CHAPTER 6: GIRLS LIKE TO DRESS UP AND BOYS LIKE TO DROOL
"Kagome's got a date! She's got a date!" yelled a giggling Souta, zooming down the halls. A beet red and fuming Kagome followed in his wake.
"I swear to god Souta, if you don't shut up, you won't live to see your first date!" fed up, Kagome short cut through the kitchen, running past her chuckling mother, and cut Souta off in the living room. They trapped the couch between them, Souta going the opposite direction Kagome would head. Steaming in embarrassment, Kagome huffed and pounced over the couch. She caught the panicked boy's ankle and pinned him to the floor. She trapped his wrists over his head and threw her hair to the side in triumph.
"Say you're sorry, and it's not a date, or you won't make it to puberty," she ordered form her position.
Souta wriggled under her, "get off! And forget it! You can kiss~"
"Now, now don't get testy," Kagome grinned and delighted in the way Souta struggled.
"All right kids. Kagome get up, and you can't kill your brother," their mother came in, amusement bright in her eyes, "go on, you have to get ready."
Holding her head in pride, Kagome gracefully got off a raging Souta and put her hands on her hips. Clad in her tank top and shorts, Kagome crossed her arm as Souta stuck out his tongue. She turned back around but hissed as Souta said the last word.
"Yeah, go get ready for you date." He laughed mischievously as Kagome whirled around to try and catch him again, but he easily evaded her grasp and ran outside. Wanting to screech her frustration, she stormed past her snickering mom and headed to her room.
Throwing on some pants and a sweater, Kagome put her out fit for the dance in a bag and skipped downstairs again.
"Mom! I'm going to Sango's to get ready!" not waiting for the reply, she slipped on her shoes and strode out the door.
It was just a bit chilly, with the clouds refusing the sun's light. Breezes whispered past trees and ruffled her hair. Visibly relaxing, Kagome hurried down the shrine steps to the street, where a piece of paper floated by. Maybe she could find some peace at her friend's. Kagome turned the corner and right there was Sango's house. It was quite large, three stories, and was a soft light blue. The flowerbeds in the front were thanks to Sango's mother, who was like an older replica of Sango, except she had blue eyes. The shutters on every floor were lavender blue, and the gravel of the drive way crunched under her feet. Feeling at home, Kagome opened the door to a very unpleasant scene. Obviously, the peace she was looking for wasn't here.
Kohaku, Sango's little brother, came racing down the entry hall, a piece of paper fluttering in his hand. He grinned happily, his freckles bunching on his cheeks, as he slid on the hard wood floor and took a left. Sango followed, infuriated. She skidded and went after the elusive brother.
"Kohaku, give it back!" she hollered, chasing him to the connecting room.
"But I want to read it! `My dearest Sango, you have no idea how happy~'" Kohaku was cut short as Sango surprised him, but he dodged and went speeding through the house.
Kagome sighed and hung her head a second. Then she calmly walked her way to the kitchen, where Mrs. Taijiya was smirking broadly and pouring a glass of milk for Rin. Rin, the youngest, sat at the table eating a few cookies, chatting happily despite the threats and comments "get back here you demon brat from hell!", she giggled as Mr. Taijiya, Sango's father, sipped a cup of coffee and, barely ignoring the sounds the siblings were resounding through the house, reading the paper.
"Oh hello, Kagome dear, I thought I heard the door open." Sango's mother greeted her and rolled her eyes as she heard something crash. They better not be near the laundry room.
"Hello, I was here hoping to get ready with Sango, but it looks like she'll be a while." Kagome winced as she heard something topple to the floor.
Mrs. Taijiya laughed, "don't worry I think its dying down."
"Ah! Stop, that hurts!" Kokaku cried from the sitting room.
"It serves you right twerp!" Sango yelled. Muttering under her breath, Sango came into the kitchen and slipped the paper into her pocket. At least she got to twist the hell out of his ear. She blinked when she saw Kagome. "Oh hi. Sorry I was busy."
"I noticed," Kagome snorted. Grinning Sango led her upstairs to her room. A flowery scent wafted from the room when she opened the door, and entered the pink paradise. The walls were a light pink that matched her desk, and the bedspread was a dark rosy pink, with a white boa coiled around the head broad.
Back to normal, Sango walked over to her full-length mirror. "So, got your stuff?"
Kagome nodded and took out the garments. On Sango's bed, a pretty outfit was laid out. Sango took her hand and led her to the connecting bathroom.
"Come on, let's do our hair first, then our make up." Nodding Kagome reached under the double sink and pulled out different hair spays and mousse. Sango plugged in the hair drier and curler. Working for almost an hour, their hairstyles were finally perfect. Kagome pulled her locks up into a loose bun, using the curler to make perfect spirals of the hanging tendrils. Sango had to help her bobby pin it up. Sango on the other hand, let down her long hair, using the drier to give it volume and then a brush to help form bologna curls that framed her face.
Satisfied, they worked on each other's faces. To match her out fit, Kagome applied bright pink eye shadow, and lightly layered a bit of green over that to make it look like it blended in. she outlined the eyelids with silver eyeliner and applied mascara. A bit of blush n the cheeks and some pink lip-gloss finished it up. Sango's turn, she applied foundation and powder. Since she knew what Kagome was wearing, she spread baby blue eye shadow over her eyes, and lined and blended it with silver. She gave it a bit or glitter, and gave Kagome a clear lip-gloss.
Dolled up, they girls chatted as they put on their dance clothes. Going with the theme for dancing, Kagome picked out some kaki cargo pants and a baby blue tank top. Over that, she pulled over a white fishnet top. Careful of her hair, she put on her baby blue hat just right so it held and covered most of her hair. On the lip of the hat was a sparkling `k'. Lastly, she slipped in a pair of white and blue Converse, and some silver bracelets.
Sango wore a bright pink and green top, half green and pink in a diagonal design, and the sleeves ended like a hippie shirt. Form fitting dark blue hip huggers shoed off her legs and she put on pink and white Air forces, sliver chains dangling from her ears neck and one wrist.
Kagome pulled on her white sweater, and they hurried down stairs. It was fifteen minutes till the dance. The came into the kitchen giggling, and Sango's father whistled and commented about "these mysterious pretty young ladies".
"So when are the boys arriving to pick up my beautiful daughter and her lovely friend," Mr. Taijiya twirled Sango around, making her giggle. The doorbell rang. "Well, that answers my question."
He left to answer it and Kagome and Sango waited nervously. Despite what they think, in the back of their minds they knew this was a date. Kagome's stomach fluttered. What would he think? Sango just wished she wouldn't blush like mad.
"Oh ladies, your escorts are here," Sango's father called. Giggling silently, they whispered closely to each other, schoolgirls happily nervous.
They turned the corner to find Inuyasha and Miroku patiently waiting for them, sending amused glances at the girl's father. Miroku wore black jeans and under shirt, and a bark blue over shirt with what looked like a smoky design, and tan Tim's. Inuyasha wore baggy blue jeans, white Nike's, and a red over shirt over his white one, blazing flames flashing the bright design. He wore a red bandana over his ears, pinning them to his head. It would help muffle the loud music. When they saw the girls, they couldn't help but stare. Miroku couldn't help but scan Sango's form, smiling slyly before her father cleared his throat loudly. Inuyasha especially liked Kagome outfit, it was different and not so girly. She'd be able to move freely in it. As the boys continued to gaze, the girls blushed slightly and whispered to each other.
"Have fun Sango." Kagome whispered playfully.
"I know you will," Sango countered.
Mr. Taijiya let them have their peace for a second, but when it seemed that no one was going to say anything, he cleared his throat, causing Miroku to jump and the other's snap to attention.
Taking up his old charm, Miroku walked to Sango, took her hand and kissed it. "You look positively lovely." She blushed hugely, and her father nodded approvingly.
Kagome walked up to Inuyasha, making him all the more attentive to her scent. "Hey there, you ready to go? Cause I am ready to dance!" she laughed and wiggled her hips, Inuyasha unconsciously following them.
"I know!" Sango chirped. "Lets go!"
She pecked her father on the cheek and headed out. He waved to the couples amused. They waved back and headed down the drive. The girl's gasped as they saw the car. It was a gorgeous silver Mercedes, with black leather interior.
"My parents let me borrow it for the night. Shall we go?" Miroku bowed and held his arm out to the car all gentle man like. The girls got in the back excitedly, and the fellas got up front. Miroku brought the vehicle to a purring start and music blasted from the radio. The girl singing to one of their favorite songs, the sped out the driveway to the dance.
