Lords and Angels:
Chapter 14: Family or Love?
"Inuyasha's father?" Kagome had only heard the name once, but she was pretty sure that she knew who he was.
"Indeed," he stated.
"Is there something I can do for you?"
"You can tell me where my boy is."
"I am sorry Sir. I don't know where he is," she replied. That's partially true. She thought to herself, I don't know if he is in the living room, or the kitchen, maybe the bathroom.
"But I think you do." he walked closer to Kagome, causing her to back against the window.
"I am sorry Sir, I have to go now." she tried to get passed the man, but he didn't allow her to get by. He blocked her every time she tried to dodge.
"Please Sir, I really need to be getting home."
"Not until you tell me where my boy is." his voice was menacing.
"I told you, I don't know."
"Does he love you?" Kagome thought that was a very random question, and she didn't know how to answer. "I don't think he is capable of loving. Though he does seem to have a thing for slutty women." the man looked Kagome over. Her dress was a little lower cut then she usually wore, but was by no means reason to assume she was a slut.
"Excuse me, are you implying that you believe I am a slut? I don't appreciate that." as the man came closer she added, "Sir," trying to not sound frightened.
"I don't care what you appreciate missy. I just want to know where my son is!" Kagome couldn't back up any further and Inutaishou was only inches away from her face.
§¤§¤§¤ Kagome's House:
"Hey Souta, you guys are home late. Did you have clean up Kagome?" Inuyasha called from the living room when he heard the door open.
"Hi Inuyasha. Kagome didn't pick me up from school, so I got a ride home with Arima's mother." Souta explained walking into the living room.
"Oh, where is Kagome?" Inuyasha sat up in the chair he had been lounging in.
"I don't know. She just never showed up." Souta threw his back pack on the couch and sat down on the floor. "Can I play video games?" he asked Inuyasha.
"Yeah, sure. Will you be okay alone for a few minutes? I want to see if she's left school yet." Souta turned on his video game console and nodded his head. "All right, I'll be right back." with that Inuyasha began his walk to the school.
He arrived at the school and noticed Kagome's car in the parking lot. He went into the gym, knowing that some of Kagome's friends were on the cheerleading team, and thinking one of them might know where she was.
"Hey Miki right?" he asked who seemed to be the Captain.
"Yeah, take five girls. What can I do for you?" she asked, taking a drink from a Poland Spring water bottle.
"Have you seen Kagome? Did she mention any after school plans?" he asked.
"I asked her if she would help me clean up the science labs, but other then that no. She did seem in a hurry to leave school, but last time I saw her she was still in the lab. Sorry." Miki explained.
"Oh, no problem thanks." Inuyasha turned and left the gym. "Guess its off to the Science Labs." Inuyasha muttered to himself as he jogged up the stair case.
§¤§¤§¤ Science labs
"Please leave me alone. I don't know where Inuyasha is and I have nothing against you, so let me go!" Inutaishou grabbed onto Kagome's wrists.
"I know, you are hiding him somewhere. He wasn't at Mirkou's or Shippo's or any of his other lame excuses for friends. You are the only one left girlie!"
"Let me go, I swear I'll scream. Let me go," Kagome tried to wiggle out of the man's grasp, but the more she fought the more he held his ground.
"Tell me!" the man didn't bother to keep his voice down.
"Let me go!" Kagome refused to give up the information, no matter what the cost. The man held both of her hands in one of his, and with his free hand he grasped the girls neck.
"All you have to do, for me to let you go, is simply say where you are hiding my boy." Kagome's eyes streamed a river of tears as she fought to get the man away.
"Kagome, you still here?" Inuyasha had walked into every science room, arriving at the fourth room, he opened the door and peered inside.
"Inuyasha... he is here..." she had heard his voice calling in the room beside them. Inutaishou didn't seem to notice the interruption.
"Kagome.. What the fuck are you doing?!" Inuyasha had opened the classroom door and saw Kagome being strangled by his father.
"Oh son, there you are." the man immediately released Kagome and she fell to the floor, gasping for air. She gently rubbed her neck, watching to see what would happen.
"What in the world do you think you are doing!?" Inuyasha yelled at his father, but immediately ran over to Kagome, almost ignoring his fathers presence. "Are you okay? Can you breathe? Can you move at all?"
"I'll be okay. I'm fine." Kagome had steadied her breathing. Inuyasha gently touched her cheek and she tried to smile at him, but her smile quickly turned in to a look of horror. "Inuyasha!" she attempted to scream but her wild pointing and horrified look cause Inuyasha to whip around anyway. His father was standing above him holding a chair over his head.
Inuyasha dodged the chair, barely. "Get out of here Kagome. It isn't safe." Kagome hesitated, "just go wench!" Kagome ran to the other end of the room but didn't leave, she sat in the corner and watched.
"I thought you were away on business." Inuyasha stated in a would-be-calm manner.
"I came back. I couldn't stand to think that our family was falling apart." Inutaishou's voice was in a mocking sensitive manner.
"You just wanted to get me out of the way before I did something drastic," Inuyasha waved his hands dramatically, as he stated the word 'drastic'.
"Indeed."
"Well, I wont do anything drastic, if you just admit that you are an asshole, and that you killed my mother." Inuyasha's anger was once again building.
"I admit it. It is no secret. You figured that out all on your own, so obviously it wasn't a difficult thing to realize."
Inuyasha gave a sarcastic smile at the insult, he didn't speak a word however as he lunged at Inutaishou.
The man easily averted his attacks, Inuyasha had horrible form, and went around slashing at anything in his way. He did manage to get in a few swift hits, causing his father to double over. Inuyasha's accuracy might have been lacking, but his strength was never better. Inutaishou picked up the podium, with which the teacher lectured from, and hurled it across the room at his son. Inuyasha ducked as the podium clanged loudly against the wall, a few pieces off wood flying from the object. Inutaishou gave up with trying to hit Inuyasha with objects, he instead cornered him and resolved to kicking violently and punching at Inuyasha's rib's. Inuyasha, still injured from his father's previous beating only a few days ago, easily succumb to his fathers abuse. A few good punches by Inutaishou and Inuyasha was on the floor gasping for air.
"Inuyasha!" Kagome came out of her hiding place, that was in the corner of the room, and ran to the boy.
"I'm... fine.." his breathing was ragged, but he managed a weak smile. "I... told... you... to leave" he spoke again.
"I know, I am sorry. We have to get you to a doctor, this doesn't look healthy." Kagome was checking him over, being able to easily see his stomach through his ripped shirt.
"You let that filthy slut touch you?" Inutaishou asked in disgust.
"Move Kagome," Inuyasha stood up and walked into the center of the room, where is father was gasping for breath. Inuyasha's stubbornness was going to get him killed. However, Kagome complied with his request and ran off to the safe corner she had grown to love.
Inutaishou walked towards Inuyasha, who stopped walking then, his father advanced steadily on him.
"This will be the last time I ever have to deal with a snotty brat!" Inutaishou took another menacing step toward Inuyasha. He felt the cold glass, that was the classroom's full length window.
"fuck," he muttered under his breath. Kagome stood up, not wanting to sit there and do nothing.
"Leave him alone!" Kagome ran up to Inutaishou, she knew she was weak, and had no rational thought as to what she was doing. Inuyasha stood, completely paralyzed at her actions. Inutaishou laughed demonically before easily taking Kagome out with one hit to the head, rendering her unconscious.
"You," that was all Inuyasha could say before his father was back on him, advancing.
Inuyasha made to hit his father, but he was too quick. Suddenly, it were as though there was a new opponent in the room. His father dodged, and punched almost simultaneously, a task that Inutaishou had never accomplished before. Inuyasha averted his father's attacks while still clinging to the ideal that he had to avenge his mothers death. Another blow to the ribs, at least two were broken, he could feel it. Once again Inuyasha was backed against the window. Inuyasha braced himself as his father ran to him. Inuyasha couldn't counter, he was too weak, he did the only thing he could think of, he ducked, and prayed. He felt two hundred some odd pounds collide against his body, mere seconds before he heard the sound of shattering glass, and felt jagged edges falling onto his body.
Inuyasha opened his eyes, his father had vanished from the room. He stood up and looked out the window to see what had happened. He looked away in disgust as he saw his father's body, turned into nothing more then a splatter on the sidewalk.
His father hadn't been able to stop his quickened pace in time to avoid collision with the window, he had run directly into his son, but flipped over in the process, hurling himself out the window.
Inuyasha ran to Kagome, having not forgotten she was laying unconscious. He picked her head up slightly off the floor to rest on his knees and gently tapped her cheek, trying to wake her up. That seemed to do the trick as she stirred slowly. She sat bolt up-right after a few moments of looking around the classroom.
"Inuyasha!" her arms flew around Inuyasha's neck, mindful of his injuries, and she began to sob.
"It's okay. It's okay, Shh, its over, it's okay." he held her closely, rocking her slowly back and forth. The sound of an ambulance and many police cars could be heard gather outside the window. The only thought in Kagome's head was shouldn't I be comforting him?
§¤§¤§¤ Police Station
Inuyasha led Kagome down the stairs and out to where the police were gathered. They saw Inuyasha and immediately swarmed around him, having barely identified the body as Inutaishou.
Inuyasha was brought to the hospital to be treated for his injuries, while Kagome was brought to the police station for questioning. The police station was a three story building, with eerie stone steps creeping up to the top. Kagome was led by Sergeant San-Holme into interrogation room three. Kagome had sent one of the police officers to her house to watch her little brother, and Sergeant San-Holme had contacted her mother. After the questioning process, which lasted more then two hours as detectives forced out every possible detail of the afternoons events, Kagome's mother came into the interrogation room; where Kagome sat alone.
"Oh Kagome," there was a sadness in her voice as she ran to her daughter. Motherly instinct got the best of her as she checked over the young girl for injuries, pushing stray hairs away from Kagome's face.
"I am okay mom," Kagome tried to say, still worried about Inuyasha.
"I told you not to hang out with his kind of," she stuttered, looking for the right word, "riffraff!"
"Jesus mother! Inuyasha could have been killed. Have you any idea what he did? You have no idea what has happened to him. You don't even try to care do you? Inuyasha is the sweetest person I've ever met, and you hate him! Why?" Kagome was now standing and yelling at her mother for being so insensitive.
"Now listen to me! If you hadn't gotten mixed up with that little hoodlum you would be safe at home right now and not mixed up in his horrible affairs. Now get your things, I am taking you home!" her mother turned and walked out the door. Kagome grabbed her jacket, which was positioned over the back of the chair, and her backpack, which was next to the chair, before following her mother out the door.
§¤§¤§¤ Hospital
"I already told you a hundred times. What more can I say?" Inuyasha pleaded. The detectives had resorted to pestering him in the hospital. It turned out only one of his ribs were actually broken, three were bruised. His wrist was also sprained.
"I am just trying to get everything I can. You say you believe he killed your mother," the detective nodded, as though mentally checking off items he listed, "beat you many times before, and threatened your female friend."
"Yes," Inuyasha replied simply. The painkillers the doctor had given him were making him drowsy, and reliving the days events wasn't helping.
"I say this is definitely self defense." Sergeant San-Holme was now in the hospital talking with Inuyasha. Most likely comparing stories.
"It is most likely. Sakura had complained of her husbands behavior about a month before her death." the other man, Detective Mori, was conversing with Sergeant San-Holme. Even though they were whispering, it wasn't hard to hear what they were saying in the small room.
"Thank you Inuyasha. We will probably come by around two o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Thank you for your time." Sergeant San-Holme offered a small smile as he departed, where as Detective Mori remained strict and reserved.
Inuyasha sat alone in his room. It was small, barely big enough to fit his bed, if you could call it that. It had a few pictures of organs, describing their functions and place in relation to the body. It also had a painting of Mt. Hiei. The beeping of Inuyasha's heart monitor was beginning to drive him crazy, he was tempted to rip the plugs off and throw the machine out the window.
"Inuyasha," Inuyasha looked away from his heart monitor and too the door where Kagome stood in the door frame.
"Kagome," she walked quickly, though it only took four steps to get from the door to his bed, and gently hugged him.
"Are you okay? I saw Sergeant San-Holme leave, questioning I suppose. Is anything broken?" Kagome realized she was talking to fast to give Inuyasha a chance to say anything. She gave a small smile and waited for Inuyasha to catch up to her.
"I am okay, one broken rib, three injured, and a sprained wrist, which ironically hurts more then anything else." he laughed at this before continuing, "The Detective and San-Holme were just verifying 'the facts'" he made half-hearted quotations in the air.
"So basically, they were making sure I didn't make anything up." Kagome stated.
"Yeah pretty much." Inuyasha chuckled again. "Thank you for coming over here to see me."
"Oh don't be ridiculous. There is no need to thank me, of course I would come and see you."
"Holy shit! Your brother is home alone!" Inuyasha tried to sit up but Kagome held him down.
"I know, its okay. He is with my mother, Sergeant San-Holme took care of it. Relax." Inuyasha let out a sigh of relief and laid himself back down.
"Are they still at the police station? Or are they here?" Inuyasha asked, partially curious, and partially trying to make conversation.
"They are at home." Kagome stated, "It is surprising what an amazing view you have from here," Kagome walked around his bed to the window. She was trying to avoid speaking of her mother. Kagome hadn't gotten into the car with her mother, instead she walked the thirty blocks to the hospital to see Inuyasha. She would have had her mom drive her home so she could get her car and see him herself. However, once Kagome got into the car she told her mother that she slept with Inuyasha, deciding to get it over with. Her mother called her everything under the sun before driving off in an angry rage.
"Yeah it is a good view." Inuyasha responded dully. "What is going on with you and your mom? You don't seem very close."
"We aren't. We used to be, I guess. Not really." Kagome spoke in fragments, pausing for a moment before each statement.
"You wanna talk about it?" Inuyasha asked. He thought he was being insensitive, he was trying to distract himself from the reality of his father being dead by prying into Kagome's life instead.
"Not much to say, is there." she continued to gaze out the window.
"You told me a bit about it on our first date." Inuyasha recalled thoughtfully.
"Yeah, a bit."
"I don't mean to pry. If you want to talk though I will listening," suddenly Kagome was a waterfall of speech as she began to tell Inuyasha almost everything she could think of that involved her mother.
"Well I already told you about the boyfriend, and grades issues. But her disappointing comments are so much more then that. One word from her mouth and I feel like I am a little child who stole a candy-bar or something. It is degrading the way she parades around the house talking about how I could be so much better. I don't understand it. I do everything she tells me too, but she never thinks I do it well enough. I hate it. I know I should be happy that she doesn't hurt me," she gave an apologetic look to Inuyasha, but he gave her a look which told her to continue,
"I just can't be happy with her though. Then, she says she is going off with Grandpa on appraisals and things, she offers to bring Souta, but wont bring me. I've never been to one, I'm sorry I lied to you that day. Mother always says if I miss school then I'll miss what is happening and my grades will slip, and she can't allow that. Grandpa doesn't even notice this half the time. He is getting on in years and he doesn't realize much of anything. I love him dearly, but he should retire and just relax at home instead of traveling the country side. I just wish my mother would let me do what I want for once, and stop nagging me about my life. It is my life, if I want to wear hip-huggers and over sized sweaters, or date people that aren't sons of her co-workers, then I should be able too." Kagome breathed deeply as she finished her rant. She didn't speak the part about her conversation with her mother over him because she didn't want him to feel that anything was his fault.
"Come here," Inuyasha said, Kagome did as he asked and walked over to his bed. He motioned for her to sit down, and hugged her closely.
"Thank you," Kagome rested her head softly on his shoulder. "You should get some sleep," Kagome pulled away from his embrace, "it has been a long day." Kagome held onto his hand and sat in a chair conveniently placed by his bed. She watched as his eyes reluctantly closed, and he fell asleep.
A/n: Orb: noo, I hope you didn't cry.. and I couldn't be happier to read my reviews ^_^
Chapter 14... *does happy dance* ^_^ Okay so my school has wicked cheap stuff, especially windows. And many, many times kids have put there fists through them, or legs, or themselves (not to this extreme of course) anyway... so yeah that is where the sucky window came from. Also, in my science room, we do have floor length (well more like 3/4 length) windows.. yeah.. *sigh* anyway, thought that tid-bit might be.. fun? ¤_O
Also, as I was re-reading my chapters (making sure I didn't screw up the days or anything) I realized that I spell Souta (Sota) and Kikyo (Kikyou) different ways.. I hope that didn't confuse anyone, even though its just the one letter (u)... hmm sorry if it did :-/
it took me a while to come up with a good title for this chapter... but I think that suits it well... ^_^ anyway, stay tuned for some stuff, warning though, the next chapter is wicked short (yeah it is written- but in the process of being edited, aren't I a devil) I've started working on my next story too. I wrote a story, that isn't really a fanfic, over the summer. Maybe I will post it anyway.... yeah I am blabbing again.. well until chapter 15 ^_~
