Kagome watched Inuyasha take the first bite of his dinner. She was a little nervous about how this ham would come out, she had let her mind wander while baking it.
He let out a moan of delight and smiled. “This is amazing.”
Kagome’s face lit into a bright smile and she began eating her own dinner.
“This is really good Kagome.” Sango agreed.
“I’m glad you both like it.”
Dinner was a silent affair, the only interruption, the occasional speech about the day. Finally, not being able to swallow another bite, the three adjourned to the living room for coffee and ice cream (of course, there is always room for the ice cream).
“So how’s mom and dad?” Kagome asked Sango.
“They’re doing good.” Sango said, sipping on her coffee.
“Mom and Dad?” Inuyasha asked. “I thought you two were just cousins.”
“We are.” They answered in unison. “But, Sango lived with us for a while when her parents got divorced.” Kagome continued.
“Yeah, my parents basically said ‘pick one of us’ and I was like ‘I can’t do that’ so I chose my aunt and uncles house.” Sango elaborated.
“Oh.” Inuyasha nodded in acknowledgment.
There was a slight silence after that, which was a little awkward. “Will your parents be at the Halloween party?” Kagome asked.
“Yeah I think so.” Sango smiled. “Is Yash coming over?”
“Yeah.” Kagome smiled shyly and looked at the floor.
“That’s cool. How long have you two been together? At least tell me that.”
“Well…” Kagome looked at Inuyasha, he shrugged. “We’ve been together for a year and a half.”
“Ooh! When did you meet?” Sango asked.
“Later Sango… Later.” Kagome smiled.
“Fine.” Sango finished off her ice cream.
“I’m gonna hit the shower Kags.” Inuyasha said.
“’Kay sweetie.” Kagome cleared the dessert dishes.
“Want some help with those dishes?” Sango asked.
“I can’t do them yet anyway. Yash’s in the shower and he’d kill me.” Kagome laughed and stacked the dishes next to the sink.
“So, can I at least have a few details?”
“God Sango. No.” Kagome smirked and walked back into the living room.
Sango and Kagome sat watching TV waiting for Inuyasha to get out of the shower.
“Kagome!” Inuyasha called.
“Inuyasha!” She called back.
“I need a towel!”
Kagome laughed to herself and went to the laundry room. She had forgotten to put the towels away. She carried the basket of towels into the bathroom and handed Inuyasha one through the shower curtain.
“Here ya go.” Kagome said and began sorting the towels.
“Thanks baby.”
He stepped out of the shower, the towel wrapped loosely around his lower half. He walked up behind Kagome and kissed her on the neck. “I love you.” He whispered.
“I love you too.” Kagome turned in his arms and inhaled his scent. It was a fresh scent of Irish Spring. She moaned lightly and her grip on him tightened.
“I don’t ever want to let you go.” Inuyasha said, kissing her softly.
Kagome sounded a moan of delight and smiled. “But you have to.”
Inuyasha smirked and pulled away from Kagome. “Fine.”
Kagome shook her head as he walked out the door, still smirking.
Kagome heard a small ‘eep’ from Sango followed by a “Hey Song.” Kagome smiled and put away the rest of the towels quickly.
Kagome walked back out into the living room and sat down next to Sango. “I just saw more of Inuyasha than I ever care to see again.” Sango said, her left eye twitching slightly.
Kagome laughed at Sango’s remark and turned her focus back to the television. Inuyasha came back into the living room a few minutes later. He was dressed in his black athletic pants, his hair wrapped up in a towel.
“Put a shirt on.” Sango said as he sat between her and Kagome.
“Then it would get all wet.” He said nonchalantly. “What’re we watching?” he asked.
“Nothing yet, just trying to see what’s on.” Kagome answered. “But you two can decide, I’m going to go do the dishes.” She stood up and started back to the kitchen.
“You are not leaving me alone with this boy!” Sango stood up quickly and ran after Kagome.
“What is so wrong with Inuyasha?” Kagome asked, getting a little angry at Sango’s ‘less than friendly’ behavior.
“He’s just not right.” Sango said. “I mean, playing such evil pranks. He’s as bad as Miroku.”
“Inuyasha is not Miroku, Sango!” Kagome turned on the water and waited for it to heat up.
“He might as well be. They were best friends for years!”
“Then why haven’t I met him yet!?” Kagome asked. “If him and Miroku are best friends, why have I been with Inuyasha for almost two years and not met his “Best friend”? Besides Sango, they played those jokes on you years ago; and they weren’t even that horrible of jokes.”
“But… he hung out with Miroku for years… he must have developed some of his personality. You and I are alike because we hung out together for so long.”
“Inuyasha is not Miroku! And I know what you’re getting at! He’s not going to cheat on me!” Kagome dropped the plate she was holding and it shattered on the floor.
“Kagome?” Inuyasha came downstairs and walked into the kitchen. “Everything okay?” He asked.
“Yeah Yash.” Kagome bent down and started picking up the pieces of the broken plate.
“Let me help with that.”
“It’s okay, I got it.” Kagome smiled a little, bringing the pieces over to the trashcan.
“Well, let me sweep at least.” Inuyasha said, going to the broom cupboard and getting the broom.
“I can do it.” Sango said, “It was my fault.” She held her hand out and Inuyasha handed her the broom.
“You okay Kags?” He asked in a soft voice.
“I’m fine. You can go back upstairs if you want.”
“Okay.” He looked at the two girls, deciding the best course of action before taking Kagome’s suggestion and wandering back upstairs.
“I’m sorry Sango.” Kagome said.
“It’s okay Kags.” Sango dumped the dustpan into the trash. “You’re right. Inuyasha’s not Miroku. I didn’t mean to judge him.” She had a small tear in her eye and she looked away from Kagome quickly.
“I’m sorry Sango.” Kagome repeated.
“Don’t be.” Sango turned around and walked off.
Kagome released a heavy sigh and finished the dishes.
“This is going to be a long weekend.” She muttered to herself before heading upstairs.
**
“Everything okay Sweets?” Inuyasha asked as Kagome climbed into bed.
“Everything’s simply wonderful.” She smiled and kissed him on the cheek. “Night.”
“Kags…” he said, his voice showing that he knew something was wrong.
“Yash…” she said, mimicking his tone.
“Come on Kaggie… tell snuggle muffin what’s wrong.” Kagome smiled, looking away from Inuyasha.
He was by far the sweetest man she had ever dated. She was pretty sure he was the nicest man she had ever known in general besides her father. How could Sango not like him? She turned to face Inuyasha and he was pouting at her.
“Come on, what’s wrong?”
“I don’t know… I’m just really nervous about this weekend.” She said, sort of lying, sort of not.
“I thought you said your parents would ‘love me’.” Inuyasha made quotes in the air with his fingers.
“They will! I’m sure they will!” Kagome smiled and placed a kiss on his cheek. “I’m sure they will.” She muttered before turning over. “Good night.”
Inuyasha debated continuing the conversation before turning off his lamp and going to bed himself. He would just have to have the conversation some other time.
**
“Seriously babe, what’s been up this week?”
They were headed to Kagome’s parents house, and they had stopped for gas. Sango was inside using the rest room while Kagome was pumping the gas, Inuyasha standing next to her.
Kagome thought about it for a minute and then just blurted it out, “Why haven’t I ever met your friends?” She asked.
“What do you mean haven’t met my friends? You’ve met tons of my friends.”
“I’ve met your colleagues. I’ve never met your friends.”
“My colleagues are my friends.” He stated redundantly.
“No, like the friends you had before this job.” She then added offhandedly, “like Miroku.”
“Miroku?” He smiled as comprehension dawned on him. “This is all about Sango isn’t it?” he asked. “Don’t worry my dear, you will meet Miroku sooner than you think.”
“What are you playing at?” Kagome asked, putting the nozzle back in its place and taking her recite from the gas pump.
“What do you mean? I just mean that you’ll meet him soon. That’s not a rocket science statement.” He smirked and got back into the car.
Kagome got in the passengers seat and stared at him, but mentioned no more on the subject. Sango came back in a few moments later and they were off again.
**
“So, your mum and dad will like me yes?” Inuyasha asked as they approached the shrine driveway.
“For the last time Inuyasha, I’m sure they will love you!” Kagome rolled her eyes and looked out the window.
Inuyasha had been asking for the passed fifty miles the same redundant questions; ‘we can turn around now, if you want.’ ‘Are you sure they’ll like me?’ ‘What if I screw up?’ To be honest Kagome was getting a little more than annoyed at this point.
“Finally.” She smiled looking at the house. “We’re here.” She giggled and bounced up and down in her seat.
“Oh good.” Inuyasha muttered slowing the car down before shutting off the engine.
He has parked the car on a slight incline so he put the e-brake on and sighed. This was going to be a stressful weekend.
