everywhere as it was normal however in war. My boots slide on some Youkai blood and so I won't fall on my ass I catch myself with my hands. I try to wipe the blood on my army thick pants. I grab my gun and run into a room where everyone else is at. The division have killed everyone at the front gates. Kagome and Miroku are fighting Naraku. So is everyone else. There is four Naraku's which one is real?

None.

So preoccupied with killing my own Naraku the real Naraku attacks me from the side with a burning punch to the face. I'm sure there is a bruise. I kill the puppet and so does everyone else.

"Welcome." Sesshomaru growls and InuYasha moves a little closer. Kikyo holds the Shikon tighter. Naraku looks everyone in the eyes and stops at me.

"First... " His red eyes flicker over to Kagura. Her own blood eyes showing nothing but hate. "let's get rid of the vermin." Before any of us can understand Kagura falls to the ground. Sesshomaru rushes to her side and picks her up bridal style in his arms. She coughs out some blood. A sign of internal bleeding, most likely at the chest area. She wipes some blood from the corner from her mouth and her hands fall weakly at her sides.

"I was never blinded." She smiles.

Those are her last words.

She dies. Naraku laughs. Sesshomaru is stone still.

"Bring her back!" Rin yells. Sesshomaru sets Kagura on the ground then throws two pieces of metal on the harsh ground.

His sword is broken. Tensaiga.

Everyone attacks.

...Kagura is dead.

Dead.

My sword unsettled itself. I think my hands went around the hilt. I'm sure I swung. I'm positive I cut flesh.

Kikyo walked over to Rin. An hour and still Naraku was kicking their asses. She dragged Rin down a non-vacant hallway.

"Here take it. Stay here, you protect the Shikon." Rin took it and nodded. She hid herself just like Kikyo had told her. A fake Shikon no Tama hung around Kikyo's neck with enough Miko energy that no one would know. Just as Kikyo went back into the fight she noticed lots of demons around them.

Naraku called in help.

Kikyo smiled and grabbed Ayame. Ayame easily slashed through the demons and Kikyo laughed as she burnt every youkai with purity.

They were loosing. Kagura was dead and Shippo was injured. Jakotsu right leg was broken and Kaeda had put a barrier around him to protect him.

Kagome fell then. She pushed herself upright to lean against the wall. She looked around wildly.

I could see the blood trickle down my arm. Still I felt nothing. I guess this was the part where I died. I knew, Kikyo had told me, I hadn't told anyone else not even InuYasha. There was a lot of blood now but I still couldn't feel anything. My eye lids felt so heavy and spots of black dance in front of my eyes. Then suddenly everything hurt.

InuYasha was there before my head hit the floor. His arms felt so warm and it took some of the pain away. His eyes were so worried and tired. Filled with pain because of me. I reach up to touch his cheek lightly my blood dirtying his beautiful skin.

"I'm sorry I...didn't tell you...that this would happen." I can't breathe, I bet my lungs are filling up with blood. InuYasha holds me close. He knows what I mean.

"I'll love you forever. Tell that to Akira also." Tears choke me up. My baby I will never really known. My Akira. I slip my ring off my finger that I once gave to Sesshomaru for Kiku. I give it to InuYasha.

"Akira."

"Kagome!!!!" InuYasha brought her closer to his chest.

"What about Akira? Kagome you can't do this! No damn it! Get your ass up! KAGOME!" He wiped a tear from his face harshly and pushed Kagome's hair from her face. He placed a light kiss on her lips and carried her away from the open battel ground and behind a pillar where Sesshomaru had placed Kagura. Kagome was dead. Her small body lay next to Kagura's just as small dead body. She looked like she was sleeping but the blood was drained from her face. They could never get married and fulfill her dream. He would have to tell Akira that her mother a young woman of twenty had died by a bullet specially crafted to kill Miko's.

Kagome had died.

He would make sure it wasn't in vain.

"Kagome and Kagura." Sesshomaru whispered. This time he got Naraku right in the chest. Blood sprinkled onto his face and hair. Miroku went to help Kaeda hold up the barrier which now also held Shippo. Kadea's power was running thin. Kouga went to help Ayame. Kikyo, Sesshomaru, Bankotsu, Shoji, and Sango stood in front of Naraku. Just as Naraku prepared another deadly blow a wind blew which was weird since they were inside. Then a backlash came and Naraku's deadly power was turned on him.

"You bastard! That's for Kagome!" Another blow came from Sesshomaru and Naraku knew that was for Kagura. Still he was far from dead. The building was mainly stripped away and now they stood on only the hard marble ground which had once been inside the building.

Sango was covered in blood which remained in her hair and mixed with her body sweat. She was sure her clothing was torn and so was Kikyo's and Bankotsu's who just became perched in the arm which he swung his sword.

Hope was lost in the river of tears, blood, and sweat.

Once Shoji fell Kikyo dropped her guard for that one second. But a second was all it took. A demon had pushed Kikyo into a wall where you could hear her bones crack and break. She was either dead or knocked out, Sango couldn't tell.

Rin saw Kikyo hit the wall beside her. Kikyo opened her eyes and motioned words that Rin barely was able to make out. Rin nodded and tears adored her face. She ran out into the open.

"RIN!" Shippo shouted as a very powerful Shikon bullet was headed towards her.

Rin made a wish.
