When he first sees her, she knows that he freezes in surprise for a moment. Anyone would to see someone who looks like the one they're in love with.
He calls her name, the girl who is her, yet not; she does not answer.
"Kagome."
She simply looks at him, he knows it isn't her; the smell of death itches his nose even though she stands yards away.
"Kikyo," she says in her cold voice. "That is my name."
She spends time with his tribe, and he sees some of the girl who she used to be; caring, faultless, selfless, like his Kagome. She smiles and his heart flutters just like it does for a certain short skirtted maiden.
She looks up at him, her eyes narrowed as if she knows what he is thinking. She does.
They make love for the first time, after they've encounter her. Her name does not spill from his lips, but she knows that he is thinking it.
'Kagome.'
She let's him take her wherever he wants, whenever. Sometimes he is slow and sweet, but more often he is angry and cruel. At times she is glad she is dead; her body willl not accept new scars. She let's him hurt her and bruise her, it makes her feel real. She knows that somewhere Inuyasha is fighting with her, probably over some trivial matter, while inwardly he staves off his feelings for her; he knows that he will never let Kikyo go.
She finds it ironic that her reincarnation and herself are with the ones that truly love the other forms of themselves. It's ironic that they are bound to the ones who want the other.
The most ironic thing of all, is that she is an echo of an echo of herself.
One day, he murmurs her name when he cums and it breaks her dead and cold heart. Yet still she lets him melt into her arms.
"Kagome."
When she awakens to an empty mat, she wishes she could cry.
