Don’t Go
Chapter 5
The last good-bye
Miroku woke to the sound of horses from outside of the hut. He blinked hard before slowly sitting up, he looked around the room. Everyone was asleep, except Kaede who was already making a fire near the corner to cook breakfast.
“Good-morning Miroku.” Kaede said, not even sparing time to look at him as she prepared spices.
Today was the day. The night of the full moon when they would have to send Kagome back to her time, never to remember them or the feudal era again.
Miroku fully got out of his bed and brushed off his shoulders . He stretched and yawned and then made his way towards Kaede to help her out with the food. In his sleepiness- his eyes still hazy and head still slightly dizzy from getting up too fast- he tripped over Sango’s feet and fell over hitting the ground with a muffled “Owwww…”
The young girl beneath him blinked once and then looked up to see Miroku’s face flat on the floor beside her. Sango sat up fully and lightly hit Miroku’s leg.
“Houshi! Get off of me, your cutting of the circulation to my legs!” Sango pushed at his feet but then leaned back into bed when he finally stood up and brushed himself off.
Sango laughed quietly, but it was enough for Miroku to hear. She was smiling, something he hadn’t seen in days and it made him happy aswell to see her at least have fun for a second.
“Your so stupid!” She laughed when he just stared at her, also cracking a small smile as well.
Her laughing died down after a bit. “What!” She sat up to face Miroku. “why are you looking at me like that?” She eyed him curiously.
“You smiled.” He simply stated , getting up and grabbing a bucket from near the door. The weather outside was beautiful and fresh.
“yea…” she looked away in thought.
“Well, I'm off to get some water, be back soon.” Miroku waved out to them as he walked out the door.
Ah! She’s so beautiful when she smiles…’
Just then Kagome woke up. She stirred at first but then woke up quickly. She blinked also, adjusting her eyes to the lighting of the room .
“Good-morning Kagome!” Sango’s I-wish-I-was-cheery voice was the first thing to reach her ears.
“Morning…” She mumbled sitting up from her tear stained pillow.
Sango suddenly remembered what was to take place today and her smile wavered for a second before she regained her composure. Kagome was too sleepy to notice.
They all ate breakfast as usual and before they knew it evening had come. Kaede had insisted on eating Dinner outside in the fresh air. Sango and Miroku couldn’t help but feel guilty. Its not like they were Lying to her but by not saying anything about the whole matter felt just as bad as a direct lie.
They ate as normal as possible, sparking conversation whenever it was possible, they even laughed for a bit before the meal was over.
The evening was perfect and the sun was just setting, the time was approaching. “Kagome,” Kaede began after there plates were empty and awaiting to be brought to the river for washing. “Yes.” Kagome said sitting back down again after trying to be useful and put some stuff away.
The old woman breathed in and spared an apologetic glance and Sango and Miroku before continuing. “ We are sending ye back to ye time , child.”
“What?” Kagome was confused . “ Why would you do something like that? I need to stay here, my friends are here and now that Inuyasha is gone its even more crucial that I remain in the feudal era”
“ But its too Dangerous for you here.” Miroku butt in. “He’s right Kagome ,its only a matter of time before Naraku destroys these lands!”
“huh? Not you guys too! What is everyone talking about ,I'm not going anywhere and none of you can make me leave! I thought friends stuck together.” Kagome sat up from the table. “I’m going inside.” She said. What they were saying hurt her, as much as she considered going back home , she never thought Sango and Miroku would ever let her!
“Its too late.” Kaede stopped her in her tracks. Kagome turned around. “what?” The night of the new moon is approaching .
“What?”
“The full moon is already here.”
Just then the sun set fully on the horizon ,leaving nothing but the steady glow of the full moon floating above them.
Kagome looked up at them , eyes filled with confusion and fear. “What exactly are you planning on doing to me?...” she asked quietly ,her words floating lightly on the chilling wind.
“You wont remember a thing Kagome , when we send ye back ,it will be as if this never happened, like ye never knew us or Inuyasha. The pain will be lessened and you will be able to live a normal life, just like ye wanted is it not Kagome?”
“How…But I don’t want to forget!” She backed away from Kaede who had already began a steady chant, making Kagome sleepy. Sango tilted her head down, letting her tears fall freely to the ground.
“Though you may forget us Kagome, we will never forget you…”
Kagome heard Sango’s words and froze. ‘This cant be happening…’ “No!”
Kagome then began to run aimlessly into the forest, searching for a place to hide. “Kagome ,wait! “ Miroku ran after her. “This is for your own protection.!” He followed her all the way to the clearing where she had accidentally ran.
Great! I might as well have thrown myself into the well.’
Miroku’s panting and Kaede’s chants ,still booming in her ears was all that she could hear.
“Kagome…” Miroku said, pleading with her to cooperate.
“Stay away from me! You’ve all lost it!” She said backing away. She was getting sleepier by the second. “Why are you doing this.” Tears welled up in her hazel eyes.
“It is simple Kagome, if you stay here….you will surely die.” His voice was stern and left no room for further question other than the slightest bit of fear for his friend that only someone like Sango could notice.
Kagome stiffened. ‘But if there sending me back then…’
“But what about you and the others?” Tears streamed down her face now.
“What will happen to you Miroku?”
Miroku bowed his head and looked away. “Good-bye Kagome…”
Her eyes widend as she heard as clear as ever, Kaede finish the chant and her body back up into the side of the well.
Haruka katana Mo Naze!”
Then all went blank for her as she went limp and slowly fell back into the well under the soft light of the full moon.
no…I cant forget you...I wont…NO!’
Kagome woke up to the sounds of birds chirping in Tokyo Japan.
