I do not own Inuyasha or its characters, cause if I did, I wouldn't be poor.

New Beginnings

Kagome stared at the wall across from her desk and sighed. Her boss never gave her enough work to fill even one of the eight hours she sat in front of his office as his assistant. Kouga Shinjo was one of the most powerful business men in japan, and one of the most infamous degenerates in the history of perversion. Graduating from college, Kagome had been in dire need of a job to help with the delapidating shrine that was the home of her decrepit grandfather, aging mother, and college bound little brother. It was her goal to help raise the money to send him to the best college in japan, the college she graduated from: Youkai University. It was a prestigious school and the only one that admitted both humans and youkai.

There she had studied hard in public relations and prided herself on her ability to promote the Unisex Club, which was the only club in the university that succesfully cultivated the similarities in both youkai and man. The news of their success and the interest of youkai and humans alike thriving together as a unified group, had caught the attention of the local paper and given her a short lived glimpse into the lives of the most high profile citizens of Japan. She had been treated with much respect by her human schoolmates and given a more respectable level of tolerance by the youkai student body. That had been the highlight of her now miserably boring life.

"Kagome! Get that pretty little ass in here, we need to talk." a very loud and very annoyed voice boomed into her intercom. Kagome sighed in defeat as she wondered if her morbid thoughts had reached her autocratic employer. She got up and hastily smoothed down the knee length peach colored skirt of her business suit. The white button up blouse she wore was opened inappropriately at the top showing the slightly tanned rise of her ample breasts. Just like the boss liked it. She slipped on her torturous white stilettos and walked into his office.

As she closed the door behind her, Kouga stood and sauntered over, leering at her lecherously. His impeccable navy blue suit complemented his blue eyes and as always, his long jet black hair was in a unnaturally but stylishly messy ponytail. Kouga Shinjo was a good looking man, it was just his personality that was distasteful. "I sent you to that meeting last week so you could spy on those the InuTaisho brothers, not so you could fraternize with the goddamn enemy." he whispered menacingly. Kagome stiffened at his tone. "I know Inuyasha from college, Kouga. I was merely catching up on old times over a cup of coffee, that hardly constitutes seduction." she hissed. She knew she was glaring at him, but she never quite could tolerate being mistreated. "Coffee? You went there to apply for an internship. You should have put in the application and got that tight little ass right back over here with a quickness. You know I like you best Kagome and I pay you more than enough to sit in that chair and make me look good. This isn't rocket science." he growled.

Kagome was fuming by the end of his lecture. "I am a proud graduate of a very prestigious college. I would rather you give me a chance to earn my pay than sit out front listening to my brain cells die off from lack of use. So, you listen here you mangy wolf, I'm one comment away from taking that desk and finding a way to stuff it up your ass!" she shouted shoving him back. His look of suprise was almost gratifying if it hadn't been followed by a look of lust. "You're spicy when riled up, huh?" he commented. That was enough. Kagome sashayed over to his desk where he was now seated with a lusty grin. She stood between his legs and let her well manicured hands drift up his chest and slide up the smooth skin of his neck to cup his face. Inching forward, she turned his head slightly and leaned in so her breath could tickle his pointed ears. "I quit" she whispered. Before the shock of that statement truly kicked in, she stomped out of the office, grabbed her belongings and stomped out of the building. She would never again grace the halls of Shinjo Incorporated! (Until she picked up her last check) She got into her navy blue Honda Civic and spend off.

As she walked into her apartment the impact of what she had just done settled in. She had bills to pay and her money was now dried up due to repairs on the shrine. She stared at the cream colored walls of her living room and the weight of her responsibilities wore heavily on her. Sitting back on her peach recliner she eyed the telephone with dutiful resignation. Taking a breath, she picked it up and dialed the only person she knew might be able to help her out. She steeled herslef to the possible hopelessness of the endeaver and waited for him to pick up. "Hello?" "Inuyasha?" "Oh hey Kags! You missed lunch and I know you love the ceaser salad at the diner. I would've treated you but you left so soon after the lecture." " Yeah well, I had to get back to my job, which I unfortunatetly don't have anymore."

Inuyasha paused on the line. "What the hell do you mean?" he shouted. Inuyasha had always been like a big brother to her in college. A big loud brother. The half demon was boisterous and crude, but undeniably loyal. He was also her dormmate and one of then handsomest males she ever laid her eyes on. In contrast to Kouga's dark good looks, Inuyasha was a picture of male beauty, though he hated to admit it. His eyes were an enchanting amber and his snowy white hair complimented his beauty to perfection. In another life she might have fell for him, but she and Inuyasha were too similar to date. It would end in disaster.
"Look, I was working for Kouga Shinjo and...."
"That perverted piece of shit! What the hell were you..."
"And he made a pass at me..."
"I'm gonna fucking kill that son of a..."
"So I quit."
"...bitch!"

There was a moment of silence. "Well my brother has been looking for a personal assistant for a while now." he said calmly. Kagome smiled. Inuyasha was her savior yet again. "That's almost morbidly conveniant. What's the catch?" she asked hesitantly. Inuyasha paused again. "Umm...well...he kinda doesn't like humans." he muttered. For a moment Kagome wanted to pretend that she didn't hear him right. "Then why did you even suggest it you idiot?" she snarled. Inuyasha sighed dramatically on the line. "I said he doesn't like them, I didn't say he doesn't hire them." he stated. She thought about it. She would much rather be disliked than file for bankruptcy. "Okay, well is the pay good? You know Souta wants to go to Youkai U." she said. Inuyasha whistled into the phone. "That's gotta be tough on you. I can talk to him tomorrow but I won't make any promises. Me and my brother don't exactly get along." he muttered. Kagome let out a breath of relief. "Thanks 'Yasha, I won't forget this." she whispered. Inuyasha made a noise of annoyance. "Just don't forget you owe me."

A week and there had been no word from him. Kagome grudgingly removed yet another carton of butter pecan ice cream from the freezer and meandered over to the recliner in which she had hardly moved. She hadn't bothered to answer the phone and knew Sango, her best friend, would be chewing her out on sight. Sango was the only woman who could succesfully intimidate her, hence her reason for staying inside. She had gotten two messages from her mother and an unflattering one from her ex-boss. She was beginning to become depressed. The ice cream had become her only comfort and she chose to studiously ignore the widening of her hips and focus on the heavenly taste of the rich treat sliding down her throat. Yet, it was a momentary comfort and she missed being a part of the world. Just as she had shrunk to a new level of sel pity, her phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Yo Kags, I'm out front of your apartment so get dressed and come meet me downstairs. I got some good news and bad news."
"You bastard son of a bitch! I have been waiting for you to call me all week."
"Stop it, you're starting to sound like my ex-girlfriend. Just get your lard ass downstairs!"

Kagome winced and hung up the phone. Inuyasha was one of the few people that knew ice cream was her comfort food. Every time her heart was broken or she failed to get the grades she wanted, Inuyasha was there with a carton of butter pecan. Every time he would let her crawl in his lap and sniffle about whatever miniscule problem she was facing that week with a mouth full of ice cream, then he would promptly call her a lard ass and tell her to get over it. Chuckling at the memory, she got up and dressed quickly in a Youkai U sweatshirt and a pair of jeans. Grabbing her purse, she gave the carton of ice cream an apologetic shrug and left.

Inuyasha was perched in front of his shiny red Jaguar with a sexy smile. His black shirt and slacks fit him like they were made for him and his beautiful amber eyes were hidden by an undoubtedly expensive pair of Armani shades. "I hate the air you breath" Kagome muttered as she walked up to him. "Don't hate Kags, appreciate." he said grinning. She ignored him and got into the car leaving him to close the door and laugh. He got in and started the car up, then hit the accelerater with what seemed to Kagome to be all the strength in his muscular leg. They sped through the city and arrived at The Diner. They had dubbed it that due to the many sleepless nights they spent there because of whatever adolescent crisis they were going through at the time. Kagome smiled inwardly as she realized that her college days were both the most simple and the most complex days of her life.

They found a seat in the back of the diner, and sat in the secluded booth they had occupied as college students. "Inuyasha pulled off his glasses and frowned at her. "You really loved that stupid college didn't you?" he asked in amusement. Kagome smiled wistfully. "How can you tell?" she asked. Inuyasha sat back and folded his arms at her. "You're wearing that fucking ugly sweatshirt. I dont think white and gold were the most appropriate for the school colors. I'd have preferred manlier colors like black and red." he said with a smirk. Kagome rolled her eyes. The Youkai Bloods were a fraternity at Youkai U that were contrived of the most bloodthirsty students walking the halls and their frat colors were black and red. Inuyasha was a proud member.

"Whatever you say frat boy, but you must admit white and gold suit you just as well." she said smiling. Inuyasha snorted at that and became serious. "It seems my brother is in desperate need of a personal assistant. The good news is that its a very well paying job. You'd be making over fifty thousand a year. That bad news is that if you take the job, you would be on call at all times and my brother is a workaholic." he explained. Kagome sat back and thought about it. She needed a job and the pay seemed to be well worth it. Inuyasha did well to warn her, but then he knew she hated to be at anyone's beck and call. "I need this job Inuyasha. I don't mind the hours at all, besides, if I'm going to save this money up in time I'm gonna need the steady income. It couldn't be that bad anyway, could it?" she asked jokingly. His stony silence said it all. Her eyes widened as she stared at him. "He can't be that much of a monster could he?" she asked, letting hope drip into her words.

Inuyasha gave her a level stare. "You would be his twentieth assistant this month." he stated. Kagome cringed. "Thats ludicrous! He must be horrible!" she said incredulously. Inuyasha shot her a warning look. "Sesshomaru may be cold, dismissive and completely without compassion, but he's a fair and honorable man. It just so happens that he intimidates people easily. Most of those silly bitches left just cause he wouldn't give them the time of day. He's all business and no pleasure. Haven't seen him with a woman in ages." he commented. Kagome sighed at that and leaned over the questionably clean table to look him square in the eyes. "I'll take the position. I need this 'Yasha." she said. He gave her a crooked smile and picked up his menu. "Good. You got an appointment nine o'closk sharp. Don't be late."

Kagome walked up the steps of InuTaisho Enterprises with her fingers crossed. The white marble building was both massive and beautiful. She hurried through the double doors, her black stilettos clanking against the marble floor as she moved. She slipped into the elevater as the doors were closing and thanked Kami she had made it in time. The traffic that morning had been monstrous and for a moment she thought she was going to be out of luck. Inuyasha had made it quite clear that his brother hated tardiness as much as he hated the human race. She winced inwardly at the thought and straightened the black jacket of her business suit.

The door opened on the thirtieth floor and she made her way into the stylishly furnished head office. Navy and white seemed the theme of her surroundings and she cursed herself for not picking the navy suit she had been eyeing instead of the black. She came to the receptionists desk and stared in shock at a woman who vaguely resembled herself. "H...Hello, goodmorning. I'm here for Mr. InuTaisho." she stammered. The woman looked up and gave her a dazzling smile. She was more than beautiful. Her long, straight black hair simply glowed and her pale flawless skin was feminine perfection. She wore a simple white shirt and a navy vest that went perfectly with her surroundings. "Ah, welcome. My name is Kikyo and if you remain here for more than a day we will be working closely." she said with a grin. Kagome smiled back and leaned closer. "What would you say is the reason they all left?" she whispered questioningly. Kikyo looked thoughtful for a moment. "I would say it would have to be that the boss can be a bit...demanding." she finished with a wink.

Before she could reply, Inuyasha's loud voice could be heard approaching and soon he stood before them in a red dress shirt and white slacks. Kikyo watched him appreciatively before he gave her a wink. "How is my flower maiden this morning?" he asked with a lazy smile. Kikyo blushed slightly before turning her dazzling smile to him. "Never better Mr. Inutaisho. The boss has been waiting, most impatiently." she answered. She turned to Kagome and pointed to the large office at the end of the corridor. "Go right ahead." she said. Kagome looked at Inuyasha who blew the blushing Kikyo a kiss and followed behind her. "Aren't you the charmer." she said in amusement. Inuyasha sighed forelornly. "I have a weakness for that one, but she hasn't agreed to let me take her out yet. I'm wearing her down though." he finished with a lazy grin. Kagome laughed before stopping in front of the office and taking a breath. She opened the door slowly and wished herself luck.

He was a god. Sesshomaru Inutaisho sat behind his desk with a languid ease that exuded sensuality. His long white hair flowed down his back and shimmered as if it were strands of light. Kagome stared in stunned appreciation for her new boss. His amber eyes were lighter and richer than Inuyasha's and his perfectly sculpted face sported perfectly shaped, slightly pink lips. If Inuyasha was beautiful, his brother was angelic in his magnificence. His body was all lean muscle and powerfully built leaving no room for excess. Kagome blinked then found her voice quickly. "Hello Mr. InuTaisho. My name is Kagome Higurashi." she said offering her hand. Sesshomaru took it and shook it briefly as he watched her with a stoic expression on his perfect face. He unfolded his long lithe frame from his chair and stood at a good six and a half feet towering over her. "I trust you have brought me your resume." he said evenly.

His voice was deep and resonant rising out of his throat as a velvet purr. Kagome nodded and pulled the documents out of her black briefcase and handed them to him. She had included her degrees and recommendations, though Kouga had only given her one if she promised to pick up her check wearing a miniskirt. Sesshomaru ran his lovely eyes over the papers then sat back down in his chair. Inuyasha, who hadn't said anything up till now, ushered her into one of the seats provided, then took the other, lifting his legs, crossing them and situating them on his brothers desk. Sesshomaru sent him a look that could freeze the bowels of hell. "Remove your legs from my desk little brother or I will be much obliged to seperate them from you." Kagome shivered as the deadly statement was delivered in an even tone. Inuyasha smirked and dropped his legs before he leaned forward. "Its been too long since I properly annoyed you big brother, but I wouldn't mind seeing you try it." he said with a smug grin. Sesshomaru leaned back in his chair and tilted his head slightly. "As much as I would like to emasculate you, I do believe we have assembled here for a purpose." he said turning his gaze to look pointedly in Kagome's direction.

Inuyasha sighed and folded his arms. "Then hurry up and hire her. You haven't got any other prospects at the moment and we both know there won't be any coming for a while after the last one." he commented. Sesshomaru frowned slightly at his brother sending him a look of acute distaste. Kagome stiffened in her seat. "May I ask what happened with the 'last one'" she asked hesitantly. Sesshomaru sent his brother another frosty look, then watched her for a moment without comment. "Let's just say that she challenged me. That is never a very good idea." he said in a monotone. Inuyasha smirked. "You didn't have to put her in the hospital Sesshomaru. You and I well know she couldn't have done much harm." he said. Kagome's blood froze in her veins. Sesshomaru's beautiful face twisted in a scowl. "That is hardly a conversation we should be having at the moment Inuyasha and if you do not cease your tactless blather, I will be forced to have you join her." he seethed.

Kagome felt faint. Sesshomaru's reputation as a ruthless and powerful demon preceded him. It was one of the reasons he was the number one business man in Japan and most of the world. His wealth knew no bounds and he seemed ageless as no one knew how long he had been walking the earth. It was he who founded the university in which she had attended and it was he who she had secretly admired for most of her life. She had never confessed this to Inuyasha, but it had been his brother that inspired her. She had kept that a secret in her heart for years, but to be in his presence had changed her prospective. He had a powerful aura and to look at him was pure bliss. She felt herself beginning to panic and was now acutely aware of why he ran through assistants so easily. Clearing her mind, she spoke up. "I am a hard worker Mr. InuTaisho and Inuyasha has told me of the hours and my need to be available should my presence be necessary. I am honest, I do not engage in gossp of any kind and I am loyal." she said.

Sesshomaru's brow lifted at the woman before him. She was undoubtedly a splendid creature to look upon with her rich peach colored skin and her midnight locks that she had pulled into a messy bun. Her large eyes were a vivid blue that spoke of her mixed blood and her full rosy lips wer uncommon. Inuyasha had told him that her father had been an american, he should have been prepared for it to be apparent. Her body was generously curvacious and he smiled inwardly. He was a man that appreciated breasts, too bad the magnificent pair on his new assistant were human. His distaste for anything human was widely known and though he had become leniant with the breed, enough so to found the university and begin hiring them, it was a decision that was made in honor of his father and nothing else. His father's wretched half breed spawn had been left in his care as well as the woman who birthed him, and it was his oath to his dying father that kept him from destroying them both, though his half sibling had begun to amuse him as he got older. He was still a filthy wretch, but one who had earned the right to the InuTaisho name.

"You will do" he said to the human before standing. "You will start tomorrow morning at nine am sharp. Your desk will be situated in my office and you will take all calls patched through. Kikyo will teach you how to answer the phone and all other secretorial duties you are unfamiliar with. I will have a phone delivered to you and it is to be used only for this job and will be payed for by the company. I do not tolerate lateness or excuses of any kind. I do not tolerate incompetence or fraternization in the work place. What you do outside this office will reflect heavily on me so I advise you to be very careful of what you do and who you do it with. Is that clear.?" Kagome stared wide eyed at her new employer. He was bossy as all hell, but she was so grateful for the job she would have kissed his undoubtedly beautiful feet had he held them out to her. She nodded and smiled brightly before bowing and hurrying out to speak to Kikyo. There was much to learn.

Inuyasha stared at his brother, all semblace of joking gone from his expression. "She is very special brother, do not hurt her in any way." he stated as he rose from his seat. Sesshomaru eyed him in amusement. "Is that a threat little brother?" he asked evenly. Inuyasha smiled. "It's a promise." Sesshomaru watched his brother walk out of the room and let a cold smile creep onto his lips. His brother seemed to care deeply for the human woman. It amused him to no end that Inuyasha would threaten him, given the brat knew he could dispatch of him with a flick of his wrist. The woman was no doubt going to be a pleasant distraction from his boringly lengthening years, but he wondered what kind of person, human or youkai, would cause his brother to make a threat as dangerous and no doubt honest as the one he had made on the human's behave today. He leaned back and stared out of his windo at the fabulous view of the city. Interesting.
