"INUYASHA LOOK OUT!" Kagome screamed as Naraku shot a tendril at Inuyasha from behind. Inuyasha dogged the attack and readied for another blow. If all things worked out right, this would be the final battle with Naraku. Kagome was holding his peice of the jewel, and only a few more were needed to complete it.
Then Kagome would... Inuyasha stopped. She would go home, she had no reason to stay on this side of the well. Everything around Inuyasha was unimportant. He looked toward Kagome who was watching nervously from behind a group of rocks, arrow drawn, waiting for an opening.
Naraku followed his gaze and cackled. "So that's where she's hiding eh?" Naraku shot a tendril towards Kagome, knocking her back a couple yards into a river into a river. She screamed out and Inuyasha's eyes went wide. Kagome was laying in a river turned red with her own blood.
He gripped his sword and raced towards Naraku...
A tear fell down Inuyasha's face, joining the multitude already fallen. His shoulders shook violently. The battle was all just a blur. He couldn't even remember how he'd beaten Naraku. All that he knew was that Kagome hadn't made it through. She had died in his amrs early in the morning following the fight. They had talked long into the night...
flashback
"Inuyasha... If I... don't make it, bury me here, under the Goshinboku..." Kagome had whispered after her wounds had been treated. Inuyasha was trying not to cry. "Hey! Don't talk like that! Your not gonna die." Kagoem smiled weakly. "I know I'm going to die... please, just stay with me." Inuyasha shooook his head regretfully. "What are you, stupid? Of course I'll stay, and I know your going to get better. You can't die. What will Shippo do? What will I do?" Inuyasha was no longer hiding his tears.
Kagome sat up on her cot and pulled herslef onto Inuyasha's lap. "Shippo loves you Inuyasha, you take care of him... He loves you, I love you..." Kagome looked up into Inuyasha's eyes. He whispered, "I love you to much to let you die." Kagoem laughed feebly.
"I'll never truely die as long as you remember me. My body might be lost forever, but my soul will survive if you remember... Never forget me..." Kagome struggle to sit up in Inuyasha's lap and gently kissed him. He kissed her back with all of the love he could show while still being gentle.
Kagome released her grip on his shoulders and layed back in his lap. "In my mind Inuyasha... there's no way I'd rather die than in your arms... I love you." Inuyasha wrapped his arms securly around Kagome. "No Kagome, you can't die, I love you, don't leave me." He whispered urgently in her ear. But she only heard up to 'I love you' before her life force gave way and she left this world behind. She left a greiving hanyou and many fond memories.
End FlashBack
Inuyasha fingered his necklace sadly. He missed her so much, he could hardly stand to be alive. "Why couldm't I have died?" He would ask himself on those nights when Kagome's memory had haunted him. He would sit and replay her final words, each time crying.
Miroku looked up at the forlorn hanyou. "Inuyasha hasn't been the same ever since Kagome passed on." Sango looked up from the fire sadly. "What do you expect? There was no better couple than them. They were meant to be, even if they always denied it. I wonder what Kagome told him in her final hours..." Miroku closed his eyes and leaned back. "I suspect she confessed her love for him, and he her. To bad they hadn't come out and said it sooner. It really is sad." Shippo sat by Sango and started crying.
"Why'd she have to die?" Shippo asked Sango. Before Sango could answer, Inuyasha jumped down and took the kit into the tree with him. "Hey kid, don't worry, she'll never leave us... as long as we remember her." Inuyasha was fighting back tears as he did what Kagome asked him to. Shippo needed to know how much he meant to Kagome.
"She thought the world of you Shippo, she would never truely leave you, so you don't have to worry." Shippo looked down. "I know, but it's so hard! She used to give me candy, and play with me. She was just like my mom..." Inuyasha made Shippo look at him. "I lost my mom to, and it still hurts. But I know that she loved me enough that even death couldn't keep her from me. Sometimes, when I feel alone, or afraid, I think of her, and how much she loved me." Shippo nodded and wipped away his tears.
"Your right Inuyasha, thanks..." Shippo hugged Inuyasha and jumped down from the tree. Inuyasha sat in that same spot for well over an hour and thought some more. Was Kagome really with him that moment?
Jumping down and walking along a path they used to take, he could almost hear Kagome saying, 'Inuyasha, Inuyasha, I'm here for you..." He smiled as he looked into her favorite tree. In the light of the setting sun he could see Kagome's sillouhetted form against the blossoms. She smiled that smile that had drivin Inuyasha to live so many times and faded out. He could feel her presence around him, and hear her voice calling, 'I love you for ever...'
Well? What does everyone think? Reviews would be nice. I may add more chapters if anyone wants...
