Enchanted Love

"Inuyasha! Sit!"

The sound of flesh thudding on wooden floorboards filled the room as Kagome stormed out of Kaede's hut, leaving the flattened half-demon behind. By the time Inuyasha finally pulled his face from the floor, Kagome was long gone. He glared at the hut's entrance as the other occupant of the hut sighed.

"Inuyasha, ye should go after Kagome. That was harsher then she deserved." Kaede told the angered half-demon as the spell wore off.

"Why should I," he snorted, crossing his arms. "All she does is get into trouble and slows me down. She's a useless reincarnation of Kikyo!"

Kaede sighed. "Do ye really think she is?"

"Feh, of course what good has she done for me old hag?" Inuyasha half snapped half growled.

Kaede sighed and shook her head, "That `useless reincarnation' has saved your life before or did ye forget that Inuyasha?"

She took his silence as an `yea I remember'.

"Then why don't ye go apologies Inuyasha." Kaede asked him.

"I won't go fucking apologies to her old hag," Inuyasha yelled, "why should I?"

Kaede shook her head sadly at him but, experience told her that it would be best to leave the matter alone for a bit.

As Kagome stormed away to the well, unknown to her that pair of sinister eyes were watching her every movement. Soon, it thought, soon the Shikon Shards will be mine as well a very tasty lunch! Then I will be stronger.

Patience was all that it needed.

"Curse that jerk!"

A fuming Kagome yelled as she stormed away from the village and got closer to the well, intending to go home and far away from the irritating half-demon. But, as her temper faded, she suddenly stopped, feeling a little guilty. She felt that what he said had some truth to it after all. She was only human and, reincarnation of a long-dead and powerful miko, Kikyo, she didn't really possess any spectacular abilities. Sure, she could detect the presence of Shikon fragments but that was about it. Inuyasha was the one that had to come and rescue her. She really did owe her life to him.

Besides, she was at fault for breaking the Shikon Jewel in the first place and felt it was her responsibility to collect the fragments but she wasn't foolish enough to believe that she could do it alone. She needed Inuyasha and his good fighting skills and demon abilities to go against anyone else using the power of a Shikon shard just as he needed her to pick up the traces of more fragments. They both needed each other but, for this odd partnership to work, they needed to be on less hostile terms which meant that this latest argument had to be resolved.

"Guess I'm going to have to apologize." She told herself.

Mind made up, she turned around and began to head back towards the village.

No! This can not be! The creature that had been watching Kagome mentally cursed. He needed those shards and now he would attack.

Kagome felt a demon's presence near her and began to look around, her back became rigid and realization settled in on her that she wasn't alone and far from the village.

a rumbling growling behind her told her that her watcher had decided to stop just watching. She didn't bother to waste time to look back at the demon chasing her, quickly closing the distance between them. She concentrated on running back to the village which now seemed far away as she opened her mouth and let out a piercing scream.

"Inuyasha!"

Inuyasha suddenly jumped to a standing position swiveling his ears and startling the old woman making dinner in the hut. She looked at him in concern when she saw the worried expression on his face.

"What is the matter with ye Inuyasha?"

"I thought I heard something." The half-demon replied as he strained his ears.

Then he heard it, the frightened cry of his name in the distance and he was up and dashing through the hut's entrance as he prayed that he'd make it there in time. He went as fast as he could towards the cry, hoping he'd be in time to save her.

His Kagome.

"Inuyasha!"

Kagome screamed as loud as she could, while she continued to run and prayed that he heard her yelling and would come. She had no doubt that he would. After all, she had the Shikon shards and knew that, he'd rather die than see them turned over to anyone else. No, her biggest concern wasn't that he'd come to rescue her but that he made it in time to do so.

But then, when she was about to let loose with another scream, she tripped on a tree root concealed in the darkness and had a bigger concern that filled her mind as she went sprawling across the ground and the demon that had been chasing her suddenly loomed over her prone figure. Fear gripped her and clogged her throat, closing it tight, as the impressive mass of bristling dark fur and claws registered in her mind as the growling mouth filled with snapping rows of razor-sharp teeth began to descend on her.

Her fear was overwhelming as it swelled within her and she finally opened her mouth to scream once more when the large body hovering over hers suddenly stiffened and let out a howling roar much louder than anything she'd ever heard. It frightened her, as she felt strong arms wrap around her and carry her off.

The last thing, that she remembered were the cold golden orbs that stared into her stormy gray ones. Then everything went black.
