InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Don't go yet! ❯ Run Rabbit Run ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Heavy labored breathing beated out of her mouth, blades of sweat slid down over her eyes. She quickly wiped them with the back of her arm. 'Must keep running!' Her feet ached with pain and a stinging sensation hit her stomach. A side ache developed she drew a arm over to clutch herself. She still had a long way to run and the black pavement drew ever longer. It appeared to go for miles instead of going in a large oval. The air escaped her for a brief second she heaved in a quick crackly breath. Slowly her legs slowed her pace became a jog and then even slower into a walk. She moved out of the lane one and walked over to lane six. Arms layed back on her head fighting the side pain. She still had one more lap after this. A runner passed her with ease and beagain speeding up, she envied their energy. Ebony hair flew into her eyes and out of agitation she plucked it out of her eyes. More people kept passing her but the ache hadn't subsided from her side, she didn't have a high endurance for running or pain. The very ground she walked on felt like melted rubber sucking her feet into the ground and only with much effort was she able to pull them out of their confinement. She looked behind her to see the sun setting across the soccer field at the bottom of the field. The sky had created a lovely tapestry of many shades of pink, purple, orange, and a light tint of a red that was darker than the pink. Sighing she willed her legs to move in a slight jog before they failed her once again. Trying again she sprinted tearing the earth's gravity to shreads, her heart beat was felt on her forehead and even some minor traces of it in her ears.
It pained her all the more as her head, feet, and chest felt like they were exploding all at the same time. Tears swelled in the creavices of her eyes, droplets stung as they fell. Teatering on the brink of a total collapse and gravity making itself more aware of her presence she pushed herself forward. The other inhabitants were on their last lap just behind her or already finished. When she crossed the starting line that meant she was on her final lap. Oddly enough she scoped her surrounding to see that all the other cross country members had just finished. Realizeing that walking wasn't the best idea that had entered her mind. They apparently decided not to wait for her because they all headed back to the school to get changed without her. Not that any of them would wait for her. She held no such promises or ties with anyone here. It wasn't that she couldn't talk to people, which she could but she was never really compelled to do so. Cross country was mostly not a very sociable event for these people. Not like it was when she was in Middle school. She had plenty of friends there and when she fell behind like always at meets she would talk to the other straglers whether they were from her school or not. It wasn't important to win in her opinion if she crossed the finish line she was happy. Not in a appleased way but semisatisfied. Giving her the feeling just like the question is the glass half empty or half full? Whichever way she looked at it the glass still was missing a portion of it, a empty space if you will. 'Almost there.' She lied to herself trying to put the pain in a imaginary triangle imagining the pain as green light slowly entering it.
Thinking about getting rid of the pain she tried to meditate like she had in her tai chi lessons letting the green light enter her head and make its way down her body. Her eyes closed she felt her body be pulled closer and closer into the grassy football field that the track encircled. Taking in another clipped breath she opened her eyes almost feeling faint. She had to run at least another hundred feet left, each new step her heart beat bleed into her feet. The sun had almost disappeared behind the line of trees at the bottom of the hill. She pasted the football goal post and was approaching the bleachers. If she kept her pace she would be done fairly soon. She slowly ran past the bleachers and crossed the finish line. She finally haulted to catch her breath, but it was like trying to catch a fish with a ice cube. Not gonna happen. In realizing this she turned and went passed the bleachers and goal post to reach the fence that boxed in the school building. The gate had a turning point where she made her way to the hill that delayed her from returning home. The hill was egging her on to fall on her back because the magnitude of how steep it was. Never the less she made it up the hill and walked on the side walk right next to the teachers parking lot, and passed a tree slowly veering to the right she found that someone was kind enough to take pity on her to leave a stick in the door way. 'Gee how kind.' She thought sarcastically. Her shaky hand gripped the handle and yanked the door open not bothering with the stick that had fallen to the ground.
She wiped her hands over her over heated and sweaty forehead. Taking her time she crossed the gym and went for the girls locker room. It was a plain as day that she was almost completely alone and the locker room empty. One student named Mika lingered wipeing her head with a half wet half dry towel. She adjusted her blue bra and put on some deoderant and her yellow shirt and left. Now she was definately all alone. Turning her locker combo with ease she grabbed her stuff out and removed her sweaty shirt. Which had neatly label in the corner 'Kagome' just above the school name and in big letters cross country team. She turned over the back and looked at her last name 'Higurashi'. It seemed now in her house that she was the only one in it to carry such a name. Her shoes and socks were temporaily discarded. She sighed and shoved the shirt and her shorts into her black bag and slipped on over her purple underware a pair of lightly colored jeans adjusting the green belt that kept them from falling down they were far to baggy otherwise. She too put some deoderant on her underarms, then putting the deoderant into the bag. Her orange shirt with a red heart in the middle was over her head in no time. The spare socks that Kagome had with her were put on instead of the ones that were wet from the intense running, they too were placed in the bag. Kagome's sore feet slid gently into her tennis shoes, quickly she got her face wet and dried it off with a towel. Her hair that was piled into a ponytail that became messed up during her run was easily ripped out. Her greasy hair hung like a halo around her head which was because of the ponytail and felt stiff and foreign against her head as she attempted to brush it. After she was satisfied enough to go home the brush was place into the bag, and the bag over her shoulder but then she froze...

BA DUM BA DUM....

Eyes fluttered open slowly...

"Quick get her a..." The voice that appeared disappeared so did the light. Suddenly the form was jostled and shaken. It appeared to be in a hospital bed. "Hurry I want a doctor get me Dr.Sugi this instant!" Someone screamed. Then light disappeared again. A breath was put forth from the form. Light flickered back slowly and it was seen doctors surrounding the form from all sides, some held the arms."Where is Dr.SUGI!" The same voice screamed out before the light went out. Bright light flowed from a light overhead. The form beagain to convulse. "She's going into labor!" The scene was swerveled back and forth like a pendulum jostling the humans in it. Though the human doctors felt nothing from the disturbance but the form felt all around a pull a tight pain. "Her contractions are less than two minutes apart!" Everything was jostling around the surroundings couldn't be instencely studied. "Dilation is nine centimeters!" The form was hooked up to many different monitors that what was known."Breathe!" The woman developed a rhythum to her breathing."That's good now keep that pace!"
"Her blood pressure is rising!" A male voice added above the screaming the form put forth.
"How's the baby?" The light disappeared for a second and then reappeared.
"The heart isn't stable!"
"Nooooooooooooo!" The form screeched out of her throat in a sob.
"You need to calm down!" The female doctor said holding her hand. The form was sitting up and shaking squeezeing the living day lights out of the Doctor's hand."Push!"
"We need to get this baby out now!" Another female voice appeared into the mixture of voices."Or we'll have to preform a Caesarean!"
"Where's Dr.Sugi?!" Neither the form nor the baby was stablizeing.
"Here!" A unseen form came up to the bed."How the baby?"
"Dr.Sugi the baby's heart beat isn't stablizing," The female doctor showed the monitor,"Her dilations are nine centimeters and her contractions are less than two minutes apart."
"Alright...try once again to get this baby out, but p......." The form head flew back eyes rolled back into the head."Mrs.Higurashi!"

"What the...!" Kagome kept her eyes open and watched everything move backwards. Mika did everthing backwards and then suddenly everyone was instantly back into the changing room and then out of sight again. Her eyes felt the pull of her eye lids as she blinked...

Soft brown pools stare straight ahead. Reflecting off the pupil is a smudge. The smudge itself is oblong, slowly it becomes larger. Indicating the movement the pupils became more dilated. The eyes themselves open wider, the air becomes more stagnet. Two arms grab forth and grab the owner of the eyes shoulders and shakes them.
"Kagome?" The young girls eyes fling upward at the sky.

Kagome's body was stiff and numb back in the girls locker room. Frost iced itself on her hair and on her eyelashes she flicked the ice off. For a moment nothing happend...
