Dream a Little Dream

A/N & Summery: Kagome gets turned into a demon by a curse and needs help controlling her new abilities. Inuyasha thinks she stinks so who can help her control her new `canine senses'? (Kou/Kag)

CHAPTER ONE

It was always the same. A shard always equaled a massacred village and a fight. The tiny woodland village they were in crackled and burned with red and gold flames under the dim light of the quarter moon low in the western sky. Inuyasha and the others were busy with Naraku who was, as always, being evil. Kagome was keeping his temporary demon puppet busy with her arrows.

She lifted her bow and as she strung her last arrow every shot had missed the demon so far since he was very swift. She lifted it to eye level, when the white furred wolf-like demon abruptly growled in almost a poetic tenor, "Little girl with your bow, I will tell and you shall know, Should your arrow hit its mark, a curse on you shall never part. My curse shall pass on she who kills me, and that curse on one who kills her!"

Shocked, Kagome let loose her arrow before she could stop herself. It flew straight into the demon's heart and he exploded into a blazing ball of azure flames. He screamed aloud in agony for one split second as the fire burned from the inside out. Then there was only the sound of a blistering inferno. Kagome felt a strange tingling sensation flicker through her veins, then it was gone. Naraku laughed and gave his usual disappearing act after glaring evilly at the group. Inuyasha turned to Kagome and asked, "You alright?" She nodded after she checked herself for any injuries.

After burying the dead villagers the group continued on their journey as normally. The same normal Miroku trying to grope Sango. The same bruises he received for trying to lay a hand on her. Finally they found a place to stay the night. They set up a fire and after a lot of pleading on Inuyasha's part Kagome began to cook some ramen. Halfway through her nose twitched, then she wrinkled her nose in distaste, she had caught the sent of something that reeked of sweat, blood, grime, and something else, "Kami! What is that disgusting smell!?" she asked choking in the smoky air.

"What smell?" Sango asked sniffing the air experimentally, not detecting anything.

Kagome took another whiff and suddenly stared at Inuyasha and began to laugh, "What's so damn funny!?" he demanded getting annoyed.

"When was the last time you took a bath Inuyasha? You reek all the way from over there." She giggled.

"I had a bath three weeks ago. What's the problem with that?" he asked.

"Well we've had like twenty battles since then and I think the next spring we come across it's bath time for you. You smell like sweat, blood, and something else that smells kinda funny." She smiled again and said, "Let's just say if a certain wolf demon comes by and complains that you stink, I'll have to take his side."

Inuyasha crossed his arms and scowled but didn't say a word. After eating they went to their respective sleeping spots and started to drift off to sleep. All except for Kagome. For some reason she was feeling very restless. For some reason, maybe the air was clear this high in this meadow or something, she could smell the night air and hear many little animals scampering around the meadow floor. It felt like someone had taken plugs out of her ears that had been there since she was born and smelt like she had her nose plugged all her life with cotton balls and suddenly let go of her nose. She opened her eyes to look at the stars to count them so she could take her mind of the noise and smells. Her eyes widened, even though she had moderately good night vision before, she could not believe the thousands of new stars that she could see now. She drifted off into a dark sleep.

The next morning, Kagome woke up to a cutting backache. Nothing major, just a throbbing, numb pain at her lower back. She rubbed her spine as best she could and was trying to sooth its pain, when she brushed past something soft and furry. Her eyes widened and she pulled at the fuzzy thing. The numb pain turned acute and ripped up her spine to the back of her neck. She bit her lip to stop herself from screaming in pain. She prodded the soft thing then brought it up front to examine. In her hand, connected to her spine was a long, black wolf tail. She blinked at it for about ten seconds then let out an ear piercing shriek that shook the trees.

Kouga inhaled the wind coming at him in surprise. He grimaced, ick, a dog. A dog known as Inuyasha. But where the puppy was, his woman, Kagome, was sure to be. He smelled the human priest, the demon slayer, the little fox kit, then caught Kagome and a different sent, a wolf demon with her. He glared at the sent. What was another wolf demon doing here? The group was nowhere near a different tribe's land. He growled, an intruder… with Kagome as well! His woman's sent mixed with the demons. How dare that thing get close to her! With a final growl he burst off towards the group determined to find them before that…baka low-level wolf tried anything with Kagome!

Before long evening drew to a close and Kouga was within a mile of the group. They were in a forest with a rather large lake within it. He followed their sent to the lake. The lake was cut in half with some tall rocks through the middle. The male half of the group was on the left, on the right was where the females swam. Kouga froze. No way was he going to get downwind of the lake. The puppy would smell him and get mad then so would his woman for `peeping'. He decided to wait until they were through with cleansing themselves. A half an hour later the group was returning to their camp. He looked amongst them for his woman and nearly fell over in amazement.

The woman standing with them was definitely Kagome. But she wasn't human. He took a cautious sniff and was surprised to find the wolf demon he had smelled that was so close to Kagome was Kagome! Kagome had the same body and face shape, but she now had wolfish ears on the top of her head and sharp claws. Wagging high was a black wolf tail. Kouga fought off the urge to attack her. Not even he was so powerful of a wolf demon that he dared to do that. If a male raised his tail, they were claiming to be undefeatable, if a woman did it they were claiming to be willing to bear anyone's cubs.

She and the puppy were arguing.

"Will you shut up about me smelling! I'm not complaining about you!" she fumed.

"But it's hurting my nose." He said glaring at her seriously.

"Don't you dare over exaggerate, Inuyasha! Besides this is not my fault, may I remind you! I didn't ask to be cursed!"

"Couldn't you have been cursed as a dog at least?"

"Do you think I control what a curse will do to me!? Why are you being so mean!" she demanded.

"Because the smell is getting on my nerves! If you couldn't detect shards in this form, I'd have gone to Kikyo yesterday!" he said covering his face.

"Sit!"

He sat. But since they were on a slope he fell backwards and rolled and crashed down until there was a gigantic splash, indicating he was now in the lake. Kagome turned to the others and said, "I'm going for a walk. I'll be back in about an hour." With that she turned and walked into the woods.

Now was Kouga's chance. He followed behind her until they were well out of hearing range then jumped in front of her and said, "Hello. How are you this evening, my Kagome?" he asked grinning a bit when he saw the surprise that flashed across her face.

The surprise soon turned into a contemplating frown. She shrugged and said, "I've had a really bad day, Kouga. A wolf demon under Naraku's control cursed me and now I'm a demon. Inuyasha's complaining constantly about how I smell, and he thinks a walking corpse smells better than me. My newly sharpened senses are overwhelming me and I don't know what to do to loosen it up because Inuyasha's refused to help out."

Kouga frowned. Damn that puppy! She did not smell bad, even by dog demon to wolf demon standards. Well if Inuyasha didn't want to help his woman get used to her new body than he would, "Don't worry. I'll help you out with getting used to your senses. Besides, that puppy wouldn't be able to help you anyway. Wolf senses are much more sensitive than any dog's."

Kagome was going to object, but saw the need to help her in his eyes. Like he was pleading without the words. "Alright, Kouga. And thank you." She smiled a bit for him and turned aside to fiddle with her tail.

"First lesson. When you're walking along or actually doing anything, keep your tail lowered." He warned.

"What for?"

"For your self protection. Wagging a tail like that is basically saying you'll willingly fuck anyone who offers some." He said, "And if you don't take their offer most likely they'll do it anyway."

She gulped and lowered it and sighed inwardly. She was going to need lots of lessons it seemed. "Thanks for the tip. Anything else?"

"You say that your sensed are overwhelming. Try to focus your hearing, sight and smell to one thing. You'll still be able to sense other things. But they won't be overpowering."

Kagome looked at Kouga. Since he was giving her a lesson she might as well give him all her attention. His scent made her blink in surprise. There was a woodsy scent that covered him since he was always outdoors, for some reason she could also tell he had eaten a rabbit that morning, taken a bath the previous night, and she could tell he was happy right now. His heart was raised a bit and his breathing was deep, as if he where trying to keep his racing heart in check. She took in all of him with her eyes. His long black hair, steely blue eyes, toned tanned skin, and delicately pointed ears. And that brought up her next question.

"Why are my ears like Inuyasha's and not yours?" Kagome asked curiously.

"Female Wolf Demon ears change throughout the month. Actually they change to accommodate their menstrual cycles. If your ears are like that it means you aren't going to bear pups if you decide to get laid. If your ears are pointed like mine it means you will probably get pregnant. Ayame was definitely ready and waiting for someone, or me rather, to give her a family of puppies."

"I'm starting to think I've got a lot to learn." She muttered sleepily, yawning widely, "Can we do more lessons tomorrow? I'm sleepy and I need to get back to camp."

"I'll come with you if you want."

"Okay." They returned to camp and Kagome found no trace of Inuyasha anywhere. After a meal of ramen noodles (with Kouga complementing her cooking). They each drifted respectively off to sleep. So when Inuyasha crept in, in the middle of the night, after all embers of the fire had disappeared, only Kagome noticed. She directed her senses to him and smelled a variety of things. One. For dinner he'd eaten some wild pig. Two. He smelt of something musty and heated. Three. All over him was the scent of a pleasant rain, earth and fire scent. Kikyou. She didn't smell bad at all. And Four. He smelt of content.
