CHAPTER 36: THE BEACH HOUSE

Inuyasha honked his horn, making that blaring sound when he held it down. He hated waiting for slow people. He stayed down on the horn until Miroku smacked his hands away from the wheel.

"Are you trying to give me ear drum damage?" Miroku asked, fingering one ear. Inuyasha grunted and ignored him. He hit the horn a few times, making Miroku curse at him.

Kagome came out of Sango's front door, glaring. "Give us a second Mr. Antsy Pants! She can't leave without her house keys!"

Inuyasha grumbled needlessly, earning a glare form Miroku. Kagome huffed and went to go inside, but Sango popped out, keys in hand. "got'em! Come on, let's go!"

"Do your parents know?" Kagome asked, hopping into the jeep first, sitting in back.

Sango nodded, but smiled, "well, my mom knows. She's going to tell my dad I'm spending a couple weeks with some girlfriends."

Kagome narrowed her eyes and grinned, "you sly bitch."

Sango looked flattered, "oh why thank you. Now come on! I want to get out of here and onto those beaches!"

Inuyasha put on his shades, and the girls laughed as he sped away, tires spinning. One driver honked at them as Inuyasha cut him off, and Kagome smacked him upside the head. He only grinned as they got on the highway, and sped up. The girls sat on the top of their seats, letting the wind blow their hair back. The top was gone and packed into the back, with their luggage on top of it. Inuyasha hadn't allowed them anything more than a large duffel bag. So of course, Kagome and Sango took twice as long to pack. But they were happy nonetheless. I mean, they were going to be spending two weeks in a private beach house!! So no complaints here. Sango had gotten so excited, but Miroku just waved it off. His friends knew for certain though, he was boosting his own ego.

"So Miroku," Kagome raised her voice, leaning in between the front seats, "what does this place look like?"

"Well," Miroku looked thoughtful, but grinned, "its pretty big, two floors. There's a beach out back, privately owned, and there's a boardwalk down in town. We'll be there in time for the fair."

"Really?" Sango leaned in too.

"Yep, it's where all the rides are open. They close the boardwalk the day before so they can make sure all the rides are in perfect working order. Don't worry girls, we're gonna have fun no matter what."

Kagome and Sango looked at each other, and quickly switched seats, so Sango was behind her man now. She leaned he head in close to his ear nearest the outside and started whispering. Kagome giggled as Miroku turned a nice shade of red and fidgeted in his seat. Sango only grinned and went on, her hand coming up the other side to tease his shirt collar. Inuyasha raised his brow.

"Do I even want to know?"

Kagome shook her head, "nope, we don't want any accidents."

The ride in total was three hours. During that time, they stopped once for snacks and bathroom break. Kagome fell asleep once in the front seat, leaving Miroku and Sango to play in the back. But Inuyasha had to separate them with a few swerves when things got a bit serious. He would have none of that in his new car, unless it was him and Kagome. By the time they came upon the exit, almost everyone was asleep, and Inuyasha was sipping soda for energy against the boring ride. But he saw the exit and reached back to shake Miroku.

"Alright Miroku, where are we going?"

Miroku sat up with a yawn and looked around sleepily. Sango groaned in protest and sat up too. "Um…go down all the way, it's at the dead end."

Inuyasha nodded and went all the way down, glancing distastefully at all the more expensive looking house that were wide apart. He just hoped that he didn't have to live like that for the two weeks. It was bad enough he had to all year. But he was pretty surprised when he came upon the one at the end.

Sango's eyes went wide, "oh wow…"

When the jeep jerked to a stop, Kagome woke up mumbling something about `cows' and `evil stuffed monkeys'. Inuyasha only blinked at her.

She yawned and stretched, "we there yet?"

"Yeah, we are, take a look," Inuyasha said and got out of the car.

Kagome looked up and her mouth hung open. No it wasn't like the other houses of the area; no it was more elegant than flashy. There were a few palm trees, but they were short and subtle, not the tall ones you'd see in Hollywood. The house itself was subtle, white paneling and rails, the ground floor sunken in under the second floor patios. There was a one-door garage, and they saw French doors with sheer white curtains on the inside on the second floor. They saw wooden steps leading away from the house, and guessed it lead to the beach.

"Well," Miroku walked up and put his hands in his pockets, turning to them with a smile, "mi casa es su casa."

The girls cheered and ran to the front door, jumpily waiting for somebody to open the door. Miroku came up with the keys and they hurried him to unlock the friggin door. They rushed in when he did, leaving the guys to shake their head sadly. Kagome gasped and Sango twirled around happily.

"Oh my god Miroku!" Kagome breathed, "This place is beautiful!"

They walked into the living room, and felt the lush carpet under their feet. The couches were clean, but worn, used for years. They all faced a large screen TV, with DVD, VCR, and Playstation. Two French doors bordered the TV, and they took a right to the kitchen, that was navy and white tile, clean table and island with draws. The girls squealed in delight and raced up the stairs to see. Sango took the room on the right, and Kagome left. The guys heard simultaneous cries. Sango's room was a tropic paradise, with an island paint job, and canopy bed with sheer curtains. There were plush pillows, and a low hammock in the corner. She rushed to the bathroom and fluttered her hands. It was midnight blue tile, with a separate shower stall, and huge bathtub. The sinks shined like silver and little blue hand towels hung above larger towels.

Back with Kagome, she looked upon a calm sandy room, with tan carpet and a tan yellow and white wavy design on the walls. There was another canopy bed with off-white sheets and curtains. There was no standing furniture, just cushions in the shape of it, and she ran to the bathroom to find white tile and gold towel bars, white marble shower stall and step in tub with jets, and gold leaf sinks. Excited, the girls ran back out and met each other, locking hands.

"OH MY GOD!!!" they yelled and burst into giggles. The guys just looked at each other and rolled their eyes. Girls.

Sango came racing down the stairs and fly at Miroku, knocking him down hard, all the while placing kisses all over his face.

"Miroku this place is great! I can't believe I'm spending two weeks here! With you nonetheless!"

Kagome and Inuyasha took it upon themselves to laugh madly while Sango ranted on and on about the house, ragging her poor boyfriend from room to room. By the time she was done, Miroku was ready to pass out. But Sango had other plans. She whispered to Kagome, who rolled her eyes and took Inuyasha to the living to blast the TV, while Sango conveniently took Miroku to their self claimed room. By the time they came down, the other two were eating take out and watching the American show Six Feet Under. Least to say, it was a bit embarrassing.

Sango looked to him apologetically, taking in his ruffled hair and annoyed twitch. "I'm sorry! I just can't seem to keep my hands to myself."

"I really didn't need to know that," Inuyasha said, swallowing some fried rice. Kagome gave him a look, and he hung his head. "Shut up."
