Chapter 4
Getting No Where
Chapter 4
Getting No Where
How to Save a Life
Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came
Where did I go wrong (where did I go wrong), I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up (I would of stayed up) with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right

Between the lines of fear and blame

Flashback
Inuyasha and Kagome lay tangled in each other's limbs, in Kagome's sleeping bag. Both were drenched in sweat and panting like a lion on a hot summer's day. Cloths lay littered all over the camp sight. It was dawn and the ambers from the previous night's fire still had a glow to them. Sango, Miroku and Shippo had decided not to stop for the night and continued on to Kaeda's village.
Neither Kagome nor Inuyasha said anything as they both laid there. Kagome tired and completely drained of energy looked on with a hurt expression as Inuyasha stood up. His perfect naked body glistened in the new day's rays of light as he started to dress, never saying a word.
“Inuyasha?”
“What wrench?”
“What now?”
“Keh, what do you think. We head back to Kaeda's of course. I wanna prepare for the final battle against Naraku. That bastard will pay!” Inuyasha never noticed the unshed tears that pricked the back of Kagome's eyes.
Inuyasha would never get over Kikyo. That was the only reason he wanted to avenge Kikyo.
End Flashback
Kagome stood in front of Onigumo's cave. `If it weren't for that moron- Kikyo would have never been killed, Inuyasha would have never been pinned to the God tree, I would have never been pulled into the well and I never would have been caught up in this mess.'
She looked at a rock lying in front of her. She picked up said object and threw it, with all her might at the cave.
Sighing, she turned around to leave, walking down the path to the village. Kagome pondered on the argument in Kaeda's hut earlier. Kaeda and Sakura where now somewhere training.
Flashback
“Kaeda, I need to go to work, can't you just teach Sakura quickly so we can be on our way?” pleaded Kagome.
“I am sorry child, but it will take much longer then ye assumes. It took me weeks to teach ye control.”
“This is not our world and Sakura starts school soon. My boss won't be happy that I suddenly disappeared off the face of the planet either!” Kagome was getting desperate as it was written all over her face.
“Ye can go back, but Sakura must stay here.” Kaeda said , her eyes foretelling that Kaeda would not be swayed.
“I can't. Isn't there another way, Kaeda?” Kagome sounded utterly defeated.
“I am sorry child, but we both know I am the only one who can help Sakura now.” Kaeda looked onto the young woman with sympathy.
End Flashback
After that Kagome found herself wondering through the village and here she was, still defeated.
~^_^~
Inuyasha watched Kagome from the top of a tree branch. `She is more refined.' He liked that. The wind blew threw her hair. “Beautiful…” he whispered.
Inuyasha sat down in thought. How was he suppose to get Kagome as his mate and more importantly, how was Inuyasha suppose to get the stubborn woman to agree to stay along with their daughter? He didn't want Kagome to go away or take his first and only pup with her. He wanted to get to know Sakura, be a part of Sakura's life.
Inuyasha smirked; Kagome would never hurt her daughter, physically or mentally. If he got closer to Sakura which he desired to do more than anything, then may be Sakura would become too attached and Kagome wouldn't be able to take Sakura away from him because she wouldn't want to go.
`I'm a genius, pure genius,' Inuyasha thought, `I'm getting everything I want- all in one plan!'
~-_-~
Sora had a lot to think about. What did that witch, seer- whatever she was- mean?
`They will call you Virgo, the virgin,' were the weird witch's exact words. Kami, she could strangle that damn witch for being so eluding. The witch didn't even tell her if the plans would go smoothly or if Sora would be triumphant at all!
Her eyes twitched as her face turned red. To say she was frustrated was an understatement.
Why was she even bothering to do this anyway? `Oh yeah,' thought Sora, `because he had to take me as his mate! His own sister; who he didn't even mate with!' It was a huge relief `cause that was just gross.
Sora's mother had killed her father so she could run away with Naraku's father, dragging her along with them. Onigumo was then born, and from him Naraku was born. Her father was a demon, but blinded by his love, didn't see the betrayal that stabbed him in the back. Sora vowed never to be like her weak father. She would never love a man, but then Naraku forcefully marked her as his mate; and she now had no chose, but to try to avenge his death. She had to do damage, though or she'd be the laughing stock of all the demons across the land, even her friends.
“Mi' Lady?” asked Hayato with courtesy in his words, but not actions as he walked in forever disturbing her thoughts.
“What?” Sora snapped back.
“Well isn't someone PMS-ing,” chucked Hayato, “you might want to listen to what I have to say.”
“Why, pray tell me, would I do a thing like that?”
“Because I am your guest, I am paying you handsomely and, Oh I don't know, maybe I have some interesting news that may be of some importance?”
That intrigued Sora, like Hayato knew it would, for she was all ears now.
“Well, spit it out then!”
Hayato spit out the half chewed grape he had just put into his mouth. Looking up at Sora he said innocently, “Well you told me to spit it out.”
Sora just glared and responded with, “Just tell me oh-so-important news!”

Kanna stared as Kagura ate her dinner. It was apparent that Kagura was trying to ignore Kanna's meaning full look. Well, as meaning full as and emotionless expression can get.
“I know why you where late/”
“Oh you do? Well that's nice dear sister.” replied Kagura, taunting her to no end. Kanna acted as if Kagura hadn't said anything.
“And I know why you changed and didn't go straight to Sora.”
“So do I, your point?” challenged Kagura.
“Watch your back. Inuyasha is at peace with Sesshomaru. If Sesshomaru has to choose, he will not hesitate to go against you with Inuyasha.” Kanna watched as Kagura slammed her rice bowl on the table, chop stick flying across the room as Kagura stormed out the door. Kanna shook her head. Her sister knew not of what she was getting into.
~*~*~*~
“Mommy, I'm scared,” cried Sakura.
“Shhhh, baby, it's alright. Mommy's here.” Kagome said soothingly as her hand continued to pet Sakura's forehead. Sakura whimpered.
Inuyasha looked upon the ongoing scene with Sango and Miroku standing behind him.
“You'll be like that soon Sango. I just can't wait.” Inuyasha just couldn't help over hearing Miroku mummer into his wife's ear. It wasn't his fault he had sensitive ears. He turned his attention back to Kagome and his daughter. Sakura was still wearing that ridiculous hat that looked like the one Kagome use to make him wear back in her time. Those were the good times.
“Would you like mommy to sing to you, like I use to?”
Sakura sniffed, “Okay…”
Smiling Kagome sang. Inuyasha had heard he sing in the past, but this was different, it was better, it was- memorizing. Inuyasha stood in a daze staring at Kagome. She was so beautiful.
Far, away from it all, you and me with no one else around… A brand new start is all we need, it's all we need to mend these hearts
Back to the beginning
Back to the beginning
Inuyasha didn't recognize the song. It must be from the future. He lyrics where interesting.
Be still, Let it go
Before we lost hope- When we still touched and love wasn't so hard
Before we lost hope- When we still touched and love wasn't so hard
Inuyasha got the faint feeling that Kagome's words weren't just part of a song.
Be still, I already know
Kagome found herself starting to fill with memories.
Foolish one with the smile, you don't have to be brave, Every time we fall down
But we're falling from grace
But we're falling from grace
She was near tears, but kept on singing. Kagome knew she wasn't just singing a lullaby anymore.
I'll gladly climb your walls if you'll meet me halfway. Slow, slow it down, Why do we run, we're missing so much babe, Just lay in my arms for a while and...
Kagome was reminded of the time her, Inuyasha, Shippo and Miroku were being attacked by spider demons. Inuyasha had laid on her lap in his human form and told her smelled good.
Be still, We should've known
He didn't know what compelled him to do so, but Inuyasha moved forward and knelt down by Sakura as she gave his a sleepy smile.
Foolish one with the smile, you don't have to be brave
Kagome could tell Sakura had finally fallen asleep.
I'll gladly climb your walls if you'll meet me halfway. Every time we fall down, but we're falling from grace
Tears slipped down her cheeks. She knew the song could have referred to her and Inuyasha since it was all she had ever wanted from him.
Here's my hand and my heart it's yours to take, Be still
Inuyasha reached toward Kagome as she allowed him to wipe a tear away from her eye.
“Kagome…” he murmured before he leaned into kiss her.
Kagome saw him coming and moved her head so Inuyasha ended up kissing her cheek. More tears streamed down her face as Kagome whispered don't and ran out the door.
Inuyasha got up and followed calling out to her. He grabbed her wrist when they reached the edge of the forest and spun her around.
“We need to talk,” Inuyasha saw Kagome was about to say no and sighed, “Kagome it's just a talk, I'm not going to bite.”
“So says you.” Kagome said under her breath yet Inuyasha heard it none the less.
They stared at each other until Inuyasha turned away, “Why?”
“Huh?” asked Kagome startled. She hadn't expected him to ask her that.
“You heard me,” was his reply as he awaited Kagome's defense, but none came. And just when he was about to turn away, she spoke up.
“I have my reasons. One of them happened to be you and another was I couldn't just stick around here anymore. I had a life somewhere else and I wasn't about to hang around here while you were still pinning after Kikyo.” Kagome's voice started to rise as she went on and got more emotional.
“I…I- ,” Inuyasha couldn't say a thing. Sure he was mourning for Kikyo, but is that the only reason she left?
“I what, Inuyasha?” Kagome snapped back at him.
“I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THAT IS THE FUCKING REASON WHY YOU LEFT!!! And after we had sex and after you got pregnant, not even bothering to tell me!' Inuyasha yelled. He just couldn't take it anymore after she snapped at him, “Oh, yeah- real mature, wretch!”
“Look who's talking,” retorted Kagome as she stuck her tongue out at him.
“Right back at ya.”
“Right back at YOU!”
“No, I said you!”
“Baka!”
“Wretch!”
“Look, it was wrong for you not to tell me about my child.”
“And it was wrong of you to not mention anything after the sex!”
“Well it was wrong of you to be so careless!”
“Me being careless? You were careless too, Inuyasha!”
“You were being more careless and stupid for not asking me for help!”
“Kami, I am not a damsel in distress, I don't need your damn help all the time!”
“I never said you did, but apparently you do since I was always saving you! And what the hell is a damsel?”
“Oh, shut up!”
“Make me!”
“You egotistical moron!
“And you're a bitch.”
“Ahhhhh!” Kagome screamed out in frustration. Inuyasha just smirked and `kehed' like usual.
They stared at each other again. Then Kagome turned on her heel, walking away with nothing resolved. Inuyasha just squeezed his eyes shut and messaged his temples. He had forgotten how stubborn she actually was. `Why'd she even come?' thought Inuyasha.
`That was pointless, why'd I even come?' thought Kagome.
Inuyasha stayed up all night watching over Kagome. She use to be his best friend, where had things gone wrong?
